  • We found a sport bike engine swapped mini sprinter kart online and couldn’t resist! We brought it home along with a 1000cc snowmobile for future projects. The kart run ok but had a broken drive train. In this video we fabricated and machined custom drivetrain components and send the beat off of our table top! Thanks for watching! #engineswap #grindhardplumbingco #suzuki

    To keep the output shaft from warping again you might consider a another bearing at the end of it, on the outside of the drive chain, to take the loading off it.
    As always, an awesome job!!

      gerekappo abrasive grinding on a lathe quickly damages the lathe ways and cross slide gibs. The accuracy goes out the window throughout the range. I guess if they want to replace the entire lathe after a year of use because they wont drape an old towel over the ways, it’s their money. It’s just stupid to be so wasteful.

    Oh the joys of GP shift :) As a motorcycle racer myself, Reverse shift or GP shift is a must-have. For situations like yours, it is generally a matter of necessity or function rather than choice. When you are balls deep in a turn on a motorcycle and you HAVE to grab another gear, being able to press down ( as opposed to reaching under the lever to pull up ) is paramount. This is especially true if you are making a left turn with hard parts starting to drag on the ground already. getting your foot under the shifter isn't fun when you are that close to the deck.

    that thing is sick! it totally rips it up out there. but i thought of a few mods you might want to do:
    1. cut the wing in half, and mount the halves on a little lower, and also center the panels on the sides. it'll look cooler, be easier to transport and turn the same both directions at speed. the wing is meant for driving around in circles on a track, but by making it symmetrical you could balance the drag out more.
    2. give it more offroad-y suspension. i know it already has good suspension but its got poor travel and is really stiff. longer travel and softer suspension would make it more comfy, and less likely to break if you jump it high / hit a big bump.

    Looks like the tension on the chain reverses when you motorbrake. then the other side of the chain will loosen and flips off. you need a tensioner at both sids

    • @fredericrike5974
      @fredericrike5974 4 роки тому

      Probably something that looks like a "chain slide" on the top side; it will need to will add tension to the top side when you motor brake- that is changing the tension side of the chain run- the slack is then on the wrong side.

    Hey guys. Love your channel and everything you've done, right up to this point. PLEASE don't jump that race car again! It was not designed to do that and you will turn it into a pile of cracked/bent tubing if you keep treating it like a cross kart, which it most definitely is not! Breaking off that shock tower should be proof enough, rusted or not. That adjustment, (up and down) is not for ground clearance. It is to loosen or stiffen up the chassis for different track conditions. I had a CBR 600 powered "sidewinder" mini sprint back in the 90's but always wanted a front mounted engine chassis. That is a really cool car you've found there. I'm in PHX, AZ and these cars were pretty popular back then and I'm pretty sure they still run them here. Let me know if you get bored and would like to sell it. I'll drive up to get it. I've never been to Idaho and would love an excuse to visit. It looks like an awesome place to live with some pretty awesome people! Or, it would be really cool to see Mark get it back, if he wanted it. I wish I had my first race car that my dad bought me. A Curtis quarter midget back in the early 60's. Almost too much fun for a little kid and memories I hope I never lose. Lost my pop back in 2001 to a brain aneurysm.

    I raced micros for a bunch of years. That thing is built more like a mini sprint which are 1000cc cars. Motor mounted between the frame rails where most micros are offset and the chain goes straight to the axle. Also has a midget steering gear in it, 250 and 600's usually are go kart type steering or really small rack & pinion. Probably a pretty badass car at one time.

    Your chain is coming off because when you leave off the gas it's engine breaking witch puts hard pressure on the side of the chain where the tensioner is.. as a result it pulls that side tight and the top witch is the drive side becomes really loose and allows the chain to jump off the top side of the sprocket.. you would need a double tensioner for top and bottom to keep the chain from coming off the way the design is now.. or maybe a chain with a lot less play, almost tight might help.. good luck.. Randy

  • @lucavinante22
    @lucavinante22 4 роки тому

    For the chain falling issue you can try making four big washers, one for each side of the sprocket like a sprocket guard for both the engine-output sprocket and the tensioner sprocket because it seems that the chain comes off on the front first. If you google sprocket guard images you will understand better what I mean, it's used on quads. Great build!

    So I used to race micros before getting a full sized sprint car last year, and the weird rotating panhard bar that you are seeing is called a Jacobs Ladder and helps to keep the axle centered better than a panhard. It is normally found on most dirt cars but is not used on pavement. It is a car designed to go left and drift. Pretty typical older car but the setup is basically the same still. I would assume that it is a coil over car and not a torsion bar car which is perfect for what you guys are doing. Love the builds.

    • @jordanwelch5314

      One other thing I forgot to mention, we typically run the cars in 2nd or 3rd and gear them specifically depending on the size of the track.

    Just need a chain guide and a tensioner with the guide closer to the rear sprocket. The ones they run around here have the engine offset to the left side so you dont need the adaptor. They are raced on an oval so it is good to have the engine to the inside but it would still work on rally type car. lol I dont see how you get your legs in it. I raced one back in the 80's but we ran a 250 suzuki single on alcohol against 250 twin yamahas. The single would come out of the corners better than the twins but the twins had more top end so it was hard to stay with them but if you got out front you could bog them down going in and out pull them coming out. Im pretty sure they were YZ yamahas converted to TZ racing engines and the Suzuki was an RD moto cross. Nowadays they are running up to 1000 cc engines in them but the frame is larger to make up for the weight and speed. Oh yea my engine was in the rear which was what was ran before they started running side winders is what I called them. You can buy all the parts for them from a few different places now. Its good to see you in a cage so you have a chance of living if you wipe it out.

    This is the one I'm talking about this is made to turn right to go left it's made for dirt oval and should have some banking on the turns it works the best when you do that if you take the wing off you can get more sideways when sliding through the turn it looks so cool and if you flip let go of the wheel and cross your arms around your chest to minimize damage to your arms and wrists and put hoosier tires on it and if you want the wing on make sure to buy a nose wing to add onto it so it will look like how it's supposed to the wings add more down force so you cant drive in the corner as sideways as you would without the wings and most importantly treat her with respect because if you don't she won't treat you as nicely because she is not meant for doing jumps
    And also the right rear tire is supposed to be bigger than the left rear the front tires should be the same size
    And through the corners you don't want to be straight you want to be a little bit sideways with the wing and almost all the way sideways without the wings
    If you need to know anything about the Sprint car ask me

    You guys REALLY do make my day :) I build stuff too with my coworkers. We love and watch all of your videos. My buddy Shane wants all of the machining tools you have. Thats what makes your channel unique! You make SO many things from scratch and have so much talent. Cheers from Ontario.

    sure someone else said it... that jack shaft needs another bearing on the outside of the sprocket to stop deflection. and a couple of chain guides.... maybe a roller behind/top of drive procket.... and guide on below/front of rear sprocket.

    I think it would be wild to bring in some yxz 1000 parts on the buggy. A one seater like that with the stance of a the yxz would be wild.
