Sometimes a toilet can have a weak, slow flush which prevents it from completely eliminating the waste in the bowl. This can be caused by blocked jets dues to mineral deposits. Leah demonstrates how to unclog the rim and siphon jets on a toilet. Note: a second toilet was used in some shots for practical purposes.

Great stuff!!! I'm 68 years old and this the 2nd time that I've been "toilet trained".
So easy to overlook those jet holes, and even if you regularly use a toilet bowl cleaner formulated for minerals, it only cleans the surface openings, and does not addresses the build up inside of the jet holes when you have hard water.

Leah, God bless you for eternity. After a few mediocre experts who gave me a few absurdities about fixing the slow toilet, I decided to do my own research to discover the easiest and most common sensical remedy and found you. Wow, what a genius and simple solution no 'experts' were capable enough to look at.
I did not use vinegar and duct tape, but a small pick and a hammer to gently tap through the clogged jets and rotated it to unclog the 25 jets below the rim. Now, the toilet flushes beautifully as I have never seen before. I am very grateful to you.

Thank you, Leah! As I tackled this weak flush, the jets under the rim seemed to be ok. However, when clearing out the little hole in the bottom area, a cloud of debris became to emerge - I’d say about 1/8 of a cup of buildup! Still doing the vinegar treatment & looking forward to a good flush!

Took out all the old galvanized pipes in my house and replaced them with Pex pipes. Put in a new laminate tile floor. Repaired porcelain tile grout. Textured my old plaster walls with knockdown texture. Replaced a sump pump. I'm still a girly girl who does this stuff and whines if I break a nail but won't ask for help till I've exhausted every option and ounce of energy proving I CAN DO THIS! As a 40-something year old woman I'm so happy to see you doing this and these videos. I think there's a self satisfaction/fulfillment to be able to say 'I got this'. I have to say, looking back at my childhood, there's so much my father taught me I never appreciated until I was one my own. I was an only child of a dad who is a Mr. Fix it, and as his 'helper' he taught me so much when it came to home repairs. I was the kid on the block who knew how to use table saws and drill presses, knew what each tool was and what they were used for etc. I've rarely required hiring help over the years unless it was a really big job (I've even done my own bathroom remodel, wood floor replacement, etc). He didn't just teach me how to fix stuff, but how to be self sufficient. While I love my husband very much, he is the complete opposite when it comes to fixing things...it's 100% my job in the house and I'm fine with it. I've done my best to pass this stuff on to my son.

Good video. The first thing to do is to quicky pour a bucket of a gallon or more of water into the bowl. If it flushes normally, the drain and internal toilet trap are clear. If not focus on clearing the toilet trap and drain pipe (plunger, closet auger). Make sure the water level in the tank is at the fill line or if not marked about an inch below the top of the overflow pipe. Adjust as needed. If all this is ok, follow the cleaning procedures in the video. In my case, the small rim holes were clear and the problem was the siphon jet at the bottom. Much of the water and force comes from this. I used a small wooden stick to clear some mineral deposits and will buy a small brush to maintain it. All orifices need to be clean as there is not a lot of water to work with. Newest models use even less water. My old 5 gallon toilets that these replaced never had this problem and I bet some holes were plugged after 45 years but there was so much water they still fushed.

I've been noticing this very problem recently, and you showed me an easy first-try fix, using my favourite household remedy, vinegar. I'll try it right now. Thanks.

Excellent video thanks. This is the only practical solution I could find so far on UA-cam to fix my lazy flash. We found the syphon hole was completely plugged up. After several attempts descaling the hole we brought it back to new condition. Now because of this video we have a awesome flush. I was heading towards spending big bucks to replace every valve in my toilet. But this video shows that you have to troubleshoot very carefully to find out what the real problem is. At worst I just had to get a set of smaller wire brushes so I could descale that hole. This is the first time I have ever made a UA-cam comment. It shows how impressed I am with your solution and the fact it works so well. God bless

Recently, I have had to unplug siphon jets in the bottom of the bowl. Calcium & other minerals collect and cause a sluggish flush. Not all toilets use a siphon jet, but many do.

I had this problem for years, I tried a lot of things to fix it, then I ran across ZEP acidic toilet bowl cleaner at Menards. Get yourself a cheap hand transfer pump from Harbor Freight to empty the toilet bowl then add the ZEP to the bowl and from the tank outlet to clean the jets. The calcium and lime buildup will dissolve. And the toilet will work like a new one!

Great video! I'm going to give this a try. I take the vinegar to my coffee machine every month or so. Why not pour the vinegar to my toilet once a year especially if it requires multiple flushes to do it's job.
