With Oliver I used a Dynamite, Dragamuffin and Sweetpea Sprite. My Dragon was a beast at level 27 Psych Up then Earsplitter would take out most enemies.
Dinoceros's line was OP, give him earsplitter and watch them all fall down (except bosses, they don't like to fall down), Griphy(Griffy?) was also a life saver (literally) for Esther, rivaled my dinoceros in power
90% of my problems with this game would have been solved with the implementation of a block button rather than having to cycle through the menu to find the defend option.
I never had a problem with them going back down to level 1. This game is easy enough that you can get them back up to their previous level pretty quickly, and their stats are all the better after it.
And then there's putting the Lore together. As someone who put the pieces together for 1, putting together from 2 hurts at the feels. Of course, there's the DS, then there's the PS3 for Ni No Kuni. I am playing 2 to help me see which of the two is it following through.
It's wild how the game is simultaneously shallow and deep. The wizard's companion is tremendous and actually having to write things down from it for problem solving was a treat, I just wish there was more involvement with it, hat off to the localization team as they did a really good job.
He claims that the game goes full Bambi with Oliver's mom dying at the beginning. However, I've never cried while watching Bambi but, the scene with Oliver's mom in this game really gets me every time that I see it.
Matthew Alder just because it was made by some of the same people doesn't mean it was their first films. As far as ghibli goes totoro was the first produced by the company
Wait really? I completed the game back in 2013 on PS 3 but maybe i should play it again on Switch for the nostalgia run. Or just play again on my old dusty PS 3 beacuse it is still working
Thrilled to hear Jirard talk about this, got a huge fondness for this game even though I was never able to play it. Plus the Welsh fairies made me happy as a welsh woman, can't wait to get my hands on ni no kuni 2 now that I actually have a console it's on!
Ni no Kuni was the game that brought me to play JRPG. Before Ni no Kuni I played only a few JRPG (like Pokemon, and FF13 that I got stuck on the start. and Ar Tonelico). But after some time, I started other JRPG, and highly enjoyed them. "Tales of" became my favourite game series (which I played all the games on PS3, Including Vesperia), and Tales of Xillia is still my favourite game since I played it. I then play Nights of Azure, Golden Sun, Shining Resorance, and White Knight Chronicles, Disgaea, Ateleir, and Time and Eterinty. Most of that is thanks to Ni no Kuni.
Oh this takes me back! I bought NNK when it was first released when I was living in the middle of nowhere, Korea, to pass time. Holy smokes did it do just that! Two and a half gameplays and over 200 hours of dedication was put into this. I loved this game! This video makes me want to dig up my old copy and play it again,
Not the best game mechanically, but MAN I absolutely loved Ni no Kuni. My special edition of II just got here, I can't wait until I get to review it next month!
2 is amazing really. My only complaint on it is its way to easy combat wise and the rpg part of it Story is great so far. Only 5 hours in and level 15 or 16. Have fun with it
I just finished playing this for the first time and despite its few flaws (the familiars and rare items were a bit much. Also the dragon riding music) I loved it. I'm older and have neither the time nor the wrist strength to play a lot of games anymore, so it's really nice to have a bright, simple game like this, even if I could see the ending coming a mile away.
It's no surprise why this game is so beautiful, Studio Ghibli's artstyle is incredible. I didn't even know until a while ago that it was animated by Studio Ghibli, but it's obvious now that I know.
Yes but seek fortune basically charts out their exact locations As looking to the wizards companion and back to the map is tedious and more difficult than just simply using the spell
@@lillith7257 Yeah, but it's still really nice to have some of the stuff in the level range when you get access to the area, and lots of the stuff near the cities isn't useful for anything other than vendor trash if you wait on Seek Fortune.
What! I didn't notice that at all! The only secret treasures I'd found were just me mashing A at "suspiciously empty" pieces of the world map. Well, this is certainly a cool thing to learn since I'm playing through this on the Switch years and years after having first played this back on the PS3.
Now what got me hooked to leveling 5 was their hidden gem of a game called "Rogue Galaxy". It ended up being one of my all time favorite classic games of the ps2 era
I feel like the Wizard's Companion goes so underappreciated. It's definitely one of my highlights on playing the game for a second time, it's basically a built in wiki. It shows tons of information on nearly every enemy, tons of lore, interesting stories, foreshadowing, explanations and even the map proved very useful as it showed all the rough locations of the hidden treasures and forest dweller villages. At a lot of points in the game I said out loud "I know this, I studied my wizardry!" At least 25% of my 90 hours in the game were spent in the wizards companion I honestly want one irl
Natetroxide actually I kind of enjoyed Final Fantasy Spirits Within Myself if you forget it's a Final Fantasy sort of thing you can actually enjoy it for the story it is. It's not bad
Aside from the joke I referred to, I do agree with you. Sometimes people will hold on to certain things, story or plot or characters from other entries into a series and dictate something solely on that, when it doesn't have any connection to it other than the name. Sometimes, if you just take a step back and look at something for what it is and stop looking at what it isn't, its not that bad.
Dude, I've been working on this game for about 3 weeks and I've finally got the plat. I just want to say, thanks. I've been watching your vids in the background while endlessly grinding for alchemy ingredients. Just knowing that someone else does this crap too really helped me finish this. I almost dropped this game at least twice. That alchemy trophy is no joke.
That's what I needed to hear at the end, after about 90 hours of gameplay my journey comes to an end. While I did not complete it entirely its been a lot of fun and memories were made.
Just completed the Remastered and this game is so amazing with great story and music that I spent almost my whole 60 hours completing it with my 5 year old son and he's enjoying it along the way. He even helped me to grind some levels lol.
I had a really close friend a few years back and he loved this game and being a healer keeping a team of cute monsters going. He died back in 2016 and I'll always associate this game positively with my friendship with him, despite never owning or playing it myself.
I don't think words can express just how absolutely excited I am that you finally are covering Ni No Kuni! It's one of my all-time favorite games, and the impact and affect it had on me during an extremely hard time of my life was super meaningful. For real, I know that JRPGs take a while for you to cover because of how long they take but this is fantastic and further secures how good I feel about finally covering this game on my own channel. Can't wait to hear what you got to say on the sequel!
Phew this was a lot of memories but I need to replay this so I can beat it XD I didn't get but about 30 minutes or so from the end of the White Witch's "castle" and then I started college and couldn't play games anymore.
Im so glad u mentioned level 5 and dark cloudXD Ive heard ppl talking abt ni no kuni without mentioning level 5 when they're largely responsible for the game~ So thank you jirard!!!
I hadn't watched a video from you in a long time but when I saw you were covering this game I had to watch it! This is definitely in my top 5 JRPGs of all time. The fact that someone would 100% this beast blows my mind. Nothing but respect for Beardman. Keep up the solid work ^-^
I remember playing a demo of this back in the day, and really wanting to get a PS3 just for it. I never did, but even still it remains one of my all-time favourite RPGs.
MAN, I love this game! This was actually the first JRPG I ever beat and is pretty much responsible for getting me into the genre in the first place despite being surrounded by it growing up. A lot of fond memories with this one ^_^
One of my favorite games of all time! Every time I fired this game up I was awestruck by just how beautiful the game was, like playing a painting. This episode was a pleasant surprise and I'm even more excited to dig into Revenant kingdom

I found this sorting through PS store deals. Opening that menu up with a UA-cam tab open to check out reviews of the games I find opens the potential to find hidden treasures I wouldn't have normally checked out like this.
Yesyesyeayesyesyesyesyesyesyeayes!!!!!!!!!! I love you and your beard! I preordered the sequel after making this game my favorite of all time. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom comes out in 5 minutes. I'm ready to explode!!!!!
the effing rare alchemy parts after the game is over is what I've never been able to complete, I haven't finished your video but if you did... YOURE A GOD I played the game with the Japanese voices I've never played it in english I should tho lol
Did you know that the DS version of the game came with an actual bound book of the wizard's companion which you need to play the game? You need to look up the spells the first time you use them and some of the puzzles rely on the player finding the answers in the actual physical book! Additionally it also has a few short stories that are written in a fairy tale style and that flesh out the Ni no Kuni world! It is such a shame that the DS version never made it across the ocean from Japan. I got the Japanese DS game and the book and it was an amazing feeling playing the game with the book in hand. It is also beautifully illustrated and explains the in-game mechanics very meticulously. You can basically feel the care and charm that was put into this game oozing from this book! I wish they also included it with the PS3 game but I suppose the costs to actually print that would be enormous.
I fucking love you so much for this, Gerard. I've wanted to see you complete this for a while. This game is a huge undertaking! You're doing God's work, son, keep up the great work
I remember the days that i searched 2 years for the collector's edition and never found it... but after 2 years i just bought it on the ps store and loved every minute of it.
As much as I loved this game. I just really want a dark chronicle 3... I don't know why they don't think it's a good idea. Especially after finding out in this video that it sold so well.
I may be late to the party, but the last gaming console/handheld I owned was the 2DS. I got my Switch Lite this week, this game was on sale and this review did it for me. I'm enjoying it so far being that it's my first time playing it. Thank you, Jirard!
Herman Falck How I was thinking that to, because I don’t want to play the second after looking at the first one. The world and Pokemon aspect interest me more.
Even after knowing the full story and having had five years between discovery and getting the game finally into my hands, it's still a game I absolutely love playing after school and a game I love delving into. I can spend hours and hours flipping through the Wizard's Companion alone without feeling tired or bored. God, I love this game - Years of knowing the story and wanting to play the game was 110% worth it. I didn't have a PS4. Originally I was hesitating on buying a Switch - I wanted to play BOTW as well as BOTW2 when it later came out, but I didn't want to invest in a Switch for only two games. Then I heard Ni No Kuni was being ported/remade for the Switch. That alone would've tipped me over, I wanted to play the game so bad - it's been worth every single penny, even after five years of knowing the story and waiting for the day I can finally play. (...if you think this was a long rant, just wait until I stop talking about the sequel. I have very many angry words, especially where Evan is involved. I really didn't like him-)
Dark cloud was fantastic, dark chronicle on the other hand is one of the best PS2 games ever, imo. Please bring it back, another sequal is my dream game from Level 5.
I enjoyed playing Ni no Kuni my first playing it a couple years ago, and would definitely play it again for the story (maybe attempt at 100% completion). This was one of my favorite RPGs on the PS3 and I am glad you got around to it.
I had to laugh at this bit. Its like being in the middle of running a marathon and you just happen to clothesline your grade school bully in the process without stopping.
Very very cool video, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I never owned a ps3, just xbox360s, and have always felt like I've missed out on Ni no kuni. I own a PS4 now but it sadly overheats constantly, so I decided on getting Ni no kuni 2 on my laptop and I am having tons of fun. Also it runs great, maxed settings, and looks absolutely beautiful. I Subscribed and plan on watching all of your videos, based off of this video alone I expect that I will not be disappointed. Thanks for all your work and that of your team as well, please keep on creating and take care!

Japan needs to learn that there a more than 4 buttons on a controller.

My biggest issue was how Familiars went to level 1 after metamorphic.
I never had a problem with them going back down to level 1. This game is easy enough that you can get them back up to their previous level pretty quickly, and their stats are all the better after it.
Poor Jirard. Jrpgs aren't friendly to completionists.
You would have thought he'd learn after the _Golden Turd_ he received in Breath of The Wild...
It would be if he just played the Suikoden games.
And then there's putting the Lore together. As someone who put the pieces together for 1, putting together from 2 hurts at the feels.
Of course, there's the DS, then there's the PS3 for Ni No Kuni. I am playing 2 to help me see which of the two is it following through.
Unless they're sadistic.
But he IS supposed to be a completionist.
Those cut scenes and overall art work style are five star. Incredible.

I love watching Oliver go up and down stairs it makes you feel like someone actually took time and care to make this game!
There's so many small quirks like that. Even how Oliver opens his mouth very slightly when he begins walking.
Absolutely true
He claims that the game goes full Bambi with Oliver's mom dying at the beginning. However, I've never cried while watching Bambi but, the scene with Oliver's mom in this game really gets me every time that I see it.

the effing rare alchemy parts after the game is over is what I've never been able to complete, I haven't finished your video but if you did... YOURE A GOD

Creepy comment.
1 of my just 3 platinum trophies, i loved this game sooooo much
Welcome to Japanese RNG, the evilest of all RNG.
I was just looking for this video last week and realized you hadn’t made one yet. Thanks for reading my mind!
I'm currently playing on the switch and I finally caught a toko. 10 hours later it is finally level 5. This is going to take a while.
I really do have to thank you for avoiding story spoilers, i was afraid i couldnt finish the episode
I love this game. When I saw this, I dropped everything
so did i just as i was about to continue playing this exact game
Great show as always! You should complete crypt of the necrodancer.
This was such an amazing episode!!!! I’m so glad you completed this game!!!
They should do a PS4 remaster of this game. Hyped for the sequel, but the first one is one of my favorite JRPGs ever.
Herman Falck How
I was thinking that to, because I don’t want to play the second after looking at the first one. The world and Pokemon aspect interest me more.
carlos sibrian
And playing second after playing one actually gives players the feels trip, for those who understood the story and lore.
Wish granted!
I really didn't like him-)
wait people know about dark cloud? I thought it was the spellforce of the ps2
I honestly thought I was the only one who liked Dark Cloud.
Yeah I was only half watching the video but heard that and cracked up
Are you saying people don't know about Spellforce? o.O
Dark Cloud is way too underrated. I loved that game, especially the duels or the georama system. It really needs a remake.
Please Complete the original Devil May Cry games
This makes me so happy. I love your videos but after a sorta crappy day it makes me happy to watch you complete one of my favorite games
"my favorite scene is none of it"
LOL!!!!!!
I had to laugh at this bit. Its like being in the middle of running a marathon and you just happen to clothesline your grade school bully in the process without stopping.
It's so nice to see someone mention Dark Cloud when talking about Level 5 :D
Ni No Kuni. Is on my list of games to get and that list keeps on growing.
The battle system reminds me more of final fantasy 12, than kingdom hearts.
I Played this game a few years back and I loved every minute of it
