I've noticed that with this "Aqua Piston" mechanism (and as with most toilets), if you need more flush, simply hold the lever all the way down for a longer period. As you can see here, a simple flush doesn't evacuate all the water from the tank, but holding down the lever will. So it's like one action for "number one" and then hold it down longer for "number two".
Hi, I just bought a Koehler toilet 3 months ago, and my problem is after flushing, it just stops cold. No refilling. I turn that screw a bit counter clockwise and it refills. But why is this happening? I can then flush again & again, and it will work. Then a few days later, go to do it again, and it won’t refill again? I feel like there is something simple I can do, but can find any info. Thanks for any help!
@@SteveDeThample Thanks for replying! So the toilet flushes, and the water come out. Its’s not all the way empty in the back. Then after it flushes, the back doesn’t fill up automatically. Then when I slightly touch that screw thing in the back, it will fill up again. Thanks again!
I mean, the water doesn’t fill the toilet, or the back part. Like after the flush, there is normally that sound of water running, filling up the back of the tank. But for some reason, it isn’t doing it unless I mess with that screw. I just went up and flushed it, and it did it again.
Help! I may have same model as parts look same. Current problem, when I flush toilet, water fills up but the water inside the canister flush valve spins and spins for some time (2-3mins) and its loud. This morning, i saw water fill up to line, lowers 2 inches and fills back to line again. All the while water inside canister is spinning. Appreciate your comment on what could broken or needs adjustment.
First thing, I would check is the flush handle. Sometimes when it sticks it will hold up that tube and will continue to empty water after it fills. See if it moves freely. I have taken our handle completely apart to clean and get hard water off to fix one of ours. Then just move each part by hand to see if anything feels strange or stops it.
Thanks for your video. A question 🙋🏻♂️ where I can buy all the accessories. Inside tank. I want to replace all inside the tank. Thank you for your respond.
We have a kohler toilet. It has clogged from day one. A couple of times it was so bad, I had to use a shop vac to remove the clogged “contents.”. Since then, that toilet has been off limits for #2. I can’t wait to try this . We have sold our house, and don’t want the new owners to have this issue!
if that yellow piece at the end of the tube (that says Aquapiston) were not properly attached to the black thing, such that the refill water from that was just flowing freely into the tank, rather than down into the black cylinder ... what is the implication of that? does it matter? if not, why is it designed that way?
we have 2 Kohler K31615 toilets that are just a year old. They flush fine but when the tank is filling up, there is a terrible moaning sound. Any idea why?
The tank is not designed to empty 100%. You can hold the handle down until it stops to use more water. Hope this helps. Please subscribe to the channel 👍🏻
My float seems to get hung up when filling so it over fills and is slow to shut off. I’ve turned the adjustment all the way the other way and it has no effect. Got any ideas about the fill valve?
My toilet flushes fine, but while refilling, an unsettling high-pitched water spray sound occurs. We have high mineral content in water and had clogged shower and frozen tub water turn on handles. Should we surmise this is the problem. The sound seems to come from inlet device not the cannister?
Definitely sounds like it is a problem with the incoming water supply. White vinegar can help to clear hard water problems up. Best of luck 🤞 please subscribe to the channel and like the video if you would 😀
The issue though is I do not want to hold the lever down until I get a complete flush. My Koehler never used to have this problem, now we have to hold the lever down every time to flush…or it just swirls around. It’s like the canister drops down to fast and cuts off the flush.
You can replace the fill valve. $14 at Home Depot for a fluid master with an extra valve that controls the bowl fill. The more water in the bowl, the better the flush. I have a video I’ll put out this week for it. Subscribe and you’ll see it soon.
Kohler toilets are JUNK. Mine also swirls the water and doesn't flush. Presently am filling a coffee can half full of water and dump it in and flushes perfectly until I replace it....LOUSY design
@@juans6639 Same. If I quick push the lever, it just dumps a small amount of water without actually causing a flush. The bowl then slowly drains back down to the normal level, and nothing is flushed away. I MUST hold the lever to get a full flush.
Believe me, you're not the only one who feels this way. I replaced my old toilet with one of these. I have the same problem. It is a poorly engineered toilet.@@juans6639
Same here. It isn’t the fill, it’s the canister falls sooner than it should. I don’t know if the plastic degrades and absorbs water? All I can think to do is replace the canister and see if it improves. It was never an issue then suddenly it was.
I was looking for a video that shows the aqua piston close up with the water going in and I see it’s normal that water is shooting out of it. I thought I had to replace mine but I guess not.
I have this same one. The floater Stopped Moving up and down freely on its own resulting in no water coming back into tank. Nothing is obstructing it. 😢 I have no clue what to do
I cannot for the life of me figure out how this thing refills water in the reservoir, the refill hose seemingly shoots water inside the inner can of the canister and down the same hole that the water normally goes during a flush, any help?
hopefully this answers your question: the water goes to two places from the fill valve but some goes through the refill hose to refill the toilet bowl and most of it comes out of slots at the bottom of the fill valve to fill the tank.
Great vid steve. Now I changed my canister seal to stop it from leaking , it's fixed. I adjusted flow level like you just did and stops nicely. Checked it a few hours later and seems the water creeps up very slowly and overflows into canister tube. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. PS just subbed you.
This would have been more helpful if you’d shown a before flush so we could see how your adjustments improved the flush quality. My fill level was a little below the line, so I adjusted it as shown, but it didn’t seem to solve the problem.
Thanks for the suggestion! It adds more water to the flush. You can hold the handle down when needed to empty the full tank. If that doesn’t work, you may have blocked holes going from the tank to toilet. There are ways to clean them out, but I’ve never had that problem.
umm which way do you turn the screw? I couldn't tell in the video. This would help. My problem is that it doesn't even start to refill after a flush - until i take the tank lid off and jostle the mechanism - then it starts to fill. This unit is only 1 month old. thx much,!
Adjust it either way until you get the desired water level. You will be able to tell as you go. It should not have a problem if it is that new. Same one from the video?
Mine too from the start. It flushes fine, but does not feel back with water. I will turn it once like in the video with a screwdriver, and now it won’t stop running and filling the back of the toilet. Then I adjust it and it doesn’t fill at all even if I turn it once then I’ll flush it again and it won’t work at all.
Your video came up first ! Great video and it was easy to adjust using my fingers. Only thing I dislike is the power of the flush. I could blow my nose with TP and it has clogged so I hold the lever down for a few seconds. I get a stronger flush but not amazingly better. I ran a snake through the pipes and there are no blocks. Water pressure is (overall) strong in this house. Just moved in last week so I’ll have to get used to it! But thanks for the video.
I hate these Kohler Toilets!!!! I have done everything that this video shows and other video shows and watched a few different videos and these toilets still don't flush solid waste properly.

Absolutely correct. Water saving feature.

Is the water still emptying out of the tank after the flush? Or no water at all comes in?

It will leave the water in the bowl too low.

Unclear which direction you turned screw to increase water level: clockwise or counter-clockwise?
It should show on the screw. If not just turn it and see if the water level goes up or down.
Clockwise will increase the water level, counter clockwise lowers it.

Swap it out for a new one. Lucky they are cheap compared to a plumber.
Just moved into a 10 year old home with Kohler toilets and the mechanism is way too complicated with too many parts that wear out.
Replace the whole insides and you will not have any trouble for years.
I hate the fact that my kohler has two flush modes. Press and release is a weak flush and hold down for a long flush.
You can switch it to a standard version. It’s easy to do.

I have almost no water in the bowl, and I can't raise the water level any higher. This is a brand new Kohler.
Replace the fill valve, water is not comeing threw the hose to the flush tower
We have a new Kohler too and very little water in bowl and hardly flushes; I HATE it!
Replace it with one that lets you adjust bowl fill
He doesn't say turn right ir left & doesn't show where he is turning.
There are different models. The top of the screws tell you which way to turn it.
Should have shown the ACTUAL FLUSH besides the adjustments you made.
