      There are some Winchester Repros. Unfortunately, a few crappy reviews on youtube took it straight out of the box without breaking it in, and said it doesnt cycle well.
      Cant speak to their quality because of the sheer mass of reviews who made this mistske

    Its nice to watch a review where you work the action with the rifle still on the shoulder. Drives me nuts seeing people lower the firearm every time they work a lever or bolt. One of my fave gun review channels!

    I am a big fan of 410. It was one of the first shotguns I ever shot. The buck shot makes for a decent home defense loading.

    After much research, I chose this firearm as my gun of choice out in the field for a day of sporting fun. Also for personal protection when out camping or hiking in the backwoods. This gun is accurate enough for hitting steel targets at a distance of 25 or 30 yards with defense loads or slugs. It’s very good for shooting clays as well. Aside from the heavy recoil of a 12 gauge, a 50 caliber 12 gauge slug is just very brutal on a piece of steel even at 50 yards with open sights. If you’re into sport shooting as I am, this gun is much more appropriate than a 12 gauge what should be for obvious reasons.

    I've never wanted a .410 but, I've always carried a lever action as a saddle gun so, this might be fun during bird season.

    Keep in mind, if you are watching this in the future like me, this is the old 20 inch Henry, which has been discontinued. There is a new version which has a side loading gate so you can top off without having to pull out the tube every time. Otherwise I believe it is the same.

  • @hammond2600
    @hammond2600 6 років тому +19

    I love everything about the 410 except for the ammo price. It's often more than double that of 12 or 20 ga. The shotguns are more expensive in most cases too. You can take 2 of the same brand, same model shotguns, one 410 and one 12 ga. and the 410 price will be significantly higher.

    • @Aussie50

      yeah a friend of mine had one and it was okay, not much use as a shotgun and not much better with slugs or 45LC , nor was the 22 mag version, loads of cylinder blast, could not shoot it with bare arms it just peppered you., just not all that good of a gun.

Most people cant and wont learn to shoot well enough to use the gun in the first place and lots of people never even give it a fair chance in the first place .they are to macho for such a little gun!!

      Jim Lacefield ah I read that wrong

    • @ChristianThePagan
      @ChristianThePagan 6 років тому +1

      WCGwkf I know that but a shotgun can do things a 22 cannot. You can pick a 12 gauge but it is heavier than a 22 and you can carry 100 rounds or more of 22 for the weight of a dozen 12 gauge shells. With a 410 you can also carry considerably more ammo for the same weight as a dozen 12 gauge shells, the gun is way lighter and you can choose from a wide variety of specialist ammo whereas a 22 is a one trick pony in that regard. This thing is not much heavier than the 22 version, significantly lighter than a 12 gauge and with slugs and buckshot it can take larger prey than a 22, so colour me interested. Where I live this would be a perfect gun for extended trips into the outback.

    Just in case somebody's planning on buying one of these remember that there IS a little bit of recoil,...as you can see from the slo-mo section there at the 45 second mark...maybe like a 30-30.

      i was about to say the same, 410 is still pretty peppy. a friend of mine has a light weight take-down survival 410 and that thing HURTS when you shoot 3" shells, worse than my Mosin M44. but weight is everything, that Henry would be okay since its probably more than double the weight of the survival 410.

      Yes, Aussie50, 'funny' that you would mention the lighter weight .410,..I have one too,...and I can assure anyone else who may not be used to them,..that they do indeed let you know you're fired one. That's a good comparison too with the Mosin Nagant.

    This brings me back to when my old dad was still around. I shot my first shotgun with him it was an old break barrel 410 single load, really fun and I enjoyed working the action and reloading each round. It was nice and heavy which made it almost bio recoil. Thanks for your service to our country. My dad was a marine. Once a marine always a marine.

    I don't have one, but looks like a good home defense gun. Can you get short rounds so as to not over penetrate sheet rock wall

    At 3:33 you said it was a 6 shot (5+1), but in the opening - you made 7 shots without reloading.

    Im a big bore and shotgun guy. i love 12 gauge 3" and 3.5" magnums, and 45-70s. But ill tell ya, a .410 slug or some of those Fed. #3 bucks theyll do some lethal things and with literally no recoil. A .410 is no joke, but no caliber is a joke honestly. Take care!

      @Justin Lehman Thirding. I'd love to get a better idea on how stuff like this would perform both for defense, but also for hunting. Like how deep can you expect a .410 slug to penetrate?

      @@rangefinderz5135 I get the hunch that the PDX load won't be as good as a stoutly loaded slug anyway, I've heard such a load from a proper length .410 Bore shotgun (as opposed to the Judge's short and oversized bore) is supposed to compare in energy to a .41 Magnum revolver, which is not shabby at all.

      Using some of that 000 Buck, or the Winchester PDX, I figure it wouldn't be bad. Like, two shots center mass, that'll count for something.

    VIDEO IDEA: AR pistol comparisons would be a fun topic. They seem to be more popular with all the new braces out. How about a comparison of different barrel lengths and/ or manufacturers. It would be cool to see the difference between a $400 PSA AR pistol vs a $2300 Q honey badger. Also different calibers .556/ 300 BO.

    I read through the comments and have to wonder. A 12 or 20 Guage would have an enormous receiver and if you want to shoot 45 Colts there are several lever guns that safely handle that cartridge.

    Back in the 60's my cousin had a neat lever 410 shotgun. It wasn't to heavy had a shotgun barrel with a bead. I never found a modern version that works. Henry got some things better then modern Marlin and Win.. First a shotgun needs a bead, well one version does. A slug version makes no sense what are you going to shoot with a 410 slug smooth bore shotgun, it also is cylinder bore a 410 needs a little choke. The longer barrel version has a bead and changeable chokes but in a barrel made from a rifle barrel. This makes the gun heavy who needs a 7.5 pound 410. Then retailing a nearly $1000, few people are willing to spend that much. If they would make a youth carbine version with the 20" barrel, bead, changeable choke and shorter birch stock, to reduce weight. If you could get the gun below six pounds and around $500 it would sell. For nearly a $1000 they could of designed a real lever shotgun not just convert a heavy 45-70 into a cumbersome imitation of a great old gun. Don't get me wrong I like Henry they make a great 22 cal lever gun though I think if they were designing it today it would be based on their 30-30 and weight seven pounds.
