I couldn’t afford to play during this format; I was a poor college student at the time. It’s nice to see these cards in action during their prime. Thank you for sharing.
Mengu please do deck techs! I would love to see close ups of the cards (especially those old border!) & more context on how decks work for new players :)
We got feedback at the beginning that we had too much air before starting the games. I posted the deck pics on UA-cam community part of the channel and on twitter
I love your videos, Mengu. One of the few Magic content creators I still watch. Btw, am I the only one who jumps the initial sneak peek? I feel like I am receiving spoilers from the videos LOL
@@AndreaMengucci In my opinion (not an editor, just a viewer), you could probably cut it shorter, like to 3-4 sentences and a cutaway shot. Sometimes the sneak peeks run several minutes, which makes them feel like regular gameplay instead of like teasers. But mostly I think it succeeds.
I really love these modern "time capsule" videos! More please! Also, a thought I had for a video idea: "What if it were unbanned". Each player gets to use one card from the list of banned modern cards and either slot it into an existing deck or build a new one around it. I think it might be a fun unhinged series in the "workshop" style. Keep the great content coming!
Your channel and card market are the only mtg gameplay I watch anymore. Thanks for putting out the best! Would be fun to see a throwback rematch of the 2012 players championship for modern. Eternal Command VS Jund!
I remember Spellskite being an amazing sideboard card in the Splinter Twin days bc I was playing Affinity so it wasn’t even that bad of a card to just draw randomly after boarding.
Most old players would argue that Magic has objectively become worse the last 10 years, which, coincidentaly, is the same period that EDH took over the game.
i think there are enough privately cultivated formats that you find one by now that ends at _any_ format. 'everything new is terrible' isn't a rare idea, you'll just end up playing with the same three people that also think magic 'died' at the point that you do. And while all 'old' magic players claim it got worse in the last ten years, even older players claim it died with mirrodin. And people before that said it was onslaught. I would almost consider it's not the actual game quality that is really at fault here...
@@SeleenShadowpaw Mirrodin will always be the most broken block due to how powerful affinity was at the time. I don't think there has ever been a Standard deck after the dreaded Memory Jar that has been so game breaking. In addition, Mirrodin was the first block where the story left Dominaria and we started visiting planes that were not really connected to the story, not to mention that it was the starting point of the Modern format that a lot of people hate. What you can't deny is that WotC back in the day took way more creative approaches in every block in comparison to today where their usual approach is "create tokens, draw a card, double an effect, place a counter".
This was awesome! I bought into Twin two weeks before it was banned, hoping to make it my first real modern deck. Oh well! Love seeing it pop up in excellent content like this with one of my other favorite decks of all time.
2014, from the banning of Deathrite Shaman and unbanning of Bitterblossom and Wild Nacatl to just before the Khans Block 2014 was the best modern format in my opinion. You could play so much fun decks and cards: Affinity, Faeries, BirthingPod Combo, Tron, Burn / Zoo, Splintertwin, Living End, Infect, Dath & Taxes and more. I wish this was an alternate format many pople played, just like "Edison" format in YuGiOh. It is also easy to distinguish, because in Khans Block, the card boarder changed again.
I genuinely miss this era of Modern gameplay, all of the midrange and control decks had tons of fair interaction, nothing seemed too busted, skill expression was really high, every good deck was $1000 but once you had 4 of each fetch and shock, and some fastlands every deck was reasonably priced, plus jund was the "fancy pants rich mcgee" deck and its fine to have one of those in the meta, if its not T0. Huge throwback to this meta(even though I was 15 and playing off my dad's cards at the time), it was so much fun
Hello Mengu, great video as always, i'd like to ask if it is in the channel's plans to make a discord/community? i feel that most viewers here are more interested in the 60-card side of Magic and (based on my personal experience) trying to jam some games through discord/spelltable can be hard
A buddy of mine built the decks piloted by Brian Davis and Bob Maher in the 1999 PT Chicago finals. Those are a blast to play and Im sure would be interesting to watch!@MengusWorkshop
Had a rough day realizing I needed to sell a lot of cards including one of my oldest EDH decks to make rent this month. Thanks for the smiles today. It was needed. ❤
Now that I think of it, it probably wouldn't be too hard to create a program that you input the cards you want and it outputs an image like the one Tommy manually edits in. Then he could just screenshot that and add it to the editing software. Would you like me to create something like that for you and CardMarket? (Cause then i get more uploads since it's faster to edit)
Ah, modern in the good old days. I had Batwing Brume as a SB card against Twin in my Esper Control Deck - they never saw it coming 😁. I don't see why Twin is still banned, and I don't even think it would be worth playing in the current meta.
Why is it still banned along with many other cards that shouldn't be? Because the people who make those decisions are overly cautious morons. And I quit because of them, because I can't keep being disappointed when a ban ruins a deck I've heavily invested in and enjoy.
You guys should play competitive commander. I know Andrea has said he doesn't like commander because of politics, but if you play 1 v 1, politics isn't really a thing
“White Jund” confirms that Jund is not so much a color identity but a state of mind.
Always been
just white em out
Similar to the best deck color name of all time “moist jund”
Although he did board out the white from the jund
MonoW Jund
tommy editing should be a mainstay in all paper play its such a nice quality of life update for viewers XD
tommy is seriously one of the best editors out of all the magic channels on youtube!
That’s great to read!!!
The head of Liliana sticking out in the hand overview in the first sideboard game took me out 🤣😂
@Tommi, your editing with the cards in each player's hand is excellent. It adds to the channel.
I'm a simple man: I see Splinter Twin paper gameplay video, I click video
Love this Chanel, the enthusiasm from mengu is un matched anywhere else on UA-cam. Never stop mengu we love u!!
Thanks!

@@MengusWorkshopmaybe show a short overview of the deck at the start, like they do during rcs on twitch (digital image of the deck)?
Just that Bob flip at the intro was worth the like

The goal is to attract viewers without giving out too much. Did we succeed in that here?
@@AndreaMengucci That's for sure! No doubts. But I like to jump right into the video lol

Thank you so much for making all of these classic games! Awesome work on the editing as always Tommy 🎉
honestly im loving the nostalgia modern videos! i wish i could play this too
The card holder look to show the card being played is awesome!
Yes! It’s all Tommi!
Loving the paper gameplay, nice work Mengu and Tommy!
Crazy video quality, and so nice now that both Mengu and Tom have such cool backgrounds 🎉
good job editing tommy i didnt knew u did the overlay manually. congrats

thank you Tommy for the editing, it makes the videos much much more enjoyable, ask Meggu to pay you more money, you earn it

This makes me wish for an old school modern format ending at Journey into Nyx.
Most old players would argue that Magic has objectively become worse the last 10 years, which, coincidentaly, is the same period that EDH took over the game.
That was Modern's best period by far
That'd be great - I would miss some Tarkir cards that made it in before Eldrazi Winter, but it's nicely bounded by the 8th edition frame.

Thanks for the video Mengu!
Token contest definitely is won by Mengu this time! 😂 So much fun!
finally another video
And we got another one coming up on thursday with mh3 prerelease!
Tommy is a gem.
Old modern was so fun!
Wonder were the blood moon on Tommy’s side board is . Used to be twins best answer against tron an twin and other decks with crazy mana bases
Thanks for the video. 🎉
You should make a video showing your card collection and how it's organized.
At 20:40 you chose to generate. Would that not have tapped the creature? I think -1/-1 is the only real choice you should've made here?
It will only tap if leathal damage would be dealt to it. I could also just not cast it.
You mentioned your bulk collection, and I was curious, how many copies of any given card do you keep before you say “that’s too many”?
We want one match with Jund Cruise instead the confident 😂❤ That really was a good deck lul! 🎉
Flip 8 damage!
I got into modern way to late in life but the white jund looks so much fun to play
¿At 6:00 couldn't Andrea have used shaman to deal 2 and the lightning bolt to win?
Yeah it would probably been better
i wanna see no banlist modern now! are holgaak and splintertwin and birthing pod good enough to compete w domain zoo or scam?
Excellent content
Did the guys at Card Market show Tommy how to put the cards in hand on screen?
What app do you use to get a Tommy to edit in those cards?

Not at the moment. A lot of things going on and handling a discord isn’t free.
Thanks to my favorite app, Tommy, for editing all of this!
Mengu tapping lands to the right and creatures to the left is why I have trust issues

Problem is that new cards show up and go away turn after turn, i don t know how easy that is
Golgari charm buys more than one turn vs Twin on Exacrch, you can destroy target enchantment !
