We need an abandoned car restoration series, 1 car at a time... It's just so fun to watch
Finding the right abandoned cars is the issue!
Yes please please we need more of this. The Mondeo has been such fun to watch.
Maybe a MK1 or MK2 Octavia?
I just redid the headlining on my Discovery 1 the cheap way. I removed the old headlining and foam and replaced it with grey polar fleece. It was the only fabric I could easily get wide enough to fit. The first attempt I didn't use high enough temp glue and it came down in the summer heat. I redid it last week with decent glue and it's holding up well even with near 60C temps in the car. The polar fleece is cheap, easy to glue, you don't need a backing and it looks good, in an old Disco 1 at least.
I so admire your never say die attitude Matt. Great series and I’m sure she’s going to a good home 👍👍
I absolutely hated Hermes and Evri are proving pretty crap too. Hermes managed to break so many things that were irreplaceable. Great job with the struts - John of WatchJRGO seems to have to replace every bonnet and boot strut on every car he has 🤣 headliner looks much better! Great video Matt
yes ive noticed that on JR as well!
John should watch Matt doing headliners…he has plenty of those too
They're afwful Richie. I'm still waiting for stuff I ordered before Decemeber to arrive
It's not Hermies that broke it if you packed it badly it's going to get broken in transport if you wrapped it In a bit of paper and tossed it in a box what do you expect to happen, some times I'm amazed when things arrive from eBay how it wasn't broken, you need to realise Hermies entire business was shipping larger packets boxes get stacked to be transported, it's down to you to pack it properly in a proper box, don't blame others for your failure's
@@dbt2787 where did you order it from? International ? Then it's not their fault, blame yourself if you voted brexit
Had so much trouble with Herpes in the past, when I see them as the delivery method my purchase from the retailer is of last resort. I been slating them for years.
As for the Mondie, great work, looks so different. Hopefully we will be able to watch its journey on another channel 🙏. Hopefully my headliner goes as sweat, although I will be doing it in the "Summer", British style.
Loved the series and if it has brought some me more eyes to the channel, good for you 👍
Herpes hahaha! 😆 Actually Herpes is more fitting.
Thats EXACTLY like my dad's old car! 98 reg 1.8 hatch in "juice green" only is was an LX "Verona" edition which had split-rim multispoke alloys as well.
Terrible electrics on that car, and the bumpers seemed to be made of glass - they would crack if you so much as coughed on them. But it was a super comfy car, you could just while away the miles in peace, quiet and comfort. They were EVERYWHERE on UK roads not that long ago but now I'm struggling to remember when I last saw one! Ford have even stopped making the Mondeo entirely now so preserving the older ones is now preserving motoring history! Well done for saving this one, it could so easily have ended up going for scrap and that would have been a real shame given how rare they are now.
For future reference, when installing headlning material you need to do more than simply rub it down with your hands, once the material is applied and roughly hand formed in the way you did you should go over it with a hand held steam mop (I think polti is the name of one of the company's who make them quite inexpensively, but there are others) with a cloth boot on it to tighten it up around all its contours and curves - it is how all the manufacturers do it, it makes for a far more professional looking result and wont unpick as easily. Jaguar landrover interior suppliers to my certain knowledge do this and also use hot air guns played over the surfaces of the leather seats and door cards to the same effect, and when done judiciously and carefully it takes all the creases and lines out of both materials wonderfully.
Oh and when inserting the lining for fitting, lower one side or the other by about a foot rather than trying to force it in square on, it makes it much easier to install and less prone to damaging the lining by snagging it
Great info, thanks!
They did that on project binky
A total credit to you Matt. You've done a cracking job. Shocking lack of tape on the bumpers though
that was a disappointment
Can’t believe the project is finished, you should definitely keep it 😂
Very nice job. Recycling at it's best.
That was a very informative video, I didn't even know it was so easy to slide out the inner ceiling panel.
Great, thumbs up.
Those early Mondeo's are fast becoming classics
We've had so many parcels left outside in the rain and ruined by Hermes/Evri. We live on a really secluded street but it's a miracle that some passer by haven't just help themselves. They don't even bother to try and hide them or put them somewhere safer. It's got to the point that if a retailer uses Evri as a delivery company we just don't bother ordering from them, it really isn't worth the hassle anymore.
The first episode of the Mondeo series was suggested to me a few weeks ago, and now I'm super invested!
Nice to see one without tape over all of the bumpers.
Great job with the headliner the old Mondeo is looking real good now.👍
Trademark cockup with the colour of course….
I can’t believe how well the paint has come up. You’ve inspired me to purchase a polisher and make it a spring/summer project.
Message of the day: Don't use Evri. :-)
And repeat...
My local driver is great, always helpful and leaves things in sensible places. Somehow, presumably by good luck, all my deliveries have found their way through the rest of the system and arrived on time and in good condition! No Mondeo bits have turned up here by mistake though 😀
Put them back out of business.
Royal Mail aren't much better tbh!
I will be sad to see the back of this Mondeo, I really can’t explain why, but it has found it’s way in to my heart, I have thoroughly enjoyed the series on it, and I’m not even a Ford enthusiast😊.
Having done 3 headlining and many campervans it's such a great feeling covering with new materials gives you a real sense off achievement and transforms it so well all the best donny
it is isn't it? Like looking at a freshly decorated room
@@furiousdriving yes and the smell too fresh
I am so with you on the Evri subject I have lost some rare car parts over the years. This was such a satisfying video to watch nice work!
This Mondeo series of videos have been my favourite without a doubt just brilliant content 👌👌👌
Really enjoyed this series on the Mondeo. Hopefully you will do more like this.
You’ll get better results if you use the contact adhesive correctly. One surface should be sprayed horizontal and the other vertical. Allow both sides to first tack off for 10 minutes and then stick them together
Exactly, he did an awful job of the headlining, won't last long...
@@cidercecil I beg to differ, I've done it the way above before with no issues to date!
@@cidercecil Did you see the Headlining job he did in the rented garage ?
@@johnmoruzzi7236 he’s learning. We all are. Those who didn’t train as mechanics. Everyday we learn.
@@Landie_Man Yes at least this time he didn't stick it on with expanding foam...
Congratulations on the new channel sponsor! This is a great series, really like it.
Thanks, and glad you liked this one
Looking absolutely splendid now Matt. Great determination has saved a perfectly usable car from meeting the crusher.
Saving a car has a positive knock on too, effectively stopping the need for another new car to be made and hopefully preventing another useless at everything SUV polluting our roads just by being on them!
Well done! You make it look easy!
That looks great and must have been so rewarding. I’m going to miss the old girl when she is sold. 👍👍
I need to do the same job on my R8 Tourer. The headlining foam backing has turned into orange granules and the cloth sags from the rear of the sunroof to the tailgate. UGH!. Thankfully it isn't a saloon so removing the "biscuit" should be easy, once I've figured out where the plastic trim screws and other fixings are. Nice to see you do it. Gives me hope that my meagre talents will win through. Cheers for another enjoyable episode.
I got a 'job' (self-employed of course, so they didn't have to worry about things like minimum wage and holiday pay) with Evri/Hermes a year or two ago. After going through the training etc they sort of forgot I existed and accidentally assigned all my parcels to another driver. So if they can forget about their own couriers, your parcels have no chance...
The whole experience (there was more to it, too - it was a disorganised mess) made me not only not want to work for them, but to never send anything through them either.
Either way, I hope they do show up - it sucks if they do get lost through negligence. Looking awesome otherwise, great job!
Lovely job. Like the black. Good contrast with the lighter trim
The Mondeo has been an excellent project video series, and a very positive start to the year! I admire your perseverance, vision and skills in getting this car turned around from what seemed to be a “hell no” purchase 😊👍
The contrasting headlining looks a treat. I’ll be a voice in the wilderness and say don’t worry about the wheel trims, I like the steelies with that colour. Just add a set of chrome wheel nuts.
I do too! its like a 00's unmarked police car!
Well done on another fantastic job matt, I'm currently doing the headlining in my 45 and it such a satisfying job once you've done it! This way its been done with new headlining and foam which will be good for many years!
You could give those plastic clips a quick spray of Matt black. I hope those wheel covers turn up eventually and you can forward them on to the new owner…..to have them go missing again…..🤔 Top job on the headlining. That product with the foam backing is a lot easier to use than a thin fabric. Next car please……..😄👍
You've done a top job there. Very well done.
Now we're all guessing what is coming next! Will it be another Quentin/Hippo type of trade? It is good to see a 90s Ford on your channel, you've done this car proud.
Yup, they rebranded, but same old company, lost my Christmas presents.
Utterly useless.
Fantastic job . Ignore all the people going on about the headling did mine the same way using the same glue .. it never come off yet and that was 3 years ago . Keep up the good work
Nice job Matt, looks very smart.
Awesome, man! Thanks! I have the exact problem with my MK2.
Great job Matt looks amazing from what it was.
Fortunate that it didn't have a sunroof! I thought most LX's did. When you disregard Christmas and the snow, this was a very quick project, well done.
Both the Rovers do...thatll be fun!
That car looks great. It's been an interesting series. Gives me the inspiration to do more work on my own old motor
Great video as always Matt, have loved this series and I am sure the new owner is looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this Ford.
Evri seem to be having issues delivering in my local area in Edinburgh, parcels being dumped elsewhere, dumped near the sea, people getting notifications saying parcel delivered and a black photo!
So if you are at the Resto show in March, I will bring my Junk in the Trunk to you... Don't trust Evri!
Headliner repair avoidance is no ones friend. Also 10/10 for the incidental muzak choice for the hoovering.
Not car related, but I can second and most likely millionth your comment about Evri. Bought something from Fatface and delivery was by Evri. No knock at the door at delivery time, just an email to say it had been delivered - "couldn't get access to the property so left it in a secure location". There was a picture of the front of my car. There was no package so I just assumed they'd left it and someone had nicked it from under the car. Emailed them, no response. I found it later in the front room hidden behind something. He'd chucked it through an open window.
Great headlining job Matty 👍👍👍
Great restoration! the Ford parts store on eBay still sell old stock for wheel trims. There are sets for the mondeo LX there new. Would defo call that the last addition if that was my project.
New to your channel- started watching the Mondeo transformation - loved it so much. Have watched all your other videos now. Keep up the good work
Thank you!
Great work Matt. Look forward to the next, I'm sure Mrs Furious isn't looking forward to the next one🤣
Well done, Matt. Keep up the good work 👌🤝
Well done Matt, great result.
Fantastic to follow you on this one Matt. You don't see many of these kicking about these days. Great job on a budget. Look forward to the next one. I actually wish you could do a Mark 1 Ford Ka.
Nice job and the transformation that car had! A very enjoyable series to watch, loved every bit.
In the other hand, what a pain with the delivery services in this country atm. I wince when a seller send a notification and Evri/Yodel are the couriers.
Regarding January’s CPM/RPM… I’m feeling it too😢 its very poor revenue
Great Job. I have to do it sometime in the future on my Statesman. Presently held up at rear with drawing pins. Being a saloon no rear hatch to get it out. So there must be a contortionist secret. At least it’s not a job you will have to do on the Mercedes. A dropped head lining in Australia is a Safety Certificate (MOT) fail.
looks ace matt, well done!
I was so invested on this series, kinda sad it's coming to an end! Really really cool concept.
Well done Matt, I enjoyed the Mondeo series. Probably a good idea to find another candidate vehicle to improve and flip!
Not surprised you had problems with evri most do ,the Mondeo is looking good and should get a good return on it ,cool videos like your channel ...
👍
loved this series ,, was totally enjoyable
I love the way the Mazda in the background just disappeared lol.
Good job done Matt.
Really enjoyed this series, hope you do another car in the future. I also had something "lost" by Evri in November, fortunately nothing irreplaceable and I got my money back from eBay. A real shame anyone still uses them to post anything at all! Not sure how true it is, but I've seen a couple of posts now of unscrupulous people at car boots etc. selling unopened Evri parcels by the box load, something shady going on there.
Well done on the headliner! Looks great 👍. I need to fix the droopy headliner in my Rover 25. I'm not brave enough to do it myself, as I think I'd make a right hash of it! May have to get an expert to sort it out 🤣
Interesting to see how a headlining is fitted. 🙂
I did headliner on my rover 25 with sun roof, cost very little and looked better than original headliner. Was not difficult at all.
If your car needs this doing its a very easy DIY job. Don't pay loads of money to get it done or live with a sad headliner.
Damned impressive! Now you're a certified headlining specialist. That looks so much better.
You're doing a magnificent job Matt, you're an inpiration to us all, keep fixing and filming!
Super job, you made it look easy , I guess black made look more up to date, my 3rd gen Mondeo has a very dark grey roof liner . You did right stripping off the old liner, I tried to spray glue on an old Rover roof line while in situ, it held for a about 6 weeks and it started fall off more and more.
once it starts to go theres no coming back unfortunately!
Ah, so that's where I went wrong, I needed an old Merc bonnet to work on, thanks 👍
I would love another series like this one it was what got me watching your channel
Great work! Another old school blue oval put back on the road.
what a series. you have to keep it!!!!!
that colour actually suits the Mondeo matt, well done
Absolutely loved this series
Yep, never use EVRI the’ve lost 3 out of the 5 packages I’ve been expecting, luckily I managed to get a replacement or refund (not from EVRI)
Nice job Matt
Nice like it is! Without the hubcaps!
Well done Matt on a great video and a good job done on the headlining it looks great and has lifted the interior. Have enjoyed watching you bring the mondeo back to life and be good to see another if Mrs furious let’s you lol 😂
Hope it goes to a good home it’s a survivor for sure
My recommendation is to use a brush on contact adhesive such as Evo Stick applied liberally with a brush which is much stronger and longer lasting with no air pockets visible.
Even if those hubcaps were inexpensive ( real value =/= sentimental), a delivery service routinely losing packages to deliver is just sad. Okay, some packages become lost, orphaned .. but not the majority!
I fitted a new radio antenna and base, on my new-used C-Max, just to leak. So, I had to get another one, that was proper. It leaks no more, mechanics aided me in making it leak-proof. Still, when I pulled the front dome light thingy, the whole lighting inside went out. Not entirely sure if I managed to snap a cable (would be ridiculous), or a fuse just decided to go the same time. Whatever the reason, I'm not going to temper with it in the cold and rain.. because of brittle plastics and/or catching another bladder inflammation due to cold..
The Mondeo looks stunning with that headlining. Those blanking plugs or clips won't be missed. I think the color fits really well!
Very well done. Try to find a matching colour, in "juniors" Felt Tip box/pouch, and colour in those studs you left out. 🤷♂🤷♂
The missing hubcaps will most likely make it's way to the ebay under a new owner.
It's looking pretty good now, hopefully the end result will be even better!
You’ve done a grand job there Matt 🎉! Take a bow 🙇♂️
Really hope the Mondeo goes to a good home!
When I was a boy many moons ago we used to play ‘knock down ginger’ it’s now been changed to Evri!😂
I feel your pain, a guy round the corner from us used to do Hermes and the parcels were dumped at his address every day and used to be spread out all over the drive as he sorted them to deliver, worrying stuff.
Good luck, this has been a fantastic series…. PS what happened to the Aston Martin electric project?
Thanks for your hard work Matt.
It stalled for the time being
Thank you, Matt!
How common are these in the UK nowadays? In Sweden earlier Mondeos are very rare. I love the design of this particular one. The hatchback looks great in this colour... I wish I saw these more often!
this shape is very rare now mate not seen one in years even the next shape up is very rare now a days
Well done matt headlining is one of those jobs you could easily put off till tomorrow 👌👌👌👌👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very good I will try this on my rover maestro
Made a nice job there Mat
Nice to see the roof done. Unfortunately I have recently noticed the headlining is coming away on my MK2. But I have a feeling that mine is going to be a pig to do. Mine is the 4 door, so no rear hatch to slide it out through. I am hoping that with the rear seats down I can get it out of the boot, if not I think it's going to be a windscreen out job. Which will not be the end of the world because the heating elements in the front screen are shot, so it really needs to be replaced at some point.
measure the gap as it might be too narrow. You might need to take all the seats and centre cubby out to wiggle it through a door
Lo Matt, I agree with you, Hermes/ Everi absolute joke. I have issues with them as well. Headlining is a 2 person job on a saloon car.. hatchbacks as well "depending on the car". Good job . Thanks for the series. Later
They had a motto of a local company here in NZ' Serves you right ', a great motto for EVRI.
The headliner now matches the parcel shelf
This has been a great series. Maybe after market wheel trims?
Up to the new owners if they want
Well done Matt 😉👍🏴
An excellent turnaround Matt, when you look how basic the Mondeo was, is this the reason cars are so expensive now with all their gadgets and technology that many people never use or have a reason to do so.
Part of the reason definitely. The sheer physical mass of modern cars is another factor, the weight figures and dimensions speak for themselves.
Excellent job, I would remove those front headrests and give the metal rods a good clean. Looks like there is some corrosion but would be good to just make sure everything as possible has been decontaminated
Just use a permanent market in the plastic plugs Boom job done mate 😊
