I flew 3 ILS approaches, 2 in the 737-800 zibo mod and the 3rd in the Laminar 737-800. In the Zibo mod version, the ILS course must be set to the ILS course in the course selector , or the auto pilot does not follow the ILS. The auto pilot in the Laminar 737 does not require the course to be set to the ILS course. It flies the coupled approach fine. Same with the G1000 (E1000) equipped XPlanes. BTW, in all the general aviation planes I have flown, including my Garmin 430 with a 2 axis autopilot experimental plane , the ILS course did not have to be set, but was normal SOP. Don't know about airline aircraft; but would think it is SOP to set the ILS course in the Course selector, if not just for a reminder.
Very smooth Micah, I just wonder with the auto-throttle engaged and no snags/problems, where are the manual thrust levers set at during a normal ILS approach? Looking at your screen you are flying the Zibo Mod the same as mine and little blue dots are displayed to show the actual thrust lever setting. So what postion should the blue dot/thrust lever be at during the ILS approach please?
Configuring at 8nm DME like you did is a certain way to get bored, and annoy the aircraft behind you (if you’re on vatsim or smth). Great video for the basics of ils tho :)
Absolutely. Generally you'll maintain normal speed until the final approach fix, then you will slow down to around 210 knots. Only dropping gear at about 5 DME then flaps to full at 3.5 DME.
Two questions: 1. how to set your management control panel when you miss an approach and have to go to the hold? 2. how to exit the hold and attempt to go back to try again to land? This is on the B 737-800 Xplane 11. Thanks!
When you setup your approach it automatically has it in it. When you hit TOGA it automatically selects it. Autopilot will fly the go around and hold. Watch my Hold Tutorial on how to exit a hold.

Hi Micah, I flew the Zibo 737 many times, everything works perfectly until I get to the approach phase, where the pink diamonds and white empty dots on the PFD do not appear until I hit the VOR LOC button, and still not getting aligned on the glidescope. I get the correct ILS approach acronym IIAD on my PFD, but my plane still doesn't want to align on the glidescope. Any thoughts? Thanx earlier

Thanks for this tutorial Micah.... Just a quick question....Under the approach ref page I noticed the flap/speed is left blank _ _/_ _ _ .At what point or under what circumstances would you fill this in??? Thanks....
You'd do this before the approach. Generally, your weight and balance would be calculated based on a lot of factors to get your flaps and speed. You also have to take into account thr weather. However, in general, the Zibo FMC automatically calculates this fairly well. Select the 40° flap option for most landings. Select 30° during heavy crosswinds.
@@MicahMesser Thanks for the quick response Micah.... I will take your advice... No other video I watched showed the use of the vref set... It also appears when you use it the A/T automatically shuts off when the wheels touchdown on the runway... Thanks again...
Ruzkin Wender nope. As far as i know, you push “APP” (called arming the approach) when you’re cleared by ATC to fly that approach ( [callsign], descend & maintain xxxx ft, altimeters xxxx, cleared ILS rwy xx, report fully established). On your pfd, glideslope & localizer pop up in white (armed). Generally, if the glideslope comes alive (full magenta diamond), and ATC hasn’t cleared you for the approach (so you haven’t pushed APP), call atc immediately otherwise you’ll go way over your g/s, and be forced to go missed. Hope this helps ya :)
I'm noticing on many of my ILS approaches, that my PFD is not displaying the white ILS frequency information. I know I have the correct ILS frequency dialed into the nav radio and the CRS knob correctly set. But for some reason, it doesn't display on the PFD.... any insight?
I was on an airplane the other day and during mid air, the pilot extended the spoilers. Why is that? Was he overspeeeding? This was like 30 min prior to touchdown. Also, when should pilots let the gear down? I've heard something about final approach or? Finally, level change. Could you explain LVL Chg?
They use spoilers to slow down, yes. Airbus are known for it and are basically required. Pilots usually lower landing gear once they have been cleared to land, within 10NM, and have gotten to the appropriate speeds. Level change basically tells the aircraft to change altitude to the selected altitude on the MCP while disregarding vertical speed. In a climb, the thrust goes to max climb thrust while descending goes to idle thrust.
I have this weird issue on the standard 737-800 when flying from CYOW to CYUL in Canada. About 8nm out from the runway I intercept the localizer successfully, but when I click APP as the glideslope gets intercepted the ALT HLD stays on and I fly over the runway. MY speed is 165 KIAS for almost all of the approach and I have no idea why I can't pick up the g/s. Any ideas?
You have to turn off the Alt Hold. Hit that button. On the zibo mod theFMC does that automatically. BUT the glide slope must be captured from below. Or it will merrily fly right over the airport too high to land. This is also true in actual aircarft. Not sure about the big jets but my single engine plane with a Garmin 430 was like that. Also you must be within a certain horizontal distance from the center line of the localizer before hitting the Vor/Loc button. Don’t remmber the distance, but on the zibo version when the diamond on thr localizer indicator goes solid magenta then hit the loc button. Then if the glide slope diamond is solid hit the APP approach mode button.
So I guess my question is, Is there anyway to do this without using ATC? I'm just trying to autoland I really don't want to have to go back and forth with radios and stuff. The barometric thing, is that necessary? I didn't even see what changed when you moved it. My plane isn't catching the glideslope and descending like it should. I have everything tuned(except the baro)and APP activated and I see the magenta diamonds and I just go straight passed the runway. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

@@vasantramnarine2507 flaps break if you are overspending with them out. This causes the wing surfaces to be uneven, which Xp11 usually simulates as a right or left bank. Be sure you are going under or at the max flap speed (found near the landing gear lever), and you shouldn't have this problem.
Yeah I have 2 questions When I put the ILS my plane don t follow the localizer and go on the left and right. And my second question is how do you have the call approaching minimums and minimum. Thanks to answer me
1. Have you activated APP mode? 2. You have to set the minimums via the barometric or radio minimum dial. It sits near the barometric pressure reference dial. Select baro and put in the correct altitude according to charts.

If you are a beginner its completely normal to havr hard landings with airliners. The secret is a good approach angle and before you touchdown (GWPS is really helpful) you slightly pinch the nose upwards so the plane touches down with the rear gears. (Ground Proximity Wanring System is the system that goes like 50 40 30 20 10)
Maybe you should prepare before talking. Also you show a map that is impossible to see even on a big screen. Most people who upload tutorials (upload = make available on UA-cam) have no idea how to teach a topic. But thanks anyway.

Toe brakes. :) The rudder pedals also move like see-saws and when pressed forward with the toes it brakes the aircraft.
Oh, Thanks for the explaining :)
I’m new to X plane. How do you bring up the approach plates like that idk how.
Download the plugin AVITAB, and before your flight you can use sky vector to download the proper charts and diagrams.
DENflyer right on thanks man. I also want to get head phones and practice with people doing ATC. I’m in instrument training rn and doing the aim helps.
DENflyer I downloaded pilot edge and did my first flight with live ATC I’m still messing with the avitab downloading the PDFs for each airport but it’s pretty cool.
David Suchite Congrats! I’ve been using x plane 11 for about 4 years now, and I’m just starting on VATSIM.
DENflyer ya I just joined pilot edge and it’s awesome with live ATC. Honestly I just use my phone with flight plan pro for all the approach plates and airport diagrams. It’s definitely helping me in my instrument training.
I have watched 20 tutorials on ILS approach and every tutorial says different things... -_-
I'm really fucking tired from this...
Some say that you need VOR LOC, in some tutorials the diamonds appear by itself... I don't knoe what to fucking do anymore... I never got a fucking ILS landing EVER and I have tried 50 times...
Hey, for some reason on approach, the plane starts to roll really hard to the left for no reason. I think it may have something to do with the flaps but not sure. Any help
I would check to make sure your flaps are out correctly and also make sure your yaw dampener is on
Micah Messer Will do. Next time I have a flight on the 737-800, I’ll give you results.
Hi was this solved? This happened to me recently on the zibo
Yeah I have 2 questions
When I put the ILS my plane don t follow the localizer and go on the left and right.
@@MicahMesser thks I find for minimums but Ils when I put approch the purple Line go on the left then my plane turn and ILS fail
@@rom1463 have you matched your course with the course of the approach plate?
@@MicahMesser what does it mean? It is the frequens
@@rom1463 no. You have to dial your course on the MCP to match that of the ILS approach course.
Cannot see anything you set..?? How are you descnding to 2000 when not set?
Where can i get ILS charts?
In the U.S. you can get them from SkyVector.com outside of the U.S. I do not know.
do i need to get navlog for this
navigraph is easier, but you can just google the charts for your airport. Like "egll charts" and you will find a chart.
with AT on?
My plane starts banking to the right when i’m established
How can downloading please?
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RHz4PQqWNGGpVG9GaHr84kuGs8LM2xyK
this was good but not very friendly to the people who don't have navigraph. Like my self, I can't access some of the information you did.
google the charts: for example "eglc charts" for london city
Was very hard to determine what is changing when you press buttons and turn knobs I couldn't understand what does what cause I cant see what's going in on in the aircraft systems. Please make another better video clearly showing what you doing maybe you could zoom into what you doing
Thank you for the information on your video. However there are some inaccuracies that I noticed. I recommend you checkout these publications. FAA Instrument Procedures Handbook, Pilot's Handbook to Aeronautical knowledge, Advanced Avionics Handbook and Airplane Flying Handbook. I am an ATP Pilot and an Instructor, so having the correct information to educate other pilots with is always the best course.Wishing you and your subscribers Clear Skies and Strong Tailwinds
Not a pilot, yet, so as always I expect I will mess things up! Especially with a video that is this old. I have learned so much since then!
These publications have lots of valuable information in them for all Simmers / Pilots to know so they can become better. If you have an AOPA membership or Foreflight you have access to them for free or you can go to the FAA website and find them under there publications menu. As Pilots / Simmer we all strive to become better at this (very information heavy) profession or hobby. Thanks again for the video, I learned a lot from it.
Is max the same
In principle.
i notice that zibo has been suspended
It has been transferred to Threshold who is making a revised version.
@@MicahMesser would it be as difficult as the first version cause i was having problems installing
good vid but LOC is pronounced Loke, not lock
Correct!
Couple of things, u didn't set the course and didnt adjust the landing speed for wind
no butter
Thanks for this video. My problem is that my landings are always to hard :(
If you are a beginner its completely normal to havr hard landings with airliners. The secret is a good approach angle and before you touchdown (GWPS is really helpful) you slightly pinch the nose upwards so the plane touches down with the rear gears.
(Ground Proximity Wanring System is the system that goes like 50 40 30 20 10)
just keep practice it will help
Just keep practicing and you'll be buttering landing in no time.
Maybe you should prepare before talking. Also you show a map that is impossible to see even on a big screen. Most people who upload tutorials (upload = make available on UA-cam) have no idea how to teach a topic. But thanks anyway.
Hi . You have pluggins or addons to can see the edifications around the airport?
