Don't spend any more money and get it on sale pronto Matt. It's a great car with a full years MOT and working well. Don't tempt fate and do more work/spend more on it. You never know what could go wrong.
I agree. Be honest when you sell it regarding the potential timing belt - as I'm sure you are, then you can sell it with a good conscience. These things have a habit of running away with you. Sell and buy something else fun!!
Agree. It's been properly repaired. Time to go.
Hearty congratulations Matt, what a transformation with the ultimate goal achieved of a nice fresh MOT! We need more of this content Matt.
Love the honesty of what some people make it look easy and the reality of the struggles of doing a “quick job” turning out to be an hours worth of hassle 👍
Especially if it's sat still outside for years, everything gets corroded and stuck together.
With rear drum and disc brakes, I spray the whole area with penetrating fluid and follow that with a weak mix of washing up liquid in a mist sprayer. Just a few drops in the bottle is all you need. Spray the whole areas or caliper assembly ( my cars have both drum hand and disc main rear brakes ) then work it in with a tired ex- nylon bristle washing up brush,
Follow that with a overall flush of hot water from a recently boiled kettle. Brakes can take the heat. That heat will enable all parts to dry off fully after an initial wipe over with a cloth. Very beneficial.
My MoT testers usually compliment my cars' handbrake efficiency. Comments like "That locked out on the Rollers" and ""Rarely handbrakes on those that good". Plus, and my daily driver ZT-T 1.8T last January passed with compliments without a single advisory. Rare for any of my old cars to do that. MoT due again in four weeks. It is a good one. We shall see...... 🙂
Good to see another amateur DIYer experience Deep Joy spannering moments. ... 🙂
Matt, your persistence in completing the jobs on this car is admirable particularly in the cold weather. Always great to see another car back on the road which would otherwise have been scrapped 👍
loved this series, but you didn't need to remove the shoes. Just squeeze the new cylinders with a finger and thumb and slide it between the shoes. Also the drum was so difficult to remove because the drums gain a "lip" where the shoes don't touch, always recommend to grind off to make it easier next time :) I trained at ford in 1996. Congratulations on the Mondeo, always loved em
"Evri have tried to deliver them apparently"
There's a reason they changed their name to Evri; everyone knew that Hermes were completely useless. Nothing other than the name has changed! You'll get three wheel trims tomorrow and the fourth in a fortnight.
True. I sold stuff on eBay and paid evri for next day. Only one item actually got delivered the next day and that was the cheap one I only paid standard delivery for! The others took between 3 and 5 days, 1 took 2 weeks and one got lost
What what what!
This Mondeo series is reminding me of my first car. A Ford cougar (based off the Mondeo) which I bought in the mid 2000s in Scotland. The value dropped like a stone to low 4 figs after it was new in 1998. Mine was a 2.5 V6 but there were zetec versions as well, which would have been mechanically and electrical y very similar to this mondy. It was a good car with a surprising balance of fun, style, and practicality to own for a then-youngin like me!
It had an Intermittent electrical issue where it would blow a fuse on ignition, had to keep plenty of them spare, even an auto electrician struggled to find it, but they eventually traced it to a chafed wire behind the dash. I knew an obscure electrical issue would be at play here too (fuel pump+relays)
Brake lines were also an issue... had to have them replaced almost every service\MOT. Seeing this made me realize why, I was daily driving it through salty Scottish winters. In the end rust took too much hold of the floor pan and other parts that I couldn't afford to have replaced, had to scrap it in 2010.
Hope the next owner of this Mondy goes to suitable lengths to rust proof the car if it goes anywhere north of Bedford!
An excellent series. Well done Matt
Superb job, Matt, please do the timing belt too, it is interesting content and will make sure the car has a better chance at a second life 😃👍🏻💪🏻
Well done Matt, the Mondeo is finally nearing completion, I’ve really enjoyed the series on this car, not sure why but I became really passionate towards this 90’s run of the mill rep mobile.
Also from reading other comments, it would appear that I’m not on my own.
Anyway thank you for sharing this gem with us😊.
It’s good to see the Mondeo heading back on the road. It’s back from a time when I rated Ford. The recent stuff is of lower quality and lacks that special something. The earlier stuff just worked well.
New fiesta’s are the best hot hatches around imo for the best price
Totally agree with you on the new stuff, I have just got rid of a MK4 Tit X Mondeo and replaced it with a 1990 1.3L Escort. Out of the 9 cars I own now only 1 was built this century a 2003 Renault Val Satis (currently off road with a water leak).
@@monaconti3651 I doubt it will be around in 10 years time. I am a big fan of Fords, and these ecotech engines let go at low mill ages due to the stress they get put under.
Well to be fair, the bumpers on the old Mondeos weren't great quality! Other than that though, the old Zetec engines from that era were decent.
Hmm..I think the recent stuff isn't brilliant but they are consistently good. Around 2010 the Fiesta Focus and Mondeo are all brilliant. Just in terms of how good they are to drive and what you're getting for your money. 👍
Good luck with EVRI.......Evri parcel lost, Evri parcel damaged . Changed their name but not their drivers, conditions or working practices
Really liking this Mondeo series. Never really thought much about them when they were prolific. Turns out they're perfectly adequate cars
As an ex-mechanic with, let's say 'several' years experience of working on older cars - I didn't arf laugh you said "how do these come off?". Working on drum brakes can be a nightmare! Great series of videos. I've really enjoyed watching you on your learning curve. Keep up the good work.
Great show!, reminded me of our own Mondeo rescue. We bought our Mondeo for AU$600 with 100000km 10 years ago and fixed a head gasket problem. The car still drives and looks like new today apart from the bumper bars cracking.
Hint I've picked up working on cars (especially Fords & Volkswagens) is that if any assembly/disassembly instructions start with "simply", it means the exact opposite.
I've heard of "jumping the shark" (The Fonz on Happy Days), but not "jumping the hippo"! 😋👍
I've been waiting for this episode! Happy days! And no references to the USA helping the Brits on the Southern coastal areas.
With projects like this you are very quickly becoming the general go to driveway mechanics and general car content channel. You don't shirk from involved jobs despite YT no being a full time occupation.
Absolutely love this series on the Mondeo fantastic content 👌👌👌
The best episodes have the jeopardy of “will it start” & “will it pass the MOT”! Great stuff 👍
What an achievement Matt well done ❤
Love the video. My mk4 Mondeo does that frustrating sh*t with the indicators from time to time. Absolutely boils my p*ss - as you can tell lol... its new one is the parking sensors have decided to stop working, again! Oh and to top it off, I also have to remove the whole headlight from the car to replace the bulbs 🤬... and breath haha. Other than that, probably one of the best handling cars I've even driven.
If he posted the wheel trims with Evri, he should have saved himself the bother and thrown them in the bin.
Happy days! 😃 The Mondeo looks like a lovely comfy old motor with it's velour upholstery.
I have really enjoyed the Mondeo series so far .
Well done Matt you have done really well on the mondeo it’s coming out to be a really nice car have enjoyed this series and hope it goes to a great home
Great to see it passed . If I get a drum that's a bit tight I find hitting it on rather than off works quite successfully. Was taught that by my Dad when I was a kid . I'm nearly 60 .😂😁
Good tip, let's see if I remember that when playing with my fiat cinquecento.
@@terryatkinson3182 It's worked for me but if the shoe retainer springs are broken or the shoes are stuck on it might not work but normally gets it off the hub . A couple of smacks on the face not the edge of the drum with a 4lb hammer normally does it . Good luck with the car .
@@terryatkinson3182 sorry get it off the hub face
These mondeos hold a lot of nostalgia memories for me of the decent parts of my childhood. So has been amazing to find this series to watch. :D My plan is to one day buy one myself XD
Whilst I'm no fan of Ford's, I have a soft spot for these Mk2 Mondeos, my parents had a R reg 1.8 Zetec Verona in a light blue, we did many trips in that car over the UK whilst growing up. Well done on the MOT pass, this has been a fantastic series, as always.
PS, the Crown Vic is also a cool Ford. ;)
I have one of those mugs and use it all the time hehe. That Mondeo is a wonderful car, just something so appealing and lovable about it. That 1.8 Zetec is a superb unit and will just get better with regular use. The only issue I had with mine was a dodgy idle control valve… took about 15 mins and £30 to fix. Great video!
Hey Richie . Happy New Year . were watching the same video . Well done on the fresh mot . Have I missed any updates on the Lagonda Matt?
They are great engines, and it feels so strong - and unappreciated modern day Volvo 200!
No updates on the Lagonda, seems to have gone quiet
Very impressive taking this from field to MOT!
That’s great News Matt. A Mondeo is reborn!
YEAH!! Fantastic result on The Mondeo MOT Matt! A brilliant series so far and looking forward to the final touches being done.
Top work Matt! What a terrific result, and from where you started remarkable given the original condition of the car! Top video, and what a great start to 2023.
Well done Matt, can't believe you stuck with it, many wouldn't, but your persistence paid off. You should be proud of yourself.
Well done Matt! Great to see the Mondeo live again ❤️
Another mk2 on the road well done, i just saved a st24 one of 37 motd on the road. Matt, old fords never die.
Well done for saving this mk2 mate. Fantastic little series. I have a Mk3 Mondeo Estate ST220. Fantastic car, i've owned it for 10 years now. And honestly don't think i will ever get rid of it. Always had Fords. 1st car, a Mk1 Fiesta. Another Mk1 Fiesta, 2 Mk2 Fiestas. 12 Mk2 Granada 2.8s. 5 MK3 Granada Scorpios, 3 of them 24v Cosworths. A Scorpio Cosworth 24v Estate and now the Mondeo ST220.👍🏻Ps with drum brakes, u hit the face of the drum, not the sides. Several whacks on the face with a big hammer, shocks and springs the drum forward.👍🏻
Well done on getting that stubborn drum off. I always find, on a job like that, I end up surrounded by a mass of tools that end up,taking longer to put away than the job took
Well done Mat, so pleased you got a ticket on the Mondy.
You did really well in keeping the cost down. It just goes to show what an individual can achieve if they make the effort to apply themselves.
I would like to see you keep the mondy if possible but happy new year all the same
Great work Matt. 👍
Nice one Matt. Great little series 👍
Awesome job Sir,👍
This is exciting. Did you run around the testing station in celebration like you did when you first got it to start?
I feel like this car deserves a timing belt. You've made the car so good it would be a shame to run the risk of it snapping
That was a home run at multiple levels.
Nice one Matt, good to see another Mk2 road worthy once again. Yes, the book was lying to you about that side repeater - you have to unclip it from behind. With enough force you may get it from the front, but like you have found you end up damaging either the light or the paint. I would say move it on now Matt, you have plenty of other projects already, and the Mondeo will soon be demanding some in depth attention.
Fantastic job on the Mondeo , great to see it pass. , will clean up great . "Glass and plates , glass and plates ", as my old boss used to tell me 20 years ago. (Valeting the trade-ins for the forecourt).Best wishes .
Very impressive Matt and a little understated WOOP of joy from furious junior considering all the stress , hard work 😓 and headaches in freezing wet weather it took to get that cherished M O T certificate 👌🏻, WOOP WOOP WOOP Matt fantastic outcome and well deserved.
Great work Matt 👍👍👍
Fantastic series! I’ve never been so excited over an old Ford Mondeo ever! 😂 Thanks so much for the high quality content! Keep it up!
Great work - looking forward to the Mini rebuild - huge community of support, so opportunities to collaborate with other UA-camrs such as Simpsons Classics.
Congrats on the pass Matt! Been a passive viewer of this series and seeing such a faithful old car back on the road after some hard graft is brilliant! My poor MK4 Polo sadly failed it's MOT and so I'm likely going to be selling it soon with the hope that someone can get it passed similarly to your efforts and get some use out of it rather than let it go to the scrapyard in the sky!
Great work the old Mondeo is looking fine. My jeep has shoes and pads all on one hub at the rear. Well done with the MOT 👍
Well done Matt, great progress. It’ll look mint with a final polish and those elusive wheel trims. It’s always nice to see a cooking model saved, ST’s and Ghia’s all well and good but LX’s and Zetec’s are the ones that were once everywhere
Nice job Matt had these when they were new & loved them
Well done!
Excellent work
My Mercedes R129 SL320 I bought in 2010. The she was sorn in October 2014, Sat unloved and outside, till July 2022. Cost me £5000 + to get back on the road, including a replacement fuel tank
Congratulations on your efforts with the Mondeo
Yey well done Matty great start to 2023👍the Mondeo with an MOT 👌
Fantastic result, Matt. Rescued what has become quite a rare car. You know you want to keep it! 😀
Really glad to hear and see that it passed the second time. A quick tip to get the drum of hit it round the face it tends to free them of quicker. Least the pins where not rotten I have found this on many occasions so I have just replaced them.👍
Very good work👍
I've really enjoyed watching these, great reward for all your hard graft Matt 🤝
Well done in getting the Moldeo done, I know a few mechanics who hated working on them...
Top work Matt! Been a great series
Well done, Matt! 🎉🎉
fantastic work on the Mondeo, watched every episode, brilliant work you should do more projects like this 😀
Great to see the Mondog on the road!
I've been waiting for the MOT pass, well done mate!
Well done that man!
Yay!!! Great news Matt!
Good on ya Mat very entertaining your videos. Delighted to see another old ford kept on the ford mighty fan off the mk2 i had 1 years back loved it much nicer than the vectra it replaced 😆
Back to the future, great video,I really wish you were keeping her
The mother of all quick turnarounds. Huzzah sir!.
Really loved this Ford Mondeo series so glad it lives on
I remember when those Mondeos were a common sight on the roads here in Slovenia. They are practicaly non exsistant nowdays.
I clocked @ 21.45 that she's got a new front registration plate!
Great video. Looking forward to the next update
Mmmm.... good luck with Evri is all I'll say. Good to see how well this car has turned around though 🙂 Incidentally, I found myself following a car yesterday with both Furious Driving and HubNut stickers on the boot lid!
Good work there mate
Great work and video😎🔥👌
I did the rear drum brakes on a MK7 Fiesta the other week and the drums have a threaded hole in them that you put an M6 bolt in. As you wind the bolt in it pulls the drum off, simple and very useful at the same time, no hammering necessary!
Great stuff mate 👌👌
Excellent new so glad to see it all come together and the MOT pass is always a good day we’ll done man. 👍👍. These have been so much fun and inspirational to watch
Awesome series on the Mondeo & fantastic news on the mot pass get the thing sold & buy another project really enjoyed this one
Absolutely great effort getting it passed let's hope someone will buy this and love it , as for the landy I'd put some card around the battery as it keeps the cold from draining the cells when left and found a bloke selling rover turbo parts said give you a look up 👍
I'm of the opinion this car should stay on the Furious Fleet for a while. We all love it dearly !!
Congratulations! Good times :)
Absolutely smashed this out Matt nice work! Another one saved!
Amazing - are you collaborating on the Mini rebuild - would love to see this.
@@Curiousdriving I would be more than happy to buddy. Can’t beat a proper classic mini. I guess it’s @furiousdriving Matt’s call ☺️
Well done Matt
Well done 👍
Fantastic love the Mondeo.
Great result, well done, even if watching your mechanical work is a bit painful to watch!
Do hope your hubcaps weren’t amongst the parcels dumped at the roadside just prior to Christmas. Great work on the Mouldeo 👍👍
Fantastic news its passed always rated these things when they came out so nice to finally see it drive and move amazing turn around too something specal about them tbh loved this series hope there more coming
Well done Matt, great news :)
Love watching your videos mate your the best love the Mondeo project can't wait for more videos like this
Congratulations on the passing the inspection and getting the car road legal.Great to see you have put another great classic back on the road!
He's a brave man taking on an old Mondeo. They were rot boxes.
Great to see it alive !!
Mk2 Mondeos seemed to be everywhere 1 minute....gone the next.
You could say the same about anything though, I suppose.
