Fun fact: I built my first modern deck (birthing pod) 1 week before it got banned. This deck was almost 1k and I was devastated. Quit modern one week after I started.
Absolutely fantastic play from Jamin in game 2, just goes to show how well Twin can sneak in a win through interaction. Brings back a ton of memories, loved the games.
Carl and Jamin killin it as always. Love feature match, my favorite feature match was when you guys did user submitted pioneer decks! Would still love to see you guys play more! Have a mono red devotion deck I would love to see one of you guys pilot
We are considering bringing back the submitted for a while if we don't have any guests for a month or two. Issue is, the guests never want to play audience brews 😅
We've been considering bringing it back, but the issue is that we can never convince any of our guests to play with the audience brews and we do most of our feature matches with guests 😅 this video was specifically something many viewers asked for. But if we have a month or two planned without any guests, we can being back the submitted decks for a while :)
@@CardmarketMagic I mean the guests are a nice upside, but honestly i think most of us are here for you guys anyway. I am also severely dissapointed in our pro gamer caste tbh now. If you can't play janky fan brews for fun when you are at the very top, what's even the point of getting there. Seriously enjoy the like, magic history exhibition matches you do though. It's a nice format :D
Sorry 😅 I hadn't realized I had doubled the audio track so it sounded unbelievably scratchy and loud. It takes many hours to render so I could not re-upload immediately :) -C
I eagerly awaited this video and it did not disappoint! You both played so well! Carl congrats on your win and thanks for playing Pod and making us look good. Can't wait for the next video too! ~Nathaniel
Thank you Nathaniel! :) that's really kind of you to say! This match was so fun to play. It was a rush of nostalgia revisiting the deck that first brought me to modern!
Thank you for the Video. Really unimaginable how different this Format used to be :) Also it was really nice that the 3 games showed everything. Game1 Just creatures hitting, game 2 Splinter Twinning, Game 3 Birthing Pot Engine Activated I like the hovering of the cards xD Keep it up like always guys, Cheers!
As a person who's just getting back into the game, these vids are great at showing off stuff that I've been missing while I was out of the hobby. Always a treat to watch y'all play!
Happy you enjoy these :) I specifically make them with the "past me that was getting back into magic and having trouble with all the gatekeeping" in mind. Too bad you missed that great period of the modern format though!
Carl and Jamin are my favorite Cardmarket matchups. Gabriel Nassif is always great and it's awesome to see him living his best life. I still think about the Ignite Memories moment against Patrick Chapin. But Carl and Jamin feels just like watching two good friends play Magic. Good content as always, and I haven't even finished the video yet, thanks for playing Birthing Pod.
Loved it I use to play both decks and affinity in modern during that time Still have all 3 decks I use to teach my son to play Awesome! Brought back so many memories
Awesome games! This is a huge throwback for me because I played both of these decks religiously and it was nice to see them played again. Here's to hoping they have their time in the sun once again!
This is such a great surprise for me! Modern pod was my all time favourite deck, I still have all the cards for it, haven't sold anything since the banning of the pod! Thank you so much! Oh and, I've been saying this a lot on different occasions but... Unban Pod!!
A fun idea, since pod and twin have been banned for a while in modern, would be to build new decks built around pod and twin using the current modern card pool, see what you could do with all the stuff printed since their banning.
@@CardmarketMagic Oh yeah, dang, I forgot about that! Still would like to see a 'modern' pod deck at some point, tho I dunno what to put up against it (Eldrazi and Dredge both seem too good). Great video as always!
love to see flashback modern matches, been waiting for this one for a minute The way Splinter Twin plays is actually really similar to Temur Electrobalance, you are fighting to keep tempo with the other good cards in the format, and without combo'ing you are falling behind gradually but steadily. It's funny bc I would've twinned on Snap ~12:00 just to have flashback in a pinch, it also plays around the obvious abrupt in his hand. And he topped a twin too! Just goes to show knowing your outs as combo is essential.
Y’all are on fire! Just making all the content I want haha. I’d give a suggestion but all the game play has been fire, historic format matches, the best current constructed format (pauper) etc. couldn’t ask for more!
It didn't stay like this for long. When DRS got banned, the top 3 decks became the top 2 decks. Treasure Cruise was printed with Khans and destroyed the meta in a fun way. Every deck abused delve to try a different broken strategy.
He's the one who gave us the idea! This video was originally supposed to be affinity vs twin, with Frank. But then Frank left Berlin, and the community voted for pod :)
@@CardmarketMagic Frank may have left Berlin, but Berlin never left Frank ^_^-b Obviously next time he visits, you'll have to pin him down, maybe old-school Affinity for modern "Affinity"?

I really love the matches of older banned decks. But I would love to see a what if unbanned deck, not a full no list modern, but more of What modern day splitter twin or pod decks would look like today Or what affinity or scales would look like with opal being unbanned It would be cool to see classic old decks revamped with all the new cards that have come since then
It was a great time in modern because Jeskai Control won the pro tour, Infect was scary, Storm sometimes had free wins, and Tron was the bane of all midrange players. The meta was more fun with Deathrite Shaman around to keep fair strategies like Jund powerful. Around this time, Affinity was busted in game 1 with roughly 70% winrate, and then it was close in game 2 and 3.
These were great matches. You should have viewers submit "Jumpstart" stacks of 20 cards with some clear criteria (1 color only, two color sets get 1 extra rare and uncommon for lands only, minimum X creatures, no more that 2 copies of one card, etc.) select from those and have 4 people do a tournament where between matches (not games) they can "sideboard" by swapping one of their packs for a random new one. Either 1 longer (~2 hours with crisp editing?) video or a series of videos for each matchup.
That was some good strategical interaction, not a double almost manaless discard on turn 0 like what offers the current meta. I don't know why the ones calling the shot are so afraid of Birthing Pod and Splinter Twin.
That double bolt in g1 was so random, did you think you had the fourth? Were you hoping to top deck a Snappy? Cause otherwise that was just a self loop for 2.
I don’t see where it was an unwinnable game. At its core splinter twin was a control deck with a combo win, he was in pretty good shape most of that game.
Yes Tron was great, but we are not making a Tron video without thoralf. Mostly because he was born with the magical powers of always having natural tron on turn 3 😅
