I platinumed both the wrath of the white witch and revenant kingdom. For the first I found a spreadsheet for familiars and a separate one for alchemy. Lol playing ps3 on TV, desktop on with open office or whatever, phone and tablet both out, all to keep track of familiars and items. Good tip with the veil spell on tokos, never even crossed my mind and those little bastards are quick
This is a fantastic in-depth video!! Years ago I watched Vintage beef play the game back on the ps3 atleast twice. I just got the remastered on the pc and I’m loving it. So these tips and tricks will be applicable to me since I’m actually playing it haha!
Hi. Great video (and series!). Great tips. *spoiler* When given the choice from 3 familiars at the Temple of Trials, I normally choose Shonky Honker as levelling it up completes a quest for Derwin in the late game. However, I think your good suggestion of a healer is something I have not tried before, and will try give a go :)
That's a great tip! I didn't think of that. I normally catch a Shonky Honker in The Tombstone Trail (i think!) but choosing it would definitely make the Derwin quest easier, since they can be a pain, and Esther and her Drongo are sufficient healers anyway :)
Game's actually easy IF you exploit the Tokotokos before Shadar... I did and got to level 90s and two dinos red and blue. Had beaten Shadar in Mid 50s but loaded an older save to grind and build up some Familiars as I struggled in that fight due to using weak familiars I had grown attached to..
If you need to find the hidden chest before you get the spell go to your map in The Notebook the map pieces that you find throughout the world. Well when you go to that map in The Notebook there are little key holes on the map when you zoom in. That is the location of the hidden chests
Ugh I feel like I'm in the worst spot after watching these videos. 1. I had no idea you could trade in familiar tickets at the Trials (gimmy that griffon!). 2. I can't do toko xp grind as I went towards Hamelin and now in some familiar town unable to get on the boat again. 3. I don't like guessing at recipes so now I learning how to get 70mp coffees is something I need to grind for. These vids are definitely a big help as I've been nearing quitting the game from frustrations.
if you managed to get past 'the eye of the storm' boss battle then you should be okay. You can battle familiars on Teeheeti to grind and they will start to run away when you are levelled up enough. I would recommended being level 26-28 for the next section. You could also sell items in your inventory to get money to buy iced/strong coffees to restore MP :)
Finally going for the Platinum on PS3 with my launch copy of it! I’m at the point where I’m grinding on Ugly Ducking Island and exterminating the Toko population for 2k EXP a piece (and creating an army of OP Familiars) Such a fun game once you’re at a good enough level w/ your Tanky familiars to be able to mindlessly attack anything in front of you 👍🏽
I really don't understand how anyone could struggle with the "riddles", unless (like me) initially you tried to figure it out without talking to the Monitor Bird for a hint. It's not even so much a hint as it is the actual problem you are suppose to solve. Otherwise, the game gives you nothing to go on.
Exactly. The trial is about showing intelligence for knowing when you need to ask for help and the wisdom to be able to put aside your pride to do so. Something most people are not capable of doing. This is honestly, in my opinion, one of the single MOST clever puzzles in gaming ever. It is NOT Oliver being tested in this trial. It is the player. That is what this game is about. Oliver is a vehicle for the player to learn and deal with their own state of mind. This game is literally about dealing with depression. Every Broken-Hearted NPC in the game is suffering from a symptom of depression. As someone with Clinical Depression I recognized and related to this game on a different level. It also helped teach 18 year old me (when the original ps3 version came out), what I was dealing with. This game has helped me deal with every loss suffered in my life and helped me realize what symptom of depression I was dealing with.
This deserves way more love. I really dig Ni No Kuni. Right now I'm grinding to take on the Hamelin boss that stomped on me more time than I'd like to admit. Great vid.
Aww thank you :) Porco Grosso is weak to storm magic so its good to use Esther's Drongo familiar that can use Thunderspark move. I try to alternate between Oliver and Drongo because the Drongo moves quite slowly and Oliver is better at running away and defending! I also did a video demonstration on XP grinding which might help - ua-cam.com/video/O9ThTW-U7L0/v-deo.html
As far as I know there is no difference between the PS4 and Switch versions...but I could be wrong, I don't even own a Switch haha but yeah, have fun! :D
@@Magnus_Strand84 Its really a judgement call. The game does show when the familiar has been maxed out and cannot gain more XP... but if you are trophy hunting (or want slightly higher base stats after metamorphosis) then you can continue feeding them treats in the creature cage :)
I'm sorry :( I didn't think I showed any spoilers since the game shows a lot of spoilers in its opening trailer anyway....but you are not the first person to comment on this. I made this video a long time ago when i was still new to UA-cam and I have since learnt my lesson! My newer videos are spoiler-free x
The battle system is a hybrid between turn-based and live action combat. You can either use party members and their magic/abilities/provisions or send out familiars and issue commands, similar to Pokemon :) What attacks you use depends on the foe and their weaknesses. Familiars also share HP and MP with party members...you are not the first person to be confused with the battle system so don't worry! There's a lot of different mechanics but once you get the hang of it, its brilliant! I hope this helps a little :)
@@Amalgamingle agreed, it's actually a short Jrpg I think I got about 60 hours on it so far and close to beating it but I did farm the Tokotokos and got two dinosaur guys , one of each before Shadar and leveled up to the 90s as a result and simply veiled my way to end dungeon where I left off after the Councilor fight.
Same with me. It just breaks the game, so I don't bother with it. I actually tend to target the 'crappy' familiars that I still like the design of. Makes it funner :P

The tickets are in the original, but I think you had to earn them, and some of them were pre-orderes.

The test of wits was easy, but the friendship test was quite challenging because of the not very sharp controls.

Love both videos. Really great 😊👍
The green dinosaur with the breastplate and "Earsplitter." There. You just broke the game in half.
Why settle for one when you can capture two.

You can only do
Max Money glitch on the
Switch version.
The Temple of friendship was always hard it’s hard to control both characters I kept falling.
I gave up after 20 or so attempts at the second Casino level. my brain ain't wired like that.
The trials were doable though
1:33 is it just me? or do monsters on remaster version never seem to be facing you when catched.
Your videos are nice and so is the narration.

Things I wish I knew? It has massive grind requirements even on easy difficulty. Pass on this one if you value your time
It does feel grindy at first but once you can access certain XP exploits its game-changing
i had the same feeling with dragon quest 11, the game itself is really awesome, but the grind at some point is horrendous...
You just need to know where to grind

How do i get the moms room formula?
I got the formula post game by going back to Motorville and looking in Oliver's mothers bedroom :)
The griffith is too good. Basically soloes every battle even in white witches castle - if I start again will not use it for a challenge -
With a monolith
Yeah, a lot of players don't like using Dinoceros either because it's so strong it breaks the game 🤣

You should play the game with japonese voiceovers for more authenticity playing
I will definitely try that! :)
i do i dont like them in english if i can play in origanl voice i do on any jrpg if can
Lololol dooooooorks...the Japanese would accept u as their own. They are impressed believe me.
"Authenticity". What? Do you believe code comes with a native language? Does all code speak Japanese?
I love that Catastroceros attack is 666
Why because it reminds you of the devil
