- This is up close actual video footage of the fastest set of acrylic nails done this last April of 2013 in Pasadena Ca. There is also an interview with Amy Becker before the footage that describes how she prepared and what happened at the event. Because Amy's time upset the former record holder, many accusations were thrown around by spectators who didn't know the rules. Amy did extensive preparation for this event which included sculpting 2-3 sets of acrylic nails a day for weeks before this competition. She makes it look easy but it was anything but. Watch her as she sculpts the acrylic for one hand while using pressure on a finger of the other hand to make sure the forms don't fall off!
That's actually quite clever. I was wondering what she was doing until she removed the forms from the nails.
This industry is built on innovation. Stop with the hate. CONGRATS AMY!!! A fellow Wisconite!!!
_work smarter, not harder. good job haha._
+Kæla Isnt that what the accusing team leader has been teaching for years. "Work smarter not harder, nails are always fun at a nail party?" New and inventive innovative ways revolving techniques to Sculpturing Pink and White nails. paper forms are molds too, the tip form is reversing the same process. I am happy Amy has the record, she worked for it!
_ummm, yep? lol._
I’m all for smarter not harder! Way to go! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
To all who said she cheated ...
If you want to be petty because she used duals , then you need to be mad at the creators of the rules because they DID NOT SPECIFY what kind of forms. Suck it up people. Suck it up .
E wow1wowwwqwqo ewe es este el ❤😊❤😊😊😂😊😊😊🎉😊🎉 e el equipo de trabajo y la ow oeoeoeoeoeoeeooewowwoodwiwwowowoowwo eeoeoeooe ooo wowwowo owowwowowowwowowwooowowwowoowwowwowoeoeoeoowowoowwoowwwowowowoowwow2owowwowowwoowwowowoo 😂
With 12 years experience working with lawyers, I understand what you did, you came up with a genius idea by thinking out of the box without breaking the rules. I bet you went over the rules over and over to make sure you didn't break any by just thinking out of box. The average person wouldn't have thought of that. That's how lawyers think when their looking for a needle in a hay stack when their working on their client's cases. Good job!!
I googled the forms you were using and they were in fact forms NOT tips. She did not cheat.
What kind of forms were they?
Linda Gonzalez-Johns They're called "dual forms".
What the heck are you even talking about? Please go back to elementary school and fix up that grammar, and go to rehab and fix that brain of yours from all those drugs. And please... it's UA-cam. I can comment whatever I like.
Oh So Glam they are basically press ons lol
People are just mad because she thought outside the box, but I can see how they might have thought she was cheating. Well haters are going to hate.
Thank you so much everyone!
Awesome job
Hey is there anything that you can tell a first acrylic nail user
Oh So Glam u need to add me on Facebook and Instagram I need help too, I'm a beginner.
Amy Becker you deserved it! Tammy Taylor doesn't know how to loose. Let the name calling go. You won fair and square.
Great job! My heart was pounding. Everyone is mad because u were just a lil smarter then they were. I'm always the person looking for the loop holes. The rules didn't say you couldn't use the forms, so good job. Good luck on your future competitions...
+Shadawna Perkins Thank you!
Awesome win, Amy! Using acrylic nail forms instead of paper forms was incredibly creative. I love that your unqiue spin created a clean shiny surface, almost no buffing, and the competition was for the fastest finished nails. You just used a common nail form in a very imaginative and creative way by sculpture in reverse- and set the record. How cool is that? No regrets, you beat the competition with a new rendition, like a true artist.
People don't like change, and they most certainly don't like it when things are done differently and they weren't aware they could do that. I strive to be as good a nail artist - tech as you are. Fabulous job and congratulations!
please enjoy your win. It seems to me that you worked hard and fast for your win.
Nikomii Butler thank you!!!❤
The industry is built on imagination and innovation, congrats Amy!
Many places should learn this technic.
What a genius! Anyone mad at that is just sorry because they didn't think to do something like that. Great ideas do not come from people who cut corners and this lady definitely had a great idea. That's skill.
I've had the honor of attending a few of her classes in cedarberg, WI and I can attest to her humility and drive to performing smarter not harder. she is innovative and definitely someone i look up too as a nail technician. her masterworks gel products are completely out of this world and if you have the chance to go to one of her classes, please do. its a life changer. I know she will continue to push ahead in the industry and make the necessary changes that are needed as far as products.
I am licensed in Pa and I don't see why people are just so petty and accusing you of cheating when what you did looks like it would've taken tons of EXTRA time beforehand and work as well and I truly believe that this method of applying full sets could become very popular with slight modifications and obviously more time to perfect the arch in the "tip".. Which is why I assume you would never do it for a paying customer since the method is so raw and new/ but you really are so genius to have come up with it with the people you worked with... I'm glad to see the field growing and evolving:)
I was thinking this could become a cool way of embedding things into the tips, like if you dropped something in the form, like a large jewel and then did the tip acrylic over it, then when flipped it would be on the top of the nail, but embedded in the tip, not just glued on the top. Obviously you would take your time and make it perfect, and you could do the rest of the nails the normal way if it only needed to be embedded in an accent nail or something. Innovation comes from competition. If your not worried about being faster or better than someone else, you don't think about ways to get there.
If the contest rules didn't prohibit the use of forms, then she didn't cheat. There is nothing wrong with innovation and creative problem solving to get a job done more efficiently. Interesting video and a great resource for learners.
That was amazing! Props to you, girl!
Starts at 6:50 btw
thanks
thank you😂😂you a life saver fam
thanks man your a life saver😂😂
omg thank you
Thank you
nailed it
lol
my heart was pounding for you wonderful work..
Well let me start by saying kudos to you @amy becker for winning the contest. Its obvious to me from watching the footage that you had an official sitting at the table with you, and then there was an official that checked each nail individually, and the materials that you used were in plain sight of both officials. Im sure being called a cheater and people being, indignant about their opinion must have been very disconcerting. But if you don't mind me saying so, I find it humorous that these people didn't read the rules and understand them as you did, plus you made the nails upside down and backwards faster than they could do it. This sounds like a case of pure jealousy to me. So don't let these people get you down, enjoy your win.
JEALOUSY just like you said haha
From one nail tech to another.....Congratulations on such an exciting win!!
If it wasnt in the rules..you deserve it ..I been a fan of your work for years congrats.....good job..
Thank you!
that was nuts! im still a student but omg that blew me away, great job!!
+Eva Kirszenstein Thank you Eva!
I love it. Been a nail tech since 1992 but only do my daughter and myself now. Never heard of dual forms or where to get them but I need them. Would be perfect for quick nails before a dance or wedding.
Hmmm, Looked fair to me! When you spank someone's tail, the loser always has something to say. You keep doing you, and enjoy that win!
After seeing the longer footage I am NO fan of Tammy Taylor that was just rude. These are forms and yes you do have to sculpt in them instead of on top.
Marisa Noriega Wait, where did she say anything about Tammy Taylor? Did I miss something?
+Ashley Imagines At the end of the competition Tammy stands up, turns to her followers and holds up an old certificate as if to say she's still the winner. Her poor sport behavior was incredibly tacky and classless.
+MoBo72 WHAT!? that is so tasteless!!!!
MoBo72 she even made a video saying she still holds the record.
Tammy is a mouth even in her OWN videos, Great work if you MUTE her... ( can't say I'm surprised, however, I will say its distasteful behavior from ANY human to be so BRAG worthy).
I think that you are amazing for being so innovative. Whenever someone challenges the norm people react in unimaginable ways. I can say with confidence that I will NEVER use Tammy Taylor products based on how she conducted herself in the full footage video. I am appalled that whoever was hosting this event even allowed the crowd to make comments like that too. So sorry you had to experience that, I would have just burst into tears and I commend you for being so strong in the moment!
wow!!!! that was the most wild thing i have saw in my 42 years on earth!! congrats to you..
Amy - congratulations on a competition well done! You deserved to win, hands down. Whenever something new is introduced, especially when it includes progressive thinking (thinking outside of the box) there are always going to be individuals who feel some how done something was done unfairly. We work in an industry where thinking outside of the box is crucial to our success and you proved this point in your approach to the competition and then by winning. Great job! As a 17 year veteran nail tech and professional nail designer, you have my deepest respect and admiration.
I've learned in my life that ppl will always wanna rain on your parade. Take it in stride, I think you did awesome and congrats to you.. Yes, I realize this is an old post but you can never have to many congrats..
+Christine DAngelo Thank you!
PARADE RAAAAIIIIN❤️❤️❤️
Hello I'm an aspiring nail technician in the Caribbean this video gave me so much hope people will always try to pull you down but that was awesome wow keep doing the good work. Much love for Lucian
I am a licensed nail tech from NC and all I can say is "You Go Girl and Keep Giving God the Glory!"
I watched the raw version and those ladies were nasty. I don't think there was much difference in using the duo forms versus their paper forms. Good job.
Anytime you come up with an idea nobody else thought of, somebody will be mad they didn't think of it first! lol I am confused as to why Tammy made a video after the competition claiming she won? Not claiming she "feels" she won but that she actually did....she states in the video that she still holds the record.
WOW!!! I don't understand why anyone would say anything bad about you. You're amazing. I wish I could be just half as good as you are. The only reason anyone would say mean things about you is because they are jealous. You're awesome! Keep up the great work that you do.
Wowwww screw negativity that was AMAZIIING!!!!!! I'm still in awe with that insane technique. You deserve that title. Congrats Amy!!!
congratulations just ignore the negative people they are probably jealous they never thought of using your technique x
That was awe-inspiring & fascinating to watch! You go, girl!!!
From where I'm sitting those nails look perfect, I just wish someone where i live in Scotland UK could do this, thanx for sharing Amy
Aww yes! Congratulations! I was biting MY nails while you were doing hers! Ahahah! Although I know you won, I was like "GO GO GO GO. THEY LOOK FINE. JUST CALL IT." LOL. Who cares what others say. You used technique. That deserves an award in itself.
I just saw the video of your fastest set that was incredible. I alsobwatched the video with the negative comments it truly gets me upset because we are all nail professionals. Just because you thought out of the box while still staying within the rules. I would have done the same thing what is the difference if you form it from above then underneath they are both forms in my eyes. So I say congratulations on your win regardless of the negativity that is what makes us stronger. A fan from Idaho Yogi from unDone salon in Boise,ID.
Guess you can say...
She NAILED it...
Yeah..
imma just go. 😂
Can I get my nails done by her?
Wow words can explain how astonishing and what a talent, for you to come up with such an unusual strategy you deserve the trophy!
I'm so happy for you. Good idea! Great job!
She indeed sculptured the nails and the competition didn't state that dual forms is not allow. She came up with an ideal to fulfil what the competition asked in the faster way. I don't think that consider as cheating.
You did an excellent job and created a way to earn $35 every 10 mins, I think that is beautiful. Don't worry about the nay sayers they are just mad.
I'm like so involved with this drama now haha. I've loved Tammy and she was all excited. But I love how clever you were. Amazing.💅🏼💅🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You were pretty much the first to do what everyone is doing today! You’re a Master!!!!
You are a true professional...You explained yourself and the circumstances thoroughly. Great win! I think Tammy was a poor sport in all of this. The way she stood up and wanted people to cheer for her, even though you had just won, was truly sickening. Shame on her. Keep your chin up. You came off far better....kudos
Thank you so much for your kind words, Sandie. :-)
Tammy Taylor has always been over rated and a bit of a stuck up snob. I had the unfortunate luck to have met her in 97 and she was soo snob-ish. Her acrylic sucks, imo.
Btw, that was an awesome demo, I've never seen anything like it. I'm gonna have to try that out. You deserve the award!!
Never saw nails being done that way. Omg amazing!!!
I don't care what anyone says. You sculpted those nails. They came out beautiful. You should be extremely proud of yourself. 👏
I know this is a cpl yrs old but I found u this past yr & ur work is ABSOLUTELY breath taking & flawless!💜💓💓💜 ANYBODY who knows ur work or u for that matter should know u didn't cheat! Most were just mad they didn't think of it!😲 Anyway congrats for thinking out of the box & just wish I lived closer so I could meet & take a class with u! you freaking rock!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
You were very innovative in the way you used your products. You thought outside the box and clearly did your research beforhand. Congrats on your win! You just gained a new fan:)
I used dual forms for the first time last week. Boy did I find them difficult to use probably because I have long nails. Lol you make it look soooooo easy! Great job, congratulations! ! Xxx
Wow! just wow! That's amazing how fast and beautiful they are. I'm just getting started with my nail tech career. You are inspiring. :)
I'm starting out professionally and watched another video covering this event.. I couldn't understand why there was so much aggression from the other participants cheering corner.. Thank you for clarity. Congrats on a proper win! Like the others say, you were innovative! xoxo
this is dual form not tip,so she won fair and square
I saw the competition early this year and thought you did a very impressive job, well done.
Wow! That was awesome! The forethought and practice it must have taken is amazing and the idea to do it backwards so the white tips cured first and then to flip it so the pinks stuck directly to the nail was what made it NOT cheating...no gluing, no tips. How is that so different from creating a nail on top of a form? I think it was great! I think innovation is what is the point of the competition is, otherwise no one would make advancements in the art of nails. This way you did it make me think of cool things that could be done like setting things like jewels into the mold and putting the acrylic over it so when flipped they are on top, but embedded into the acrylic rather than on top. Good for you! And holding one firm on top of a finger while continuing to work on the others??? Wow!
+Amy Becker I didn't tag you in my comment.
simply impressive, I wish I could do even a decent full set, you deserve to win, not only using wit but skill. simply impressive ;)
Congratulations on your win! Im sooooo glad that you didnt let thr negative people abd their rudeness get you out of character. I dont feel as a "pioneer" in the nail industry she should have even reacted the way she did. That made me look at her different. But you did that and you won FAIR & SQUARE!
You thought outside the box , intelligence and talent are rare put them together, you will get haters ,well done girl you deserve that trophy 100% , just because other people didn't think the way you did , let them hate, you carry on being a winner 😃
This was very creative. Those bulldog clips were ingenious.
I just saw this video. Let me just say you did that Amy Becker. Much talent and efficiency. Glad you won the competition.
I've had my nails done since 1980 and I have to say that is the most amazing system. The longest I've gone without acrylic is 1 year. I would love to have a new set put on with that system. FABULOUS!
I've never seen anything like this before! you did an amazing job!
That was so cool!!!!!!!! Forget all the negative. You deserve to win! I've never seen anything like that before! (:
genius. absolutely genius. i can tell how much you had to put into every step and practice w products to debut this. wow. thank you for sharing!!!
All I can say its WOW' Great job and super fast. I only use dual form on my clients and believe me its fast, Amy sure proved it. Congrats.
Congratulations! Beautifully done! Awesome techniques as well and The nails looks nice too.
I can't imagine what that was like sitting in that chair while getting yelled at by all those people. Congratulations for keeping your cool, and for also inventing a system within the guidelines that shaved off so much time.
(My English is not my first language, I am a self taught. I hope you understand if you find a grammatical mistake)
The last time I saw you, you were at NAILPRO Pasadena 2013 and I felt very shy to get closer or even say hi to you. I sincerely admire you so much. You are an example for me. For that reason I wanted to try myself the competitions and I tried twice in 2013 in the flat paint novice category The Eyes have it All (I saw you won!) on Long Beach and 3D on Pasadena. Both times I felt very nervous and didn't win a trophy or any of the first places. On my first competition I felt so overwhelmed and ! stayed at the very back of the award winning room at the Long Beach Convention Center. I met Tom Holcomb's brother there... from far away too >.<
In both opportunities I felt so out of my league. I recall thinking "what am I doing here?"... Then I read your article for NailPro Magazine and discovered you felt the same way, just like me, on the first time you competed! Today, with your video, you are like... opening a different door. Winning does not mean you are having all the glory but more than that! You became stronger for me in this video! There's people out there trying to over shade your accomplishments, it is not your fault if they do not give a try themselves and decide to stay behind. You are growing stronger before their eyes and, with all my respect, maybe they do not like to feel weaker...not even realize it! Your winning is not making you morally stronger but the struggles you are facing after all those name callings are developing your inner strength... because you are going through hardships and decided not to surrender. There are some changes in the rules for this year which were different last year about the use of forms. Last year you were competing under the NAILPRO rules and all the well trained judges witnessing your work were ok with the innovative way you were sculpting nails. Last year also I heard a lot of negative criticism for Jhon Hauk when he won the longest nail... To witness all that negativity after someone wins made me feel afraid of even trying another competition. But then, right before ISSE Long Beach 2014, I happen to find your video. This video! So...I am not quitting the competitions. I am not quitting on you Amy... I will be competing again and again and then, when I win I will show you my trophy :D
Thank you so much for your kind words! Please introduce yourself to me next time you see me!!! I want to know who you are. Can I share what you just wrote in an upcoming issue of Nailpro Magazine?
Yes Amy, I will be more than glad to meet you :) I will be on ISSE at Long Beach and right now I am working on my competition work. I feel very nervous now! but very happy also :D And yes, you can share it on Nailpro Magazine, you are very kind Amy :)
It was so nice to meet you too Amy! Yes Amy, thank you so much for the consideration :) I sent an email to you today.
I can't love this more!!!!! I've watched it so many times since Jeri shared it at school and it still blows my mind! You rock Amy!!!!
Holy crap! Amazing! You are really blessed with that talent :) i actually thought i sped up the video a little bit but you just worked so fast haha. It took me over 2 hours to put on 1 nail and it looked so ugly xD
Incredible and a well deserved win!
That was awesome!! Such an inspiration🙌🏼
amazing speed, coordination and skill!!! wow!
Congratulations!!! You did an amazing job!
They're just jealous they didn't think of it first. I think you did a great job and earned that title!
I didn't even know about these contests, but I just watched the whole contest video and I feel sorry that you had to go through that. You were smart enough to use dual forms, so what? Each contest has the right to come up with the best idea and it was within the rules. Sometimes people are mean trying to yell that you cheated and the other lady was the one who deserved it....she was great too, but you really worked hard and faster than the rest, so it was a well deserved mention and prize....keep it up with pride! CONGRATULATIONS!
Way to go! Clever Lady...... I wish they were this fast in the nail shop! I like those form nails also. It makes all the nails come out perfect. Wish they used those also....
Really impressed with the whole time saving system you put together, down to using the foam block to fill, then flipping it over... Really brilliant!
As you said, this is not a beauty/perfect looking nail work, but it's amazing your speed and coordination and the awesome ideas you came up with to help you keep the molds in place without smashing the products. This is definetly a time saver if you work under less stress for a salon work. I would definetly give it a try (in a more relaxed way... probably in like 30 min or something, since doing the regular way can take me up to 1h...or more). This is awesome! And, honestly, can be a money maker for many people!
you will find haters of your creativity everywhere you go, hater are your motivators, it seem to me they are just mad because they did not think of it first. keep moving forward i think it was awesome. skill is skill no matter what tools you use.
Absolutely brilliant
You did a great job nails look awesome
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen!
Woooow!! Your the best!! You have inspired me like you have no idea. Thank you!!!
If you just want to see what you came for skip to 6:50
EliseMcKinney _ I came for the whole thing
wow amazing. my heart was beating fast when competition started. i could only imagine how you felt :)
YES! YOU WON FAIR AND SQUARE. You are gracious
professional, and deering enough to use the molds. You still sculptured in side of the mold. I eas disappointed eith the sideline spectators and that company that had such a sore losing behavior. No team spirit at all. Too bad, but again CONGRADULATIONS!
Thank you so much!
if what she did was considered cheating I'm pretty sure the judges would have disqualify her for it so obviously she wasn't cheating the judges didn't get say anything so some ppl need to stop hating. Good job girl.
+CozBitch06 Thank you! I wish I had added to the video what the competition director did after the competition ended. The competition director has over 25 years of competing and competition directing experience so this isn't someone new at it. She has seen a lot of out of the box and new innovative techniques used in nail competitions. Sometimes it improves our competition work when it's accepted and other times she will change the rules for future competitions so that it can't be used again. It's up to her and her experience.
With that being said, when I used my own techniques for this competition, it's not the first time a competitor did something no one else thought of. She even told me this was not the vision the she had for this competition. When the competition ended, she went back over the rules several times and told everyone that she rechecked the rules and found that I followed them and did not break any rules. She would have disqualified me on the spot if I hadn't. Then in private she told me that she actually looked for a rule to disqualify me but couldn't because I followed them completely. It was on her that she didn't add any extra rules and she always sticks to the rules she's written. Hind sight is 20/20 but she has always stuck with the rules she wrote whether the outcome was what she wanted or not. This is what makes for a great competition director or person. When I make mistakes, I own them, not make up something to justify what I've done. One of the worst things to happen in a competition is to have a competition director enforce a rule she believes in but didn't write. I have had this happen to me more than once and it wasn't for an "out of the box" technique. I even had one competition director years ago that just wanted to put herself above everyone by putting competitors down in front of others when she was asked to clarify a rule and even change the rules just before a competition began.
Unless you are a competitor, it can be hard to understand. After you have spent countless hours practicing and thousands of dollars on registration and travel expenses (this is not an exaggeration), you will have a different appreciation of what goes into these competitions. It's kind of like, don't judge anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes.
+Amy Becker I commend your ingenuity using the nail forms to speed up the sculpting process and I also congratulate you on your win. As a standalone technique, it's awesome. However...
While I agree that you may not have broken the rules as written, clearly the competition director didn't find your technique to be in the spirit of the contest, and neither did the competitors. Apparently, neither the competitors nor the director interpreted the rules the same way as you, which gave you an unfair advantage. If the majority of the competitors interpreted the rules to mean sculpting directly on the nail bed, then the spirit of the competition was not upheld by your technique. This is why the competitors and the director tried to find fault so they could to disqualify you. However, it is also true that it was the competition's mistake in not making the rules more explicit which allowed this win. It then makes perfect sense what the other competitors said of your technique. You even admitted in the opening of this video that this is not a technique that you would ever employ in your own salon. This meant that you also understood the spirit of the competition, but chose to use this technique instead.
With all of that said, because you followed the documented rules to the letter (or rather, took advantage of loopholes in those rules), I, again, congratulate you on your ingenious win. Just know that it's not likely you (or anyone else) will be able to use it again in that kind of competition. Sometimes people do win competitions by a technicality. This is an example of a win by technicality. It's still a win, yes. People will now remember you as that person who won the contest by using a dubious technique and won on a technicality. Assuming the competition changed the rules to prevent the use of this technique in the future says what it needs to say about the legitimacy of the technique (no matter how ingenious) in relation to this type of contest.
Not all of us understand how to sculpt acrylic nails, but we all understand when someone wins a competition by a technicality. When entering competitions, it's always best to get clarification about the spirit of a competition from the actual competition staff rather than looking for rule loopholes to gain an unfair contest advantage. In competitions, it's always better to win fair and square based on the contest spirit (and by following the rules) than it is to win by a technicality based solely on the rule book. Because of your technical win, it is completely understandable why there was so much grumbling by the other competitors at the end of the contest.
+abigguitar I completely respect your opinion. I'm glad you brought up "In the spirit of the competition". It's something that I didn't even think to address. I think you've captured that better than anyone who's disagreed with this win.
This also makes me realize one of the most important things I haven't addressed in this video/thread.
I successfully competed in acrylic nail competition for around 8 years when I started using gels and then had to develop new techniques so that they could compete with acrylics. I have been competing with gels in the competition arena using my own techniques for 15 years. When I first wanted to compete with them, I had conversations with competition directors in order for them to allow it. They did happily. They knew and saw that the techniques I used were entirely different from the techniques used with acrylics. It was "in the spirit of the competition" to produce the best set of sculptured nails. It took me 3 years of competing and perfecting my techniques in the competition arena before I placed 1st again.
Did these new techniques give me an unfair advantage? No. They were simply a different way to sculpt a set of nails. Since I've been competing with gels, rules have changed. Most of the rule changes have been with application techniques that apply equally to acrylic and gels.
If we didn't create new techniques, the competition arena would consist of the same work, year after year, without improvement. New techniques in the competition arena are responsible for the best results in the nail industry and they are HIGHLY encouraged. Had I pointed this out at the onset of this video, maybe some opinions would have been different but I understand that with innovation there will always be those who resist change.
The reason I point this out is because it set precedence. Developing new techniques is encouraged in the competition arena. This is what creates growth, better techniques for the nail industry as a whole and the ability to shorten our time with nail services while achieving a better quality nail. It's about working in the salon; smarter, not harder.
You also pointed out what I said about the techniques I used in this competition not being techniques I would ever use in the salon. That brings up an equally good point that I didn't expound on.
There are very many techniques used in nail competitions that we would never use in the salon both in sculptured nail competitions and in nail art competitions. Nails in a true sculptured competition are extremely thin and don't hold up for very long. Most models have them chipped and broken in the first day if they aren't filed down. Moons are also mandatory in this competition because one person (Tom Holcomb) many years ago created them giving him the "edge" in sculptured competitions. It wasn't frowned upon. It was embraced. To this day we don't do them in the salon (it creates a problem when they grow out) but love the end result.
"Different" in the competition arena has not been considered "not in the spirit of the competition" but rather the driving force behind it's excellence. I have been competing in nails longer than any competitor past or present giving me a unique perspective of this.
One final note... I did compete in this competition the following year, after the rule change, and won.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to this thread in a professional manner and with such detail.
This was beautifully! Congrats!
I just love this video she is so confident and did such good work after much time and thought went it to complete and she did. Good job !!
Wonderful. Let the haters hate...you won fair and square! Clever girl you are.
Amy Becker - #1 hacker of acrylic nails! These will NOT chip & look strong enough for a PE teacher.
You blew _my_ frickin' mind 🤯
Good for you. You deserve the record! Hope there was prize money too. Haters gonna hate, screw em.
I'm so gonna _try_ this on myself, just _much, much, much slower!_ 🤗from this🍁gal.
