A quick tip: cut the two cardboard hearts at right angles to each other. Having the corrugations go in different directions creates an incredibly sturdy backing piece.

Felting those lil bits turns out with a softer look too. I rub all my left over yarn between my hands & pull apart the ply on longer left overs. The blended colours look soft & wispy. Blues, greys & whites remind me of fluffy clouds when finished 🧶🧶🧶
if you do resin crafts, you shd probly try a top layer with that, cuz plain glue may not hold up for the heavy use of coasters (as anyone who's used drinks directly on cheap wood may kno, lol) 😅
This is such a cute idea. It should be "using leftover yarn" though. Thread is fused for sewing on a sewing machine but yarn is for knitting and crocheting. This, therefore is yarn. Love your creativity.

The yarn has glue all over it, so what makes it stick to the paper heart but not the paper on top you are ironing on? Plus there are too many unknows in this video. If she doesn't want to talk at least put it in captions on each step. How hot is the iron? How long do you iron it for? Why doesn't the yarn stick to the paper on top while ironing?

I was thinking it could even make a great hanging spinner ornament if one could see the back too lol maybe use parchment paper cut into shapes to match resin molds then after the design is made, separate the paper from it & put the yarn itself in the resin mold & fill with resin of choice (glittery, shimmering, etc) & so on.. voila, 3D artpiece! 😍💜
This is a really lovely idea. I've just finished making the J W Anderson patch cardigan made famous by Harry Styles for my daughter's birthday. Wish I'd seen this earlier. I have loads of scrap ends and would have made this as a keepsake label to go with it. Planning to make her one in autumn colours next so I'll be using your idea for that one. Thankyou for sharing. Wow, on comments. Going to loose people because of saying thread instead of yarn!! World is messed up enough on what words to use.. it's a fun technique and uses up your scraps of yarn or thread. If large project use yarn. Smaller ones use thread.. I've used embroidery thread,do this technique but you sew over the thread. Could fo yarn too,I never have.. just enjoy it and have fun.

I made this craft yesterday. For some reason, when I ironed over the yarn with paper on top , the yarn stuck to both upper and lower papers. I had used a hot dry iron. After peeling what I could off one paper and putting it back onto the other, I used a cooler steam and it worked with the exception of a few strands.

Here’s some info on just one type of yarn… Acrylic yarn is made from petroleum based chemicals, it is not a natural fiber, it is a fossil fuel-based fiber. Many of us crocheters and knitters will not use it because of this. Some people may have a reaction to it. DuPont originally made it in the 1940’s. To make acrylic yarn, coal-based and petroleum chemicals are treated with monomers to become acrylonitrile, which is a synthic polymer, they are then further treated with chemicals to become a gel… In other words they can melt like in the video. When you are thinking about purchasing yarn, check out what it’s made of you may be surprised. I suggest using natural fibers/yarn, it’s more expensive but some of these yarns are not healthy. I don’t know what yarn was used in this video, but it is a very good way to use any yarn… although cotton will not melt.

Coz the glue is not used here.
@@sumitkaur8897if you use Acrylic yarn/wool, it will melt it. Acrylic is a form of plastic. The heat of the iron melts the strands together.

If you put a baking sheet first thing on top of the glue/yarn layer, you have to worry less about the paper sticking to the yarn after ironing.
I was thinking a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper might work too.
Or a silicone sheet.

Agree. It is pretty, but I think it would be better to flatten the yarn more and maybe use resin or something. I think that will fall apart pretty fast!

I nearly couldn't watch it becasue of the music. So I totally agree, please don't use that awful music again. So disgusting!
Totally agree & even found the music with the ends of paper towel rolls just didn't fit the craft. Something a bit jazzier please, were all so excited with these easy, fun and inspiring crafts.
