This game looks interesting, but I think I'll wait for it for a price drop. Also side note for The Know, I'm really liking this long form discussion especially as it's own video. Update: I just got it and oh boy, I am loving this game so much.
Dan Walsh I know this was months ago u wrote this but I missed the first game I was a 360 gamer, I've never really played jrpgs but I love studio ghiblis art style their films are awesome! This looks like a ghibli film in a game so I've decided to buy it myself for Xmas it's on the way I'll have it in a few days!... hope I enjoy it?
What a truly facininating conversation. Great views from both sides. I've played Ni No Kuni on the PS3 and would still suggest people pick that up on sale. I got it dirt cheap and it's one of my favorite games ever. Will be picking this up for regular PS4. My only concern is that I'll struggle to read the text on my small TV. Would be ideal on a gaming monitor so less strain. Hopefully there is a HUD size option. Again, great video.
I’m impressed by how thorough you guys were. You can definitely tell you put a lot of thought into this review as you played the game. This is definitely a step in the right direction for the channel. I like that you aren’t doing another “star” or numeric based score, but I wish you would find a more original scoring method (play/wait/skip is too similar to ACG’s scoring method). Keep up the good work!
I usually do not enjoy review shows, but after watching this and the Tomb Raider review, I really am enjoying how "The Know" does reviews. I enjoy the discussion between the hosts as they discuss the game/movie. Well done.
Having finally acquired this game, this review is incredibly accurate. The first hour and a half of the game is kind of slow-ish but as soon as you're through that, it is a fantastic Adventure. Thank you for recommending this game, it's been on my radar since this review popped up and Ashley gushed about it. Absolutely worth the wait.
I dont usually play these types of games but wanted something different and bought the wraith of the white which when it came out and loved it. One of the best overall games i ever played. This looks to top the first one! Pre ordered and OMG I can't wait to play Revenant Kingdom!!!
Enemies appearing on overworld is one of the reason I loved the first Grandia game. I bought the first Ni No Kuni for a ridiculous low price on PSN and, althought I didnt play it yet, I'm totally towards this second game. It looks incredible.
Although The Know is a part of Rooster Teeth, the people in charge of the different branches varies and this isn't the first time they've done this. They used to do a random game drawing where they would give games a thumb up or down after a few of them played it.
Thanks for the review, I was already sold on the game (I preordered the king edition for PS4) but you convinced me that I will indeed have a good time. Can't wait to play now.
whenever i meet someone with a nose ring i ask them who owns them. because that's how they marked cattle as owned before they figured out branding was easier.
I'm not very far, but I REALLY wish I could speed Evans walking pace in the overworld by 1.25x or so. Inside of an area his pacing seems solid but in the overworld it just feels like it takes forever to backtrack over where I've already explored just to pick up another "good egg" that happened to spawn. I'm enjoying the pacing of the game its not got me bored yet and I'm about 6-7 hours in, I just genuinely wish I could get around the overworld a touch faster, like at least add a sprint for a short time and I'd be happy. Also, not sure if it's true but jumping seems to be faster than walking based on the following distance of the characters.
I bought this yesterday, looking forward to getting into this. I have fallen out of love with the FPS genre, and I need a change of pace. I have not played a JRPG since FFVII on PS1, so I am looking forward to this.
Hmmm I don't like how you made the video. You don't look at the camera... Feels like both are explaining the game to each other but you clearly played and liked it. Just a weird decision
This is probably a me thing cuz I don't eat food in games for temporary buffs but after a while all the enemies were doing like 400 damage while I'm like "sir, my max hp is 1200, please stop" I don't refuse to eat to challenge myself btw, I have adhd and can't be bothered
This was a good one, I think a bit more production value or formality as a review/pseudo review and it would make it even better. I appreciate no score nonsense, and I like having someone who usually plays this sort of game talking to someone who doesn’t, hope that becomes the regular. I’ve strayed away from Jrpgs of late but I might just buy this and persona 5 soon
I'm on the fence about this game, but I can tell you that Persona 5 is absolutely worth it. I've sunk countless hours into it, and it's more than made up the $60 to me. (Which is good, because I ended up having to buy it twice)
It's on sale in UK on PS4 I could get The princes edition but don't like paying £50 for game if possible so going with the £30 ( reduced from £50 version which is not the bonus material version ) I can't wait to try it. Heard so many great reviews so far. Hope it lives up to my expectations.
correction: the first game is not a ps3 exclusive, it's originally released on the DS in Japan the DS version is a strategy based combat system, the ps3 version is actually a re-imagined version of the DS game they replaced the strategy system with a fast paced action + turn based combat and overhaul the graphics entirely. most people call the ps3 version the console edition of ni no kuni 1.
As someone who doesn't really play jrpg's aside from Star Ocean I can say after about 20hrs of play that this game is a must buy for anyone that enjoys a good story driven rpg. Doesn't matter if you don't like jrpg's, buy this game. Also, although I own a PS4 Pro I got this on PC, it really shines at 60fps.
I didnt realize before this was an action rpg, I didn't play the first because turn-based rpg's are tedious for me. Passing up the first was really hard because I absolutely adore Studio Ghibli. I'm glad they changed up combat, because now I'm confident this is a game I can enjoy.

I have been playing it for a long time and i don't play jrpgs so i have 1 question... I'd like to play this one but I really wanna play the first one before I do. Does anyone know if Ni No Kuni is available on PS4 in any capacity - hardcopy or download code - that wouldn't require me to have any kind of subscription like PS Plus or something?
I agree with everything you guys said, this game is awesome but the difficulty is a tad easy. For those people who want a more difficult challenge just unequip everything from your party and even their spells and only level up the character you like most. You'll be able to focus more on making cool combos and you'll be the only one casting spells. I found that way kinda boring though because some of the specials the other characters do are really awesome. I feel like this game was meant to be easy.
I had a 360 last generation so missed the original game, also I've never really played JRPGS but I absolutely love studio ghibli films so I've decided to try this game now I have a PS4, it's ordered waiting for delivery...hope I like it I'm scared I'll be overwhelmed but the graphics speak to my inner child Lol
Caz pretty much how I described it to some friends, it's a Tales game to play while waiting for a Tales game to release. Not a bad thing by any means, it feels like a game that would have been released directly after Vesperia, as opposed to a rails rpg like Xillia.
So the game is easy. The completionist stuff intrigues me as well as the themes presented but if there is no challenge this is no different from watching an anime where the pause and play buttons are substituted for random buttons on the controller, no planning, no strategizing, just watching a game almost play itself as you move your character forward.
Just hope they can do voice-over for all conversations of the characters in the game. its very tiring to read it all. Square-Enix was able to do it, why can't other companies do it.

what my most fun favourite thing in crafting weapons and armour makes fun for me in most games that do this for me and one other to add is doing dungeons as and lots loots drops they few things I love but wish for game add mounts to ride would be great PS it come to switch you forgot to or say maybe it this done before it did come to the switch I just going to be having fun bash getting loot and mats to farm and do some crafting yay let framing fun begins to craft good weapons and armour
The only things which lets this game down and in a way spoils it which could have been taken away in the space of it being pushed back three times, is the constant need to put in real life mobile apps into a JRPG. For a start, Leafbook... I don't see why we need a Facebook type thing in it. The chibi skirmishes which is pretty much clash of clans, kingdom builder which is like any other mobile strategy game where you build a kingdom and maintain it. Also the puzzle floors where you have to solve the riddles with the platform steps disappearing, there are also many mobile phone puzzle games like that too. The Higgledies are cute yes, but there is no need for them to be in the game, you don't even need them in combat with you as the battles are way too easy, especially as Evan has his wand which fires out elemental attacks at the enemies and drops them in one or two moves, so to have elemental Higgledies is complete waste of time. They're pretty much just for merchandise purposes for people to want to buy little figures of them. The Lisa Simpson look alike fairy was definitely shoe horned into Evans life as opposed to Ollie and Mr Drippy where Mr Drippy served a purpose and had a reason to be there, Lisa Simpson is just there to form a bond with the king which has no emotional value. The characters are ok and the story is a bit bland, but I feel this game has definitely been over hyped and isn't what classic Ni No Kuni is supposed to be. Take out those 'mobile games' within the game and you have a classic JRPG. The scores for this game are definitely over scored. I'd put it under Ni No Kuni 1, and give it a 5/10. It's a shame Ni No Kuni has become like this now. Studio Ghibli should have taken the reigns of this one as it's not a very compelling story, evil guy takes over a kingdom and rebels fight to get it back. Compare that story with NNK1 and it's loving charm it gives to the player all the way through and you find yourself thinking 'is this it? Is this all they could muster as a sequel after 8 years? There are many stories out there where evil people take over kingdoms' but NNK1 was a fresh new intelligent story which really made you think I received my kings edition and it’s stunning, but the beginning of the game is a bit awkwardly suggestive, a nuclear weapon goes off in New York and the president gets taken away... kinda feels like today’s North Korea wanting to send a missile to America... Probably best not to put in real life situations with what world leaders want to do to one another in a sweet and innocent game 😕
Add to _fuckin_ cart. After grimdark games like DS1 where the best you can hope for is suicide or all-things-ending. A feelgood story sounds like a good breather.
Mr. Beard playing on PC but wanted a couch experience. Ever heard of an HDMI cable? It's a crazy new invention that sends audio and video signals in one cable. Try it next time.

You can play it on pc with a controller
Really want to try this. Never played the first but wanted too.... But Monster Hunter World is taking up so much of my time...
Lack of challenge is a problem that all reviews point out, which is worrying.
the FOK is in his nose!? somebody call an ambulance!!!
There are many stories out there where evil people take over kingdoms' but NNK1 was a fresh new intelligent story which really made you think
I received my kings edition and it’s stunning, but the beginning of the game is a bit awkwardly suggestive, a nuclear weapon goes off in New York and the president gets taken away... kinda feels like today’s North Korea wanting to send a missile to America... Probably best not to put in real life situations with what world leaders want to do to one another in a sweet and innocent game 😕
Finally game reviews. YES YES YES
I feel like you subvert your own video by putting your verdict in the thumbnail.
