What's the difference between a plumber and Jesse James? Jesse James had a gun! 😂 (It's just a joke Wog; but... True as hell!) ($150.00 to install new hoses on my washing machine. Never thought to ask how much to do it before calling... Like my former wives, 😮😢 it kinda taught me a lesson.)
Yup, always ask for a price up front. Hoses may only cost $35 for a set, but that plumber has to pay for his time to drive to and from your house.. costs for license, insurance, bond and all his other overhead (shop, electricity, tools, vehicles, taxes, payroll, etc), not to mention the time he's at your house to do the work. Often, we have more costs related to our overhead than the item and time we're on site, especially on smaller jobs. Thanks for the comment.
I just fixed my toilet I'm 61 years old living by myself for the first time I watched your video and was able to repair my toilet I just wanted to say thank you for making it so easy 😂😂😂
Thanks Mr. Wogger. It worked for me perfectly. A 5 year old Kohler developed a very slow flush. The rim jets were fine. The siphon jet was so calcified I couldn't even get my finger in it. I had some industrial Zep and poured about 2 cups in the overflow tube and let it set for a couple hours after emptying the bowl. Just let it soak and do its thing. I used a curved end pic and started digging. The huge scales came out after some work. After an hours work, I ended up with a pile of calcium and scales the size of a baseball altogether. The other half went out the drain with a few intermittent flushes. Just be persistent, and if the siphon jet is not nice and smooth to the feel, keep working at it. And when it's nice and smooth, it will work like a million bucks. I am now my wife's hero. Everybody is now trained to flush after every use. Calcium buildup is mostly caused by the very acidic sitting urine. The proof is that the rim jets were perfectly clean. We have very good water here too. I flush every time now just to watch the big explosion of water in 2 seconds. Sometimes I even walk past it and flush it, just to watch and admire the siphon jet do it's thing.
Glad you ended up the hero and I think everyone likes to admire their handiwork, even if it is just a well flushing toilet. Good luck with your next hero project.
Me too!!! It worked!!! Now, instead of me sitting on my porch in the evening relaxing with a beer and cigar, I sit in the bathroom with my beer, cigar and stopwatch, admiring the speed of my toilet flushing!!!! I hope to break two (2) seconds for a “straight flush” soon 😊. Now about my water bill$$$……
You can get a job as an instructor. You explain things clearly in simple layman's language. I was able to make my slow flushing toilet work smoothly. Hats off to you!
Dude you’re like the dad I never had! For over six months I’ve had a weak flush. Turns out it was the siphon jet. I had not ides that’s what it was called, much less what it does! I cleaned that shit out (pun intended 🤢 😂) with a toothbrush and now it’s working like new!! I’m flushing it just for fun now. 🤣. Thanks again my man. You’re awesome!!
Messed around with the flapper in the tank for hours until I found your video about the siphon jet! I used the head of a 3" screw to scrape out the interior of the jet and almost had a complete blockage cleared. Saved me a lot of time and money. Great video and info! Thank you sir!
Great video. I'm another one of your women viewers (65 yrs) who are tackling projects alone with the help of UA-cam and videos like yours. I just fixed a two year problem in less than 5 minutes. Learning how simple the internal mechanism actually works will help evaluate problems in the future. Some heroes don't wear capes. Thanks
I just made that comment as a footnote. I found that your video probably saved me several hundred dollars. I followed your advice on checking for a clogged lower jet and I didn't realize so much hard scaley stuff could accumulate there. Clean it out with a wire and now we have the best flush in years. Thanks for your video.
Hey! This is the best video out there for a simple solution to a frustrating problem. The Throne room has been restored to its former glory. No more yelling at my poop to go away!
That's what I'm here for. You don't need a man.. you got me. Hmmm, that didn't sound quite right. I'm sure yo get my meaning. Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects.
Thanks very much for your video. I have watched a couple others but yours is best. Slow and easy and well talked out, as well as showing all the procedures.
Thank you for this video! After dealing with a slow flush toilet for over a year and water touching my low hanging fruit, I was on the verge of calling a plumber. It was nearly clogged siphon jet (aka: pooper pusher). You made my day finally getting this fixed.
Glad it helped you and cleaning out the poop pusher resolved your issue.. an yes, I'm going to be calling it from that now on. Haha Good luck with your projects.
Wanted to give a big thanks for making this great video. I watched a few before this that talked about the rim jets only, and I did the whole vinegar/duct tape thing, with no success. Turns out the siphon jet was clogged right down to a pin hole from hard water. Chipped away at it with a coat hanger and vinegar soak, and we're good as new.
Glad my video helped. Yeah, if you miss the siphon jet or the rim jet and only do one or the other you'll still have issues, as you found out. Thanks for the nice review and good luck with your future projects.
Thank you for this vital information. I’ve been working in plant operations maintenance for a long time and just now having to deal with a plugged jet system. it just so happens to be at my house. my toilet was flushing slow, so I put in detergent pellets, and they dissolved enough to finish plugging up the jets.
Much thanks! I have a customer with lots of calcium in his toilet with a slow flow. I understood everything you taught. I think I can clean it up. Thank you so much!
Some gets soaked up by the deposits in the rim. Some flows out the siphon jet. To get more to stay in the rim you can plug the siphon jet, which is something I neglected to mention in the video. Good catch.
After following your process (I left the CLR in the bowl and rim jets for 26 hours) my toilet flushs perfectly. There were brown stains in the siphon jet and the bottom of the bowl that completely came out with minimal scrubbing. Most shocking was, when I scrubbed inside the area where the waste goes out to be drained and I flushed the second time, a huge piece of calcium dislodged. I took it out and put it in the waste basket. The chunk of calcium was approximately 4 inches round (the same diameter of the waste exit) and about 6 inches long and about 1/8 inch thick! After 26 hours of waiting and cleaning and following your process, my toilet flushs perfectly!
Thank you for all the information. Clear, concise and complete. FYI I have tried CLR for toilet ring and it didn’t make a difference even after leaving on for several hours. The ring was only after 2 weeks of regular use but there’s a lot of iron, especially, plus other minerals in the well water around here. I’ve found that straight vinegar works best with an occasional use of a pumice stone.
Vinegar is a great safe alternative. Just be careful with that stone. VERY light pressure. Once you scratch that porcelain coating you'll be cleaning a lot more often. Very fine sandpaper, wetted down is another alternative. thanks for the encouraging words and good luck with your projects.
Another thing that you should mention is that most times calcium or lime deposits becomes a rock in what is called the goose neck of it's internal p trap and almost impossible to get rid of
You still want to use those bleach cakes and not worry about residue while keeping your toilet clean? Take an old sock with no holes in it. Put the bleach cake inside and close it with a tie-tag. Buy a bird-suet feed cage put the sock in it, close it up tight and drop it in the tank someplace where it doesn't interfere with anything. Residue will stay inside of sock! Great video, I subbed!
Great tip. the sock will keep larger chunks of the cake from getting lodged in the rim jects. Just make sure to pay attention to the condition of the sock when you change the cake, since the chlorine in the cake will deteriorate the sock. Thanks for watching and the great tip
Wonderful video I have very hard water with lots of lime. I learned a lot. I'm not fixed yet. I agree nothing down toilet especially on a well water and septic tanks. I married a city man who is still learing no paper towels or butt wipes or we will be pumping the septic every year. Oh yeah and dumping a beer down the toilet doesn't solve the problem!!!! Thanks for the video
That would be a waste of a perfectly good beer. Well water and septic systems give you a whole separate bunch of "fun" issues to think about.. Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects.
Wow! Richard on ATOH is/was my go to guy for plumbing but now I got another source for plumbing related issues! Well done! Very meticulous; perfect explanation; best I've seen! Thanks! 🚽
WOW….. after using dawn to flush toilet and no progress found this video. Found out I need a new flapper. My toilet is from 1957, am I going to be able to find a flapper? The most informative video I have seen. I’m a senior, going to have someone do the repair. Thank you
Wow, a 67 yr old toilet and still running strong. Good for you. You shouldn't have a problem on getting a flapper to fit. Whomever you have doing the repair can get one to fit.. if you're buying the flapper just take the old one to the store with you to match them up. check out my video on toilet flappers: ua-cam.com/video/xhxK2IGpcnY/v-deo.html Good luck with your project.
My toilet has not flushed properly for 5 months I replace the flap and still would not flush the poop out or tissue.. Today was the day I was tired of pouring water in the toilet to flush and I watched your Your video it was amazing I did exactly what you said OMG it was the siphone jet and the rim jets I want to thank you so much never thought I would beable to do this at 70 years old but thanks to your knowledge and amazing video my poop is no long hanging around it is bye bye poop💩💩💩💩 I used apple cider vinegar and let it set for 3 hours in the tank and inside the toilet...I am so happy!! Oh the calcium/lime deposit came off in tiny sheets like paper I was amazed The holes around the rim I used a bendable plastic so I would not scrape the toilet ...I will buy CLR just incase and no more tablets in the tank and only use Scotts toilet paper...We have hard water in this area is there something I can do to prevent this from happening since the area has hard water?
I'm glad my video helped you with your 5 month ordeal. You're never to old to learn. We also have hard water here in the Vegas area and I constantly come across fixtures in homes with calcium/mineral build up. A water treatment/softener system will go a long way to help reduce the effects of hard water. Good luck with your projects and thank you for the kind words.
@@thewoggerswaydiy Thanks again for your tips . . . haven't tried anything (other than checking the flapper, which is functioning fine, as per your video) but expect to shortly, e.g., cleaning rim jet and/or siphon hole. One other point I wanted to note: My toilet functions better after a bowel movement, as it appears that the weight of such causes it to go down better. If it's only urine or toilet paper, that doesn't go down as well. Just wondering if you ever experienced such. Thanks!
Someone else that caught that. Had to refilm removing the tape due to problem with the initial take so just reapplied the tape to film the removal. Also, you probably won't have much coming out anyway. A lot of the cleaner will exit out the siphon jet and what's in the raceway around the rim jets will get soaked up by the calcium/etc that it's removing. Something I should have put in the video, is how to keep more cleaner in the raceway is to seal off the siphon jet. Usually some paper towels in a baggie that's stuffed into the siphon jet will plug it up and keep more of the CLR, vinegar or cleaner of choice inside without exiting into the bowl. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Good video - logical explanations with methodical steps for diagnosing. Moving the flapper chain to a different hole on the lever made it lift high enough to flush right. I think back when I replaced the fill valve (Toto) I had moved the chain to the wrong place. It wasn't a problem until later when probably the jets got more clogged. Now it works 9 out of 10 times, so I'm going to work on those "jets" next.
Thanks for the comments and support. It's always the little things like the chain placement many people don't think about. Good luck with your projects.
Thanks for a clear and concise video. I will try this on my next day off. Is it possible for the siphon jet to be TOTALLY blocked with general deposits?
Sorry for the later reply. Hope you got it resolved. Would need more info before i could throw my two cents in. does water go in when you flush and just not go in to fill the bowl after a flush?
Lots of wonderful tips - not sure yet if they worked, but I'm trying them. I just can't believe we live in the 21st century and you can still spend hundreds of dollars on a toilet that just doesn't work right out of the box or only lasts a month (my toilet).
All the new water saving regulations make it tougher and tougher to get a good flush. We've come a long way since the first low flush toilets, but still a long way to go. Currently in process of filming what I think is one of the best water saving toilets out there, and at a price that puts the discount toilets to shame.. super high flushing power and at a low price. Keep watching the channel for it .. hopefully not too much longer.
Dude. I'm sitting here humbled. I have worked on everything from toilets to 240v power panels in my Dad's apartments since I was 24. I'm 65 now and had never hear of a "siphon jet" getting clogged. I have spent the past three days chasing a damned clog in my home that wasn't there! I've been under my house and on the roof, as well as out in the yard with a 50' 1/2" Electric Eel model K (hand cranked). The bathtub was draining slowly so I associated it with the toilet issue, and didn't try a snake in the tub drain. The toilet would flush perfectly if a small bucket of water was added as you flush. I searched UA-cam with that criteria and found your channel. Per your advice, I found a huge obstruction of scale and lime that had to be chipped out. Now it flushes like new. The tub's issue was a simple hair clog. Thanks a million for this very useful (and somewhat embarrassing) video!
Nothing to be embarrassed about.. humbling maybe. We all go through multiple steps when one piece of the puzzle isn't known. Now you know for the next 41 years. Thanks for the comment and good luck with all your future projects.
Thank you sooo much!! I was going crazy determining what in heaven was wrong with my toilet. I tried everything but, it turns out it was a completely clogged syphon (18 year old house). I used a metal camping stake and worked it until it slowly opened the “hole”. Best wishes to you.😊
The canister style, like you see with a lot of Kohler toilets, work the same way, just pour the CLR in the top of the canister, like you would do with the overflow pipe with flapper style flush valves. Thanks.. Good luck with your projects.
This is one of the best videos I've seen. Decades of asking people about this and getting half-assed answers. Thank you so much for sharing this. My issue is, within the last month, the toilet has started to smell even after flushing and isn't flushing all the way. No idea why but I'm going to go through these steps!
Go through all the steps and hopefully it helps. If the smell is isolated to the toilet (faucets, other toilets, etc don't have the smell) then there's something in that toilet that's causing the smell. If you pull the lid off the tank and it smells inside the tank you may want to clean the tank thoroughly. If the tank water is fine but it smells once it gets into the bowl, then you have something in the channels in the toilet between the tank and bowl (raceway around the rim, path to siphon jet) that's causing the smell. In that case, cleaning using the steps in this video should help. You may want to plug the siphon jet before pouring the cleaner down the overflow pipe to keep any cleaner from exiting into the bowl, and then let it sit overnight, just to make sure you're getting a thorough cleaning inside. Hope this helps and comment below on the results. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. thanks for watching. If you haven't subscribed please help me reach my goal of 15,000 subscribers by end of 2025.. drawings to be held monthly all next year for gifts to lucky subscribers. Thank you again for watching.
😅 I'm sooo happy I found your site I have been replacing parts for 1 yr finally replaced all to start from new. Well found out there was lime all corroded in the toilet . Thank you so much soaked in vinegar and scrapped in hole also little holes.😂 Also everyone kept telling me not to change gasket easy. Thank you for your video!!!❤❤❤
What I'd like to know is why no one has come up with an easy to use jet cleaner - Something the right size and shape with a handle. The Allen wrench works but it is hard on the hand and the dang thing keeps twisting in your hand. II found this out when I recently had a slow flushing toilet and found this video. It fixed my problem, but that dang Allen wrench made my hand ache. Thank you for the very informative video.
Challenge .. accepted. Actually, that's one of the tools on my list to design. I have a couple others in the works, and one ready to go to patent. After making this video I had the thought for a couple different options. Great minds think alike. :-)
Will try to find a strong plastic to poke at drain or rim holes as metal might scratch ceramic glaze andl ead to harder to clean later. Very good info on your video, as hard water around here.
The inside of the rim jets and raceway normally isn't isn't glazed so unless you're scratching along the bottom of the rim, you shouldn't have to worry, but a good strong plastic utensil or even a small nylon pipe brush should work fine since the CLR should have loosened up any build up. Good luck with your projects.
i realized what the problem was thanks to your information. My fill valve was too short for the tank. There's a fill line inside the tank and the water wasn't getting close to the line at all. So the water just stopped filling...keeping it from getting the right amount of water needed to flush. Thank you
My flapper chain had way too much slack and my float level was a tad low. Both issues have been address and the problem of weak flushing seems to be resolved now. Thank you, good sir
i have the flapper thing you are holding at 4:09 but my fill valve is like whats in your tank in this video. my toilet has had nothing but problems off n on for years. im beyond sick of it. i made sure everythingsw setup right just like you said in this video....... yet..... heres what happens. 1)push the handle long or short = same results. toilet fills with water, circulating somewhat 8ish seconds later flap drops & the tank starts filling.toilet has mostly dirty water. ive adjusted fillvalve all sorts of different hights, but pretty much same results. ........ could the jets under the bowl be the culprit??? i ran a skinny wire in each one & alos the hole at the bottom of the bowl trying to get the hardwater deposits off. - what id give for a normal flushing toilet.
Sounds like all the "mechanics" are working properly, just the toilet isn't flushing out. Did you try the bucket test? Does it flush out properly when you do that? If so, then it sounds as though you're just not getting enough water into the bowl fast enough to flush it out. Either the flush valve (in your case it sounds as though you have the Mansfield type) is closing too soon or there's a blockage in the path to the siphon and rim jets. If you're holding down the flush handle to keep the canister open to allow as much water out of the tank as possible but it's still not flushing out, then it's time for a thorough cleaning... tape off the rim jets and plug the siphon jet.. just take a baggie and put some paper towels in it and shove it into the siphon jet to block it. Then pour your cleaner of choice (CLR, vinegar, etc) into the overflow pipe. give it at least a quart if not more. The plug in the siphon jet will keep the cleaner in the channel without escaping into the bowl. Wait overnight then remove the siphon jet plug and the tape. Clean out the rim jets and siphon jet one last time and give it another try. If this doesn't resolve your issue, you know you've done everything possible to make it work right. At that point it's time for a new toilet. I recommend the Power Flush toilet by Glacier Bay. It's a chair height toilet, elongated seat, slow close lip and power to flush all your troubles away due to it's vacuum-assisted flush mechanism in the tank. I have them in my house and have never had a problem, and for $130 they're a great bargain with everything included to install. Leave a comment on how your project goes. Thank you for watching.
Great video! I’m going to try this as my toilet looks disgusting from all the terrible hard water I have here and I can tell my toilet wasn’t cleaned out like that when I bought this house!!
Great video. I had a clogged siphon jet hole at the bottom loaded with calcifications. I cleaned that out with 'stuppy' needle nose pliers. When I poured CLR into the tube in the tank, the CLR started pouring into the toilet. Why? I also used the duck tape around the rim to cover the rim jets as well. However, after all was done, I do have a great flushing toliet. Trying to understand the issue with the CLR though? Thank you!
Pouring the cleaner (CLR, vinegar, etc) into the overflow pipe results in it going into the raceway around the rim jets and out the siphon jet. That's one thing I need to update the video about. In order to keep more cleaner in the channels to both, take a wad of paper towels and stuff into a baggie and use that as a "plug" in the siphon jet. That'll keep more cleaner in the pathway. Appreciate the feedback and good luck with your projects.
Okay it makes sense now. In addition while pouring the CLR into the tube, I lifted the round canister a bit also causing it to enter into the toliet bowl as well. Thanks bro! @@thewoggerswaydiy
@16:16 I did this but I mixed the CLR & H2O 60/40 (because supposedly CLR needs H2O as a vehicle to work properly) and got great results!! I recommend using Duck Tape Max. It sticks very well as long as the toilet is dry.
Hi Mr.Wogger, just found your helpful tutorial. Is CLR more potent and faster working than 30% vinegar? For the canister style overflow, do we pour product in it to clean the rim jets? Is regular household vinegar (5%) better for that use to avoid corrosion of the tank parts? I have a 6 year old Kolher with siphon jet buildup. I live in an area with extremely hard water and after a 20 hour soak of 30% vinegar and scraping with a small screwdriver, there's still a hard crust lining the siphon jet. The flush pressure is better but I wonder if I should try again with CLR to tackle what remains? Thanks for the well-presented video!
On your next application, whether it's vinegar or CLR, plug the siphon jet first. usually a small plastic baggie with some paper towels and then wedged in the siphon jet works well. This will keep more of the solution inside the siphon jet and rim, rather than leak out into the bowl. Let it set overnight an hopefully your problem is resolved. Yes CLR tends to work faster but it can be a little hard on some finishes. Plastics and porcelain of a toilet are fine with it though. The Kohler canister type flush valves, the canister works as the flapper and overflow so pouring your solution down the inside of the canister is the process. Thanks for watching and the great comment.
Thanks for the thorough video. It was great. I have an old style toilet that doesn’t have a siphon hole. It still flushes well, but I have to use the courtesy flush. 😢
There's a lot of toilets, old and new, that don't have a siphon jet, but cleaning the rim jets will still give you better performance. Good luck with your projects and thanks for watching.
Sounds like you had a minor obstruction in your drain line.. Doing the bucket test works similar to using a plunger, although you risk of overflowing the bowl if there's not enough capacity in the bowl to accommodate the water in the bucket. Something to be mindful of when pouring the water in. Glad it worked for you. Good luck with your future projects.
@@thewoggerswaydiy Great tips throughout the video. Courtesy flush, not too many people mention that and the "flushable" wipes don't go down. Yep, I came to that same conclusion about the clog downstream. Odd enough though, my first go-to is the plunger, however, no matter how many times I tried with the plunger, it would not clear the obstruction, I made sure it had a good seal in the bowl, etc. You had a great explanation of the mechanical workings of the tank. Turned my attention to clogged rim jets and a clogged siphon jet (nice explanation on that as well). Finally, the hot water pour. A final request, I left my ring on (yeah, no glove) when cleaning the siphon jet and it left some marks on the bottom of the bowl. Any tips how to remove the marks without scratching the porcelain?
I was about to go to menards tomorrow to buy a new toilet, i replaced all the internals in a toilet that hasnt been used for over 2 years. I even replaced the wax ring.....it still doesn't want to flush consistently I'm going to buy some CLR tomorrow instead and recheck my flapper. This video might save me close to $400....thank you!
@thewoggerswaydiy , cleaned the rim jets, reset the flapper, got the water level correct.....flushes like she's new, $6 worth of CLR...the duct tape I already had. Your video saved me mucho dollars....thank you very much!
You can still check if the issue is in the drain line or toilet by performing the bucket test. If it flushes fine and you've determined the issue is in the toilet you can still clean the siphon and rim jets. Easiest way for a wall mount system with a concealed tank is first to manually clean out the siphon jet as demonstrated, then tape off the rim jets as shown and then poke a hole through the tape over one of the rim jets and use a squeeze bottle with a plastic hose attached to the nozzle. A condiment squeeze bottle you can get, like for ketchup and mustard works well. Just add a piece of hose, about 12" long, over the nozzle and squirt the vinegar or CLR up into the raceway through that hole you made and then tape off the hole. Before you do that, take a small baggie, stuffed with some paper towels, to use as a plug and plug up the siphon jet to keep all the CLR in the raceway and siphon jet to do its magic and hopefully the issue isn't in the mechanics of the tank itself. Good luck with your project
Thanks for the descriptions of how this works. I have a question though. When I flush the siphon jet ALWAYS shoots out a large amount of air first. Can't figure out where this comes from
Air gets trapped in the raceway and chute to the siphon jet.. usually the result of clogged rim jets that don't let the air escape. Cleaning the siphon jet and rim jets may cure that issue but it's not really and "issue". If water bubbles come up in the bowl when you flush, then that could be signs of a partial blockage in the drain line somewhere. This also seems to occur in low flush or water conserving toilets more often than others.
Wow i can't believe my eye, just today i did it it worked with in 5 minute.Due to weak flushing we always used to pour bucket of water but now with just one button push the flushing power increasd significantly
Are you referring that if you have some paper towels clogged in the toilet? if it's in the toilet drain itself, then a toilet auger should work great. There's a link to one in my comments section. if it's further down the drain line, then you may have to pull the toilet and run a snake down the drain line. Thanks for watching.
I'm guessing you're referring to the Mansfield flush valve I hold up at 4:06 thru 4:13. If holding down the flush handle gets the bowl to flush out but by not holding it you're either getting no flush or a very weak flush, then the bowl isn't getting enough water to it. Either the water level in the tank is not high enough or the flush valve is closing too soon. If the water level is low, try adjusting the float on the fill valve to allow more water into the tank before it shuts off. If the water level is pretty much at peak height I recommend changing out the flush valve. This entails removing the tank from the bowl. I recommend replacing the Mansfield flush valve with the one by Fluidmaster with a flapper (I whow this kit in my video on how to replace a fill valve). If you have a Home Depot near you, you can pick up the kit for around $21 and it includes everything.. flush valve, fill valve, flapper, tank-to-bowl bolts and tank-to-bowl gasket. If you're removing the tank to replace the flush valve you'll probably need to replace the tank bolts also and while you're going that far you might as well replace the fill valve also, since it's included in the kit. I'm a big proponent of this kit and have never had a problem with a toilet flushing properly after installing this flush valve. Have never been a big fan of the Mansfield flush valves. I'm in the process of doing a video on replacing the flush valve but still in the works, which also includes doing the conversion from the Mansfield to the Fluidmaster. Hope this helps you and good luck with your project.
In over 30 years I have never heard of it referred to as a flush post. The inlet valve is referred to as the "fill valve"... the outlet mechanism, which contains either the flapper or canister and overflow pipe, is known as a flush valve and all manufacturers (Kohler, Mansfield, Fluidmaster, Everbuilt, etc etc) call their product a flush valve. It's possible other countries refer to it as a flush post, just as what we call a compression ring, England refers to it as an Olive. Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects.
Sir thank you. to say my toilet has been an issue is an understatement. I've had to open 40 year old clean outs, accesses, and all sorts of things. Could not find out why the toilet was slow. Well, the toilet is from the 1950's. ok? yeah I'll replace it soon after the holidays are over (2023 new years eve here now). I rodded, probed, camera'd , could not find the issue. We had some CLR left in a bottle here and the wife did comment about one of the jets having been clogged, but I went and checked ALL of them and 30% of them were half clogged or clogged. I ran an old easter egg dipping wireframe thing (that comes in those kits, you knoe the copper egg holder) and bent it up in those jets. after a CLR treatment). Flapper seems open long enough, float valve is a new one , and levels all set. However, yes however, I hadnt gotten a successful snaking through the entire toilet in a good while. I used a Royobi motorized thing I had gotten for a fathers day present that I use outside on our property draining network, and from what I saw that should be able to go through the toilet entirely. It wouldnt until I got a little forceful with it while it was turning and she did kick back some smell and noise in there. I'm figuring calcification in the jets can sure mean calcification elsewhere. Its old and I've been here over 30 of the years. Nonetheless, a positive result is being seen. I snaked it a bunch of times now while flushing and it seems a lot lot better. The septic system cant really be too much at fault since I had it totally replaced when I moved in 30 years ago. The original issue was needing to flush it a few times, off and on, sometimes good, sometimes not. Seems pretty good right now. Its gurgling back at me like THANK YOU. lol. Well, thanks for your video. It really gave me the scoop on what exactly the toilet does and how it does it. I knew a lot, but your video really saved me I think.
My plumbing supplier has muriatic acid by the gallon on the shelf. Is that a more powerful sub. for CLR. Was wondering about snaking with the proper kind of snake, to possibly clear a slower flush that backs back into the bowl, returning paper to the bowl after seemingly clearing the bowl. The speed of the flush doesn't build water height in the bowl, but returns some items back to the bowl. Only has rim holes. and.. we have hard water.
Have never been a fan of toilets without a siphon jet. Its that rush of water pushing out the waste into the drain that gets the siphoning action going (hence the name siphon jet). Without a siphon jet, and the regs for lower capacity flushing for water saving, you don't get that stronger flushing power you get when you have a siphon jet. With waste returning to the bowl you're most likely not getting a strong enough flush where at the end of the flush there's not enough force to push everything up and over the p-trap inside the toilet. As far as muriatic acid goes, it is a strong acid that works great as a descaler and can remove severe lime and calcium deposits. But, because it's an acid and with the high potency, you need to be careful when handling. Wear gloves and eye protection and be careful when pouring so as not to splash. Good luck with your projects and thanks for watching.
If you have one with a small enough diameter it'll fill the area under the rim, but it probably won't provide enough sealing against the underside of the rim to seal off the rim jets.
As a single woman who can’t afford a plumber, this video was great! I feel empowered now and will fix my toilet myself. Thank you!
Don't need to be a woman to not be able to afford a plumber.. heck, we're expensive! thanks for watching and good luck with your project.
@@thewoggerswaydiy thank you! 😊
Glad it helped you... that's my goal with my videos. good luck with your future projects.
Cool I'm pushing 60, same thing happened to mine but only when poop sometimes.. gonna do this gets better
🙏🤙
Thanks Mr.
Now about my water bill$$$……
good job
You can get a job as an instructor. You explain things clearly in simple layman's language. I was able to make my slow flushing toilet work smoothly. Hats off to you!
Thank you. Appreciate the compliment and glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Compliments still won't get you that pony you want.. now go to your room young man. p.s... That better not have been my toothbrush.
Did you use toothpaste? 🤔😯😊👍😎😊
Messed around with the flapper in the tank for hours until I found your video about the siphon jet! I used the head of a 3" screw to scrape out the interior of the jet and almost had a complete blockage cleared. Saved me a lot of time and money. Great video and info! Thank you sir!
WooHoo! Glad i was able to help. Thanks for the update and kind review. Good luck with your future projects.
Thanks
Awww thanks. Glad I was able to help. Now excuse me while I leap over a toilet in a single bound.
THANK YOU! Watched your video and fixed my toilet myself! Female age 70 and feeling like there’s nothing I can’t do!!
WooHoo. Glad for you
I just made that comment as a footnote. I found that your video probably saved me several hundred dollars. I followed your advice on checking for a clogged lower jet and I didn't realize so much hard scaley stuff could accumulate there. Clean it out with a wire and now we have the best flush in years. Thanks for your video.
Glad it worked for you.. yeah, that siphon jet can get pretty bad. Thanks for watching
This was really well done;the cut-out toilet was so helpful.
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. Good luck with your projects.
Not when you install it
Hey! This is the best video out there for a simple solution to a frustrating problem. The Throne room has been restored to its former glory. No more yelling at my poop to go away!
As long as your poop doesn't yell back then all is right in this world. Glad I could help.
Great video. Everything was explained very well and also showed how to check the drain before moving forward.
Glad you liked it
This is great help for a 43 year old nurse who's always had a man or roommate or living with her family her whole life 😅 Thank you 🙏🏼
That's what I'm here for. You don't need a man.. you got me. Hmmm, that didn't sound quite right. I'm sure yo get my meaning. Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects.
The CLR tip you displayed works amazingly!! Its like a brand new toilet now! 😊 thanks!
Glad it helped you. A little time for some maintenance sure beats having to pay for a new toilet. Good luck with your projects.
Thanks very much for your video. I have watched a couple others but yours is best.
Slow and easy and well talked out, as well as showing all the procedures.
Thanks for watching and the kind words. I do my best. Good luck with your projects
That was a perfect video love the open back so we could see what you were talking about. Very nice speaking voice Perfect thank you
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with your future projects
You are the best explaining and help to solve a lot problems ! Great work, thanks !
Thanks for the kind words and for watching. Good luck with your projects.
Glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects.
Great video, thanks. What happened to the CLR in the rim? I noticed when you pulled off the duct tape nothing came out.
Hunter Biden stole it.
WooHoo!
Thanks! 🚽
being compared to ATOH is an honor. I will try to live up to it. Thanks for watching and the nice compliment.
WOW….. after using dawn to flush toilet and no progress found this video.
Whomever you have doing the repair can get one to fit.. if you're buying the flapper just take the old one to the store with you to match them up. check out my video on toilet flappers: ua-cam.com/video/xhxK2IGpcnY/v-deo.html
Good luck with your project.
Very thorough and very well-spoken . . . hope some of it works. I had a major overflow yesterday!
God luck. Hope it worked for you. Thanks for watching
Thanks!
No, haven't experienced that phenomenon. If you've completed the cleaning process comment on how it went. Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.
Great video. 👍🏽 Curious, why does nothing pour out of the rim jets when you remove the tape? 🤔
@@thewoggerswaydiy Ahhhhh ok that makes sense haha I was thinking hmmm if nothing comes out why is the tape necessary 🤷🏻♂️😂 Thanks 👊🏽😊
Thank you so much!!! Problem solved. This has plagued me for some time and after following the steps my toilet is now working!!!
WooHoo! Glad to hear. Thanks for watching.
you are an awesome teacher! If this doesn't work, time for a new toilet.
Inquiring minds want to know... did it work? Always love to hear a success story
Thanks for a clear and concise video. I will try this on my next day off. Is it possible for the siphon jet to be TOTALLY blocked with general deposits?
Yes it it... good luck with your project... "fun" way to spend a day off
Who else was distracted by the 3M label at 15:20? Anyway, excellent video. Thanks!
Maybe I should contact 3M for a sponsorship. Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects.
Wow... This video had a lot of great information in it. There are many things that I'm going to try to see why my water levels are off. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
For a woman, that was so informative! Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful! Good luck with your projects and thanks for watching.
Not getting any water in bowl at all
I really enjoyed your video
Sorry for the later reply. Hope you got it resolved. Would need more info before i could throw my two cents in. does water go in when you flush and just not go in to fill the bowl after a flush?
Thank you. I really enjoyed you watching.
I knew all these, except the part about cleaning the siphon jet and rim "jets". This information is great, Thank you! 👍
It's always nice to learn something new. Thanks for the comments and for watching. Good luck with your projects
you clearly know what you're doing. Subscribed.
I have my moments. Good luck with your projects.
The bucket method really work I tried one time and I got my toilet to flush thanks bro🤣💪🏿
That's what I do.. haha. Glad it worked for you and thanks for watching
Thanks for the comment and good luck with all your future projects.
i feel like this guy's my dad, its 10:30 PM and I'm heading to CVS to buy a quart of CLR, thank you Woggers!
Just make sure you're home by 11 and you get all your chores done son. lol
Thank you sooo much!!
I was going crazy determining what in heaven was wrong with my toilet. I tried everything but, it turns out it was a completely clogged syphon (18 year old house). I used a metal camping stake and worked it until it slowly opened the “hole”.
Best wishes to you.😊
Yay! Love it when a problem gets solved. Good luck with your future projects.
Totally fixed my problem! Thank you so much! Your video was so helpful
Yay! That's what I like to hear. Thanks for watching.
good , concise explanations & demo... what about the flush valves that don't use a flapper? (just a barrel shape/cylinder that lifts ??
Awesome video! straight to the point no bs I like it 🤘🏻

Thank you so much we always learn if desired. Appreciate your well described actions and directions. I will try tomorrow for sure
Hope it all wet well. Thanks for watching
@thewoggerswaydiy beeig on the business doesn't makes us experts of all we always learn something 😉 appreciate it
Thank you. Can we use vinegar instead of CLR?
Yes. Vinegar works well. You'll definitely want to let it sit overnight since it takes a little longer to work than the CLR. Thanks for watching
@@thewoggerswaydiy That will save many an aching hand. 😀
After watching so many videos and buying different stuff, this video solved my toilet. It was the jets😅 clogged. Thank you so much 💗
Glad I could help! Good luck with your future projects.
Excellent video thank you so much 🙂
I hope it helps you. Good luck with your projects.
i realized what the problem was thanks to your information. My fill valve was too short for the tank. There's a fill line inside the tank and the water wasn't getting close to the line at all. So the water just stopped filling...keeping it from getting the right amount of water needed to flush. Thank you
Glad you were able to find a solution. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Pops! ....gonna try fix up or guess really cleanup grannies toilet 😷 Great vid...
thanks for watching and good luck with your project.
My flapper chain had way too much slack and my float level was a tad low. Both issues have been address and the problem of weak flushing seems to be resolved now. Thank you, good sir
Glad you were able to get your issues resoled. Thanks for watching and good luck with your future projects.
Excellent and entertaining video, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!. Thanks for watching and the nice comment
i have the flapper thing you are holding at 4:09 but my fill valve is like whats in your tank in this video. my toilet has had nothing but problems off n on for years. im beyond sick of it. i made sure everythingsw setup right just like you said in this video....... yet..... heres what happens.
Good luck. Hopefully it works out well for you. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the tips...
Obviously your a pro, you know your sh.t . Very thorough and witty too ,what more does a guy need ? Thanks for teaching me a few new tricks ( at 77 )
Never too old to learn something new.. every day is a learning experience. Thanks for watching.
The bucket test was very slow to drain, but after multiple buckets (5-6) of hot water the bowl drained normally. Thanks.
Any tips how to remove the marks without scratching the porcelain?
watched your video, then went and solved my problem. Thanks!
Glad it helped! Good luck with all your future projects
Great explanation of how the toilet works appreciate it. Thanks 😊
Glad it was helpful! Good luck wit your projects
Thanks
I was about to go to menards tomorrow to buy a new toilet, i replaced all the internals in a toilet that hasnt been used for over 2 years. I even replaced the wax ring.....it still doesn't want to flush consistently I'm going to buy some CLR tomorrow instead and recheck my flapper. This video might save me close to $400....thank you!
Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching
@thewoggerswaydiy , cleaned the rim jets, reset the flapper, got the water level correct.....flushes like she's new, $6 worth of CLR...the duct tape I already had. Your video saved me mucho dollars....thank you very much!
WooHoo. glad to hear. Saving money is always a good thing.
Great video, but how do you go on when your toilet tank isn’t easy to get too, for example in a built in unit
My sir…my Good Sir,you’ve done save my day and my bathroom..all my Respect sir 🫡
WooHoo! Love to hear that this helped. Thanks for watching and the nice comment.
Awesome video, thanks you helped me solve the problem on my own.
that's my goal. Glad was able to help.
Thank you. Your instructions worked.
Yay! Thanks for watching and the nice comment.
fixed my problem in about 30 seconds. thanks
WooHoo!
WooHoo. That's a beautiful thing, isn't it? Thanks for watching.
Thank you for making very useful video. I appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!. Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing your knowledge...
and thank you for watching
Add me to the list of people this worked for. Thanks man. Worked exactly like you said.
Glad it helped and thanks for watching
Thanks brother.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
Which strategy would work best for paper towel?
Are you referring that if you have some paper towels clogged in the toilet? if it's in the toilet drain itself, then a toilet auger should work great. There's a link to one in my comments section. if it's further down the drain line, then you may have to pull the toilet and run a snake down the drain line. Thanks for watching.
We have one of the flush valves you show and then set aside.... Toilet handle has to be held down a while to get a full flush.... Any thoughts ??
@@thewoggerswaydiy I am starting with replacement of the red seal/gasket per another video. Hopefully that corrects my issue.
Good video man I wished I saw it a year ago when mine was messing up
Thanks, appreciate it.
thanks MASTER. nice LECTURE indeed
Glad you liked it
Thanks, this was very helpful.
Thank you. Good luck with your projects
Great video and info only that its not called a flush valve on like the inlet valve its called a flush post based on the definition of what is a valve
Glad to hear the positive results. Here's hoping to another 40 yrs on it, if you don't end up replacing it.
Outstanding information
Thank you. Kind of what I was shooting for. Haha. Thanks for watching and the nice comment.
This was a life saver thank you
Uncle Bryan the Life Saver.. that has a nice ring to it. Haha. Glad you found my content helpful and thank you for watching.

Very helpful info to fix my toilet issue
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching and good luck with our projects.
Worked for me thanks for the info I had a ship on jet issue
Yay! Thanks for the comment and for watching
So while you were at it, why didnt you cleathe rust ring in the bowl? That would be a nice fix also.
That toilet was in our shop's bathroom and go a thorough cleaning afterwards. Thanks for watching.
Good job buddy, great video !!!
Thanks 👍
Will a bicycle inner tube pumped up work on sealing off those rim jets.
If you have one with a small enough diameter it'll fill the area under the rim, but it probably won't provide enough sealing against the underside of the rim to seal off the rim jets.
Problem solved! There was a toothbrush lodged in the syphon jet. Lol, Grandkids! Thank you. A lot of good information here.
Always glad to hear things work out
