Your top 5 are mmhy top five too. Not so much in The Beatles. Seriously dope
Yeeees, here's to you Mr Chancellor.
@Otie Jason Yes 😀
Mr. Diaz Great as he is, he actually has few or no solo intros
Eeergh!! He's playing a P bass 😝
4 words: "Bass solo, take one"
pulling teeth metallica
for sure
That's one word
Those four words already kind of exclude that track from this list. 😜
Nailed it.
The intro to Would? still gives me chills to this day
I would listen to a full cover by the three of them.
And that’s one that I can play pretty well and I’m no guitar player but can strum a handful of good bass songs. Tool, Korn and AIC for me are pretty easy. Would is one of my favorites.
Yes, yes yes indeed. Would is one of my fav songs of all time. The only thing that sucked about it was it was less than 8 minutes long.
Now I gotta watch the vid. Again
@@wwlittlejOfficial Again is a great AIC song too
Also Rain When I Die
There is no way to leave off Under Pressure. Iconic.
It's from the same year as Bites the Dust and with the same band - I guess that's the explanation.
@@louise_rose correction under pressure was released in 1981 another one bites the dust was made in late 1980
Yes I agree under pressure should have been top 5
Under Pressure has to be on the list. It’s easily the most recognisable bass into…
Went straight to the comments looking for this (I'm a die hard queen fan)
Cannonball deserved an honorable mention. Instantly recognized and brilliant adding those flatted notes as an intro. Gives a feeling of release when you know the song and when you don't you get thrown. 😂
Ok, ok....
I came upon this video because I have been searching for THIS SONG THAT YOU LISTED for over a YEAR!
I had NO lyrics; all I had was the bass intro and the tune!
Omg, I would KISS you if I could! Thank you SO MUCH!
And I agree...this song should absolutely be on the list!
Cannot who?😂😂😂
said it the whole list...im a dude but no deal on a chick on the list is a melissed opportunity
RIP Cliff Burton. I never get tired of listening to his work.
Yeah his legacy will live forever and ever and ever
heee fokin left the band! period. full stop! no warning! no second chance!
It’s hard to comprehend that Cliff was so good at such a young age. I mean he started playing with Metallica at like 20 years old and he was already known for being an amazing bass player playing solos on bass like it’s a guitar! And it’s well known he had a really good understanding of music theory he would tell James and Kirk what notes to play when trying to doing Harmonies for a song they were writing. Even bassists that have been playing 30 plus years often don’t have the knowledge or abilities Cliff did. Cliff just was a true music fan he was born to be great and he was great it’s just too bad his life was cut short. I think if Cliff was still around Metallica’s music would probably have been different
@@NKomarov What are you talking about? He was killed in bus accident while Metallica were touring in Sweden
@@craigofadelaide4960 did you watch Some Kind of Monster
Dee Dee shouting 1-2-3-4 is my favorite intro by a bass player of all time
Good Call. For the uninitiated, it's almost the only way you know a new song is starting!
100%
Well played.
Never realized how good and massive sounding that Pearl Jam bass intro to “Jeremy” is. Excellent.
12 string bass ??? maybe he meant 8 string bass
@@haroldbranch7971nope, jeremy was played on a 12 string hamer
@@haroldbranch7971nope, triple stringed. There's 12. And he uses harmonics on the beast. Total legend.
Violent Femme - Blister in the Sun
Talking Heads - Psycho Killer
The Breeders - Cannonball
All iconic riffs that start the song that are instantly recognizeable.
I thought blister in the sun was played on guitar
I would add Gigantic to your list
Agree! Add John Entwistle (The Who) - "Real Me" and Deep Purple "Highway Star"
Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads and her Bass Intro for "Psycho Killer" deserves mention among the greatest Rock Bass Intros of all time.
@Gonzo England Dude, If Runnin with the Devil can be considered among the greatest, even with it's simplicity, Psycho Killer belongs!
I agree, based on this list.
Ooooh, Yes it does!
that is one "PSYCHO KILLER" bass line introduction by TALKING HEADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Gonzo England how come?
The guitar tone you had for "Would?" was spot on man
My favourite basslines:
blink-182 - Carousel
Pearl Jam - Jeremy
Alice In Chains - Stone
RHCP - Give It Away
Pennywise - F*** Authority
The Cure - Primary
Pearl Jam - Rats
Alice In Chains - Would?
RATM - Bullet In the Head
Nirvana - Blew
The Cure - A Forest
RHCP - Higher Ground
Bush - Alien
Cage the Elephant - Drones In the Valley
blink-182 - Josie
Rancid - Ruby Soho
Nirvana - Lounge Act
Soundgarden - Flower
The 1975 - Happiness
Toxic Holocaust - ATOMIC
If I could give this post 10 up votes, I would
Oh 'A Forest' for sure!!!!!!
Mccartney's bass line on "Silly love songs". I mean....phenomenal!
Hysteria doesn't just have a bass intro, the bass is literally the lead for the ENTIRE SONG(except the solo, of course)
Most Muse songs are bass driven.
@@Lurch685 Yes, but Hysteria is the song where it shows the most
Not the entire song, the chorus is different (what the solo plays over), and the bridge/outro is a variation of the main riff
Can't fathom how Hysteria is at #20 when #19 is just a few slow notes.
@@player12gaming89 I'd've said Gods Of War is a great example, from 0:52 onwards 😅
1:28 #20 _Hysteria_ Muse

William Adderholdt MVP
Good, "Peace Sells" made the list
Raymond Lugo I thought hat was just an MTV bumper riff ;-)
RHCP 🤗
you got #5 mixed up with peace sells...
Chris Squire has a couple gems. Heart of the Sunrise has that blazing fast intro, and Long Distance Runaround (which may not count since the the bass doesn't start in the first measure but instead kind of echos the true beginning of the song but in a much more interesting way).
Yep, he's a hero of course, and with a sound and sense of tone that are quite his own. A central part of the Yes sound.
It was great to see a piece from Big Generator, one of the most under appreciated albums of its age, and certainly one of Yes's best which never gets enough love.
CS bass intros:
- "Beyond and Before"
- "Harold Land"
- "Survival"
- "Sweet Dreams"
- "Heart of the Sunrise" (should have made the list)
- "Ritual"
- "On the Silent Wings of Freedom"
- "Does It Really Happen?" (should have made the list)
- "Into the Lens"
- "City of Love"
- "Shoot High Aim Low"
- "I'm Running" (at least he got a runner up 🙄)
- "Real Love"
- "The Messenger"
... and more
@@yes_headdoes it really happen is a great bassline
I knew what number 1 would be without watching the video. Cliff Burton was absolutely phenomenal, shame he’s no longer with us
Under pressure should be on this list
Agreed! Probably one of the most recognizable bass lines/intros ever.
Yea for sure completely forgot about that one
Agree with you..
i think include "the rage" from Judas Priest.
Certainly a classic, but if you can only put one John Deacon performance on there, I think you gotta give it to Another One Bites the Dust.
@Johann Puerta ,,don't forget "Body Language " of Queen too
I must confess I'm outraged that “NO MORE TEARS” is not on the list. Hehehehe! For me it's an iconic Top 3!
Came here JUST to add this and you beat me to it!!
verdade gaveta
Concordo gaveta
totally 💯
i was expecting it from the beginning, now im pissed
So glad Lounge Act is in your Top 20. Always loved that bass intro and thought of it as soon as I read the topic. Krist was so important for Nirvana.
My #1..."One of these days" by Pink Floyd. Roger Waters' bass on this song defines it from the beginning to the end.
I'm quite certain that's actually Gilmour playing the bass for that recording. And somevody else always plays it live.
@@codychickadee5095There’s actually two bass tracks on that song, one panned hard left and one hard right. The one that starts the song is David and the one that joins shortly after is Roger
Have always loved this song...my favorite bass ever...followed by the intro to 100,000 years
" I got two words for you. Lemmy. "
Rick Beato 2019
Literal LOL!
i think lemmy's name was derived from lend me or let me
LMAO
@@detectivejuice7113 It was "lend me", because he was always asking for money. That's the story I heard tho
I saw them when I was 13 on an iron maiden ticket it was a great set Motorhead, DIO, and then Iron maiden- best metal show I ever went too.
I'm glad you said Krist Novelsic doesn't get enough credit for how good he is. Damn straight he doesn't.
Funny you should say that because for me that's the outstanding comment Rick made above all other comments regarding bass players on his list. Lounge Act also happens to be my favourite Nirvana record.
In Bloom :)
Nirvana was straight garbage. Best thing to happen to that band was Foo Fighters. Thanks, Kurt!
@@kjmdrumz3 Nirvana was garbage? they influenced so much with their music
@@kjmdrumz3 Let's hear your compositions so we can compare
Running with the devil is still one of my favorite bass intros of all time. Yes it's incredibly simple but the tone sounds so... Evil. And it's perfect for the song.
My favourite van halen song.
I love your picks… Two of my favorites not on your list were no technically difficult… but for me they are memorable none the less.
The Who - “Real Me”
Tommy Bolin - “Post Toastee”
Cliff Burton, Oakland, Day on the Green, 1985... you nailed that one.
Just only Cliff played it without thumb ;)
As soon as I heard it I was like this a cover from the Day On The Green gig. I wish they had fully recorded that show :(
Queen under pressure... I mean there isn't one person out there who couldn't recognize that simple yet memorable riff.
Vanilla Ice?
Right but that came from Queen Under Pressure.
Not familiar with that.
He has Another One Bites the Dust on the List, and I guess he doesn't want to do the same artist twice.
You should do a best bass intro list. Not just rock...
I never get tired of that baseline in Mudshovel by Staind. So simple and so good!
Jethro Tull's Living In The Past definitely deserves to be in the top 20.Its one of the coolest bass intros ever -- and its also in 5/4 so its doubly cool.
Fully agree (I just made that comment).
Why not "Bouree" also?
@@yes_head because the intro is played by flute and bass so not strictly speaking a 'just bass' intro great track though!
Psycho Killer’s bass line is so simple but so menacing.
Tina grooving hard on that one
Yea
When he said krist novoselic didn’t get enough recognition. I felt that
True 😪
Forsure! Blew would have been on my list.
@@FarOutWizard no fuckin joke 💪
Robert DeLeo - STP, great grunge era bassist. Really good player.
@@jamesbenoit5252 these are hard facts too ❤️
Geddy's intro in Cygnus X-1 is cooler than Turn the Page...especially with having to wait almost 2 minutes to get there 🤘
A couple of adds for me would be "Blood and Roses" by the Smithereens, and "Mountain Song" by Jane's Addiction.
+1 for Blood and Roses. Top tune!
Ooh, Smithereens, nice!
Slap like if you... ops, wrong channel
I'm pretty sure he thinks #12(4:50) is the only very impressive intro on this list.
do it now!
O M G
Haha wanted to post the same.
Now I have to wipe my monitor...
Under Pressure’s intro is timeless
better than Another One Bites the Dust which ripped off Good Times by Chic
@@ramzlindistress Actually it didn't since John Deacon actually participated (uncredited) in that session.
I kept expecting that one too
I f*cking hate it lol. And I play bass. It's simple, stupid and sooo boring! 😂🙄😖
@@udsmall7306 so what if its simple its fun
Would have loved to see “Sun goes down” by Thin Lizzy. Love the bass intro and Phil just adds the cherry on top 💙🙏🏼
I totally agree.
Waiting For An Alibi or
Dancing In The Moonlight could be there too.
There are some bass riffs that Deacy played. The bass line from Under Pressure was his, according to Roger's story, they were in a session together, and he kept playing the line from Under Pressure, and when their ordered pizza came, they all came to eat. After eating, they all came back to the studio, and Deacy forgot about the riff, good thing Rog remembered it.
Also A Kind Of Magic and Dragon Attack riffs are quite good as well in my opinion.
I once had crappy seats, behind and above the stage at an Aerosmith concert. It wasn’t a hard sellout, as these cheap seats were lightly occupied, just a handful of us up there, but when they started Sweet Emotion, Tom Hamilton turned around with a grin on his face and played the whole intro for just us. We all got up and started grooving. Really made the show for me.
That's pretty freakin' great!
Queen/Bowie - Under Pressure
Lou Reed - Take a Walk on the Wild Side
The Who - My Generation
The Clash - Guns of Brixton
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love
Tool - 46 and 2
Greenday - Longview
Metallica - My friend of misery
When I saw the title of the video Walk On the Wild Side is the first thing that came to mind. It is two of the most iconic rock bass lines.
Oh wow - good point about Under Pressure. I’d say that was almost better than Another One Bites The Dust. It was even used by Vanilla Ice, so it was a chart topping song for two different artists in two different genres, many years apart.
Tho I don’t know if mentioning Vanilla Ice helps or hurts the argument!
@Colby Dipsen some of Rick's picks also have drums playing along with the bass too....so.. ;)
"Mississippi Queen" by Mountain
I always liked the bass intro to the Stones’ track Live With Me… also the great bass run into Flying Saucer Attack by The Rezillos.
Another one bites the dust is definitely worth being on that list ❤️ thank you thank you
Only major omission imho is Jack Bruce. 'Badge' and 'Sunshine of your love' surely deserve a mention? Love your channel.
Amen
Absolutely!
‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ isn’t a bass intro, the guitar riff is an intro
This video is bass intros, not basslines
The bass and guitar both play the intro, and it was written by Bruce on the bass
John Deacon of Queen who came in at number10 on this list had another memorable bass intro on the song "Under Pressure".
Yeah, I was awaiting also that!
And I think better than that or another one bites the dust is the groovy dragon attack bass riff
and Another one bites the dust isn’t even a rock track 🤷♂️
Spot on.
@@paulstubbs1843 and they borrowed the baseline from another song (Chic: Good Times)
I don't know if it really qualifies as an "intro" (because the drums do kick in first), but the bass part that starts out "Digital Man" by Rush is absolutely epic. Actually, come to think of it, the bass on the whole song is incredible. Same could be said for "Analog Kid", and they're both from their 1981 release "Signals". Geddy was on fire for pretty much that whole album....
Geddy was also on fire for the entirety of Hold Your Fire as well! Geddy is just an amazing bass player all around!
Geddy was also on fire for the entirety of Hold Your Fire as well! Geddy is just an amazing bass player all around!
So cool! And I was thrilled that you deservedly gave first place to my favorite bassist!
On top of my head:
-Badge, Cream
-My friend of misery, Metallica
-Under Pressure, Queen
Tou Fik I was about to say My Friend of Misery is my favorite of all time
Queen was included, of course, as was Metallica.
@@paulsimmons3734 They were included, but not the songs mentioned.
I was telling my youngest son that My Friend of Misery is going to be on the list. Again, Jason Newstead is overlooked because he was a Metallica fan. He payed the price for being a fan for a band that mistreated him.
Under preasure and my friend of misery.. yes you are right brother!
I think My Friend of Misery deserves a spot on the list, Jason Newsted is criminally underrated
The God that Failed has a tasty bass intro
I came here to say this too. I loved My Friend of Misery” from the Black Album. I feel like Newsted was definitely underrated.
not an intro, the base line goes through the whole song except for some interludes
@fuckass6766 true, but you could still consider it an intro since the bass line is isolated at the start
@@arthurballs9632 I've got a bass and drums only version, and it's the ringtone and alarm on my cell phone. ☎
Great video with great music.
Really demonstrates how versatile the electric bass guitar is.
I always loved the intros to Silverchairs debut album with Israel's Son and Skunk Anansie's I Can Dream. They grab you immediately.
Hysteria at #20, ranking below that Van Halen, one note toss???
Sam Unwin Hysteria would have been #1 on my list.
Muse underrated as always. They just can't handle that someone new can beat their old stuff. Such old school fans. Snobs, maybe?
I clicked on this video knowing damn well Hysteria would be here. Was very disappointed to see it so soon..
Hey, it's iconic!
Muse bass player is so underrated. They put lot of work on bass.
The bass player is an absolute shredder
He shreds on keyboard too check out Ricks Top 20 Keyboard Intros
Not that this song would be on anyone’s radar because it was on the Stone’s “12x5” album 187 years ago, but Bill Wyman’s intro to “2120 South Michigan Avenue” (the address of Chess Records) set down an undeniable groove. It is an original blues-rock instrumental by the Stones that was essentially a jam built on top of Wyman’s bass line. George Thorogood released an album by the same name in 2011 and included a cover of the song.
NICE EFFECTS ON THE ALICE IN CHAINS TUNE. ALWAYS LOVE YOUR VIDEOS . ROCK ON!
All your sins were forgiven when you closed the list with Cliff Burton
William Dias except not adding phantom of the opera but it’s chill
I was wonderin' when he'd get around to Cliff
Alonso the guitar plays with the bass for that intro
I was pretty sure he won't include it at all, lol.
No
The Breeders- Cannonball, Joy Division- Transmission, Pixies- Gigantic and The Stone Roses- i wanna be adored. 😊👍
TOTALLY WANTED
Gigantic is one of my favorites, but no body knows it.
The Pixies Gigantic is way under-rated.....
A big Hell Yeah to all of these.....
I love Beato, but he's kind of a classic-rock guy. Punk/postpunk/alt/indie rock frequently get short shrift from him. It's my only complaint about this channel and these "Top/Best" list videos. (Of course, with only 20, you're always gonna have to leave out a bunch of good stuff).
What about Jethro Tull's "Living in the past" ? Gorgeous intro.
Exactly (I have just made that comment).
I’m a guitar player and don’t own a bass guitar but I still think bass is such an under appreciated instrument.
Waiting Room by Fugazi was the first song that came to my mind when i read the title
I tried to like your comment more, but UA-cam wouldn't let me.
I was scrolling comment to see who else was in the know. Came to me first too.
are you saying this list was water down the drain?
same
Love that intro!
"It's so Easy" - Guns 'N Roses
"No More Tears" - Ozzy
"Under Pressure" - Queen
"I Was made for Loving You" - Kiss
"Bad Love" - Eric Clapton & Phil Collins
Beautiful. That is.
"Eight Miles High" ~ Byrds
"Let There Be More Light" ~ Pink Floyd (which considering is 1968 should be in the Top 5 of this Top 20) and Yes' "I'm Running" intro seems "similar".....
"Badge" ~ Cream
"We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" ~ Animals
"Ball Of Confusion" ~ Temptations
"Brontosaurus" ~ The Move
"Boris The Spider" ~ The Who (the No. 1 in the vid seems to have been "influenced" by this)
"It's My Life" ~ Animals Chas again!
"Time Of The Season" ~ Zombies
"Papa Was A Rolling Stone" ~ Temptations
SEVEN NATION ARMY...
@@justkiddin1980 its *technically* a guitar intro, brought down one octave from a whammy pedal
i think jack white said that in an interview. its on someones video on how seven nation army became a stadium chant
GuyWhoGames21 Okay thnx for clearing that up, i did not know that..
Runnin' with the Devil - I cracked up because it is such a simple bass line and I was expecting them all to be complex. But then, if you were a teenager back in the 1970s (as I was) and you put their debut album on, hearing that bass intro again today (and all other times) takes you right back to that first iconic listen every time.
Really great list. I'm not a musician, but really enjoy every video you post, Rick. The only song I missed was Around The World by RHCP. Higher Ground was well picked, anyway.
It's not even a RHCP song though... Should have been a credit to Stevie Wonder
I was looking for rhcp on the list
I was waiting for Cliff Burton the entire time ....brilliant list!!
Funk Master YES SIR DID THAT MAN JUSTICE RIP CLIFF LEE BURTON
I was waiting for that as well!
Same here!!! Was like!! Where is cliff!!
rip cliff. he was as is an inspiration to many people
Fugazi's Waiting Room opens with a bass line that may well be considered *the* clarion call for all fans of punk rock.
YES!!!
I literally watched this whole video expecting them to do "Waiting Room". Breaks my heart they left it out. The children need to know.
@@michaelmeehan9553 Same! There isn't a better groove out there in punk than the Waiting Room!!!
DC Kid here from the day. I was expecting the same thing and came here to mention 'Waiting Room'. But now that I think about it, Fugazi is too cool and DIY for this list.
Love Rick Beato but damn! Joe probably didn't even cross his mind. I mean Tool made it on this list twice. Lol. We can pretend A perfect Circle is a different band but they're not. Not really.
Heck yes!! 🤘🏻💯
Love your channel Rick, me and my dad always discuss your videos. Thank you
Great list!!! Nice work!! I love it
"Badge" Jack Bruce - Cream - 'nuff said!
So glad Cliff Burton's For Whom the Bell Tolls was on there.
Simply had to be...
Best intro
Day on the green 1985 Oakland is the best version of that song IMO
Jeremy Collin has to be
I was hoping more for Anesthesia, but this works too.
MY fave of all your videos that I’ve watched thus far!
Great video man, on that pearl jam tune you can play harmonics on the 5th and 7th frets to follow the guitar pattern if you dont have it in the backing track. Sounds way cooler. The first run is harmonic at the 7th fret, on the g string then 7th fret harmonic on the d string. Seconed run is harmonic on the 7th on the g, then 5th fret on the g string.
I was unbelievably anxious wondering if “For Whom the Bell Tolls” would even be here thank goodness it made the list! First time I watched a live performance my jaw dropped like three times in a row. First time I ever saw someone SHREDDING like a MASTER on the bass!!! Like holy crap it’s legendary!!!!
Duuuuuuddeee, I was the same way. I was literally typing “why didn’t you include Cliff?!”
I was just about to write this exact thing.
Glad I was not the only one!!
As soon as he said "...is no longer with us!", a smile came to my face... because, there can be only one!!
I don't think I even knew that intro was on the bass until I got the Cliff 'Em All video. It blew me away!
yeah i was afraid he would not include cliff on this list!
'The Real Me' should have easily made the list. John Entwistle, one of rock"s most talented and underappreciated gems.
I can't believe I didn't think of that one!!
That is my number one!
Yup. All time best.
Goated comment. The Ox was an absolute monster
yes super intense playing there
The Rage, Love Bites and Revolution by Judas Priest have incredible bass intros.
Sooo right!
Great list! One classic 90s song that deserves a mention, "Cannonball" from The Breeders. Pretty iconic!
Exactly
Yup. This is the first one that came to mind. An absolute banger 👊
YES! I'm not even a big fan of that song, but leaving it off this list was a HUGE oversight
Hell yeah!
The problem is that cannonball starts with a vocal intro followed by a drum riff before the bass kicks in...
Walk on the wild side - Lou Reed has two (2) basses!
It's Bass intros, only one allowed.
a bass and a acustic bass ( contrabbasso)
Played by Herbie Flowers
The legendary bassist Abe Laboriel played a solo on the intro to my song The Friend of Africa that he improvised in the studio over the keyboard pad. I think he did it in two takes. It was brilliant!
Well done, Rick. As Musician since 50 years... I really miss my lifetime topic bass intro: Deep Purple, you keep on moving
Cygnus X-1Book I is, for my money, the greatest bass intro of all time.
Totally agree.
Seriously - how'd this not even make it to the Honourably Mentions???
Better than Headlong Flight?
tromoff better than Seven Cities of Gold? (Lol I think the drums come in, quietly, at about the same time) but that’s the first thing that came to mind when I thought “bass intro” and “Rush” for some reason. Cygnus is legendary tho and that riff is unmistakeable.
Heck yeah. Listened to it 2x today.
I second everyone who says "Waiting Room" by Fugazi
Every member in that band is one of my all time favorites at what they do
Couldn't have been more surprised- and PLEASED - to see I'm Running by Yes make the honorable mention list. Great taste in BASS 🫡
Rick, I have watched lots of your videos and really appreciate your expertise. I’d love to see (and hear) a reference to Mick Karn who was a brilliant player especially with the fretless bass
Gentlemen Take Polaroids & Quiet Life are just friggin phenomenal.
I always loved the opening bass riff to “Guns of Brixton” by The Clash. Not the most technically impressive but such an amazing opening bass line
Technically impressive should be 100% irrelevant, but clearly not the case for most on here. I'm not a Van Halen fan, but folks are literally putting down the "Running With the Devil" intro by posting the tab. Well I don't care for it, but the simple tab isn't why!
@@paulevans8348 Paul, I hear you on “Devil” - I don’t care for the song or for Van Halen - but how do you feel about intros like “Brixton” and “Psycho Killer,” which are simple and easy to play but incredibly effective?
I agree! Such a great song. Especially with bass lines virtuosity doesn’t matter, it is all about the feel, or the groove.
And London Calling.
I'm with you on Guns of Brixton
I'm also gobsmacked Peaches by The Stranglers doesnt make this list
Some great Bass Riffs in there Rick! Two of my favourites are:
Long View - Green Day
In The Meantime - Spacehog
Excellent choices
I figured Longview isn't on here because it starts with drums and not bass.
YES! ALL OF THE ABOVE
I’m surprised he didn’t include Green Day. Mike gave Dookie a whole personality!! Almost every song in that album revolves around the bass
Warhead u k subs
Don t give me no lip child sex pistols
I realize this is a rock bass list. I would love to see a list that includes dance or R+B music. It is Bernard Edward's bassline on the track "My Forbidden Lover" that makes my jaw drop and he was equally impressive on "Good Times" and other mega-hits the group released. On this list my favorite was the honorable mention Radiohead track.
Peaches by the stranglers. J.J. Burnel has such a unique and instantly recognizable tone.
"Under Pressure" not even making the honorable mentions is a surprise.
I'd definitely include Tina Weymouth's "Psycho Killer" in that list, or at the very least, in the honorable mentions. It's one of the most memorable and recognizable basslines ever!
It’s not rock. It’s … well … Talking Heads 😊
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
Fa fa fa fa, fa fa fa fa faaa fa. Better, run run run run run run aawaaaayyyyyy. 😄👍❤
@@aleswitch Ooooooo oooooo oooooo.... OOO YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH MMMMMMMM
Yeah! ... Wait, no... "Once in a Lifetime" would be my favourite.
Great recording, audio quality awesome 👍🏻😊
I would definitely put John Entwistle’s intro for “The Real Me” as my favorite bass intro.
Agreed. the Bass is phenomenal on that song . . .
Pinball Wizard
John "ThunderFingers" Entwistle.
Couldn’t agree more 👌
The Real Me is the perfect example of the lead bass......phenomenal song , phenomenal band , out of this world bass playing
Don’t forget “Longview” by Green Day. The intro has both the drums and bass but it is iconic.
This was the first song I thought of when I saw the title of the video. It is the heart of the song. It jumps to the front from the get go. It is eternally memorable.
Yeah, I thought it will be on the list as well. I'm green Day fan, so slightly disappointed
@@victorlichtenberg4069 I am Green Day fan too. I saw them in August 2021 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
It is literally the first song I thought of when I saw the video title.
Exactly. He is missing out some obvious ones in these top20 lists.
So glad Lounge Act made it on here. It was always one of my favorites
Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” will always be the coolest
right. the bass line IS the song
Surprised not to see "Badge" in even the Honorable Mention category.
:'(
IDK how you can rank rock bass w/o Jack Bruce.
The rhythm guitar kicks that one off.
Best bass intro belongs to Jump Into The Fire. No debate. Rick really misses it on this vid. One of the signature surf tunes was way overlooked as well, Pipeline. No love for The Clash either? Radio Clash has to be included here.
Also ... "Born Under A Bad Sign"
Hey Rick, I think you could expand that list. More videos on this issue are welcome!
Good for you for putting “him” on top. He was an innovator and the REASON “they” as a band are where they are in terms of setting a foundation.
Green Day's Longview should honorable mention.
Damn right!
That and Warning!
Or Panic Song
That was a honorable mention for drum intros
No One Knows from Kerplunk should have made the list
I am amazed that Thin lizzy don't even get a mention and had some brilliant bass intros.
Far better than most on your list
Dancin’ in the moonlight was the first one I had to learn
Waiting for an Alibi!
Shocked that Whiskey in the Jar didn't get a mention in his electric guitar intros list either.
I believe Beato knows Thin Lizzy and has at least mentioned Gary Moore once but is not interested in examining the Irish rockers. U2 fits his liking more then Philip Lynott.
I find it funny Mr Beato will praise Metallica and others like Foo Fighters but fails to realize that these cats were highly influenced by Lizzy.
Would was the first song I thought of.
Weak and Powerless just makes me melt!
Sweet emotion é simplesmente sensacional!
This list isn’t complete without No more tears from Ozzy. Truly massive bass intro. Another honorable mention for Fischer Z and So Long. That is a super fun line to play.
Or the song "Believer", by Ozzy.
Number 19 has quarter notes that don't change🙄
I was thinking that the entire time. Couldn't agree more.
Yeah it should definitely be on the list but then the video would have gotten taken down.
Honorable mention to "Blood and Roses" by the Smithereens
Would have to add a John Entwistle piece, "The Real Me" or "Boris the Spider".
I agree. “Those first (hundred) notes of “The Real Me” are so iconic and super-stylized. They shout “Thunderfingers!”
it's a shame there's no Ox in the list, truly the most gifted bass player: what about Success Story or Trick Of The Light? their bass intros are awesome
The Real Me was my first thought when I saw this in my suggestions
Spot on
This list isn't legit without "The real me"
