The way you choose to visually represent musical concepts through shapes and colors is truly something special. This makes so much more sense to me than traditional notation. Thank you very much for tickling my creative brain sir.
Spot on! I don't understand most what is said without looking at the shapes and colors, and don't like Meshuggah but still here I am watching all the videos.
@@horseofunreason Man I wish more people like you exist. People that don't like Meshuggah but are mature enough to learn from them ! The amount of students I had that just simply DIDN'T agree to listen to them because of whatever reason, is embarrassingly high.

Meshuggah did a song called Don't Speak on their rather obscure compilation album Rare Trax in 2001, where they switch back and forth between different measures of tuplets and regular 8th notes, although the switches are pretty straightforward and isolated to individual bars.
I appreaciate what they attempted in TVSOR but I'm glad they went back to their more standard recording method because it feels more Meshuggah. This new album just sounds so precise like master surgeons effortlessly making incisions whereas TVSOR sounded more chaotic and out of control.
2nd riff is a heavy contender for best on the album. Along with the opening riff in The Faultless, the ending riff in Phantoms and THAT riff in Broken Cog for me*
Although not technically "in the same riff", another time I can think of that Meshuggah changed subdivisions within the same song is in future breed machine. They play a quarter note triplet + release riff at 4:30, and then at 4:39 they play a VERY similar but distinctly different dotted eighth pattern utilizing the same phrase structure. One of the most epic meshuggah moments in my opinion. The difference between the two riffs is so small yet so big at the same time. Amazing video Yogev!
I just got done watching his video on Future Breed Machine and he addresses this! It’s one of my favorite Meshuggah moments, too. It’s so imposing and just keeps crushing you. It’s hard to beat the guitar tone off that album.
Your enthusiasm is absolutely contagious! I had a very exhausting day at work but since I have watched this video I can't stop smiling :) Thank you very much!
Am I the only one who watches Mr Yogevs' videos an excessive amount of times? So much knowledge and of course any song hes discussed has been absolute fire.
@@YogevGabay 65 years of additional real estate for your brain just for aligning the impenetrable aphotic brilliance of the polyswede chugtacular djentlefolk!
This song is really cool. The chords. The constant leads. The crazy thirds they played around with this album. THE ENDING BRUH. This record is on par with C33 and Chaosphere imo
I really do love this album a lot. Really straight to the point and so “Meshuggah” . Feels like they trimmed a lot of fat on this one yet still expanding with wilder rhythms. It’s grabbing me as much C33, DEI and nothing did
@@Max_Payn3 I love this album too. I think the first half is flawless, the second half has one too many instrumental tracks and some of thw weaker tracks (Kaladeiscope I'm looking at you) but still great. Overall it's my second favorite Meshuggah album right now after Obzen.
This ending riff is one of the many moments that shocked me on this album and made me thinking what those people that say this album is just same as their older material mean) And i'm really kinda dumb with such stuff but not noticing loads of craziness Meshuggah put into this lp is crazy)
Love love love the new album! It took a sec to get the rhythms down as I expected lol. Ligature Marks is my favorite I think, but I am that thirst is dope.
I love your videos! I always get the same feeling when watching them. If I just listen to your explanation I don´t get anything, but if I close my eyes and listen to the music I get it immediately. I guess it's my lack of theoretical knowledge thats behind it. And of course I have covered this song :D
This was incredible, I’ve noticed a marked difference in my time signature identification abilities. Hopefully you are enjoying that Frontierer album. Thank you as always, you are a gift to many sir.
Your channel is amazing, Yagev. I've been a fan ever since I discovered it a couple years ago. You make me wish I was a drummer haha cheers from Latin America.
Just for reference: the triplet sections last 2, 4, 6, 8, 4, 12 beats respectively. Very very nice linear progression with the 4 thrown in to mix things up instead of a 10. Also, the fact that these are all even-length and that A is even-length (6 beats) while B is odd-length (3 beats) leaves that extra beat at the end, after the last version of C. Such a nice construction all together.
always literally dying to see your MAYSHUGGAH videos. so effectively delicious for understanding the depths of Meshuggah. Thanks Yogev! any plans to do another cover with your fellow musicians like you guys did for Stengah? that was beautiful!
When I listened to this I was completely blown away by the ending. I could swear it was new. Never heard before. Cool to see it confirmed! First video of yours I saw :-) instant subscribe
The only other time I can think of where Meshuggah combined different subdivisions is near the end of Future Breed Machine /watch?v=PoHa48lqsqE&t=268s where they have the triplets and duplets, but it's sort of two sections.
This album really is great. Familiar great stuff while adding a lot of new ideas that feel just so kickass! I'd love to see a breakdown of The Abysmal eye. The speraticness really throws you for a loop.
That had to have been the greatest video intro in all of youtube history lmao. This channel is awesome, I only wish I found it sooner than I did. Then again, finding it late gives me plenty of stuff to binge watch, so I guess its not so bad lol
That groove in the end is massive, but It feels like you have to unlock some hidden chambers in your brain to understand it. XD Thanks for helping with that.
THIS is content. Not just because it's about my favourite band but because it's well thought out, well presented and has actually helped me understand what they're doing. Love your stuff man.

This album has such a warm organic sound to it. Probably my favorite sounding Meshuggah album
I appreaciate what they attempted in TVSOR but I'm glad they went back to their more standard recording method because it feels more Meshuggah. This new album just sounds so precise like master surgeons effortlessly making incisions whereas TVSOR sounded more chaotic and out of control.
same this warm sound is my fav and it isn’t close
in riff#2 that descending guitar lick into that rlly low bend is one of the smoothest things meshuggah has done
MAYSHUGGAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think both main Phantoms riffs are rhythmically gems
I love the breakdown in the faultless absolutely groovy baby!!
i also love the second riff........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The phantoms riff is something I want to see live so bad . I can only imagine what it would feel and sound like 🔥
Mayshuggah, the best month of the year, thanks to you :D
Can’t wait to see you dissect “Phantoms”
Ohh that section with the triplets is nasty!
This is actually my favorite song from the album so it's really cool that the first video that brought me here is this track. Great job!
