While I had always understood the implications of the outcome of Twilight Gap as they pertained to the military situation (The military power of the Eliksni as a species in the Sol System was permanently crippled following Twilight Gap and their disasters in the Reef), I had never really considered the cultural implications of the outcome of this battle. Fascinating analysis of a different set of repercussions to the result of Twilight Gap.
I am glad that Destiny is getting more attention on channels such as this, and very nice touch on the co-op with Byf! I hope to make my own YT channel inspired around this too.
I was wondering when you guys would do some destiny lore and then...byf. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Byf, in the last few months ive watched a whole lot of his content, its just funny one of the first if not the first destiny video on this channel is done by someone else. For the record, the Titan Liu Feng, the forename 'Liu' is prounced "Loo", not lo-weh. And that's the game itself saying this, Shaxx recalls details of the battle during D2 Year 1's subclass quests, and his narration says it as "Loo Feng."
Arguably the politics of twilight gap are more foundational to Destiny than reach is to halo, mainly because most of the major players at twilight gap survived the battle. As opposed to reach where most of the big time players were killed or missing post battle. Heck elements of destiny's current narrative can be traced directly to the gap. Such as the continued tension between Saladin, Shaxx and Zavala or smaller background narratives such as Anna Bray rescuing what's left of Rasputin from Mars, something which would not have happened had she not used the chaos of Twilight gap to slip away and fake her death. As much as I love halo Reach is mainly just another Battle and planet humanity lost. With its only true future significance to the wider universe being the discovery of halos co-ordinates. The events of halo 1 are probably more akin to halos twilight gap. Given the loss of the ring and it's resulting ripple effects through the covenant hierarchy are far more infulential on the halo universe in its current state
@@seankellygaller6902 essentially because if Earth was Humanities home and political capital in halo then reach was it's military capital. There was an in universe belief that no matter how bad the war was going that as long as reach stood we would be ok. The fact that she fell so quickly was horrifying, but it also meant that there was nothing between the covenant and earth other than them simply not knowing where it was. The fight went from one we were loosing to one we had basically lost with reaches fall. Had it not been for the Autumn escaping the planet with the coordinates for halo on tow and the events that kicked into motion we would have lost.

My dudes, I don't doubt it. I git the third expansion when it came out and it seemed much improved. But while I was playing I realized that everyone else was loving the hell out of it and felt... nothing. I nothinged the game. No joy, no hope, no nothing. It was at that point, even with the improvements, that I was done. They fucked me once in Destiny 1, and then they won me back, but then they fucked me twice. I just felt nothing for that game, and and nothing but disappointment for that studio. But, my dear Guardians, I'm thrilled that you guys are loving the game. Kick some ass for me.
The Traveller never bothered before to give it's _uplifted races_ a heads up about the Darkness. "Hey … better get your system fortified ASAP, here's what's coming."
That's another part of the Traveler's lore, the bet made with the Darkness: basically, the Traveler bet that given power without concrete communication, a civilization would choose to uplift itself to great heights while retaining the ability to protect itself, a gentle city surrounded by a ring of spears. So the Traveler never communicates directly with the civilizations it uplifted. The power they manifested was still substantial, it just wasn't enough to stop the Darkness. It only ever once spoke directly to anyone; that person was Clovis Bray, and basically it was to say, "Dude, what the fuck."

Genuinely something I love about destiny is how it condenses what would be considered a universe worth of lore into....one single solar system. Sure things came from the wider galaxy, and for various reasons the solar system has been expanded (more habitable worlds because of the Traveler, the Reef) but it all takes place....right here.
Agreed, like one of the Bungie devs stated way back before even D1 launched, people just have a easier time engaging with a story that takes place in familiar locations. Tho I personally agree with the speculation that once the light vs darkness arc is over with the final shape expansion I imagine we'll start experiencing adventures outside of Sol.
The eliksni houses are some of the most interesting villains in Destiny. Not only do they have their own cultures and backstories, but they also serve as a dark mirror of humanity should the Tower fail to protect the City. I remember a quote from Star Trek about how it’s easy to be a saint in paradise, and likewise, humanity has developed a prosperous society under the Guardians, but the eliksni never had Guardians and were forced to go to much more extreme lengths just to survive.

@@bridge_four Yeah she was a bad person. In lore, the Exo Stranger came from an alternate Universe were Eramis allied with Darkness-infected Guardians and Cabal, and together, this Dark Alliance attacked the City and won, killing everyone and immediately began fighting eachother.

An event that also saw her lose her only love. That loss galvanize her conviction to find a way to protect her people at any cost. Unfortunately she succumbed to the whispers of the Darkness and embraced its power. Corrupting her vision, and dooming her future. She’s more of a tragic/fallen hero than a true villain.
It's worth noting that when you have two or more functional groups who have developed the capacity to annihilate one another totally and utterly, and to execute this annihilation while being annihilated, playing by the rules suddenly becomes a lot more important, because if one of those groups feels sufficiently threatened, they'll just exercise the "total annihilation" option and then everybody loses.

3:20 there is also another theory is that RASPUTIN the strategist who calculated that without the Traveler humanity would not survive without the Traveler so when the Traveler tried to escape RASPUTIN threatened him with a orbital bombardment forcing the Traveler to stay and create the ghosts as a last ditch attempt to fend off the darkness
It’s more likely that he’s a independent specialist that is asked to give guest lectures to new agents that are researching this particular alternate universe.
I really should try and get back into Destiny, I used to be massively into it and played it a ton but i've not done so for like two or three years, it's changed so much, so much more content I don't know if I can handle it... Amazing video though!
The biggest question I have is how did the fallen manage to make guardians suffer final deaths? I could be wrong on this one but I was lead to believe through the lore that it takes a paracausal force to kill a ghost for good, and as far as I know the fallen don't have weaponry like that.
Guardians can experience final death even when there ghost still around if the presence of the light is to weak, that's the canonical reason behind the darkness zones, the ones where ya have to reset if ya die.

Shaxx was the MVP, but it goes understated how much Ana Bray kicked ass with her Golden Gun. Plus, I thought that even exiled Osiris made an appearance but I guess I wrong since after the battle Saint-14 went on his crusade and than after the old warlock.

Destiny lore really needs more attention, I think it along with things like the visuals and music are extremely under appreciated and over looked.

The biggest question I have is how did the fallen manage to make guardians suffer final deaths? I could be wrong on this one but I was lead to believe through the lore that it takes a paracausal force to kill a ghost for good, and as far as I know the fallen don't have weaponry like that.
Guardians can experience final death even when there ghost still around if the presence of the light is to weak, that's the canonical reason behind the darkness zones, the ones where ya have to reset if ya die.
@@Awoken_Remmuz Thank you for the clarification, I always viewed the darkness zones as more of a game mechanic and not something that was happening lore wise, but it's good to know that it is actually real.
@@Ghostface2252 funny thing most game mechanics has some lore explanation, heck there's a in universe explanation why PvP maps from vaulted destinations are still around.
