*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.
Thank you for giving me your time.*

Hello everyone! I actually tried cutting sugar to see how it affected my mood. I have bipolar disorder and am very sensitive to mood fluctuations. To be honest, my mood was very level when not consuming sugar. I believe it was because I didn't reach insulin thresholds (almost all of my family have diabetes which I'm trying to prevent), and thus never experienced crashes. After a couple weeks, I didn't have cravings. I have since reintroduced some sugar (was celebrating a birthday and consumed cake, which was delicious) and absolutely believe in moderation. I found that totally denying all treats wasn't necessary for me- of course every one is different- but it did teach me how to better balance my diet. Great video Harry. You gotta love a guy who has cats! 🐈

I’ve cut out refined sugar from my diet since april, i have ptsd, anxiety/panic disorder and depressive disorder. It helped me feel less tired and more stable as well. I do have sugar from time to time whenever i really want something which is usually once every 7-10 days :)

Being more conscious of my blood sugar levels has improved my mood (I thought I had PMDD) and I don't get brain fog anymore. Lost a couple pounds too as a side benefit. I followed the Glucose Goddess diet (savoury breakfast, eat veggies first, 1 spoon of apple cider vinegar before my most carb heavy meal, and at least 10 minutes of exercise within 90 minutes of one of my meals). Its helped tremendously.
I also find ensuring I get enough iron from my diet extremely important for mood.

Same, and I believe the reason is also inflammation. "The Inflamed Mind" suggests that depression is inflammation. Inflammation is there to heal, and stress hormones are definitely damaging to the body.

Completely disagree. I got myself OUT of ED for life n been on XXS-XS for LONG time when I used to be like dangerously M-L (for me being 5’3”). I eat wathever i want. I do NOT get fat, i can eat cake n ice cream I won’t get fat. Cuz i am OUT of ED. Ppl have sugar isssue has bigger worry ,,cuz its the Metabolsim issue.
Models who do not eat, their body is starv for sugar. Yes if they eat sugar, since they have--insuline resistance. The body stop metabolizing sugar, it will PUT MUCH Larger Stack of Sugar convert to FAT when partially using it. Ppl have NO insulin resistance they will use 100% of that sugar before dip into using fat. They wont do d “partial use/ partial store” thing. 😮

The way I snort-laughed when you pointed out having BPD is the reason for your mental health being low vs sugar! 😂 Not that a BPD diagnosis is funny, just that I’m also neurodivergent and this was SO RELATABLE. I always want to say “Thank not-a-doctor, for your totally scientifically unsound and unsolicited opinion!”

A lot of people talk about moderation like any idiot should be able to do it. But honestly for whatever reason, whether mental health or who knows, I find it really hard. I know my diet is awful, and I am out of shape,, but any time I try to work on it, I just cut out everything. And it's actually easy to follow something strict but only for so long. And it's this vicious cycle. And I still look and eat like crap, I just beat myself up about it on top of it all. But I honestly really appreciate how you explain things on a macro level, so I don't get stuck in the weeds. And it's the only time it has made sense to me ❤

    • @brittanymarciniak5078
      @brittanymarciniak5078 11 місяців тому +1

Hey Lauren. It is for sure difficult to do things in moderation. For me, it's a goal, and one that is not always reached. Plus, I am such a perfectionist that I feel badly when I don't meet the goal. One thing I've started to do is formulate bite-sized goals that are more achievable. I wonder if that might help. The more successes you have, the better you might feel about yourself. Also, it's okay to be in a place where you say, "I'm not in a place to work on that goal right now, and I'm not a bad person for that. I'll come back to it when I'm ready." Acknowledging that is also a form of self-care because you're allowing yourself to exist in whatever space you are in- even if it's a crappy place- and that is a form of strength.

    • @laurengarcia1023
      @laurengarcia1023 11 місяців тому

@@brittanymarciniak5078 That actually really helped a lot. I know the intermittent fasting thing works for some, but it has really messed me up. It was a literal restrict/binge cycle every day. So I'm miserable but still probably didn't lose. Well the next day, I'll just restrict more. And anyway, not good. I feel like it's not fair to be so miserable from not eating all day and still be fat 😂
But I think taking a step back and working on small things is good and maybe like getting more protein and fiber (because I have the sweet tastebuds of a 5 year old);and focus on getting stronger instead of the more negative ones like just lose, lose and cut out foods or meals because I think maybe I should but it ends up worse in the long term. I just can't do it and maybe that's not awful because I know that will just start everything to go more negative. Anyway thank you for being so nice.

Great message! I think it’s fine to talk about doing something, like cutting out sugar, as long as the person is doing it for themselves. I don’t like seeing influencers making everything into a challenge, because no two people have the exact same nutrition needs. At some point it is just a marketing tactic for clicks.

Great advice! I loved how you said that cutting something out of your diet completely in an instant is probably going to backfire. That is so true. What I have noticed myself is that if I am craving something but not getting it, I am overeating other stuff. Like I really want bread with chocolate spread for breakfast, but I can't have it, so the whole grain bread with cottage cheese isn't very satisfying for me, which subconsciously makes me eat more in hopes to scratch my itch. So despite making the "healthier" choice I end up eating more calories than necessary.

I totally agree that it can be a slippery, slippery slope doing anything restrictive when particularly vulnerable to falling into disordered eating patterns - like you said, it can be so hard to be honest with yourself about it. Low sugar diets can be extremely beneficial, for many, improving skin, gut, mood, and energy levels - but I believe that the stress that might come from a restrictive diet change may ‘cancel out’ the potential health benefits. At first I thought you were demonising a low sugar diet but by the end of the video you had explained how one could consider whether or not they should partake, in a really insightful way.

A different perspective - For many people (me) eating sweets and processed foos is a true addiction and it’s just not possible to moderate intake. I eliminated all sweets and processed foods three years ago and for time in my life I’m a normal BMI. I don’t have to count calories. I don’t miss it in the same way I don’t miss smoking. I loved both but am happier without either in my life. I still use sugar occasionally on strawberries or in tea etc, but candy bars are out permanently.

The key is moderation :) And of course people have legitimate dietary restrictions which is valid and they should absolutely do what’s best for them; but things like sugar, carbs, and others are needed! It’s not only okay, it’s encouraged to still have them, you don’t need to restrict yourself❤

A few years back I learned from an influencer that vegetable oils (and all unsaturated fats) will lower your metabolism and you have to avoid them completely or you’ll never lose weight. I started having irrational thoughts, eventually I developed an eating disorder.
Too much of anything is bad, it’s not the end of the world if the protein bar you just ate contained Linoleic acid.
It’s 2023 and I finally started dieting again, but this time I’m mostly only focused on eating in a deficit while adding a bit more healthy options.

Back when I was in my early twenties staying thin was really easy for me. I don't know if it is my metabolism that changed or just a different set weight. Now that I'm thirty it is a whole different challenge. If I had made a video about "how to stay lean" back then my advise would have probably not been very beneficial for many people. I keep that in mind whenever one of these types of videos pops up from influencers, models etc. Do they really have the life experience to know what they are talking about?

her last name Vloet the oe is pronounced as the o in who, or like the oohoo from an owl. hope this helps!
iam trying to reduce my chips intake, what is very hard because my bf got a eating disorder and hardly eats anything but does eat chips.
Its an eating disorder called ARFID so its not that he is obsessive with his physique or something.
so they are always in stock and hard to keep away from them, for me its adding up the calories XD
iam not trying to avoide it but it came to a point i eat 1 complete bag or even 2 a day, and thats not healthy. and since iam recovering from a burn out iam at home most of the time.
Iam trying to at least cut it down to every other day. But i hope i can take it down to 1ce a week without insanly graving it every day.
But eating like a bag a day for over 5/6 months it became a habit and an addiction and now its hard to find the right balance
its weird because i never ate that much chips in my life, or had the gravings for them but its insane to see how these kind of foods works.

I like Sanne and she seems like a nice person but she’s very much into jumping on trends, she was all about plant based years ago when that was trendy. As much as I find Abbey Sharp problematic at times, I do like her approach to nutrition of focusing on adding stuff in rather than taking away. It takes away from the restrictive mindset. If adding some sauce with a bit of sugar in it gets people eating more veggies etc I think that’s a better strategy than just cutting it out completely.

I have pcos and should therefore minimize my intake of processed foods and *added* sugars, due to insulin response being ass, but I still do it sometimes. As you say, moderation is key, unless the doctor says otherwise.
People just don't know what moderation is, the proliferation of good knowledge versus bs influencer rhetoric is sadly skewed to the latter, so it's easier for people to latch on to something that is easy to understand and relate to = NO sugar over moderate sugar. Specifically for sugar though, a lot of people equate sugar to carbs flat out, that is a huge mistake.

I have issues with binging and I've found replacements vs cutting out/deprivation to work for most things. For example I was a Pepsi addict, but now I drink Pepsi Zero instead. @@lizziewalker7844 it's a mix of a lot. She is at a weight that is below what the medical community would consider healthy which in my brain makes me think that I should be able to be that thin if I just tried hard enough. A lot of the food she makes is extremely low in calories so it sets off this like thing in my head that's like oh if I eat like that I can get super thin (I'm vegan but there are plenty of swaps I can make). There's also this general vibe of "wellness". For me this translates into oh I'm just doing this for "wellness". I'm not hurting myself, this is good for me actually.
The fact is, I easily maintain a healthy weight/bmi and there's absolutely no reason for me to try to get super thin like that. I'm still recovering from my last attempt and still trying to get my period back. But I had to be honest with myself and realize that I can't expose myself to content that triggers my dumb brain.
My personal opinion is that she has an eating disorder and a lot of people use her content to fuel their eating disorder. This is just my opinion from my experience. I don't think she's maliciously putting content out there of course but it seems clear to me that she's making money off of this content so she's incentivized to continue. People are complicated.

@@TheMrsarahanne90 I agree, orthorexia maybe? It’s so tiring constantly trying to optimise food for health but she’s making money from it as you said. I feel bad for those younger viewers who may think this is the only way to enjoy food. She probably doesn’t think her content could be harmful in any way but it is.
Good that you know to protect yourself from these triggers, it’s all too easy to fall into the traps online.

can someone tell me if the tfnl home workout guide is worth it? unfortunately even with a sale it's about the same cost as a weeks groceries for me (which I am totally prepared to spend btw but just want to be 100% sure before i commit to that lol) so I just want to be sure it's something valuable that I cant just find for free! I would appreciate any input 🙏🙏

Cutting out sugar and refined carbs has changed my life. Lost some weight, mood stable, more energy, etc. For me sugar kinda is the devil. I'm glad others can enjoy it and not have ill effects but I'm never going back after feeling this good.

Sanne seems like a nice person and genuinely enjoys cooking but she does maintain that model figure and let’s face it glam lifestyle most of us will never have. I’m older than she is so feel like I should know better but I did watch her videos and use her app for a while. Seeing that type of content doesn’t help my self esteem especially in recovery from the diet mindset and binging. Maybe if she was only a cook and fitness instructor it would be ok. She can do whatever she wants but I don’t feel like I can watch it anymore as I try to let go of the guilt I associate with certain foods.

funnily enough my ED started off with cutting out sugar (purely for getting rid of my eczema) and I felt so good from it that it spiralled into cutting out more and more food groups until I got so weak I couldn't even wear my docs anymore because they were too heavy for me to walk in... I can understand that she's probably coming from good intent but these kind of cutting x out of your diet challenges really can be dangerous for some people, I wish it was more normalised to just eat in a way that works for you and in moderation without such strict rules

Thank you for this comment! I hope you are doing better! I made my own comment about cutting sugar and feeling better but did not mention that I became compulsive with exercising if I "slipped" up. I was sometimes working out 5 times a day, making something I loved- fitness- a punishment. I have since backed off and enjoy treats in moderation and made fitness a love again. ❤️

Hmm I do have to disagree a bit about sugar, studies have shown the negative effect of it, and people with psychological conditions often benefit a lot from quitting sugar consumption. I personally don't consume sugar except for fruits (whole fruits) and the natural lactose in yoghurt etc. Feeling great, not have a thought of restriction because it's a voluntary decision for me. While sugar is not evil, it fuels funghi and other dysfunctional stuff building up in the body, and it certainly is not good. Just my personal pov

exactly. Added sugar does nothing good for us. There's nothing to "quit" or to feel restricted. Our body never needed it, so there's nothing to miss. The cravings are just the addiction.

I have a different perspective: sugar as in white sugar is not a food group, therefore it does not have to be included in your daily food intake, the same goes for alcohol: not a food group. ❤
