I didn’t want the story to end - why was the writer in town, enquiring minds want to know 🤪. I’m not a fan of mice but can’t wait to see all the stuffed ones, nor am I a fan of insects but from the safety of my screen I can admire the camera work, and the piano playing was lovely and distracting. The accompanying piano music at the end took me right back to a very early piano exam, probably Grade one or two.!! Several of your pieces have been ones I’ve “had” to play but todays made me comment as I found myself playing along on the table top 🙂
Some of these early pieces are just so pretty, aren't they? When I started doing recordings, I decided to mostly stick to easier pieces and try to play them well! xx

I am still enjoying wandering through your previous episodes as I quietly stitch on my sampler! What a wonderful descriptive story you read. I really wish that children today had that kind of content to enjoy and enrich their minds. I’m looking forward to seeing Durham. Ive mentioned in a previous comment that I have connections to Co. Durham via my grandad who was a miner in West Stanley. He and my grandma eventually lived in Sunderland and we had many happy holidays as children in the 1960s on the beach at Seaburn, jumping the waves to keep warm! And a vivid memory of visiting a great uncle and aunt at their cottage beside the War Memorial in Burnopfield. I live in Manchester but hope to come up and spend some time re visiting these places, especially the Beamish Museum. Hope you had a lovely holiday. Take care.

I have been watching and enjoying all your old podcasts from the beginning and you mentioned a 'proggy mat' in several episodes. I have never heard this term before and am wondering if I have missed a video of you making one. But what exactly is a proggy mat? I was also a piano teacher in my younger days and have recently started to teach my 3 granddaughters (aged 5,6 and 9). Is there a particular tutor book that you could recommend please? (I have started them on Get Set Piano, but there is so much going on on each page, it can be quite distracting.) I should really make a start on my mouse! Hope you had a good trip despite the weather!

Proggy mats are known by different names in different areas, but basically it's a kind of rag rug, where small pieces of fabric are pushed through hessian to form a dense mass of rags. I really must make a start on mine!!! Maybe you have just given me the incentive that I need. I agree, many piano tutor books have pages that are rather cluttered. Amongst my pupils, a big favourite is the Wunderkeys series - Primer books 1, 2 and 3 - and I also love Piano Safari book 1 which has a very 'clean' look to the presentation and is rather an interesting approach! We had a wonderful trip, thank you, and I will look forward to sharing it with you! xx

Hi Tammy - thank you! I'm afraid can't find a way of making my email address in the description box become a "live" link, so hopefully you can copy the address and paste it into your email... I even had Phil in here looking at the problem and he was unable to work it out, even though he's very good at this sort of thing! xx
