I bought a 2023 Sport 4x4. Had it for 2 days and did a crazy thing. I didn’t like the driving experience and decided to test drive the new 2024. Man I decided to trade in the 2 days purchase and got the new 2024. The driving has no hesitation, no stiffness bumping and it’s so smooth. I mean I don’t know If I got a bad lemon with that 2023 but it is incomparable how better driving is the 2024. Some inputs will help me understand what happened but I did that and felt a relief after.
my biggest pet peeve with 4th gen is the smaller gas tank, and the price hikes. i passed and bought a Pro4X and get 21.7 combined over 2300 miles so far.
I feel Nissan will definitely be stealing Tacoma buyers people truly want a naturally aspirated V6 not a turbo 4 banger. Those newer Frontiers are sweet looking . I have a paid off 22 Tacoma that I will probably keep a long time. If I was in the market for a new midsized truck I would probably buy a Frontier.
I have no regrets buying my new 2024 Tacoma TRD sport 8 speed automatic. Much more pep than that old-school v6. I get looks and compliments on it often.
Totally agree with your pet peeves on the lack of rear storage seat availability in the 4th Gen. Don’t know about the long-term reliability of the 4 banger but time will tell. Gonna stay with my 2022 PRO for the long term. 👏🏻👍🏻
I got the trd sport 6 speed manual with the smaller screen. So far I’ve been able to get about 24 mpg on the interstate and about 21 mpg combined. This vehicle is my dream truck. I love it in all ways with only a few minor annoyance - notably the back seat not being roomy enough.
TRD Sport with the manual is a tremendous combination. My foot must have a slightly higher lead level than yours bkraft 😅. Congrats on the truck and I’m glad you love it!
That engine sound is legit music to my ear , and that turbo spool. None of that on the 3rd gen. I have the automatic and transmission is butter and yes you are correct steering is deff precise and great road feel.. trd sports here with automatic seats heated and other options.. very happy owner.. congrats on your 24 taco. 👍🏼
The only thing I liked about the '24 Taco is the exterior look. The uncertainty of the new 4 turbo , the cheap interior experience, and the price was why I bought the '24 Runner. The interior in the 4 Runner is much better and feels more "luxurious" with the premium package and at the same price of the Tacos, plus you get a V6.
None of the things you mentioned that bother you bother me at all. I’m getting 21.5 combined MPG so far at 1800 miles. Love everything about my 2024 Tacoma TDF Off-road.
I am enjoying your reviews I just picked mine up yesterday also white with the manual but I got the smaller screen which is fine with me. Do you ever feel a vibration in your pedal when the clutch is engaged down shifting to second? Thanks keep up the great content
That would be great man. Like I said I notice when the radio is off. Now that I just got home from work it's like I feel a grind in my foot when the clutch is engaged and just down shifted to 2nd. It's prob the way it's suppose to me but just doesn't feel right. Thanks again
What lets me down is the obvious stuff...price and no V-6. Of course, I also think it should be getting low 20s in combined mpg. For me, the sound of the engine isn't important. I currently drive a 1997 magnum V-8 Dakota SLT. I want to get something new, but the costs are prohibitive.
Nice looking truck and some of the stuff is cool needed to be updated especially the seating position which I hate in my third GEN but to spend almost $50,000 and you don’t even get in the 20s gas mileage. It’s definitely not worth the money and we don’t know how long these turbos are gonna last and the Tacomas and the tundras Have to wait a few years to see what happens
Sadly if you lay into that turbo often expect to change that oil every 2k. There’s a price for everything and a small engine like that the routine maintenance costs are going to go up regardless on who manufacture it.
Toyota added an intercooler and oil cooler. The engine is undersquared with very low tourque peak. This engine combined with the 8 speed auto is so so much better then the last generation.
@@MoneyShift I was asking about wind noise or whistling from a bad seal or something like that. I saw you talking about it in your other video. Looks like you were talking about normal wind and tire noise. Good stuff.

My favorite part is the price. It’s a true deal at $55k. And the 4 cylinder is more powerful than most v8’s. I’d pay double. And I expect next year Toyota will ask that.
I think the interior looks like it was designed from 1980. Too many straight lines, sharp angles and I hate that HUGE "stuck on Ipad" screen. Overall, it just looks cheap. At least the Canyon made it flow with their dash.
@blackphilipalvarez1305 i have a 2017 Taco with 109k miles and i don't have any problems. I think its the cars like Tesla with seat and heat controls on the screen AKA no knobs or dials.
@@shawnn6926 this video and others have convinced to not get the 2024 model but maybe 2023 instead, I just don’t want one with alot of mileage or hopefully still have them new.
@blackphilipalvarez1305 they're not easy to find if you're not picky. When I wanted to find a used one, it had to be a gray, ext cab, TRD Sport with the cold weather package. Took me 2 months to find what I was looking for and the dealership was 6 hours away. It was a low mileage 2 year lease return.
The difference in torque between the V6 and the T4 is negligible...maybe 20 ft.lbs if that much. I have 30+ years of experience with turbo'd engines....they DON'T LAST. Squeezing more power out of an engine with a turbo stresses it more...i.e. higher cylinder pressures, higher operating temperatures. Toyota was STUPID this time. Had a great thing going and they screwed it up. I bought a 2022 Taco V6 4dr 4wd for 38k new. Same truck today is around 8K MORE. My next truck will probably a Ranger. I get about 24 mpg hwy with my V6 also.
Are you an engineer or just talking out of your backside? These are modern turbos built from the ground up. These aren’t the bolt ons you remember. Settle down, son
@@sammyjammy6647 They weren't "bolt-ons" ,and the reliablilty of those engines was far more critical than any car or truck engine. I flew general aviation airplanes with turbo'd engines for over 30 years and I can say with first hand experience that they don't last as long as normally aspirated engines. We couldn't pull over to the side of the road if they failed. We had cylinder head temp gauges, exhaust temp gauges that displayed real-time conditions and I can say that they ran considerably hotter than non-turbos, and they had higher fuel burn rates. Also, the manufacturers added intercoolers to some of them to cool them down a bit. The TBOs (Time Between Overhaul) intervals for turbo'd engines were considerably shorter than for normally aspirated engines. The advantage of turbocharging on aircraft engines was that they made about the same power at higher altitudes that they produced at lower altitudes which got us above most of the crummy weather. Optimum altitude for a non-turbo'd engine is 6 to 7,000 feet...turbo'd engines got us up to around 20,000 feet or so. Also, they used bleed air off of the turbo to pressurize the cabin. BUT it's a compromise. You get that extra power up high at the expense of shorter engine life, higher fuel flow rates, and higher hourly and overhaul costs. Plus the whole system just gets more complicated to work on. If turbocharged car and truck engines were so wonderful, they'd ALL be turbo'd. Would've liked to see them do a 4cyl turbo diesel. Imagine a Taco Turbo Diesel...the TTD. So no, I'm not an engineer, but I got my knowledge from real-world experience and learning from aircraft mechanics for 30+ years. I just hated to see Toyota "fix something that wasn't broke", and then they hike the price of them by about 8K. I hear they're having issues with the V6 Turbo Tundra too.
One good thing, after driving my v6 pentastar jeep offroad, is the low end torque coming in @1700rpms is HUGE, so much more control not having to rev up higher to get the torque out. And after owning a jeep I’m not too worried about Toyota’s turbo engine lol. Hope you find a gem tho 👍
