If it's for home defense you really don't want or need over-penetration. That last round inflicted the damage you'd need without getting the wallpaper dirty.
The shockwave on the last shot looks really fatal if it hits the target. The question now is no longer whether it is adequate for self defense or protection. Only 2 choices: cremation or burial.

How do you defend yoursef from many people with machines guns coming into your house?
@@yacovlevi I can't tell if you are being serious or not? In the United States, we don't have multiple people coming in our homes with machine guns. Machine guns here cost about $20,000 on average per weapon, so very few criminals have those. Most criminals in the United States choose pistols because they are easily concealable and do not draw attention to the criminals before or after their crimes. However, if you live in a country where criminals have access to machine guns and you are being serious, I would think the only solution would be to booby trap the house/property and build a sort of defensive position in a room where you could hide either behind a 1/4" steel safe or even put 1/4" steel up on the side of a wall to stop gun fire and provide you with cover to return fire from. I would want a semi auto shotgun like a Benelli M4 or Beretta 1301. I would also want an AR15 or AK47 just in case you run out of ammo on the shotgun and there are still attackers around. The only downside to the shotgun is it takes longer to reload if you use up all the ammo in it and still have attackers present. Beyond that, I think in a home, a shotgun has an advantage over a machine gun. You absolutely want to use buck shot ammo only. I personally like #2 or #4 buckshot. Do not use bird shot. I would also reinforce my metal doors, and mount bars on my windows from the inside using large lag bolts connecting into the framing of the home. I would look into bear traps to put in front of windows or doorways so if a intruder came in, they would step in it, and their ankle or leg broken. Obviously if you have children in the home, do not do this, as it is a accident waiting to happen. You could also get a few large dogs, such as Turkish Kangals, or Argentina Dogos. The more dogs you have, the harder it is for someone to "deal" with them.

As a surgical tect. for over 17 years, I've been involved in a few procedures - One of the first things is: The surgeon is exploring the wound trying to find the bleeders. The trauma produced by all the shot would be a nightmare. It's easier to find the single bullet and its damage. Center chest shot, would never make it to the operating room, Their DOA. If they survived the shot and operating room table, the next concern will be infections from clothing and other material within the wound! Their life will be changed forever. Either way, I don't believe they will be a repeat offender! Enjoyed the demo, well done Sir.
What about a rookie such as myself, who's hands will probably be shaking in the middle of the night? Of course, in a Hollywood scenario, my "bad shot" could hit miss the center and hit their head (which should be 99% lethal, right?), but I'm worried about busting their kneecap, then getting sued when they break their hip on my porch, etc.. Happens all the time. I hope I never have to use it but there's been many break-ins even in the "good areas".

One thing you need to understand is that the criminal/murderer/house breaker rapist sealed their own fate the moment they decided to commit a crime. Never second guess anything, that can get you killed. A methed up psycho will continue to come at you, sometimes they don't feel pain. Always have that in your mind: The sealed their own fate.
My first shotgun was a .410 from Ward catalog. I got it when I was 8. I used that gun alongside guys with 20 and 12 gauges. I could shoot with the same results. In home defense a .410 is the perfect weapon with great accuracy, easy recoil control, and choice of force used (bird shot, rabbit shot, buckshot, and slug....) depending on the situation. That .410 was my main hunting gun. Even though I eventually bought other shotguns and rifles, I always went back to "Ol trusty". Now retired, it's still the favorite gun out of my collection.
I just wrote about my first shotgun being a 410 I didn't say it in the article but mine was from Montgomery Ward's also had that small detachable clip that held three shells from what I remember really nice gun and it did the job on many larger animals I'll just say
@@walterpitkevits5101 My brother had that model in a 20 gauge with an adjustable choke that you turned at the end of the barrel. We both received shotguns when we were 8 and 9 in the 1970's.

I have a Henry Axe and a Henry .22 Mare's Leg.
I can do the flippy reload with the .22 but the loop on the Axe is just a little too small and the barrel is just a little too long.

@@billjamal4764 No doubt, small "weak" rounds have put many poor fools under. But, that slug looked like stopping power to me. That was making a 44magnum-like statement.
I definitely think that .410 birdshot is a non viable self defense load, if possible id like something that will penetrate more.. Someone who is in the wrong state of mind could definitely keep fighting through something like that. Not saying that a normal person would, but under the wrong circumstances the human body is most definitely capable of continuing function after recieving that particular loading.
No stopping power idiocracy here, but i definitely want something that will cause lethal damage (nerve disruption and/or rapid loss of blood pressure) and I doubt that when bones and muscle tissue are involved, rather than just gelatin, that 7 1/2 shot will cause the damage necessary to stop a human reguardless of mental state.
In the end I think it comes down to the mental comfort of knowing that what you have will do the job no matter the circumstances. That is probbably a bigger factor in self defense weapon choices for most than the actual viability of the weapon.
My opinion is that when it comes to self defense, there is no such thing as overkill. I have a 9mm with a red dot and a weapon light/laser at my bedside, and have had some say that is overkill. I say id rather be too prepared than not prepared enough.
Man that slug would leave a large hole on a person. The shockwave even looked painful. I'm convinced a .410 can get the job done, but I was convinced before this video came out.

Has twice the muzzle velocit of a 45LC, and more than twice the muzzle energy.
111 grain slugs in .410 are right about half of the 220, 230 of the typical .45
.410 slug will run pretty clean through the broadside of a good sized deer at 40-50 yards.
They are plenty powerful enough with surprisingly good penetration and really versatile, with the exception of range.
This one might be a good survival/backpacking gun?
The slug penetrated well enough to take a criminal down and do some serious damage. The other observation I made was the amount of shock factor it showed. That ballistic gel block did some dancing. The shock value itself would take an attacker off of their feet, literally stopping them dead in their tracks, without endangering anyone else in your home. I vote for the slug.

As a retired Chief of Police I would like to see this repeated with typical clothing in front of gel to see how rounds respond. I love Henry rifles!

Having taken a .410 #7 to the upper left arm. I can tell you I went down quick. Admittedly my adrenalin wasn't surging, I wasn't trying to due anyone harm, so I went down faster I am sure. The range was about 10 to 12 feet (just an accident between brothers lol ). It left quite a "rats nest" of a wound and my left arm was useless for a couple weeks.(It works fine now). I am not recommending or not recommending a .410 for home defense, this is just a story about what happened to me.

That slug is PERFECT for home defense. It really gives off all of it's kinetic energy on the unlucky bastard that gets hit by it and does not overpenetrate and do any damage where it's not wanted. Really awesome.
I use a .410, 3” Hornaday personal defense round in a Taurus “Judge” for impressive performance at close range.

Ballistically, the .410 slug is comparable to a .44 magnum. In a pump shotgun that’s a fantastic home defense option for almost anyone of any stature.
This test is bogus for the stated purpose. Most bad guys wear clothes, yet this test used none. I don't think the .410 is adequate. A 20ga is really the bare minimum.

Heck depending on the load, .410 can go through multiple layers of denim, then penetrate pork ribs, then get stopped in a couple layers of drywall afterwards, all while firing out of a dinky ass barrel under 5 inches. I'm not saying 20 gauge is bad for home defense, but the risk of over penetration in a home is typically quite a bit higher. Well, that's the point of hollow-point rounds. They're NOT supposed to exit.
The amount of energy it dumped at once was still surprising.
HP pistol rounds usually get twice or more penetration than that. Plus they are usually going a bit slower than 1700 fps.
@@TinkerTailorSoldier1 in fairness, lower velocity can actually result in more penetration In some cases, with hollowpoints especially. Basically the faster the bullet moves the more rapidly it deforms, if a hollowpoint bullet is not pushed fast enough to expand/fragment the way it's designed to it usually ends up just punching through the target. Likewise if you push it too fast, the bullet will just rip itself apart.
mr.Browning 7.62 that just means the manufacturer needs to look at how they produce the bullet.
@@TinkerTailorSoldier1 well It has to do a lot with the firearm you're using, specifically the barrel length. Speer gold dot is widely considered to be one of the best hollow point loadings, and I have seen the lighter 115 or 124 grain stuff really suffer when used in a rifle length barrel. But in a full sized handgun it performs perfectly almost every time

You're right about the adrenaline. A few months ago I went to my local range to practice. I hadn't gone for a while b/c of the lockdown and shortage of rounds lically available. Well, after a few drills at various distances with left and right hands - I reloaded and set down my sidearm. Then I took a few steps back and did about 50 jumping jacks - like my range Sergeant taught me back in my MP days. Even with my hearing protection I could hear guys in lanes around me laughing. Well I still emptied DCM albeit a bit slower. Packed up and left.
When I got to the range last week - wouldn't you know it - there were two guys doing jumping jacks!
Now it was my turn to laugh for a bit

Over the years, I was on a number of firearm incidents. One of them was a homicide inside a residence and the actor utilized a .410 with small game shot (wasn’t slug or buck). Single shot was nearly immediately fatal.
Just got the axe a few days ago. Got it for home defense, so my wife can easily use it. So little recoil, so much power.

A .410 is definitely worthy of consideration as a home defense weapon.
I bought the Henry Lever Action Axe.
It was a novelty buy at first.
Turned out to be the favorite firearm of all for everyone, particularly the ladies, to shoot.
It's fun, easy to handle, makes a decent bang sound, light recoil, and just about enough destruction to whatever target is being shot.
I never thought of it as practical.
But I installed an improved choke and patterned it at 10 and 20 yards.
With that 7 1/2 shot it at 20 yards, it could be a grouse getter for sure.

@@robinstewart6510 clothes only subtract 2-3 inches from a gel test. 3 at the absolute most. Those pellets are going over 20 inches and the fbi recommended 12-18 max. You're still at the absolute max ceiling of penetration. There are plenty of videos that show the same result, 410 is way better now with improved ammo types. I've even seen a 2.5 inch barrel judge do 18 inches in gel with buckshot. People fail to realize the power of each pellet is very similar to a 12g, but you get less of them. But most 12g pellets are .33 diameter, some 410s are .40 caliber EACH. You just get 5 pellets vs 9
@@robarmstrong5404 .. That's not what the ballistic tests show. Clothing can reduce penetration by up to 50%, thick clothing even more. To be an accurate representation, tests of this caliber need to be realistic. Plain and simple, a larger number of pellets gives you greater odds of penetrating that clothing at some point - less pellets, less.

And thats silly that you think heavy clothing provides as much resistance as 5+ inches of calibrated gel. Hahaha. Either way, less pellets means much less recoil. I can fire that 410 2x faster than a 12g. Those pellets are the diameter of a 9mm fmj. 5 is MORE than enough with 1 trigger pull. People are just mad because their dads told them 410s were weak in the 70s and they believed it. Less recoil IS power when you're slinging 300+grains every trigger pull.

About fifty five years ago a much younger version of me, definitely a country boy, went rabbit hunting with an original Savage over/under 22/410 model 24? I accidentally had a 2 1/2 inch rifled slug in the chamber as I was thinking of deer season coming soon and accidentally put the slug in my pocket along with some no 5 or 6 shot shells. I have always been a good instinct shooter and I flushed a rabbit not far from home. I shouldered the gun, fired and the rabbit exploded! Really nothing left but skin and hair. Also, about the same result!
Just look at that gel how it expanded when it got hit with that slug that's all you need to know and plus you'll never have over penetration

I mean if it's a slug, it's still bigger than many pistol rounds and if it's buck shots , it's still buck shots. If 9mm can be relied on to kill human, so can this ammo. If you have a proper stock, you also have the added benefit of having better accuracy than a pistol.
9mm isn’t a reliable man stopper. 75% of ppl shot 1x with a 9mm survive. Cops miss 80% of the rounds they fire. Not a good combo.
In terms of wound channel, four OOO buck pellets are probably a little like being shot with four 9mm or 38 ball rounds at once. Yes, that'll defend your home.
I personally intend to stick with my 20 ga. Shockwave, with 20-pellet #3 buck though.
Finally! Someone who doesn't use the same target to compare different ammo. Makes it easier to see the difference
As for when you fired the first .410 handgun 000 buck……… It’s meant for the judge/governor. It has a special shot cup that encapsulates the pellets, that pops open when the rifling spins it. You fired it out of a smoothbore long barrel shotgun. So all of the pellets stayed together. You didn’t get one pellet through, but more of a makeshift slug made of 4 pellets.

I've got the Stainless Circuit Judge. Nice little revolver rifle. Use it to go deer hunting with.
Everything I've heard says the judge is garbage... And no. The formula for momentum is mass yes velocity, have four projectiles each of roughly one quarter the mass means far far less penetration. Not to mention that a slug takes better advantage of the expanding gasses than four pellets.
@@beargillium2369 I primarily use the LC45 in my Judge, nothing against the .410 but it just doesn't quite have the punch of the .45
Also have a little bit of variety with lc45 rounds, from solid to hollow points. I have a friend who does my reloading so it helps to have some hotter loaded hollow point rounds.
I use 000 buck in my Judge and it makes a nasty situation for an intruder!
I'm not wild about this particular gun, but I am impressed with the 410 performance, it did better than I expected...
Now, I have more to explore in regards to what's offered in 410 and having fun while doing it!

John congratulations you’re the only person online I’ve ever heard that thinks about safety like going through walls. Thought this cajun was alone. I don’t need a cannon! Second nature accuracy is where it’s at for me. For me; 410 is best for home defense. Dang I like that Henry! It’s a beauty!

@@Mudbug2000 Even a 12ga. with bird shot won't over penetrate and be well contained within the walls of the house, but would have much more stopping power. A .410 still works, but regardless of what you use spread will be minimal at typical household ranges.
My only advice to people considering a shotgun for home defense is to stay away from slugs and anything larger than #4 buck. I'd also like to see the slug in this video retested, it didn't seem to penetrate very well at all.
I had an under and over 410 years ago. There was a lot to like about that gun. Easy to shoot and affordable. Solids were only accurate over relatively short distance but they could do plenty of damage. Two of them were more than enough to stop any danger, man or beast.

I knew they all would work. I was embalming someone once that was shot with birdshot, and the little pellets were falling out on the table the whole time I was working on him. However, I am most impressed with the performance of that little slug. I do keep a 12 gauge loaded in handy at home with triple OOO buckshot.
It's great to see two of my favorite "entities" working together. I'm a big fan of .22 Plinkster and a big fan and customer of Henry. This was a really cool video and should help some people learn about the .410 and it's capabilities. Too many "gun people" get way too deep into stats, etc.. What matters is what the rounds will do to an intruder.... period!! Definitely would love to see more ballistic gel videos and comparing different ammo with the gel. It's nice to see that you guys didn't cheap out on the gel like some people do. They use one block of gel for many different tests and it seems like that skews the real results. Gel is useless. Shipping gel is wasteful. Shotgun without a stock is silly... 410 for home defense is questionable.

The wife and I have a old 410 Springfield Model 410 Shotgun from the late 60s with a 28 inch Barrel now with the longer Barrel it brings up the FPS significantly plus it shoots the 3 inch shells. To be honest the 410 & 12 Gauge are the best shotguns in my opinion. They also put out defender shells that shoot 3 or 4 30cal. Discs along with 12 of the 4 shot which seems to be one of the best Dender Rounds for the 410 shotgun and if that round doesn't stop A Intruder then you're dealing with something that's not Human and you better run . LMAO
I no longer use the Federal 410 handgun 000 buck in my Henry. I noticed the front 000 ball protruded outside the plastic shell. That ball perfectly lined up with the primer of the next shell "dropped" down the magazine tube. That ammo should only be used in a handgun like the "Judge".

I checked my supply about that. Most rounds didn't protrude, and indeed some were well recessed. On the few that did protrude, a little press with a thumbnail could push it back in easily, sometimea with a tangible click.

I recall reading in the late 80s / early 90s that some of the PDs were using 20 or 28 ga. instead of 12 ga. because the 12 ga. had too much penetration. Tactical loads for shot size #4 or less were deemed effective in interior urban locations like houses, etc. because you didn't want massive shoot-through (a 9mm could shoot through drywall no problem and smash through some cinder block and the 12 ga. had some of the same issues). If you were not engaging armoured targets, even a .410 could do it and a 28 or 20 gauge would certainly do for most indoor uses.
People often worry about dropping their target (a reasonable concern) but you always have to treat any engagement in ones own home with a certain trepidation if you have family members that may be randomly located as the situation arises. Now, admittedly, enough layers of even mundane nature can slow and vastly attrit the power in pistol and shotgun projectiles. I recall reading about fights in the Chosin Reservoir where Marines using M-1 or M-2 carbines were dumping an entire magazine into an oncoming Chicom soldier because their multi-layered padded winter coats and underlayers would mean you had to really hit the target a lot of times to stop them.
But that's an extreme. Unless I had reason to suspect armoured hostiles, I would not want to use an M-4 or any other form of AR in my house. The odds of the round carrying on out into the neighborhood is pretty significant.
And as an old sensei used to say jokingly "Guns are noisy and tend to wake up the neighbours and they can be dangerous if you don't know weapons retention skills when confronted by a skilled opponent. And a sword can be faster and at least as lethal at 3-6 feet (longer with a deep lunge)." Of course, that omitted the screaming from the run-through assailant which kind of negates the silence of the blade itself... but at any rate, in the right situation, a knife or sword or even a pry bar could be as useful as a firearm.
So #4 birdshot is somewhere in between a spicy taser and buckshot
To answer the title question: I have yet to meet anyone who volunteered to get shot with any .410 shell.

Any gun is better than no gun. And remember,.....an unloaded gun is just a club,....... and a short one at that.

My home defense weapon is a 3-shot, bolt action Montgomery Ward .410. loaded with #6 squirrel shot. At short range it's got plenty of stopping power. I also have a 9mm auto and a 12 gauge pistol grip but consider those overkill indoors. My neighbor has a .357 revolver for home defense that I'm sure would burst his eardrums if fired indoors.
Must be terrifying to live in fear all the time.

Growing up in the middle of nowhere, no phone, neighbors, or even a street light at night. My younger brother and I lived with dad in his cabin. From the age of 9 till grown, we stayed alone at nights as dad worked nights. Protection? Winchester 5 shot 12ga. Pump., and a 8mm German model 98.
Dad warned people to stay away.
Dad was a drill Sargent before ww2, and was in the war from Africa to Berlin. Only 3 of over a 1,000 men out of his outfit to come home alive.
He taught us to handle a gun from an early age. 1st rule, always treat a gun as if loaded. More unloaded guns kill people every year. 2 and this is just as important as rule one, never point a gun at somebody unless your going to shoot them. Scare no one by pointing a gun at them. If you dumb enough to point a gun at me, loaded or not, and you don't kill me, I will be back and will kill you!!! Got it!!! This is not a threat, it's fact!!!

Good point. I was hit in the lip by a ricochet #6 pellet when someone shot at a tree. I wasn’t aware they were going to shoot. Didn’t break the skin but I had a fat lip and it hurt like hell. I was lucky it didn’t hit my eye. I should’ve hit the guy who fired the shot but I didn’t. Maybe buttstroked him in the mouth with my 12 gauge.

Great video! Overall just seeing what .410, 7 shot would do through slug is conformation for me that all of it will do the job. For home defense, the slug is less likely to travel much past its first contact.

You must not know much about guns. They rarely use a 410 for squirrel, a human is around deer size. Who uses a 410 for deer? A ar pistol is rifle caliber stopping power with short barrel so easy to go around corners. To be honest a pistol in a hot 9mm or hot 45 beats a 410 for home defense. A ar pistol just makes sure you are never outgunned in a issue where your family may be at risk.
@@mverick160 I know a lot about guns (I have sold them, was a gun smith, and worked in law enforcement), and although I agree with you about a AR being a more versatile weapon and a good man stopper, there are a lot of scenarios where this could potentially work better.
For starters, some people live in states that are not AR friendly, like California. Yes I know they have "featureless" ARs, but how long until the liberals there change the law to cover that too and then you have to sell your AR?
Some people might just prefer getting something like this knowing that it will likely never have liberals ban it. For a person who is not very familiar with firearms, and does not practice much, I think a shot gun is one of the best self defense weapons there is. It doesn't require a person to be very skilled in aiming like an AR does. Plus even a teenager, woman or elderly person can shoot a .410 because they don't have much recoil.
Lastly, if you live in a apartment (like millions of Americans do), have family members in other rooms in your home, or even live in a neighborhood with houses closes together, an AR will penetrate through MANY walls of sheet rock and is a potential hazard. I would feel far safer recommending a shotgun to someone for home defense.
You have to remember, the diameter of the barrel is .410, that means when you are firing that buck shot from the shell, that is like firing four rounds of .40 cal FMJ from a pistol all at once. If you think that can't kill a human, you are sadly mistaken. Now it is essential that for this .410 to be effective, they use the buckshot, as the slug and bird shot did not penetrate enough to be effective by FBI standards. However, I personally think the Winchester 2.5" defense rounds that have 3 "defense disks" and 12 smaller buck shot BBs all in one shell, would be even a better round for this weapon for self defense.
I have hunted with my marlin 30-30 lever action for almost 30 years now. So when I got the Henry little axe it felt natural to me for home defence where my main rifle wasn't ideal.
Loaded with Winchester PDX1 Defenders , replaced the cut off buttstock and put a polymer full size back on it , added a tac light to the front and a side saddle to hold extra rounds.
Its light , easy to still use with one hand, but with the more natural feeling option to shoulder aim. And holds enough rounds on it to feel safe as a truck gun on long trips .
Not being able to shoulder it - is a deal breaker for me. Even a short length of pull (youth model shotguns) are way better than no stock at all. I've never considered the .410 inadequate.

Truth be known. That's about perfect with the slug. It's causing enough damage to stop them in their tracks, while not passing threw them to the neighbors house. Plus there's something not many people mention. If you fire a gun inside your home, its gonna suck if that gun is really loud. Fire a 12 gauge inside your home, your ears will be ringing for quite a while. I doubt you'll have time to find hearing protection.
The TSS loads would be interesting in gel considering stories of turkey kills at extra long ranges.While real expensive these tungsten loads may be worth it for two leg critters other than turkeys.
You know I've only ever been interested in the Henry 410 X gun. With this video I might be interested in ax gun in 410 or exactly as you described it as a home defense gun.
I went back and forth trying to decide between those 2 also. I ended up with the Model X because it has the potential of a more sturdy base with the stock to brace against me, and because I can easily mount a light on it, and because if I didn't make a decision soon, I'd never make a decision! I'm still trying to find some shells for it, though. The biggest reason for me was to buy American-made with my government stimulus check. (Note: It's my first long gun and I'm a novice gun-owner of advanced age, so, factor that in to your decision, too, and best of luck with your choice.)
@@avlisk oh I've made my choice. I am definitely buying the 410 X gun when I can afford it. The only reason that the ax handle 410 would be another good home defense option for me is because corner to corner my living room is probably 10 to 15 feet maybe a little bit more. And my house is equally as small and all its proportions which would mean clearing corners would be easier with either a handgun or a very very very short shotgun. Actually the best gun I can probably get to clear corners in my house would be the judge or the jury however I am located in the People's Republic of California😕.

I once lived in Long Beach, once in West LA, once in Tustin, and even in Massachusetts, but I escaped to the free state of Arizona many years ago when it started getting bad in those other states. I thought about the 410 handguns, too, but it was "made in the USA or not made at all" that was the ultimate deciding factor. I love the look of the ax, and almost chose it.

That being said, I would love a Henry for my main home defense arm. I have my Bond Arms with 45/410 barrels. In fact, I want a Henry SO much! Those are heirloom items.
A 410 is totally a perfect home defence weapon that will take out any intruder that gets in .
I've always wished Henry would make a repeater utilizing the Rem .221 fireball cartridge. The marriage of those ballistics with the Henry action, in my mind is capable of replacing most calibres between .22-.44

Research UA-cam and I think you'll find demo's showing hollow points becoming plugged with drywall, as an example, an taking on characteristics of a Ball round !
I believe Hornady developed a synthetic tipped plug, that helps with this issue !

Love my Henrys and I have always used a 410 for all my hunting and home defense!!! Remember it is a 41 cal rifle from the old days. I have only owned a 20g and never a 12. Also a shotgun for home defense is not practical, the Axe is fair but still a little long, you should use a pistol and if you want a shotgun, use a Judge or the Bond arms. Also I wish Henry would chamber this in a 3" shell. Thanks.
If the slug wasn't a hollow point I think it would have passed through an entire gel block without all that energy just at the entry point but that would actually be a more dangerous round to use in the house if it passed through the intruder and hit something or someone beyond your target. I think I would either use the #6 shot or the hollow point slug
Yes, a .410 is adequate for home defense. In fact, it’s ideal for home defense, particularly so because recoil is light and the weapon can be handled by virtually any member of the family, if needed. I’ve often gotten in arguments with people about home defense scenarios, and it rarely seems to occur to people that if you are faced with the possibility of having to discharge a firearm in a residence, it will likely be at night, and your walls will likely be thin. Distances will be relatively short, as the host mentions, 18 feet is pretty much the furthest distance it would be possible to shoot in my house and the houses of many other people, and at that distance, even a wide open choke isn’t going to produce enough shot spread that aiming isn’t required.
One other reason. 12 ga flash at night will blind you. .410 is better and preferred by special forces. Cant blame them. Weighs less in bulk than a 12 ga.
Easier on the ears too. For those who have not fired a 12 gage inside, you've never experienced ringing ears like that.
I don't know if I'd try to use it for home defense, but I just got a Henry Axe for my birthday and it's BADASS!

Very good test, .410 would do the job from what I see and glad because I carry a Bond Arms grizzley for a second carry pistol, and have .410 self defense rounds loaded in it. Like I always say any gun is better than no gun.👍

Who exactly is raiding your home with body armor and multiple assailants? This firearm definitely was not meant to take out a tactical strike team, but then it was never designed for that- and honestly with anyone that well organized the concern seems like it’d be much more about surveillance and surprise rather than what arsenal, no?
These test seem to leave out the adrenaline and meth. That may skew the results.

I've always enjoyed your videos, and this one is no exception. I think the OOO round is intended for the S&W Governor and Taurus Judge revolvers and not for shotguns, due to the overpenetration with longer barrels.

I was hoping that was one of the rounds they would have tested. That's the rounds I bought when I bought mine. The 1 slugand 2 ball bearings in it keep about a 3ft group at 100 yards, but I'm curious as to what it does at 10-15 feet to a 'body'.

You can't use the choke with the Triple defense round. It's essentially 3 slugs and would like cause some sort of failure according to the message I received in response to my query with Henry.

You never want the round to exit the body otherwise the body hasn't absorbed all the energy. One of the big problems with the 9 mm. You don't want an exit wound you want the energy absorbed by the body

Uh if that intruder has ANY sort body armor(which I can easily assume since you can get that easily anywhere these days) you're gonna wish you had at least a 20ga slug to at least knock the guy down, or my preference, a heavy 12ga birdshot load and hope enough go though the guys neck and face to put him out of action quickly (while still hopefully negating too much damage to any neighbors). Just admit you all think this gun looks cool, and could be a fun plinker, but is it suited to home defense? Maybe? For a kid? I don't know.

But personally id prefer my 28 inch barrel with extrafull choke shotgun and 4 shot . have fun getting a 3 inch hole Drilled into you. Ive shot a metal bucket before with a 20 guage at about 15-20 feet and the hole equivalent in a human would be unsavable in 5 minutes lol. 410s are cute and id love one in a side by side for dove hunting but I dont think id even want to take it into grouse country and all we have is black bear and cougar but still not all too comfortable with it
.410's are a lot deadlier than most people give credit. A junior high schoolmate back in the 70's nearly died when accidentally shot with a .410 while rabbit hunting, and that was with bird shot. He was out of school for several months. Extreme cold temperatures and the grace of God is what saved his life. .410's are light and extremely accurate at close range and can easily be handled by most anyone in the household.
