With the dibanding of the Consensus after the events of Savathun’s Eternal Night, and House Light settling in the City, I’m left wondering, what will replace it? Perhaps, after Final Shape, as we being to build our own, second Golden Age of, peace across most of Sol, the Coalition: our allied factions, their leaders and ambassadors/negotiators, may ally officially with humanity and the City of Earth, perhaps cementing a type of council to replace the Consensus. Maybe certain people like Suraya can lead the civilian government of the City. Perhaps Eido handles Elksni and human relations? Maybe Saladin educates and trains Guardians and Cabal so they can learn more about each other, and correlate better as fireteams? Maybe Osiris founds and unifies a research team of the Coalition’s various scholars? From the scientists of the neon-soaked Neomuna, to the ancient Techeans of the guarded Reef.
Surely there has to be a core governing administration outside of the Consensus and the Vanguard? The last of the Factions left the City after the events of the Season of the Splicer, and I can't imagine the place being somewhat lawless or the Vanguard handling all City affairs.
@@BarstucksCoffee As far as we can tell at this point in time the Last City is functionally a Military Dictatorship led by Commander Zavala, Though it's arguable that it had already been that for some time prior to the failed FWC Coup.
@@S3Cs4uN8 Yeah, pretty much. Though, Neomuna still remembers their roots, as they founded on Neptune right after the Collapse started, and landed on Neptune during it. They’re government is more organized. If anything, they may be able to supervise and help the Vanguard and City influencers, figures like Suraya and Ada, create a better government in place of the Consesus when the war with the Witness is over. Neomuna could help set up a proper government in which there are civilian branches, but there are also allied leaders of the Coalition, and their ambassadors, included, as well as the Vanguard. Think about it. Maybe the old Tower is rebuilt as a meeting place where Coalition leaders can meet and exchange information. Mara and her Wrath, Petra, Caital, and her trusted generals, Valus Forge, Kell Mitraks and his daughter, Eido, and Nimbus, with Osiris playing the role as mediator/ambassador. While Ikora, Zavala, and perhaps Hunter Vanguard Crow, sit on the Coalition’s council. Suraya, Saint, Spider, Ada, and Devrim, could make up the civilian branch, while military operations could be delegated to the Coalition allies and their respective leaders. Either way, there should be enough peace for the City of Earth to restructure its government into something better than before, and maybe change its name. We aren’t the last city anymore after all.
Listen to lore about the speaker during the city age if it's the same speaker we knew I get this feeling that he was a bit corrupt or something he didn't seem like he didn't liked people challenging him or questioning him. Just think if he didn't die, would he have even considered let's having these alliances with those that used to be our enemies and using darkness
This video was so beautiful in so many ways. The love between so two guardians is deeply wholesome which makes me want to revenge their death even more. Just amazingly told lore. Love your videos and will always follow you Byf.
I like the idea of those early guardians who knew basically nothing about the hive going into battle against them. They'd been fighting Fallen, going from that to the supernatural horror of the Hive must have been nuts. EDIT: It also never fails to impress me how devastating the Hive's conquests are, because they don't tend to use superweapons. Crota killed hundreds of Guardians alone during that battle, and he did so one by one, with a sword. This shows up all over Hive lore. During an early conquest two knights stood on a bridge for like 15 straight years and just killed the enemy one by one until they ran out of forces to hold it. Can you imagine being held in reserve at that bridge. Knowing that your side has been fighting these two individuals... with swords, for a decade, and one day your number will be called and you'll have to fight them. They commit total genocide of their opponents but they kill them intimately. Its awe inspiring and horrible. It's one of those things we as players never get to see because we never lose.
One only shoots when something is not in, not able to be in or on the way to be in punching distance. In all circumstances, one will attempt to get into punching distance; Even when we have found that the target is near impossible to be in punching distance, we continue to try. After all, how do you think Thunder Crash was developed? It's basically the embodiment of the sheer will of a Titan wanting to punch something that's usually well out of punching distance. Honestly, us Arc Titans are the most Titanish Titans with how much our powers revolve around literally punching things in a variety of ways. Now with access to Thruster, we are even less focused on defence and use it to reposition to get even more out our punches. Be it scooping up orbs of power and/or repositioning to hit a higher number of things with our charged punch. Barricades are for the less punchy Titan subclasses that incinerate or blow things up. Heck, if I wanted to hit things with other things I could use a sword. Until the day I can literally rip off an enemies arm and hit them with their own fist, my own will be more than enough.
forget creating Eris, IIRC the Great Disaster and Crota + his Disciples are the reason guardians are now organized as we are, with fireteams of 3-6 going out on strikes and raids, specifically as surgical strikes to take out high value targets before they get a chance to gather enough power/forces for the disaster of a few thousand guardians getting struck down on the field of open battle to happen again, as well as so that in the event of a team failing, only that team is lost, rather than the whole army.
That is likely part of the reason, given how massive and indiscriminate some of the Guardian paracausal powers can be. It may be difficult for any individual Guardian to set parameters with their paracausal powers to not affect more than a handful of individuals at any given time. This may have been a contributing factor given the sheer size of the battle itself, thousands of guardians took to Luna's surface at the same time. Surely there would have been more than a few friendly fire incidents given the confusion of battle and rapid changes to the terrain that occurred. Guardians are most vulnerable when being resurrected or restored by their Ghosts after all. They alone are the sole source of immortality, and they are vulnerable to weapons of sorrow and hive magic. They instinctively phase into reality to resurrect us, even if it takes more time for them to build the charge to do so like in darkness zones. Luna would have been one massive darkness zone at the time with Crota slicing up the moons surface. Any collateral damage caused by other guardians to down other guardians would have caused ghosts to pop out at awful times only to be destroyed while building a light charge. The worst part is it would be almost impossible to know how many guardians died their final death due to this if it were the case. Would easily be more than 10% of all deaths I would estimate, perhaps somewhere near 15-20% in total from generalised guardian shenanigans and the potential friendly fire theory. Guardians were humbled pretty hard by the great disaster, without such reminders; Guardians would develop even bigger god complexes than they already have.
It also pays to keep in mind that the Great Disaster caused the Vanguard to lose most all of its authority over the remaining Guardians and what had once been a proper military force was now more akin to the three Vanguard Leaders having to herd cats instead.
I'd have to check, but wasn't it the other way around? the Consensus, being the ones who pushed for an army to take Luna, lost almost all authority over the various guardians, and the vanguard was restructured into the more segregated orders we have now among the warlocks and titans, with hunters being the only ones who really play up the "Herding cats" angle. I know it also lead to the vanguard being almost entirely replaced, but I'm pretty sure they didn't lose any power, on the military front at least.
@@thedarkgenious7967 Oh no the Vanguard lost a lot of authority alongside as the Consensus because, as each of the Vanguard Leaders were sitting members of the Consensus Council, they signed off on the Lunar Assault too. It got so bad that it, alongside the Death of Cayde-6, had Ikora openly questioning if the Vanguard should be disbanded. I imagine the only reason that never happened is due to the revolving door of crisis the City has had to face starting with Season of Arrivals.
Led to a permanent change in how we deploy Guardians that holds true to this day. Crota killed some many of us that its now Vanguard policy to only field small teams of Guardians. The Hive showed us that Guardians can find themselves in a situation where they cannot survive. The Hive are very good at this, and can lure Guardians in an inescapable death trap relatively easily. We use three person fireteams because Crota made us realise that it is always possible for the hive to wipe out an entire deployment of Guardians. Three person fireteams means the most Guardians we can lose to one trap is three.
Why do I feel Saint and Wei would love to fight together if given the chance? One moved a literal mountain and another head butted a Kell so hard his Helm was permanently dented.
Since Saint was the first Titan Vanguard, they probably *did* fight together. Not too fluent with the Destiny timeline, so I don't know how The Great Disaster and his death in the Infinite Forest align.
@@BarstucksCoffeeThat match up might probably be the reason the Vanguard are not permitted to fight in the Crucible. Lord Shaxx would lose his temper quickly if his arena's were obliterated beyond repair.
Seems to me that the Hive God of Vengeance will eventually want vengeance for those who killed the ones she loved...and that ones the sisters are dead the Vanguard would be next. (if she is killed, forced into a throne world and stays as a Hive God)--She will always need to be seeking Vengeance as a Hive God.
I swear, if Bungie could strike a deal with Warner Brothers, we could easily see a Destiny animated show. I say animated because with something new like that, we would want to learn from 343's mistake with a live action Halo series (seriously, so unjustified...) and avoid ruining the lore from our beloved Destiny Universe. Js
Ok, so if Titan marks are "badges of honor" or whatever, and Hunter cloaks look cool, what purpose does my arm bandage serve? I feel like if Titan marks have meaning and look cool, and Hunter cloaks look badass, Warlock bonds should, too. And if Titan marks are important, why aren't there exotic ones, like "Mark of Wei Ning" or something? And on that vein, how about a "Cloak of Cayde-6" or "Bond of Toland(?)"? Or maybe thay don't have to be dead. "Mark of Saint-14" or "Bond of Osiris." Wouldn't that be neat?
All of these lore stories are proof of just how powerful our guardians are. Our player guardians are able to do things that armies of thousands failed to do. Sure, we have plot armor and checkpoints and respawns, but if you look at it from the lore of our combined accomplishments, we are some of, if not the most powerful guardians ever. We have killed gods, nightmares, and disciples that had previously broken countless worlds. Kind of insane when you think about it
We never achieve it without help or vital information previous attempts have not had the luxury of having. Without it, we are individually powerful yes. However, we are also reckless and stubborn. Without the help and knowledge from others around us, we wouldn't be around any more. Our presence in this timeline is a testament to that, when compared to the numerous other timeline's Elsie has seen. It was only when Elsie had learned to relinquish control and trust in others, rather that trying to micromanage everything herself, that we live long enough to become a person of interest. We are an anomaly among anomalous entities, Elise took a chance on us and guided us down a path to earn her trust and faith that we can help her avoid the dark future. We are indeed a key player in reshaping Destiny itself, but would be a forgotten no body without the other key characters around us. It's as simple as that; We have the potential, power and tenacity to achieve the impossible. But only when working with the right people at the right time. Other Guardians consider what we do to be the impossible, because they have seen other similarly stubbornly reckless & powerful Guardians try and fail numerous times before us. Where we differ from them is the knowledge and assistance of the people around us. It's no down play to say that we wouldn't exist without that, it just an acknowledgement that the pure power we have isn't the sole reason we achieve the impossible. Nothing more, nothing less.
Don't worry, it's the smartest Warlocks that know how Titans think. Take Felwinter for instance, that warlock knew how to throw hands like a titan and how to catch them...with his head.
When was the city consensus disbanded? Can't remember all the lore (my head isn't big enough) so unsure if it's already been said previously. Surely after a mistake as large as this there was pushback against them?
I'd not put much thought to it but I suppose the piles of human remains in and around the Keep and the Hellmouth are the Guardians from the Great Disaster?
I wonder how many guardians died and what that was compared to all guardians defending the city. It sounds the like great disaster really put a hampering on the city's defense
The losses from the Great Disaster are well over a thousand at the very least and included many of the most veteran Guardians of the time, it's a major reason as to why Post-Disaster there was a considerable shift in Guardian culture toward self-aggrandizement and greed. Said shift has also led to a considerable amount of alienation between the people of the Last City and their protectors as they, sometimes openly, wonder if the Guardians even care if they all survive.
Really wish this lore was expanded upon in the main story of shadow keep. Give the story more weight if the nightmare of the great disaster had more story presence considering its importance
Jesus Christ. You actually did it. Without watching, is half of this one ALSO about how he let the vex into the throne world? Boss has like three lore entires. You are truly Hobbit-ing this single small topic.
Its amazing how powerful and horrifying Crota is in the lore, slaying hundreds, thousands of Guardians, even legendary badasses.. and then.. we go and solo his lost sector 😂 not to say this isn't the how it goes with every single big bad in the Destiny universe.. but still, its always been something really amusing to think about.. Like Rhulk.. dude dived in to the deep, naked, took a leviathans rib with a snap of a finger and forced the worm gods to co-operate.. then we go and mop the floor with him when in reality we should not have had any hint of an chance in beating him..
Mm. And it gives the playerbase an insufferable god complex. Look at how people treat Shaw Han for losing to an Omnigul tier ascendant hive? Look at how people treat the lost fireteams of Savathuns Song. The players are so used to kill stealing after npcs have done the work, or being treated with kid gloves by the enemies for the sake of plot, that they start to think Guardians are supposed to be untouchable. They don't realise that every time you go down, theres a non zero chance you're never getting back up again.
Ya know at times i kinda wish one of these 2 Guardians survived instead of Eris I mean Eris is great an all but if was one of these 2 going against Croya and all these hive gods would feel so much more personal Because it wouldnt just be revenge It would be revenge for the one they loved against the monsters that took them

This is away from the story that is completely being told in this video, but I love how Bungie handles LGBTQ+ in the game. They leave it as something that is just there, rather than try to make as many characters LGBTQ+ as they can. They also don’t force it down your throats like other games I’ve played. You could play the game for years without knowing much lore, and you may not learn for a long time that Saint and Osiris are together, or that Ana Bray has a Girlfriend. It makes it a natural part of their character, rather than a part that feels it was put there for inclusion of everyone
Almost every character is gay in the game. Only ones that we know are Straight was Zavala and his wife. And now we’re finally getting a hints of a relationship with Eris and drifter. So yeah pretty 90:10
Oh they very much want to do that, they just can't and the Great Disaster pretty much put any real possibility for it happening to bed. The Vanguard after the Great Disaster is a shell of what it used to be as its efforts to command the Guardians can best be described as 'Herding cats' just in this case the cats are Clout-chasing loot goblins.

I think your right twilight gap and the great disaster were the last 2 large scale battles before The Gaurdian is resurrected for the first time granted after our resurrection we really don't take part in large scale battles more like skirmishes and then on to the next thing only large scale fights really we take part in are the beginning mission of shadowkeep and I assume the giant space battle above earth with the Traveler and Saint 14
You didn't mention the War of the Vault. Where armies of Guardians were lost to the Vex's time manipulation. Though I do not blame you. We only remember the last fireteam that braved the vault because one of them made it out. Had they not well... the Vanguard might've never ended their assault until they were exhausted.
I would love to see the "Great Disaster" and the first Fire team unleashed against Crota in Fan animation.
1:34 hey that’s me :)
Always love hearing more about Eriana
I’m so glad you finally read the burning lake card-one of my favorites
Wei is litterally the unguest of bungas, literally leads every conversation with something relating to punching.
Book smart falling in love with fist for brains, how many times have i seen that before.

Hard to believe zavala of all people cleared attacking the moon. Would have been interested to see how he reacted to that
Listen to lore about the speaker during the city age if it's the same speaker we knew I get this feeling that he was a bit corrupt or something he didn't seem like he didn't liked people challenging him or questioning him. Just think if he didn't die, would he have even considered let's having these alliances with those that used to be our enemies and using darkness
Saint and Wei Ning are the most titan titans that ever titaned! makes my little titan heart proud!
Titans and Warlocks in lore are so amazing while us hunters seem to be just picking our noses in the background lmao
This video was so beautiful in so many ways. The love between so two guardians is deeply wholesome which makes me want to revenge their death even more. Just amazingly told lore. Love your videos and will always follow you Byf.
the ultimate titan strategy, that goku would be proud of, "HIT THEM REALLY HARD!"
Wei Ning seems like a crayon connoisseur.
Me a hunter main trying to teach my warlock main friend how to titan: "Punch 1st shoot after". I think I got what it means to be a titan just right.
Are we every going to get a destiny anime or live action if so Byf has to narrate
My friend would try to solo speed run the lamps in crota leaving everyone else behind. He is the most titan warlock ever
forget creating Eris, IIRC the Great Disaster and Crota + his Disciples are the reason guardians are now organized as we are, with fireteams of 3-6 going out on strikes and raids, specifically as surgical strikes to take out high value targets before they get a chance to gather enough power/forces for the disaster of a few thousand guardians getting struck down on the field of open battle to happen again, as well as so that in the event of a team failing, only that team is lost, rather than the whole army.
As a Titan from before D1 even launched, who’s favorite weapon IS the Fighting Lion
Yes, I do love her. Undoubtedly, not as much as Eriana. But I do
Led to a permanent change in how we deploy Guardians that holds true to this day.
Wei and Saint would gotten along so well.
I need a Davy Jones theme based music animation on Eriana and Wei Ning ( like the RafScrap and Lacey version )
God I wish this love would be turned into a show/movie
Would be awesome
I literally just got that ship the other day from a Bright Engram.
I literally cried during the first 10 minutes
All of these lore stories are proof of just how powerful our guardians are. Our player guardians are able to do things that armies of thousands failed to do. Sure, we have plot armor and checkpoints and respawns, but if you look at it from the lore of our combined accomplishments, we are some of, if not the most powerful guardians ever. We have killed gods, nightmares, and disciples that had previously broken countless worlds. Kind of insane when you think about it
It’s actually really funny watching TikTok people down play how strong the player character is
We never achieve it without help or vital information previous attempts have not had the luxury of having.

It's crazy that Wei Ning is pronounced waning. And that it is also a phase of the moon...
When was the city consensus disbanded?

Surely after a mistake as large as this there was pushback against them?
I'd not put much thought to it but I suppose the piles of human remains in and around the Keep and the Hellmouth are the Guardians from the Great Disaster?
Correct
Thank you Byf
Literally anything.
Wei Ning: *WHACK*
As a titan main Wei Ning is my personal idol
I wonder how many guardians died and what that was compared to all guardians defending the city. It sounds the like great disaster really put a hampering on the city's defense
The losses from the Great Disaster are well over a thousand at the very least and included many of the most veteran Guardians of the time, it's a major reason as to why Post-Disaster there was a considerable shift in Guardian culture toward self-aggrandizement and greed. Said shift has also led to a considerable amount of alienation between the people of the Last City and their protectors as they, sometimes openly, wonder if the Guardians even care if they all survive.
4:53 The Saint 14 tactic

Oh how do I enjoy a Burning Love Story. Never knew Eriana was a Warlock.
Really wish this lore was expanded upon in the main story of shadow keep. Give the story more weight if the nightmare of the great disaster had more story presence considering its importance
Lore masters: y’all think we could retake the Moon in our current age?
“Hey what’s up dad? How was your day ? Oh I killed this weird titan on the moon today. Call me back love u 🥰”

Ya know at times i kinda wish one of these 2 Guardians survived instead of Eris
I mean Eris is great an all but if was one of these 2 going against Croya and all these hive gods would feel so much more personal

I disagree. To my knowledge, there's no straight folks in the game. Prove me wrong, and I'll gladly retract this.

Why has the Vanguard never wanted to retake the rest of earth , and make hundreds of new cities ?
Oh they very much want to do that, they just can't and the Great Disaster pretty much put any real possibility for it happening to bed. The Vanguard after the Great Disaster is a shell of what it used to be as its efforts to command the Guardians can best be described as 'Herding cats' just in this case the cats are Clout-chasing loot goblins.
Are there any straight couples in the lore? I can't remember
There are straight couples in literally every other game ever. Go play one of those lol
not outside of possible drifter and eric, what was Amanda crow, and thats it, it seems they are dead set on only LGBTQ representation, which to have it is fine just... the excessive amount is really off putting.
