    As I am sitting here doing my nails & watching your video, I was so happy to find out that the natural curve I have is something people aspire to achieve, I always thought it was such a pain having this very pronounced curve, now I wont think of my nails as "problem nails", thanks Suzie, I have learned so much from your videos :)

    Hi Dear, I'm a nail instructor/educator. In one of my master classes we were taught not to do the pinching method because it can cause Onycholisis. Can you educate us more on that thought? Thank you so much for always teaching correct procedures. I was especially grateful (in this video) for your teaching of how not to ever mix different brand lines.

    • @nola1439
      @nola1439 6 років тому +7

      Barb Hughes Chapman excessive pinching or pinching done wrong can lead to problems, but if done properly, it is fine and is in fact better for the strength and durability of the acrylics. In order to do it properly, you should pinch above the nail bed, and if you want to be extra safe, you can’t try to only pinch past the entire natural nail, but it might not look right if the natural nail is long. By only pinching the acrylic and not the nail bed, there is no harm done to try natural nail. Pinching is a great way to very dramatically improve the look of wide flat nails.

      I'm in a manicurist class at the moment and I feel like onycholysis wouldnt be a problem if you pinched just the free edge. It would probably start happening if you were to pinch really hard near the nail bed area, though... I prefer how nails look when they are pinched. I've also heard that they are stronger with the different structure they have. I wish it was something they taught at my school... Im just gonna get my own pinching tool and teach myself though.

    I wore acrylics for 22 years and I loved them. I took them off trying to cut expenses. I miss them everyday. After I took them off, I remembered why I got them. Polish doesn't stay on my very thin nails and my nails peel. I have had them off for 17 months and am still trying to get them to look good

    • @SeabassFishbrains
      @SeabassFishbrains 8 років тому +7

      I have the same kind of nails that you do and my best recommendation is to go with two coats of basecoat, two coats of color, and one coat of topcoat, otherwise known as a 5-wrap. Never ever pick or peel at the polish (that's what peels your nail the most), always remove polish with acetone then immediately follow up with cuticle oil and never ever buff or clip your nails (to shorten them, file in one direction with a glass file, it wont actually take much time). That routine helped me grow out all the peeling and damage and as long as I never left my nails naked for more time than it took to file them and do the cuticles, I could keep them longer. Growing out damage takes time (months) and it sucks but it's doable!

    • @annnaam
      @annnaam 6 років тому +1

      annie bee thats why i use gel polish, keeps my nails from breaking easily, the key is to remove them well without peeling, only acetone.

    • @lisasaddler7300
      @lisasaddler7300 6 років тому

      annie bee hi Annie I have thin nails also. I remove my acrylics once a year in the spring, just to give them the sunlight and air. I go back to my acrylics just before the summer. The one advantage of keeping my nails covered is that the nail beds have grown out longer than before I started using acrylic. My natural nails look amazing but are still thin.

    Hi Suzie! I'm 15 years old and I've had some pretty bad nail salon experiences, plus getting your nails done here in NYC can be really expensive when looking for as great quality as yours. I wanted to (because I enjoy art like makeup art and nail art and such) start trying to develop the skills to do my own nails, acrylics are what I wanted to try. Since I don't exactly want to shop aimlessly, I wanted to know if there are any must-have's for doing your own acrylics, and where you would recommend getting them. Thanks, I love your videos!

      I'm a educated nail tech as well but since you are first starting I would recommend using an easy brand that doest dry fast so u have time to shape the acrylic I would start out using the asp brand from your local sallys they also have brushes but when I get a little better would recommend but a good kolinski brush online

    • @samanthawallace5953
      @samanthawallace5953 8 років тому +8

      I would definitely stick with ASP that's what I started out with until I got comfortable with my application. Then I tried the ibd gel too which I found to be really easy and last so much longer than acrylic. Now I have a wide range of my favorite brands and do various things, always remember practice makes perfect and a good nail prep makes for longer lasting enhancements!

    Thank you for posting this Suzie! It's so important for people to know how and when it pinch. Anyone can get a pinching tool on eBay, but it's crucial to know when and how to use it because if they pinch too late, they can do some serious damage to their nail plate. Very useful information. All the best.

    when i was working as a nail tech to pay for my university, I remember most of my clients didn't know what pinching was, when I did their nails including the pinching technique it changed their world and would not have them other way!, they just look so pull together and very natural. And it works great specially with bitters who usually have really flat and wide nail beds.

    I watch these videos before I go to bed. I am a guy, but Suzie's voice is just that relaxing and a topic random enough that will help me go to sleep. Can we please, please, please have a video of the cameraman doing Suzie's nails. It would be so funny!
