August 12th, 1977 Seattle Center Coliseum Cheap Trick opening for KISS on the... LOVEGUN TOUR. Cheap Trick played this exact same set. It was AWESOME. Their wall of sound is completely unique. Rick's guitar supported by Tom's 12-string bass and an amp set-up with 3 separate amplifiers for the bottom, mids, and highs. Complete the sound with Bun's unmistakable percussion style. Put it together and you have a sound from a 3 piece that fills every void in the house. The cherry on the top is Robin Zander's completely unique singing Style. You never hear an off key or weak note coming out of that man's mouth. Powerful. Rock'n'roll specific. Aggressively male. It's always clear except for the occasional intentionally gravelly emphasis on a particular line in any one song. He sings his songs exactly the same in every single performance. You can depend on Robin 100% to deliver on any one night. You can depend on Cheap Trick to deliver a 100% pure rock and roll performance on any one night. Come on Come on is one of the greatest 2nd songs in Rock and Roll history. It always begins with four really heavy beats on a tomtom drum. I have always loved this song since the moment that I heard it live back in 1977. I am a lifelong dedicated fan of Cheap Trick!!!!
Absolutely perfect thanks so much for everything you guys really Robin Zander and thanks Tom Peterssson and Rick Nielsen and Brad Carlson AKA Bun E Carlos y'all are kick ass indeedy Cheap Trick fucking brilliant guys
Great song and performance by Cheap Trick. Robin Zander looks absolutely divine in his white suit with his blonde hair, brown eyes and beautiful, slender frame. He looks and sounds Superb.
A friend of mine introduced me and my friends to Kiss in about 1975 or 1976 (I would have been about 14). But he said the opening bands were Cheap Trick and the Runaways here at the Forum in Los Angeles Ca. So, we formed a garage band soon after and started learning these songs as well as Sabbath, Aerosmith, Nugent, AC/DC...and on and on!
I was 14 years old....1979...HUGE Cheap Trick fan....long story short, my best friend won a contest to meet them after the show....was the BEST night of my entire life! We also got to go ONSTAGE with them for one song! And now here I am at 59 years...still in love with Robin Zander....lol 😏

Live at Budokan is awesome. Live And Dangerous (By Thin Lizzy) is amazing as well. It's cobbled together from multiple concerts but as a Live album, the feel and musicianship is next level.
went to see them when i was 15 in providence civic center, 1978. first concert. they were awesome. saw them shortly after at the orpheum in providence. again, excellent. first 2 concerts of my life
Interviewer: "So what's the first thing you did when you arrived in Japan?" Rick: "Bought a guitar!" Robin: "Bought a guitar!" Tom: "Bought a guitar!" (source: From Tokyo to You)
As is the case with many others, "music is my mistress," but with this difference: see, over the years, I have romanced thousands of bands. Cheap Trick is more than a mistress, but my favourite Geisha.
Cool clip--it's like the still photos on the Budokan album cover coming to life...especially Nielsen holding up the guitar at the end (see back cover photo!!)
@@adannarvaez Why? He’s the best looking guy in the band. My friend Pete Comita replaced him for two years in 1979. He is. Gorgeous! He was also friends with Tom and Tom gave him the gig even. Google him if you wanna see a hot looking guy from CP
Cheap Trick In Color... and in Black and White is probably one of the most underrated albums of all time. Ironically, the WORST song on it is I want you to want me, which is BADLY produced on this album and gets set free on Budokan.
Kid Rock said it best at CT's RnR HOF inductory speech. 'No studio could do them justice. It took a live album to unleash their fury '. Watch it if you haven't already. Awesome induction...
If the Beatles survived past 1970 this is what they could've / should've sounded like in 1978. Live at Budakan this and Thin Lizzys Live and Dangerous best two Live rock albums of all time.
Japan has been in the news quite a lot lately-you know, when China threatened Tokyo with a nuclear strike if the Japanese dared to attempt to thwart a Chinese invasion of Taipei, Taiwan.
Not sure if you knew, but the Budokan version was actually recorded in Osaka on the same initial Japanese tour. This version, I believe was actually the Tokyo (Budokan) cut... :)
I'm pretty sure that right there Robin Zander is no more than 5 '5 and when Cheap Trick toured with my favorite British rocker John Waite back in the day 1985 to be exact is roughly 6 feet tell to be more accurate John's about 5'10

I'll buy that. Especially if you get the entire concert.
Definetly
#1 Ted Nugent double live gonzo
#2 Lynyrd Skynyrd one more from the road
#3 Bob Segar live bullet#4Cheap trick budokan
Yes indeed 💪🇨🇦☝️
Definitely. The Who Live at Leeds comes damn close though.
The Guitars Never drowned out the Vocals, like with most live rock bands. Maybe because Robin can actually Sing !
He'll Yeah!!!❤
Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Bun E.Carlos, Tom Petersson. Awesome time a million.
Can you imagine downvoting this? You would have to have eaten lead paint chips as a child
Robins voice is so unique and awesome, ♥️ And he's still extremely handsome today💋
A most wonderful singer indeed in my book.
I agree. His voice is smooth as silk and sweet as honey. And all dressed in white. There's something spiritual and pure about him. :)

My favorite song from my favorite band of all time.
So bizarre how 4 guys from the midwest who were having to play in dives just to get by were simultaneously the American Beatles in Japan.
If you want to see what they sound like truly "live" see: "Cheap Trick - live Pecatonica - July 4, 1979". 🙂🙂🙂
Budokan Japan best place for a live album in the 70-80 and more ..
Great Band and Song.....

Agreed.
Spot on.
I always thought thier early albums were poorly produced, sounding very thin. Which when played live is so much better.
Wrong. Cheap trick is the best yes some people THINK they are underrated but no.
Kid Rock said it best at CT's RnR HOF inductory speech. 'No studio could do them justice. It took a live album to unleash their fury '. Watch it if you haven't already. Awesome induction...

One of the many times the Japanese were smarter than us. But we got in line pretty quick after this gig was released in the states.
Japan has been in the news quite a lot lately-you know, when China threatened Tokyo with a nuclear strike if the Japanese dared to attempt to thwart a Chinese invasion of Taipei, Taiwan.

"I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT..."
And in 2006 they put out a song called come on come on come on. What's next come 4 times 😂

When Aerosmith hired Cheap Trick to play Joe Perry’s birthday party…
Not Aerosmith. Just Joe Perry request. He is a fan.
How tall is Rick Nielsen, 6'6"?
Maybe 6 feet. I met them a couple times. I was taller than all of em and I'm not extra tall. Although Bun was sitting so I can't say about him
