    Hey guys,
    New to X-plane 11 ? No worries this is the ultimate tutorial channel for you!
    I will be doing tutorials about X-plane 11 weekly on saturday.
    In this video i'll show you how you can get a good approach using ILS,
    you can consider it "auto-landing". The plane will guide itself towards the runway and it will be perfectly on glideslope! Not that hard to set-up in the zibo 737-800, and the results are epic!

    Just want to say I've been watching a lot of flight sim videos of people sharing what they know of their passion and one common theme I've noticed is that people trash and insult the creators when they aren't perfect. This is UA-cam not a flight school and a lot of these creators are young and just trying to have fun. Why are so many pilots complete assholes to everyone who doesn't do it perfectly? I know it's a "tutorial" but it's still just for fun as this isn't an official tutorial and no real pilot is going to be using this video to learn how to do an ILS landing. Why can't people just move along and find another video if they think there was something so wrong with this?
    Is the pilot/flight sim community that toxic? I've seen insults thrown at a 13 year old because he had the wrong flaps. If any of you are actual pilots and you are insulting a child for pursuing his hobby you should be ashamed of yourself. You can teach someone something new rather than attacking them for something they didn't do right.

    You should set flaps to 30 for normal landing.
    You must use flaps 40 for short runway approach
    Flaps 15 is basically used for takeoff in short runways and 15 is used in landing while engine failure.
    Remember for standard takeoff flaps 5 is used and 30 is used for landing.

    You were a bit late in setting the final flap setting and vref speed before 1000 which means you weren't stabilized. Though it being late it still reached Vref before touchdown. And my comment about your landing was that you were too aggressive on the controls but overall good representation of how an approach should be done. I fly the 737-8's for a major scheduled carrier and that was NOT a hard landing which is defined by Boeing as vertical acceleration that exceeds 2.1G. The airplane did deem to float excessively as he sustained the flare. The goal when landing a 737-800 is to fly it onto the runway, not grease it on or even attempt that. From a design standpoint the 800's and 900's are longer than, let's say, 200's, so to avoid a tail-strike the approach is flatter. Then, too, because of the length you can't pitch up to slow the rate of descent as you can with shorter aircraft. My point, the landing was only problematic because he used too much runway by flaring too long.

    • @mintyaviation2376
      @mintyaviation2376 4 роки тому +1

      @@andredarin8966 If you don't count that as a firm landing then I certainly know what major carrier you fly for !! 🤣🤣

    • @andredarin8966
      @andredarin8966 4 роки тому

      I didn't watch the entire video, only the cockpit view. Clearly, you are right when you see the landing from "circle" view. If he were flying a Hornet onto a carrier, that would have been fine if it was a trap. This landing might have even met the criteria for a "hard landing" even though there's no universal definition for it. I remember landing at
      LGA, The F.O. was the PF, the flare was unremarkable and yet the airplane bounced. We both applied forward pressure on the yokes and the rollout was similarly unremarkable. Still, we had to discuss whether it should be noted as a "hard landing".
      We decided not to.
      That being said, "firm landings" are a different breed of cat and sometimes preferable. Such occasions might be landing on a wet or contaminated runway or a short runway like LGA's 31, which often requires a challenging approach.
      The advantage of a firm landing is that it reduces the chance of a runway overrun and gets the weight of the airplane on the mains quickly to improve braking as well as reducing angle of attack and lift which also enhances braking. These landings are useful at an airport like LGA when landing on 13 or 31 because ATC wants you off the runway as soon as possible.
      When flying the 737-800 you don't want to finesse things. Pick a spot, flare, but don't float, and get it on the ground. It's clear from the view you saw that I didn't that his rate of descent before landing was like a polished rock. You can also see that he
      didn't float which looked like the case with the cockpit view.
      In any case, you're right but remember: a "firm landing" may have been intended for the reasons I suggested. This was not one of them.

    This is not a ‘ILS autoland’ it is an ILS approach. An ‘autoland’ can only be done with ILS cat III, you would then need both autopilots. I think you disengaged the autopilot a bit late, I do at at 1000 feet most of the time. Also try landing with your nosewheel at the center line.

      Re: Jakob:Why are you being such a hard-ass? I fly 737-900ER's for a major U.S. carrier and this young man IS learning. And for what it's worth, while flaps 15 are generally not used for flight but for landing, on occasion there are exceptions. This wasn't one of them but these exceptions are employed in some scenarios--for instance when a faster approach speed is better than a slower one. Three of these situations are when landing in a strong crosswind; when there is the possibility of wind shear, or when you've lost an engine.
      The reason for approaching at a higher approach speed is that it provides a better stall margin and higher control authority in some situations. As a matter of fact, the Boeing 737 QRH calls for "flaps 15" with one engine inoperative or stabilizer trim inoperative.
      Finally, it is an established fact that at some airports and on some runways if you can't bring your aircraft to a stop using "flaps 15" with MAX auto brakes landing is not permitted.
      I would suggest to this young man that as a general rule of thumb, once the glide-slope is alive then he can bring in 15 degrees of flaps, and when he has both the glide-slope and localized nailed, then he can employ flaps 30 and drop the gear.
      And remember: with the Zibo mod this is single-pilot operation, and even with your F.O. handling much of the workload, landings are still never "gimmes". The best, most experienced pilots--very skilled aviators with 20,000 hours--still screw the pooch from time to time.
