The golden poop seems to be a comment on completionism just for the sake of it. The collectables are CLEARLY designed to not be collected 100%, there are so many that you'd naturally find a lot no matter where you explore. I think it's funny, personally.
Thing is, completion for its own sake is just fun for some people. They derive enjoyment from it, and games like BotW literally shit on them for it, and make what they do FOR FUN nothing but a chore. It's really uncool, and devs should be more considerate of completionists.
fully agreed, i cant tell how much i hate rain when collecting korok seeds, i had to idle 10 minutes near a small hill because link kept slipping down , thats the stuff they should show in trailers , truly great design choice , i even have 5 stamina upgrades , still not enough to climb up any cliff during rain also ,if weather was more consistent it woudlnt be as bad either but you can go from bright sunny day to rain in minutes
I mean it kinda is. The seeds stop meaning anything after 450. So you have 450 moments to give what you're doing a hard think and realize it's pointless :P. An easy fix would be to have the completion meter tied to the inventory slots not the seeds. SO you would only have to get 450 to 100% rather than the 900
i've done almost all 120 shrines and somehow only found 76 korok seeds. I feel I've ran into most of hte obvious rock and magensis ones so I'm like where the hell are the rest haha
The seeds are literally in the most most obscure places you'd think of. A random tree, side of a building, etc. What is worse is even with a guide you need one that says how to get the seeds, as all guides I have seen show where the seed ends not where it starts. Aka all the flower trails, races aren't where the guide shows, so you then have to look around to even find the damn things. I just finished getting 900 of them today. I got the golden poo and was like ah funny poking fun at the ridiculous task, followed by a what the hell why would that be the reward.....
After putting just under 400 hours into "Breath of the Wild," I am proud to say that I have THE ULTIMATE COMPLETION GAME FILE!!! What exactly does that mean? Basically, it's an OCD person's wet dream! I defeated Calamity Ganon! I conquered all four divine beasts! I finished all 120 shrines, and found all the treasure chests inside them! I found all 900 korok seeds, and obtained one piece of golden poop! I finished every single side quest AND shrine quest! I unlocked all my memories! I filled in the entire Hyrule Compendium! I found, and fully upgraded, every piece of armor AND horse armor! Finally, if you look at my inventory, I have exactly 50 of every single item in the game (excluding fairies since you can't carry that many)! What's that? What about all the extra content? That's right! I also obtained ALL the amiibo armor/items as well, and upgraded them all! I completed all the DLC.... AND I DID THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN IN MASTER MODE!!!!!! My game file is COMPLETE!!!! I decided to leave it with Link standing on the cliff, just outside of the shrine of resurrection, looking out over Hyrule, wearing his champion's tunic, hylian trousers, and only the master sword strapped to his back, just like in his memories.
What about getting 999 of every item of which you can get that many at the same time? I'm not going to stop playing the game until that's the case with me and my copy of the game on my main account.
I like how he says that he wants music playing whilst riding a horse when there’s literally 2 themes made specifically for that and play when that happens.
@@karaltar7914 that would drive peole insane with how big hyrule is in BOTW. That would be a horrible design decision , also what was with him saying link and Zelda’s relationship wasn’t romantic in this game when it clearly was. She was clearly in love with him by the time of the last memories
This game is NOT designed for 100% completion. The fact that one of your completion bonuses is literally a golden turd is all the proof I need. Not even once.
@@peng9923 100% in botw does not include all korok seeds; I feel that people just don't get that the reason why they included more seeds than you need is so that you could relax a bit more and not have to scan every innch of the game. It is so obvious.
It's amusing how Jirard obviously completely missed the final interaction with Kass in Rito Village after completing all of his riddles by saying in the video that Link and Zelda have no romantic involvement in this game. Kass literally says his teacher was in love with Zelda and lamented that she "only had eyes for her appointed knight attendant" and wrote the lyric "the princess's love for her fallen knight awakens her power, and in the castle the Calamity is forced to cower". Has Nintendo _ever_ been that straightforward before? lol
@@VitorMerschmann If you look up the original Japanese translations of the adventure log that are written from Link's point of view it's pretty obvious that he had feelings for her, too, what with talking about how beautiful her voice was and how much he wanted to see her smile again with his own eyes. It definitely gives a different ring to the repeated phrase from the shrine monks, "May the goddess smile upon you." doesn't it??
@@kriscynical wow didn't knew that!!! but it seems that the english translation, unfortunatelly, lost a lot from the original =/ but it sure adds a lot!
@@jamesallmon7756 She's the direct genetic descendent of Hylia; it's why she has the golden power. That was established in Skyward Sword with Demise's curse; that an incarnation of his hate would follow those with the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero for the rest of time. Zelda in that game is Hylia in mortal form, and I believe it was confirmed in Hyrule Historia that the Zelda and Link in Skyward Sword were the origin of the royal family of Hyrule, so Hylia's bloodline is the royal family.
Reminds me of how when I played this game, I got past a lot of difficult enemies to reach a shrine/treasure/tower/whatever just by climbing stuff, and in some cases, gliding to a spot after climbing stuff. And as for the completionist's complaint about rain... Yes, it sucks, but at least you can predict it, as you have a weather forecast feature near the clock. So I've often checked this forecast before climbing something, and not even bothered if rain was coming up.
Jirard: The reward for collecting all the monster hunting medals is the Dark Link set. Me, who didn't even know the medals existed and bought the Dark Link set because it appeared in Kiltons store at some point: Uhhhhhhhhhh
Jirard got that one wrong, too (the other being you don't have to collect all the chests in the shrines to 100% the game). You get access to the Dark Link set after you do all 4 Divine Beasts. The reward for killing all the monsters in Hyrule are the medas themselves.
There’s actually an explanation in-game as to why link is mostly (entirely) silent, he has anxiety over having to save the ENTIRE world, and apparently used to be very talkative and arrogant
Best side quest in the game. I’m actually doing a play through right now in preparation for Tears of the Kingdom and I’m setting a personal limit for myself: once I do all the Divine Beasts, I’m gonna do From the Ground Up (the village building side quest) and whatever state I’m in when that quest is done is gonna be what I take out Ganon in so I don’t get too left behind by everybody playing Tears of the Kingdom because starting a new play through so close to TOTK’s launch date seems like a bad idea for some reason yet I did it anyway!
@@Chad_Eldridge I have 200 Platinums, so I understand the desire to complete a game. But, if Nintendo don't want to focus on that, or put some kind of incentive into the game for getting 100%. At least they made it completely clear they knew what they were doing, by giving you golden poo.
re: the music I tend to disagree, I think the music use was damn near perfect. It had meaning, only appearing in certain and at certain times, and therefore it really struck you more when you heard it. Particularly in the cutscenes and residential areas, as well as boss fights, environmental shifts and when my boy Kass is near.
The only musical aspect I didn't really like was the horse riding music, but i rode horses so rarely that it wasn't a big deal. But the environmental feel with each song that did play was so wonderful. The transition from the day theme to night theme of a town is seamless and beautiful.
Sosayweall jpg that and the temple of time and hyrule field themes were slowed down and fragmented versions of the original ocarina of time soundtracks
I enjoyed that it was subtle, more akin to the Skyrim soundtrack rather than a normal zelda soundtrack. Imagine with a normal zelda track everytime youh were in the overworld, shit would be wack
Every song on the soundtrack is in fact in the game from what I can tell. The songs are often so subtle that they just feel like background noise much of the time.
The Completionist: says rain makes this not top 3 Zelda games of all time Also Him: never learned in his 200+ hours of game time that the metal weapons cause lightning strikes
Also the blood moon, don't forget about the blood moon. When I was trying to climb the tower with the three electro-wizrobes around it, I took care to kill each one, but just when the third one was about to die, what kind of moon showed up? That's right. Also when I was doing Mipha's part of the champion's ballad where you have to kill a bunch of guardians. Just when I had wasted almost all of my arrows killing one of them (out of four, I believe), what colour does the fucking moon have? That's right!
imo that is why nintendo needs some sort of trophy/achievement system. maybe 100% playthroughs can unlock/reward things like themes then but so far the switch still seems barebone. great game choices but a very minimalistic console otherwise still even after over a year.
19:44..... oh my god. Oh my GOD. are you kidding me?! You can break those with the ice rune?!? How many arrows did I waste! How many hearts did I lose!! I'm so pissed!!!
The ice rune is also the only rune I constantly forgot about... There where so many puzzels where I was splashing around in water for 5 minutes without having any idea on what to do
I only visited the horse fairy one time, which was to unlock it. I ride my horses around all the time, but NEVER into battle. The only time one of my horses got hurt was when a moblin randomly started attacking a merchant and hit my horse instead. I was so angry at the Moblin that I showed no mercy when attacking...
@The1st Taco 😱😱😱 Your poor horses 😭😭😭 Honestly, I only ride my horses for fun, which isn't often, BUT every now and then I take them all out of the stable one at a time (I have 5 horses), give them a ride, some soothing and some apples, and them bring them back to the stable. I love my horses too much 😂🐴❤️
_ Baguette _ yeah ion give a shit about my horse when I got the master cycle zero. Horses control way worse and are a million times slower. Oh, and they can’t be spawned unless you do that stupid ancient gier side quest
So the longer time you take to complete it the more enjoyment you will get. 240 hour to complete everything? It obviously will be boring. But with the accomplishable goals, you will have a reason to come back, pick up 4 or 5 korok seeds/ star fragments/ upgrade required stuff from time to time. It's fun for me. edited: sorry, I just realized so many people are arguing with my wording, but I completely don't mean that collecting korok poop will be boring. I guess what I should use is fatigue. The fatigue of trying to complete everything in such a short time.
Yeah the game may be fun for quite a while and then what? You don't have to give over powered stuff as a reward for doing something that takes a while to complete a decent reward is enough. Give something fun for player to make it worth and extend that play time a bit. You may be joking but if not it just sounds as a fanboy opinion. Don't make excuses for the game but criticize it so that sequels may improve on it.
@@grimoireweiss5203 I agree. I feel the storyboard of this game was somehow pieced together by cheaptalk rather than actually being stringed together with intentions based on each character's relationship to Link. Saying that collecting things is the end-all for a Zelda game is not customary of Zelda games at all. Sure you needed to collect things to meet a required deficiency. That used to be the achilles heel that we got used to. But getting rid of it basically led me to believe there was something else worth discovering. All I hear is people raving about playing a copious amount of time grinding, almost as if Kishimoto was exploiting it this time around. The puzzles, the cryochamber blueness and the Sheikah cryptic elders are so samey and I will not miss them if they are forgotten in BoTW 2. Other than that a few gimmicks I was displeased with were the durability allotments for your weaponry, the same horse and bed rental with the same salespeople everywhere, the fact that your focus on the sheikah slate makes you prone to tagging towers miles away, and just seeming overall like a waste of asset equity. I'm sorry this game was so bad. I would have rather played an old Zelda game on the N64 or Gameboy.
I actually loved that Link DIDN'T have a voice in Breath of the Wild because, for the first time, it was actually done with intention. One of Zelda's journals in her study makes note that Link might have been through great traumas in his past that have scarred him emotionally and keep him from speaking. That's just....so damn well written. Also, Jirard, not only is there music on horseback, there's both a day AND night variant of the track (and it's easily one of my favorite songs in the game). Clearly you didn't ride a horse for more than ten second at once to not have heard the track lol.
Yeah, but isnt it stated somewhere (if not, then heavily implied at some point) that Link didn’t speak because it made it easier for him to bear the stress of his task? Idk. Maybe that’s in the same area as past traumas. Both explanations though really humanize Link and make him relatable
@@sealink129 I think you're right, and our individual interpretations don't conflict with each other either. He's just a really subtle and well written character in this game. :^)
Nintendo did this on purpose. They want people to understand that they should just play the game for fun, instead of completing everything, unless you find that fun, which for me can tend to be fun. Anywho, someone on UA-cam put out that they think nintendo is trying to get this across: "It's not about getting everything done, its about the journey in the game"
Thing is, Nintendo is literally shitting on people who find completion fun. They put 900 of a collectible in the game, OBVIOUSLY people are going to accept the challenge of getting all of them. And what do they give those people when they finally do it? Essentially a middle finger.
Bit late but that basically shows that developers will waste forever writing lines of code to create areas where these korok seeds would be all over the map. For it to be for nothing. They wasted more time than the people who 100%'d this game essentially. I suppose crunch culture doesn't exist if you're a sadomasochist. Or Japanese. Assuming there's any difference as far as Taimanin Asagi is concerned. but hey who am I to lecture self sabotaging ethnic groups.
@@user-vp6cq4sv3d there is a game design reason why there are so many. It's to make them easy and quite common for the regular player so they don't need to scour the map just to upgrade their inventory
Breath of the Wild... the first game that I got hooked on within 5 minutes AND the first game that I truly thought was beautiful. The game is such a masterpiece that you have so much fun with. Except the Yiga Clan hideout. That shit was annoying.
I brute forced it, ignoring stealth. For the big guys, I jumped from high (Revali's Gale where necessary), and bomb arrow volley with a multi-shot bow.
I actually really liked the Yiga base. It was frustrating to get sent back to the start every time, but in general I like playing Link as a stealthy ninja, so I wouldn't mind more missions like it, or even a whole game using BotW as a base. Plus it's worth it to see those huge guards doing their little walk when they see a banana.
@@KennyHazy97 the stealth outfit is my most used, mainly because I run faster at night AND it was the best for avoiding enemies before getting Majora's Mask.
Zenene Zene The song plays once you are speeding on the horse, my guess is he did pretty much what I did and walked slowly on the horse and constantly stopping due to all the collectibles around, took me a while to hear the music too XD
To be fair though, that spastic scattering of notes sounds less like a song and more like a stream of pure auditory garbage. I hardly ever rode horses because I hated listening to it.
Zelda and link's relationship is actually confirmed as romantic in game if you read both of their diaries, hear kass's song, and know what the white flowers at the end (only shown if you get all the memories, presumedly because link needs those memories to be romantically interested in zelda) represent.
Yeah it's definetly there I think he meant that it's not the primary focus of there relationship in the cutscenes. (Yes I know I'm responding to a year old comment sorry)
Personally I think Jirard is right, Link and Zelda definitely have feelings for each other we know that from Mipha's diary and Kass' song, but their relationship itself never goes beyond friendship. Not just because she's a princess and he's a knight, but also because there's more important shit going on. 😋 Maybe in Tears of the Kingdom though. 👍
19:06 Am I the only one that rides horses in this game? I have 101 shrines completed and I rarely fast travel, I just love the scenery and the feeling of an open world where I can go and ride nearly everywhere. I often ride all across the map just to be on a horse.
Yeah, it really does lend itself really well to immersion, doesn't it? I especially find riding the giant horse loads of fun, and it even provides you with plenty of roadkill to snack on, not to mention how fast it runs!
I made my own rain climb strategy. have climbing gear and let link climb and watch his hand movement, after 4 times he moved his hand you perform a jump, then you repeat. I find this the best way to climb during the rain
What I’ve always found bizarre is how they didn’t make the final upgrade to the climbing gear be rain resistance. That would’ve given so much incentive to upgrade while also negating most people’s number one complaint
From a non completionist perspective this game is absolutely fantastic. This game gave me that sense of wonder I haven't had since I was kid. I put over 100 hours into this game which makes this game the first non Pokemon game I've done that with. This is probably my favorite Zelda game. Quite possibly my favorite game of all time idk yet on that one
Yea that's why I always make sure I have plenty of wood and flint. I rarely if ever fought at night. I pretty much played the whole game in daytime and ran away from most fights.
The thing about not getting good reward when you complete the slate is trying to teach you that it’s about the journey and not the reward it wants you to enjoy going to all these places but since you try to complete everything in a single time your not enjoying what your doing so I encourage everyone to complete but at your own pace
3 years later and I stills haven't beat the first divine beast. Yes. I've been at the stables or at Rito Village. Best places in the game in my opinion.
The blights aren't corrupted champions. All four of them are phantom constructs created by Calamity Ganon to corrupt the divine beasts and kill their champions.
No no no, the breath of the Wild Tunic isn't based on the tunic from the first Zelda. It's a brand new tunic. The original legend of Zelda tunic can be found from 8-bit link amiibo.
Except it looks damn near similar to that tunic, and in game it even says it is a reward for monks to finish all the shrines to emulate the hero..... It is fairly similar in color and only has 1-2 key differences past that. Looking at tunic of the wild you can clearly see it was inspired by the first game, and for non-amiibo players it might as well be from the first game.
It's kinda weird that NES Link amiibo gives a more SNES looking tunic than NES... But it makes sense if the amiibos were after thoughts during development of the game.
that's like saying the SS tunic wasn't based on the TP tunic it's just the classic tunic. all they did was make it look different. that's not a bad thing. it's just the truth. (though personally; it's kind of an underhwelming reward and design.)
Lmao 2 years later and after putting 200 hours into this game and this is the first I’m hearing about a horse god. Really thought I’d seen it all in this game.❤️
“Jirard: is clearly told that he can’t complete the game so don’t even try by developers ” How is “ah yes please take on the challange.” The devs telling Jirard to not even try? The devs deliberately invite him to try and complete the game. Yes I know this is a joke but part of said joke doesn’t work when the devs openly invite him to try and 100% the game.
DBfan That was very clearly a dare. It was even emphasized in a way that was supposed to sound discouraging. They were basically telling him not to in the nicest way possible.
DBfan Forgive me for this late reply, as it might be redundant at this juncture but I’m guessing you’ve not engaged in conversation much in East Asian context. That style is actually the opposite of inviting him. You have to read between the lines and understand that the Japanese try to avoid being direct in such situations, so as to avoid causing someone to “lose face” by explicitly discouraging them. They already said “muri” which means impossible, in a very strong manner(there are other words to use, but they specifically chose that one), and were just being polite to his response to that: as it’s easier to give up than succeed through such frustration, especially if they expected him to do it on his own without a guide. Japanese traditionally doesn’t really have sarcasm, but this is the closest equivalent you’ll get to sarcasm. It’s difficult for other cultures to understand at times, but that’s how it is. Many westerners take such remarks at face value and often get the opposite message.
Honestly I think the reason there are so many korok seeds is so you can get all the seeds you need to max out the inventory even if you miss a lot of them
The challenge is the reward, you should only every do what you want. I understand that you're in a special place with these challenges that you give yourself, but once you start to force yourself to play a game it loses itself and is then a chore. For me, I'll see the Wild clothing set as being the endpoint
I finally got to play this game last month and i'm still going. By now, I'm about 90 hours in, with most of the main mission completed and about 80 shrines. I'm starting to feel the anguish of knowing sooner or later (maybe in other 100 hours ), i'm going to finish the game. I really don't want it to end! Edit: I was anxious for nothing. Almost a year after commenting I'm 330 hours in, focused on collecting korok seeds (already caught 439) and still having a blast exploring every corner of the map.
right now I've sunk in 255 hours (probably more since I last checked), and I am still not finished, and I'm not even going for 100%! you'll be just fine
You can farm them easily Shee Vaneer shrine. Wood. Fire blade. Make fire. Sit until night. Look East. Fast travel to nearest shrine/tower. Pick up fragment. Repeat.
No the music is perfect. There is almost always music playing throughout the game it just isn’t blasting in your face all the time. I love the gentle and ambient feel the music crates when riding your hours or exploring. This game doesent need crazy heroic music because this game isn’t about that. It’s about exploration and the soundtrack portrays that perfectly. I’ve grown to love every single track in this game they bring me such a strong sense of nostalgia and calmness
You know, I never really got the appeal of any kind of reward unlocked by 100% completion, especially when there's no new game+. Unless it's like an ending or something. A really atrocious example of this is the GCN/PS2/Xbox game, Ultimate Spider-man. In the game the reward for completing it 100% is the black Spidey suit, cool right? Well, maybe it would be, if it wasn't for the fact you're now in an empty city with nothing to do besides random fights and race replays. What's the point of a cool reward if you don't get to do anything with it?
Emerald Interesting to hear of that one, and something for me to remember when I finally get around to playing it. As someone earlier mentioned, it's much older than the blue coins of Mario Sunshine, but I think it is exacerbated by the use of 3D worlds in modern gaming. Take a 2D game like Final Fantasy VI; I relished for years playing it via learning all spells. Even though some are quite useless (Carbuncle) and others are limited but take way too long to learn (Drain), it never felt like a chore. Maybe it is because the world is more digestible in 2D, making it easier for the player to become invested. Or perhaps it is just a great unexplained mystery, much like the rest of life...
Oliver Surpless I'm not really a completionist is the thing, I can respect being one for the sake of it, even admire it, and it's cool when you're rewarded for it, but if they're going to dangle a carrot on the stick that carrot better be delicious. the worst thing about the black suit reward I mentioned is that it's something I would want, I want to play the game in a black suit that would be cool, but the game gives you the black suit and then that's it, games over, you've already done everything. I don't see the point.
Emerald It does seem like a no-brainer to at least have the option in all gaming; not necessarily a permanent option that requires deleting the save data/file to get rid of it, but one that can be toggled on and off. I think it may also come from the mentality of the game creator/director, as game directors are just as distinct and diverse as filmmakers, if not more so. Take Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. The dynamic and unparalleled combat just screams for the ability to carry all the weapons you find throughout the game to a NG+, but you can't do that because the director (Tomonobu Itagaki) wanted the player to "be continually challenged". That's pretty asinine, and should be up to the player to define the gaming experience for themselves. Which is probably why the second game on 360 having such an option makes it much better for replayability, despite being a downgraded sequel overall.
This is absolutely false. This game lacks enemy variety & is mainly boring and empty. The Witcher is way better and more of A challenge for completionists. BoTW is easily complete-able. You just probably suck nubbbbb
Yeah, to an extent the whole idea of being a Comletionist within a week is a detriment to enjoying or even understanding the appeal of a game that's meant to be taken at your own pace. I adored this game for how I could just go on and on and on being distracted by every little thing running after tangents and anything that took my interest from squirrels to shrines in the distance to look puzzles to monster outposts, without feeling pressure to achieve the next step of the story quest. This is the epitome of an open world game but...yeah trying to get as much done as possible in a week is anathema to the way the game was designed to be enjoyed
@@Coldtea25 - i thought he was making a mistake too but he was talking about the first time you meet Hestu, which is, in fact, on the road that leads to Kakariko Village.
ONLY 280 hours? The whole review leading up to that point had me thinking a MINIMUM of 500 and I was fully expecting something closer to a 1000. Sounds like you completed this super quick Jirard, nicely done!
280 sounds about right. It took me about 210 to beat all the divine beasts, all the shrines, Gannon, and most of the side quests, I've just got the koroks and like 3 side quests left. Then.... DLC
I got the game for Christmas and I said “I want to 100% this game” so I beat the game and after I started trying to find the shrines and now I find this video and now I’m deciding Maybe I’m not gonna 100% this
This is how I was introduced to Legend of Zelda, so you can imagine my frustration when I discovered the previos game’s controls were nothing near this. I loved Twilight Princess and Wind Waker btw I think this game is my favorite, only because I can always pick it up and play it wherever and always have a different experience and always enjoy it
@Meme Man For Smash! I have not heard anyone complain about that. At all. Also it would be weird for it to suddenly change the style of the game, since many new Zelda fans started with Botw
Dragon Ball Xenoverse is the most nightmarish game for a completionist. Anyone who's played it will know exactly what I mean. Every single quest reward in the game is completely randomized, meaning you can replay the same quest for literal hours on end while completing every single fucking objective flawlessly and get either the same goddamn thing you've already gotten 20+ times or absolutely nothing at all. I've been grinding away at it for three fucking years now and I'm not even remotely close. It may not even be humanly possible, but I refuse to let it break me.
After been playing the game for a long time, I still constantly looking for the game review just to seek new perspectives and how the game impacts on people. The game is the best example of “stop and smell the roses”.
Completionists: You're fucked. You're throwing away your life for a literal piece of shit. Literally everyone else: YOU'RE GONNA FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME THERE IS NO EQUIVALENT
Naqu When he said that He was talking about compleating the game 100%, not the game itself. (900 Korok seeds, remember? This game sounds like a Compleationist nightmare)
Am I the only one who LOVES the rain mechanic? Let me explain. When I play the game I play the game as if I am Link. I go, where I would go, if I was Link. This is a game about exploring the wilds of Hyrule. If you're in the mountains hiking you probably won't do a lot of rock climbing in the rain. I think I'm sounding judgmental, but I don't mean to be-I just think this is interesting. I think people who hate the rain mechanic were pushing Link to go where THEY wanted to go, not were Link would choose to go. I partly blamed the shrine seeker. I turned it off because I didn't want it pulling me to go places-I wanted to explore based on sight and desire-really discover Hyrule like I did when I was five with the original. Another point I'll make is this: There isn't much story in this game; in past Zelda's you went where you could go based on the story. In this Zelda you go where you want and find story whenever. I think in BOTW the game is the story. My play-through was written by the directions I chose based on what I wanted to do and what the weather allowed me to do. And was directions I chose was based on what story I learned in the game; Link was already defeated once. He has one chance to save Hyrule now. If you had once chance to save the kingdom would you risk climbing in the rain? Okay, that sounds really judgmental but I'm just hamming it up to prove a point :) But in real life if you are hiking in the mountains you probably wouldn't chose a rainstorm as a time to rock climb. And as far as I know there isn't much equipment that helps with rock climbing in the rain. So it's more realistic considering the cold and heat mechanic. Jirard, if you see this, do me a favor. If you haven't done your play-through on hard mode yet do it like this. It will make the experience much more fun. It makes revisiting areas a blast because the weather might be different. And if you really gotta climb somewhere you wait the rain out or build a fire, just like Link would. I promise you'll have fun. I'm well over three-hundred hours into my first play-through, I have a 119 shrines found, and I'm restarting on hard mode to play-through again to first complete it on hard mode instead. Maybe nobody is reading comments on here any more and I should just go ply Zelda.
Actually, the flowers symbolize Zelda’s freedom. I’m respectfully correcting you, not wanting to be an internet butthole. But there’s a part of me that *INTENSELY RELATES*
I was thinking it weird too that Link does not speak, especially in the memories while everyone else does. Although Zelda's diary actually says that Link is not speaking and it really annoys her. That is until apparently she learns that the reason he does not speak much is that apparently he is feeling crushed by expectations and is not speaking in order to try and stay strong, that he is doing his duty.
Miyamoto has been asked why Link has no voice several times and I honestly like his unwavering answer: Link is not a player-character, but an avatar. Even his name was originally just meant to signify that player-to-character "link" (which was later adapted as a pun to the multi-world and multi-time plots of various games). He is meant to take on the qualities of the one controlling him as a direct proxy protagonist. As such, it's a much stronger imprint to be able to mentally replace YOUR voice with his when he's "silent". While I agree that it was much stronger in earlier Zelda games and the more they add full personality NPCs, it starts to seem odd how mute Link is, I still mostly agree with the design choice of him being given no audible dialogue.
There's a contradiction though because almost all of the 3d zelda games lInk does have a personality and the npcs do hear him talking to them. I'm pretty sure there stance on Link being an avatar is going to change very soon and eventually he will get a voice. Hell in BOTW he's already an established character with history and friendships.
One of Zelda's diaries is in her study which is about her findings, it is in a tower you can see on the castle and houses one of the memories. But across from that and with a bit of climbing you can find her room which and the diary in there has her recounting what she was thinking in all of the memories. That she was frustrated by her lack ability while to her Link seemed to have no trouble taking on his role, which frustrated her further to be angry at him, but she also that she felt guilty over that. You can also find the King's diary in the library for his side of things and that he felt guilty over how he had to treat his daughter. And as you play Paya's diary also has new entries about Link.
Even though it's been a couple of years, and even though I know it was probably a massive pain in every cell of his being, it always makes me laugh so hard when he says, "Nothing. Nothing! NOTHING!"
Yes there is the piano riff but if you go for long enough a very slowed down version of zeldas lullaby starts to play on violin at about the 43 second mark of the song.
You can get star fragments from silver lynels, it helps, a lot. Also you can buy all of the compendium photos, from the guy in the back of the hateno ancient tech lab. And and, if you zoom in on the map, some names will not show up, even if you know they exist, so thats a useful tip on filling up your map.

While I ended up loving Breath of the Wild immensely, I absolutely agree that the rain mechanic was super frustrating. It was easily the worst part of the game, imo. I’m really hoping Nintendo addresses this in BotW 2.

I decided to leave it with Link standing on the cliff, just outside of the shrine of resurrection, looking out over Hyrule, wearing his champion's tunic, hylian trousers, and only the master sword strapped to his back, just like in his memories.

re: the music
I tend to disagree, I think the music use was damn near perfect.
I agree, such a cool and atmospheric sound track. It’s very dynamic and has helped me in my lowest times

Zia Wang you haven’t played the game if you think it will get boring it doesn’t get boring
Yeah but the shrines were supposed be beaten
Thing is, Nintendo is literally shitting on people who find completion fun. They put 900 of a collectible in the game, OBVIOUSLY people are going to accept the challenge of getting all of them. And what do they give those people when they finally do it? Essentially a middle finger.
@Gavin Wilson if you take it as a middle finger then it is a middle finger.
Bit late but that basically shows that developers will waste forever writing lines of code to create areas where these korok seeds would be all over the map. For it to be for nothing.

Jamie Chesnut If you need a game to pour 100 hours into, try Xenoblade.
+Larissa Glines Those time exclusive quests can go fuck themselves off. Otherwise it's a nice game.
Jinsei Cast Those are annoying. Had to use a wiki.
I like how I will have to play 200 hours of dis to do 100%
Teddy Da Beast _Xx It took me 100+ hours to finish the story, do 120 shrines, 66 sidequests, Trial of the Sword, and 45 korok seeds
This one time I killed a golden lynel and right after i killed it the blood moon happened
Alex stuff bahahahahahhahana LMAO
Why does this happen to people
Yea that's why I always make sure I have plenty of wood and flint. I rarely if ever fought at night. I pretty much played the whole game in daytime and ran away from most fights.
ABUHGHAHHAHAHGHYAUAHAHAHA
You poor, poor soul. I pray for you.
The thing about not getting good reward when you complete the slate is trying to teach you that it’s about the journey and not the reward it wants you to enjoy going to all these places but since you try to complete everything in a single time your not enjoying what your doing so I encourage everyone to complete but at your own pace
You can both enjoy something and be rewarded for it.
3 years later and I stills haven't beat the first divine beast. Yes. I've been at the stables or at Rito Village. Best places in the game in my opinion.
@@annagrace2604 how? you have had the game for 3 years and you have not done a divine beast? how?
@@aryan-gi1hw 1. Haven't played in a while.

If you believe the fan theories, they are actually mindless scraps of guardians held together by a disease.
Adam Jones yeah its from the CD-I games obviously
The design is based on that.
that's like saying the SS tunic wasn't based on the TP tunic
it's just the classic tunic. all they did was make it look different. that's not a bad thing. it's just the truth. (though personally; it's kind of an underhwelming reward and design.)
I'm honestly glad they didn't give him a voice. They explained why he doesn't speak in Zelda's journal which was a really good touch
Lmao 2 years later and after putting 200 hours into this game and this is the first I’m hearing about a horse god. Really thought I’d seen it all in this game.❤️
If you find Zelda's diary in Hyrule Castle, you discover that Link really doesn't speak and it pisses her the fuck off. XD Its hilarious.
I dont think hes right about the voices. I thought it was perfect and even more so that Link was still the silent protagonist. I love it that way.
If you keep reading, you find out that she does eventually get him to talk.
Later entries state that she eventually gets him to open up to her though.
You can't stay a silent protagonist forever. Especially not with someone like Zelda constantly being with you XD
Thats not what pisses her off... And secondly, Link DOES talk to her later in the diary...

“Jirard: is clearly told that he can’t complete the game so don’t even try by developers ”
How is “ah yes please take on the challange.” The devs telling Jirard to not even try?
The devs deliberately invite him to try and complete the game.
Yes I know this is a joke but part of said joke doesn’t work when the devs openly invite him to try and 100% the game.
DBfan That was very clearly a dare. It was even emphasized in a way that was supposed to sound discouraging. They were basically telling him not to in the nicest way possible.
Completing the games is boring and tedious. I never saw the appeal to it, i just like the shows format
DBfan Forgive me for this late reply, as it might be redundant at this juncture but
I’m guessing you’ve not engaged in conversation much in East Asian context. Many westerners take such remarks at face value and often get the opposite message.
so collecting all 900 korok seeds aint worth shit. its worth a golden shit
whooping muffin correct, good sir
whooping muffin Ya, the reward wasnt worth shit.
Yea.... I shat in a bucket of paint
UltimateGeek Agreed. Its a shitty reward alright
Also Beardman, how annoyed do you feel now with the Korok mask being a thing?
Edit:
I was anxious for nothing.

You don't need the medals to purchase the Dark Link set.
The only requirement is beating all 4 Divine Beasts
The only requirement is selling enough monster parts.
the only thing you need to do is complete all the dungeons
Then how did I get it before beating any of them?
You only need to defeat the main bosses and get a lot of monster parts.

Ninja Gaiden 2 a downgrade? How so?
Emerald sheer satisfaction, perhaps?
This isn’t a game meant for completionists, the whole point of the game is that there’re is always adventure

@RighteousMan well if you are skilled enough you can beat ganon in under an hour. But that's not the point of the game.
I feel like Jirard would’ve given this game a higher rating if he wasn’t “forced” to get all those Korok seeds or if the rain wasn’t an issue.
You haven't really completed Breath of the Wild until you cook every single possible meal and elixer

+The Animated Gamer (AnimeGamer) I'll do that later.
As a veteran zelda player I felt bad when i died multiple times at the beginning.

Thomas Rodriguez
He probably could've, but it was better for him to take his time and actually enjoy the game.
+Thomas Rodriguez He was playing Yooka-Laylee, which I think we can all agree, was much worse
Draygone Fuzzbottom lol
DuskyPredator see, I never found that diary entry, but even then, I could get that idea from the memories
Its confirmed in the diary that Link can speak, just only to Zelda in their private time.
Even though it's been a couple of years, and even though I know it was probably a massive pain in every cell of his being, it always makes me laugh so hard when he says, "Nothing. Nothing! NOTHING!"
