I provide easy instructions on how to stop that leak coming from the top of your Silent Fill Valve in your Kohler Toilet. Easy step-by-step instruction. I also provide instructions on how to replace the canister seal as well in another video, be sure to check out that video as well. Here is the link to that other video:

Thank you for watching, and thank you for your support!
THANK YOU! My plumber told me to order the Fill Valve and he would come to install it..... because of your video I installed it myself and saved money! Thank you!
Awesome to hear! Thank you for your comment!
Thank you for this video! as a first time homeowner I've never fixed a toilet before and I also prefer to learn visually. Got it done fast and didn't need to fumble with the instructions thanks to you! I hope you keep making more no-nonsense instructional videos. Subbed.
Thank you so much for your kind words and positive feedback--Glad I could help!
Great video. Very easy to replace the fill valve, except when the shutoff valve doesn’t shut off completely. But that’s another story.
Absolute the best video. I watched, looked up part at nearest store, purchased and replaced before my husband got home......Surprised him. Thank You
Thank you for sharing and thank you for your support!
Basic and easy to follow. This was my EXACT issue in my Kohler K4436. $17 for the part, 10 minutes of labor and DONE! Life saver…thank you!
I'm so glad my video helped. Thank you for being so supportive!
Just what I needed. I couldn't figure out how to move that long plastic screw and now I see that you just snap it out of its holder. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing-Glad I could help!
THANK YOU for this simple and straightforward video, with clear audio and in-focus, steady camera shots. I'll be looking you up for future repairs instead of wading through all the mumblers and bumblers.
Thank you for your kind words and support, brother!
Thank you for your sharing, I just change it today. This is my first time doing this 🙏
Glad my video helped! Thank you for your support!
Good video. Would have added two things: 1. The overall fill valve height is adjustable - show how and make sure height is correct for particular toilet; and 2. Show how to adjust float so that tank fills to proper level. Most people will figure this out on their own, but not everyone.
Great point, thank you
And I am one of them that can't figure it , is there another video?
Thanks, your video answered my question. I have to clean out my water line at the toilet. Most videos show the person removing or popping the cap off. I decided that this particular brand was NOT one of those that you remove the red cap; you twist it counter clockwise a quarter turn. Not all red caps work the same way. Glad I didn't break anything.
Glad I could help, and I'm glad you didn't break anything either. That is my fear, breaking something by guessing and making a decision based on how I think something should logically be removed. Haha! Thank you for your kind comment and for your support!
The 6 variously colored fittings that come in the plastic bag are flow restrictors of narrow to wider inside diameters. They control the volume of water that flows into the toilet bowl during the time the tank is being refilled. I had to experiment with a few of them to get to the correct balance between time taken to fill the tank vs the correct amount of water in the bowl. Meaning if you use the higher flow restrictor it takes substantially longer to fill the tank because more water is going into the bowl. The instructions do not address this issue. They just say to use the same color restrictor that was on the fill valve being replaced. If you have a 7-year-old toilet like mine it did not have a restrictor device. So I had to guess.
Hi, someone just replaced my old fill valve with this one. They used the blue restrictor but my toilet bowl is taking forever to fill. Was this what happened for you? My old fill valve was awesome and the bowl filled up quickly allowing for another flush very soon after if needed😂
This video was excellent and my husband was able to change out the fill valve quite easily.
Good to hear, glad my video helped! Thank you for your support!
Thank you for posting this video. In my case there was bit of debri that was lodged in the top cap that prevented the calve from closing. I flushed it and valve started working as expected. Thanks again !!
Glad my video helped you. Thank you for sharing and thank you for your support.
Your detailed instructions gave me the solution to fix my toilet. Thank you!
Good to hear, thank you for sharing!
This was an excellent walkthrough! I truly appreciate that you took the time to make it. Thank you - it helped me figure out what was wrong and how easy it was to fix it myself. 👏
Glad I could help! Thank you for your kind words and for your support!
My problem solved, BIG help. Thank You
Glad to hear, thank you for sharing, and thank you for your support!
Thank you. I made the sane repair because my toilet was running. It worked for a day and now it's running again . Not sure why? Maybe it's the water level. You didn't cover that in your video
Thank you! I probably would have broken the cap piece if I didn't watch this. After taking the top off, I turned the water on a little and a small chunk of metal came up which was causing the gasket not to seat.
Glad my video helped, thank you for sharing!
this seems to be a common problem with these. Mine did the same thing
Excellent video! I have a fairly new toilet, it was just seeping a little water. I didn't feel I needed to replace my whole assemblage but just the information in this video allowed me to open up and find a small piece of debris that was causing the seal to leak and make a slight hissing sound. I was able to remove the debris and fix the toilet in 5 minutes! Thank you so much
So glad this video helped you out, thank you for sharing your success, and thank you for your support!
Tried flushing out the pump , didn’t work. Decided to watch your video and replace the whole fill valve and now the problem is fixed. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it helped--Thank you for your comment!
Thank you very much. I replaced mine in about 15 minutes. I adjusted the height to match the old one.
Nice work! You're welcome, thank you for your feedback!
@@fixintodoitall Thank you so much again. Glad I found your video.
Great video & great camera work! Thank you so much!
Thank you for your kind comment and for your support!
Thank you for the video. It was VERY helpful!!
Glad to hear, thank you for sharing, and thank you for your support!
Thank you! Very well explained!
Thank you for saying so, and thank you for your support.
The diaphram's sold individually at Home Depot for a couple a bucks & would have solved your problem despite no visible defect in old one. Just put your hand over the top & turn on water to flush out the debris before replacing.
Thank you for sharing and for your support in watching this video!
They are $3.80 including tax in SF bay area. Just repaired my folks toilet that had a worn diaphragm with depressions in it. Tried cleaning the old one very well, but wasn't good enough to prevent the leaking.
Do you know the part # or what is called?
great informational video. thank you.
Thank you for your comment and for your support.
Thank you for the help. Amazing video and precise 💯
Thank you for saying so and for your support!
Loved your video! My 3 year old and I watched and he said "Well that looks easy!"
After replacing the full valve, now I'm having another problem. When we use the trip lever, the canister is popping off. Any idea why?
Oh good, glad my video helped--Thank you for saying so! As far as the canister popping off it would be hard for me to suggest without seeing what is going on with your trip lever and canister. If you still have this problem, can you post a video? A visual would help.
Thank you, you saved me $$ and headache with plumbers 😂
Glad to hear, thank you for your feedback and for your support!
Worked for me! Thanks
Thank you for saying so, and thank you for your support!
I needed to see how you removed the bolt closest to the tank with your channel locks. I don’t even know what a channel locks are or is that’s the part that you left out and that’s the part that I needed. Otherwise, your video was great.
Yeah, sorry about that, I wasn't using a GoPro or anything strapped to me, I was only using my cell phone, I just couldn't get it down there while needing both hands. I hope you figured it out. Thank you for your feedback and for your support!
best yet

Quick question, i noticed you used the grey tab grabber, why that one? I’m not sure which color tab grabber I have to use so I’m gonna use the grey one because you used it. Also, what’s the first white wing nut you took out of the box first before the bag of parts for the replacement. I did t know what to do with that so I’m gonna just do the replacement/installation just like you did on this video. I just wanted to know why there were so much pieces in the kit that would confuse people if they didn’t need those parts. The instructions in the box didn’t really clarify. Thanks for the video and will be looking for a response.
Excellent question. I grabbed the grey tab, grabber because I saw that was the color of the previous unit that I was replacing. I assumed that would be the correct size for my toilet. As for the white wing nut, I didn't see a use for it. Thank you for your question and for your support.
That's the same contraption some plumber put in my rental. Refill water comes out everywhere except the tube.
The weird thing is, if I close the supply valve, wait 10 seconds and reopen it, the water comes out the tube where its supposed to. Doesn't matter if slightly cracked open or wide open.
Next flush, it sprays out all around the underside of the red cap again. Drives me nuts.
Yes, I removed the tube and bracket, and made sure they were clear. Also removed the red cap (several times, and it never cracked or broke), put a small bucket upside'down over that area and blasted fresh water thru it.
Never saw anything come out. Tried flipping the black rubber washer thing over too. Seemed like it made it worse, so I put it back the way it was.
That is interesting--Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for helping me replace the fill valve in my toilet. Success! Before I replaced the unit, my toilet was dual flush. I had to hold handle down for full tank flush. The duo flush no longer works after installing fill valve unit. How can I restore?
It would help to observe this function you're talking about through a video.
@@fixintodoitall thank you! I fixed it. truly user error. again, great video!
Thank you! Great video. I was able to do this in 45 minutes. It'd be shorter if I didn't have to struggle removing the nut from the water supply line. After that, it was quick.
When I replaced the nipple and hose, I noticed water was leaking (more than your video). I decided to use the original hose which seems to have more of a grip and less leakage. Is that ok to have some water leak from the nipple (where it connects from the fill valve to the hose)?
Glad my video was helpful for you. I really don’t know what to advise on the leakage. I know I wouldn’t want to have a leakage of any kind. Good luck. Please let me know what you end up doing. Thank you for your comment.
@@fixintodoitall Kohler said the drip/water slowly coming out shouldn't be an issue as long as it stops after the tank is full. I will continue to monitor it and see how it goes. Thanks again!
Very helpful video! Thanks! I also have an issue with my Kholer I have to hold down my toilet handle otherwise the toilet won’t complete it’s flush. This is a pain always forget to hold the handle Down. Can you help?
Thank you for your question, I wish I could help. But without physically being there and witnessing it firsthand, it would be hard for me to even know what to suggest. I hope you can find some answers--Good luck!
Thanks very much!
You're welcome, thank you for your kind comment!
Need to show how to adjust fill water level
Thank you for your suggestion. I'll look into that.
Thank you for shared
Great video! I'm about to do that. One question why this valve come with that many hose attachments?
Lol, too many engenders in this world; I guess. Thank you for your comment.
Obviously the intent of the video was to show replacing the fill valve. In most instances it would be unnecessary and only need to replace the seal for less than $4 for the toilet to work like new. I just replaced the seals on both Kohler toilets. THey work perfectly .
Valid point. But I don't see much of a cost difference between the two. If I spend the time and get my hands dirty, I might as well replace the entire assembly. That's my thought process. Thank you for your comment and for your support!
Did the trick.
Thanks.
Glad I can help, thank you for saying so, and for your support.
I have a the same leak from a Brascraft fill valve. The Brasscraft valve uses a very similar pilot slave diaphragm arangment. The problem is chlorinated water in my area causes the diaphragm to swell. This restricts the flow through the tiny center passage through the diaphragm preventing it from shutting off completly. This happens about every three years on a valve warantied for ten. Brasscraft does not make available replacement diaphragms. Next time around I will replace it with a traditional valve/float arangment.
Thank you for sharing--Best wishes!
I saw the video on how to replace the float valve assy. Was it as easy as it was in the video? Any leaks after install? Do you only need to tighten the mylon nut on the bottom of tank? No torquing necessary?
Correct, very easy, everything by hand, no torquing. I only suggested that I needed a pair of channel locks to loosen because I had no idea how tight it would be, but I believe I could have gotten it with my bare hands. Thank you for asking and thank you for your support.
My toilet every so often is loding water from the tank and refills to its proper height. I replaced the cannister seal but that didnt work.
Could it be the the valve that you replaced in this video?
Perhaps, it could solve your problem. But it's hard to know without physically being there to assess your situation. Thank you for asking.
So now does your toilet flush good with way less water in the tank? At 4:49 the new one is way shorter (look at the white collar) and at 7:03 how much lower than the watermark the water level is. Is that thread looking part by the white collar an adjustment? Also make sure to install the same color adapter, as on their old valve, where that hose hooks on.
Yes, no problems at all. I noticed the water level was lower after I made my video and tried to find a way to adjust it but I gave up quickly because I felt there was more than enough water to flush with both flush settings.
There are threads of sorts in the middle by the white coller that adjusts the length.@@fixintodoitall
@@alm7707 does that just adjust the float or water level??
I just purchased this toilet and seems to have same issue. I reset seal and it stopped leaking but occasionally will not fill. I may replace just the whole valve. Brand new out of box toilet and it is faulty. Thanks for the video.
The cost really is not much different. That was my thought. Thank you for your support.
Excellent video! Do you need to put silicone grease/sealant or something like that under the seal to prevent leaking?
Excellent question--I did not! Thank you for your comment.
Thank you. How to do this on a One piece Kohler Reve toilet?
Thank you…but you made one major mistake. You failed to adjust the height of the replacement fill valve to the same height of the old one that you were removing. The Kohler fill valve is height adjustable. You lift up the clear plastic ring so that you can adjust the height by turning and pulling. If it’s too high, the tank lid won’t close properly. If it’s too low, you won’t get enough water in the tank.
Genuine Kohler box but Fluid Master parts.
@@GodisGreat-p2s Find another video, not in this one.
@wkm001 I figured it out thank you
What was that extra piece you put down?
@ritaalbert1266 It's a white ring you pull-down to raise the fill valve
The Kohler Fill Valve looks the same as the FluidMaster?
I put a Kohler cylinder flush valve in my toilet that always had a problem sealing tight with the flat type flappers. The only problem I don't like, is that the cylinder valve sets higher causing less water volume for the flush.
Interesting, thank you for sharing.
@@fixintodoitall As for the Kohler Cylinder flush valve, I have to hold the lever for a full flush. Is that normal? If I just push the level and release, I get a quick flush.
Thanks
@@rondail5675 I learned a quick flush is ideal for liquid flushing. A full hold is for solid flushing. You'll use less water with the quick flush if you're olnly flushing liquid.
@@fixintodoitall Thanks, so it is normal!
wonder how much extra Kohler charges to put their name on what looks like a Fluidmaster valve??
How to tell where Kohler toilets are leaking
I got the Koehler replacement part.
But the one in my tank is a little different the floater is an oval shape the new one is round.
Is that not the right one or will it work ok ?
Thanks
Not sure, my friend. As long as all the connections match up, it could work. Hard to say without me being there with you.
after filling a few minutes later it will add some water to the tank. How do you stop that? It's not much but you hear it.
I'm not sure without being there to look around. Sounds like you must have a leak somewhere, perhaps the canister has water passing through.
I just did this repair and the problem is not the rubber gasket but a crack in the gray plastic part.
Now how do I find the right fill cave for my kholer?
Same issue .. part number ?
Kohler Silent Fill Valve Kit GP1083167. Thank you for your support!
that's what I get for buying Kholer
Lol, thank you for your comment and for your support!
I just installed the Koehler silent valve, and it is much louder than my old one and takes forever to fill the tank (about 2 min.). Any idea what may be causing this?
Not so 'silent' valve. My only suggestion is to reinstall it. Thank you for your question.
Same but it's my toilet bowl that takes forever but it seems that the water is flowing into the bowl so strongly so I don't understand. It's extremely annoying and not silent at all. I had a fluidmaster pump before and it was awesome, I swear 30 seconds and you could flush again.
Seal valve didn’t close for me using the new seal. Why? Old seal works. Seals are different. Seems that the seal is too thin.
No doubt, you have the wrong seal. Where did buy your seal? Look at your existing Fill Valve, you should find a model number. Good luck, and thank you for your question.
Do you have a link to the rubber seal?
I don't. Thank you for asking. If I find one I'll send it here.
This is horrible, so how do find what color insert to use if you don't have the old part? And the model #, I have is not on Kohler's website !
Try searching for your model number on Amazon. You might also find your answers by searching on Google. Thank you for your questions and good luck.
i hope they come up with a better toilet worse one i ever bought
the water comes up too slow . Takes 2 & 1/2 min
Bought a brand new toilet and my fill valve is leaking what a joke
Sorry to hear, that is crazy. Thank you for your comment.

4:32 unless your seal is leaking from the tank - you don't have to take the whole thing out. You can pull that plastic ring up and pull on the top shaft and the whole top comes off leaving the bottom intake. Then just slide the new one over the stalk and your done.
Awesome information, Thanks
Thank you for saying so and thank you for your support!!
You motivated me to fix my running toilet. I will post after the work is completed
Thanks again, I had two running toilets and changed both successfully and the toilets were fixed under 1hr.
Thank you!
