I’m making a Beamtown Bullies deck and this episode really convinced me of how much fun Boldwyr heavyweights can be. They have just earned a place in the deck 🤣
This episode is a case study on why you should only board wipe if you can capitalize off of it. All Nessa did was make herself the archenemy with absolutely nothing to protect herself with. Instead, she could’ve just let the guys assess the threats at the table (I.e. not herself) and pick eachother off, and then sneak in for the win because no one was paying attention to her board state.

I would've loved to see a council's dilemma/will of the council deck with the new council esper commander. That said these decks seem really interesting
Its bad. Not the commander, but the cards in esper colors with “council’s dillema” or “will of the council” That commander just plays around itself and its other ability
@@AlexanderSzymanski true I was just trying to give a reason why he might’ve picked his cards. Although I must say it is admirable to see them not go full shill. Like I’m still upset that Josh picked the Commanders he did but I gotta respect that their bottom line still seems to be having fun.
Ok, wow. First of all: The production value on this episode in through the roof! The whole entry chapter is such a cool flavourfull way to start the episode, huge congrats on that! My second thought is more critical actually: I think, overall, I would appreciate if these "showing off a new set"-episodes would actually use more cards of the new set. Sometimes it feels like that the real flavour of the new set just appears in the intro and outro when you guys talk about it, but within the actuall game, the new cards of the deck only play a minor role. Last thought is just a funny one: Yeez, I dont wanna know how the price of Blightsteel is increasing within the next few days haha Overall thank you guys a ton for the fun and all the work you do! Keep it up! You rock!
I strongly agree. This should be an opportunity to see a lot of the exciting cards from the new set making their debut in commander. Instead, we get Dockside and Rhystic Study and OG Dual lands. It's boring.
Totally agree with this whole comment. I went through the decklists and I believe I counted 12 New Capenna cards total across all four decklists (9 not including commanders). Production value and aesthetic are very on point, just would like the set to be played more besides the commanders themselves idk
Man I love this show!! I have played magic for well over 15 years now but I have always played constructed formats until I found this channel. Now I love playing commander! This is awesome!
I know it's been said but wanted to add my voice: Josh not playing an actual commander from Capenna was really disappointing. I thought the point of these episodes was to highlight the new set?
True. I didn't even watched the video till the end. Those printings were only released to support the availibility of the cards. They were in SNC set boosters just because it literally turned out so. The characters aren't even set in New Capenna. He could play any of the commanders that were printed in the list, like Rafiq and it would be the same.
34:23 One thing she forgot to do is also account for the trigger off of Rin and Seri. When those 4 2/2 cats came into play, She would have also gotten 4 1/1 dogs as well.
It wasn't a bad plan on Ned's part:let Josh have that first card, then start paying when you need to worry ' bout him possibly drawing. Into a response card...
Aye! I've been waiting for this episode to come out. I saw the behind the scenes episode and I know how much work goes into every episode so I am not complaining, just excited so thanks Josh, Jimmy, and the rest of the team.
I’m playing in my first ever commander event at my lgs tomorrow and I’m so excited! Me and my best mate are both going in and he’s using his new Dominaria commander!
I don't think I even played Magic during New Capenna, but it has to be my favorite vibe of a set. I just love the art-deco city plane style, and the mafia-boss kingpin-type dynamic. I wish I could be in New Capenna for a little while, I just think I'd love it.
Loved the dressing up and the animated intros, but this episode feels more like an extra turns episode than a game knights, it's way more powerful and doesn't really focus on the commander decks, and everyone had commander from the new capenna plane except Josh, the friends forever cards are from the innastrad plane
I just want them to play with Vanilla precons cause they are always fun and chill games with a lower ceiling, also it's very useful to see how the decks play before you buy them
These videos are really fun to watch and I loved the fact that Ned won thanks to Jolene and Blightsteel Colossus...the duo I didn't expect to happen, but I'm glad exists. Hope he comes back for another Game Knights.
I was sure that Blightsteel would come out. My Gruul deck has got one. All Gruul decks ramp hard. So hard casting him with some haste enabler is usually worth it.
Not even 7 minutes into the video and I am in love with the audio effects played over the commander's being introduced! You guys look awesome too :) Edit: 8 minutes in, holy smokes the set is incredible!

By the time Seedborn Muse is doing things, at this level of gameplay you've probably got some engines running, and you've drawn more of your deck = more possible answers.
I'm not sure why JLK didn't play New Capenna commanders in the New Capenna episode. Kinda took away from the theme. I feel like there are some pretty cool legendaries from this set. Hopefully we get more New Capenna cards in the next Extra Turns.
He was probably told to promote some of the Secret Lair cards as well with the new Stranger Things season coming out. Remember, this show is an ad for Wizards, not actual gameplay lol
@@Joshbobjovi Thats probably true, although I disagree with the last bit.
@@Joshbobjovi Not really buying that. They have said multiple times that they just get the list of the commanders in the set and they choose what they want to build.
The 2 he played got reflavored for New Capenna
I know I really wanted someone to play one of the leaders or at least a commander from the set
When Nessa plays a “Taiga” on turn one it really fits the cat them 😉
When she said it, before I saw the card, I was literally wondering what Tiger is she playing. :D
Kinda triggered she fetched a Taiga on turn one and did nothing. Should have just fetched a stomping ground.
Meowza
The Professor having a "Buy Singles" page in the opening magazine was a nice touch!
The jumpscare of seeing Ned Fulmer in 2023
Try 2024
@@bernice9701ifyI just got into this show about 3 weeks ago. Then this episode pops up and I'm like "damn. I wonder if he cheats in this too."
I wanna watch the Streets of New Cap episode, but.....I may just skip it in favor of a different one.
I was just really happy to see Rin and Seri in play. Now all I need is for someone to play them as a Commander.
My favorite commander deck I have!
I'm so happy to see Ned here! I hope he brings Keith next time they seem to be the only try guys that play mtg
I will love to see it!
Josh: What do I wanna keep?
Jimmy: Your hair. 😁
Keeps: We see what you did there!

Pay raise coming in hot
I understand the Chain of Vapors play on the Seedborn Muse, but there was also a prime target in the form of Blightsteel.
When Ned lost his land on that cleansing nova I was rooting for the Ned family all the way. Then when he went from beaten down in the streets to the puppet master pulling the strings with an iron, in this case blightsteel, fist it’s one of the best moments I’ve ever seen on Game Knights. I love the flavor of this set so much and hope they continue to revisit this plane.
The “we’ve never seen stranger things” joke was a nice touch😂
I would've loved to see a council's dilemma/will of the council deck with the new council esper commander. That said these decks seem really interesting
Im stil noodling out how to best build it.
Im stil noodling out how to best build it.
That one does look fun
Its bad.
Not the commander, but the cards in esper colors with “council’s dillema” or “will of the council”
That commander just plays around itself and its other ability
I built a $70 budget version around ETB and blink, with some of the better Vote cards. Plays really well
“What’s the most important thing to keep?”
Jimmy: “Your hair!”
Give this man a raise, Keeps!
That would have made a perfect Segway into a keeps shoutout
@@rondoiron6907 we did legitimately think about it
Man Ned playing infect really was foreshadowing
The set design is breathtaking. Amazing job, Ladee Danger and the whole team!
Great game, kinda disappointed though that only 2 crime families were represented out of the 5. Was hoping to see Raffine shenanigans from Josh
Out of his playstyle
@@jwall1646 It's a show funded by wizards to show off the new set. Playstyle or not.
@@AlexanderSzymanski true I was just trying to give a reason why he might’ve picked his cards.
Although I must say it is admirable to see them not go full shill. Like they could easily just play all the family heads or upgraded precons (which would’ve pleased a lot more people and gotten a lot more views) but instead they always give their guest first picks on any new set legend.
Like I’m still upset that Josh picked the Commanders he did but I gotta respect that their bottom line still seems to be having fun.
@@jwall1646 all the family heads would have been really cool. Literally everyone likes them
@@AlexanderSzymanski Funny that it doesnt really show off the new set. Jimmy and Josh aren't even really playing many cards from the new set.
Last thought is just a funny one: Yeez, I dont wanna know how the price of Blightsteel is increasing within the next few days haha
Overall thank you guys a ton for the fun and all the work you do! Keep it up!
Production value and aesthetic are very on point, just would like the set to be played more besides the commanders themselves idk
new cards suck, they are bad and overcosted
@@marshall4439 I mean yeah I’m over this channel. They ride perpetual hype to jam staples into whatever flavor they’re promoting then dump it
Josh: I feel bad for Ned
Don't feel bad Josh. He got what was coming to him.
Ned constantly referencing the song ‘Jolene’ definitely is…perfect
Just as perfect as you being an absolute fucking loser
oh god ned fulmer jumpscare, wasn't expecting that lol
Bjorna's animation is absolutely wicked! Whoever does the card artwork animations deserves a round of applause!
34:23 One thing she forgot to do is also account for the trigger off of Rin and Seri. When those 4 2/2 cats came into play, She would have also gotten 4 1/1 dogs as well.
7:12 “But first, do avens make better flappers?” Was legitimately pretty funny.
Rhystic Study trigger when Ned literally has 10 mana to spend: “I won’t pay.”
Boy howdy am I heated by this decision 😅
Checks out with other commander player decisions haha
He was prioritizing mana for his game plan then started paying when it was motion
It wasn't a bad plan on Ned's part:let Josh have that first card, then start paying when you need to worry ' bout him possibly drawing. Into a response card...
God the animations are so good y’all, high fives!
Oh wow. I'm loving the style of the deck intros in this episode. I'm so hyped to watch the rest.
Loved the dressing up and the animated intros, but this episode feels more like an extra turns episode than a game knights, it's way more powerful and doesn't really focus on the commander decks, and everyone had commander from the new capenna plane except Josh, the friends forever cards are from the innastrad plane
I wouldn’t really count the Secret Lair reprints as New Capenna cards.
True but they were hardly going to do a Stranger Things episode, were they?
Unless they do a Commander variant of Archenemy…
The only packs you can get them in is new capenna so no
They DEFINITELY aren't. I was so looking forward to seeing new commanders in action and this was just a big disappointment.
Imagine, instead of trying to chain away the seedborn, targeting the ACTUAL huge threat in blightsteel.
Well, someone forgot to buy the new set's cards for this episode
My thoughts as well...
I straight up laughed out loud in the middle of the office at work after the academy manufacturer animation. Well done... Well ... Done :D
ap-ple
Those partner commanders not being from Capenna really hurt the flavor of the episode
Stranger Things have happened.
But in all seriousness, yeah, I was disappointed by that choice as well.
I just want them to play with Vanilla precons cause they are always fun and chill games with a lower ceiling, also it's very useful to see how the decks play before you buy them
I wonder if bouncing the Blightsteel instead of Seedborn Muse would've made a difference.
Bounce the blightsteel and make jimmy a threat or bounce the muse and make Ned the threat. Either way. Josh is still screwed.
@@lonewolf8102 It does make me wonder when Josh got the bounce spell too.
@@lonewolf8102 nah, Jimmy should have bounced blightsteel. He could've played the muse next turn, he was just being greedy.
These videos are really fun to watch and I loved the fact that Ned won thanks to Jolene and Blightsteel Colossus...the duo I didn't expect to happen, but I'm glad exists. Hope he comes back for another Game Knights.
Oof this didnt age well
yeah the whole segment about Ned cheating on his wife in the middle of a commander game...kinda random ngl :/
@@sky_shroomwhat's the time stamp?
@@sky_shroomhuh
Every time i look at Blightsteel i just think "wtf were they smoking when they came up with that?"
The Beatdown Bullies were definitely the best card on Ned sideboard.
I was sure that Blightsteel would come out. My Gruul deck has got one. All Gruul decks ramp hard. So hard casting him with some haste enabler is usually worth it.
Buried ruins returns a artifact to your hand he never realized that the land he lost counts as an artifact
Not even 7 minutes into the video and I am in love with the audio effects played over the commander's being introduced! You guys look awesome too :)
Edit: 8 minutes in, holy smokes the set is incredible!
NGL, was looking forward to seeing more of the actual New Capenna shard family legendaries from this game. Ned playing the gruul legendary & Josh playing...an innistrad re-skinned Stranger Things secret lair pair...was a bit disappointing. Oh well, still a good game though, even if the theme/flavor was odd
Yeah the stranger things commanders threw off a bit of the New Capenna vibe for me
I don’t thing the people on New Capenna have ever seen stranger things…
I agree. Josh playing the secret lair variants was a huge let down for this game.
Bruh when they said “which one do I keep?”
*Jimmy* “Your hair”
😂
"In this town your fortunes can change just like that *snap*, see?" - I swear to god I'm just rewatching this scene over and over because it is sooo funny!
13:48 he scrys the same way he looks at women that aren’t his wife
holy shit
Shut up loser
7:35 wow the foreshadowing
Although I absolutely LOVE Game Knights, I was a little upset at the extremely short game play for our guest, Nessa 💔 her deck didn't do much and she was out before it did anything else. A bit disappointed not to see more of the deck but loved seeing Ned have his comeback story 🎉
We've seen it before. Unfortunate but it does happen. I love me some tokens deck so I would have liked to see it go off.
