*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.
Thank you for giving me your time.*

As always, an amazing and honest video. I was anorexic as a teenager and became a fitness instructor, registered dietitian and personal trainer for 28 years. Although I gave my clients and group fitness members sound advice, I was struggling mentally but looked healthy physically. After all that time, I decided to leave the industry and become a Respiratory Therapist. I have a home gym, and while that doesn't provide me with all of the equipment of a gym, it has changed my mood etc. I am 57 now and overall feel better about myself and my health. Again, I so appreciate you, Shredded Sports Science and Justine Ercole for speaking the truth!!

Thank you so much for this video, Harry. I track my food and I think it's really helped me become more mindful of what I'm eating. But I did notice that there are times that I obsess over the small things a little too much. It was a lot worse when I started but thanks to creators like you I've become a lot more relaxed with my tracking. Still, some of those old habits do come back and your video just reminded me that while tracking has mostly helped me, I really should work on eventually letting this go. I'm still uncomfortable with how inaccurate I eyeball my serving sizes but I'm going to use tracking as a learning tool on where my body responds best. But that's just it - it's a learning tool that I will work to graduate from.

I really appreciate your perspective because you just give info without shoulds or shouldn't, and you don't talk about what people should or shouldn't look like in general unless it's like a specific reason.
I used to think it was impossible to have disordered eating if you weren't wildly under or overweight.
When you mentioned being 500 under maintenance just to be safe or calories to determine your worth, I literally stopped and thought What type of magic let you in my head? 😂Just hearing it out loud, I realised. Yeah probably not the healthiest mindset 😢 Especially as a very uncoordinated, nonathletic person.
But you can have these beliefs or not eating to hurt or punish yourself without realising you're doing it or maybe not all the time. It does help to hear it out loud, though.
    Thanks ❤

Great topic to talk about. I used to fall into the trap of eating less and less and I think it was because of content I was consuming at that time. It's worth to mention that only you know what your body needs and only you know how to take care of your body to perform and feel the best. Right now I am eating intuitively and I am starting to feel my best again. Thank you, Harry, for another educational video as always.

I spent a couple years attaching personal value to both my weight and to my caloric intake. I wouldn't miss a caloric target by more than about 100 if I could in any possible way help it. And it was nightmarish in many ways. I will support and promote any person working to help others either avoid or move past such a struggle in their lives.

Very interesting. I was talking to my therapist yesterday and said I didn't like the restaurant hubby and I went to because I was still hungry and when my hubby asked for bread the manager or whoever he was said they don't put bread on the table to keep the calories down that people need to ask. I told her his remark was triggering for me and I wish they didn't even put calorie counts on menus. My therapist said I need to get out of the house and not to isolate because that doesn't do me much good so now I need to address with her that I have another reason for not going out of the house that I worry about my calorie counts going over and ruining my workouts.

love this video! i am 5'2 and 55kg but eat 3400-3500 just maintaining, which is quite high according to my size, and this is probably due to genetics, higher muscle mass and activity level.
However, people assume all i do is exercise all day in order to eat such a large quantity of food because i post fitness content, but the truth is i 'exercise' about an hour a day. I have a sedentary job which means i spend large amounts of time sitting and staring at a screen.

I mean… Bodybuilding IS a coached eating disorder. I love bodybuilding, but at what cost?
If u can‘t make a living out of it, it‘s not worth it.
Also that performance oriented eating…. I don‘t do that anymore.

I remember not being able to get above 120 lbs. I'm 5'7, female, naturally on the lean side. Grew up relatively malnourished with all sorts of gut issues. I started weight lifting, started eating high protein and high fats, fell off weight lifting, kept eating, and got to 146 lbs. I felt very welcome to the fitness community, followed all sorts of influencers and was genuinely enthused. But I was heavy, bloated, just not in my most natural healthy state. Worried about growing a booty and abs, quickly starting to obsess and compare. I felt like I was in this rat race. I was dressing more immodestly in the gym, my posts on social media felt ingenuine, and at the end of the day I was never satisfied. So I'm counting calories for the first time, fasting 16/8, and eating oriented around a Meditteranean diet. I cancelled my gym membership I fell out of love with, and have been walking over 10k steps a day. I'm losing weight quickly and while I'm concious of obsession, I'm also sort of relying on it in a healthy sense. While disordered eating is very real, if you put your head down and focus on yourself, don't make up a plan B and be patient, you can achieve your goals. No distractions. I wan't to be healthy, so I'm focusing on diet first and movement next. Sometimes I think I was distracting myself by worrying about disordered eating or playing with the idea of intentionally approaching it from and unhealthy angle, which I don't think is discussed enough. Semantics and associated words play a large role in how we subconciously approach things, including weight loss (weight loss=obsession/ED, muscle gain=hustle culture, infuencers, vanity). I'm noticing how much in America the fitness culture and industry is so so based on profit. Think about other countries where people live the longest (blue zones), these people probably aren't walking around with dump trucks or perfectly sculpted biceps. They just eat well and they are busy. Muscle definition doesn't necessarily equate to health, as pointed out in this video. And especially in my opinion, for women and hormonal balance. Great video, happy it was on my feed.

Did the Mediterranean type diet help bloating?

    • @teakik2685
      @teakik2685 11 місяців тому

@@avacx yes, significantly. I think fasting 16:8 as well. In terms of meditteranean, I'm eating much more fiber and much less sugar. Much more water and less meat-centric dishes. In terms of fasting, I eat more consistently believe it or not now, where as before my stomach was basically trying to digest nothing when I would wait too long to eat in between meals, which created painful bloating.
