I like to add #13 to this video about Dewey-Humboldt that buyers should be aware.
We were there in early April and found a house we loved. We were ready to make an offer the next morning after our second walk-through, but our daughter intervened by sending us an article about the two Superfund sites in the area. It was our first trip to AZ and was in a rush looking for a retirement home( in a few days )and Dewey Humboldt fits the bill. Google it and there are plenty of articles about the former Iron King Mine and the Humboldt Smelter that were closed in the 60’s but left 8 million tons of toxic waste such as lead and arsenic behind, which already contaminated the local river, soil, wildlife, etc. Articles from EPA and AZ government agency will tell you all about it. To this day, the two Superfund sites are still Active NPL (in red) sites. The toxins were left there for 60 plus years but only in 2008 it was declared Superfund sites. The government had done 5 cleanups at the mine so far including testing residential soil. It’s still ongoing…..Check out an article published by KNAU News Talk - Arizona Public Radio from 2012, an interview with a local resident - listen to what he had to say, he didn’t know about the toxic sites when he purchased his house.
I emailed our realtor the article from our daughter and she was actually relieved that we changed our mind. She also mentioned the neighborhood south of the golf course has real issues with their wells. It’s only a few blocks from the house we wanted to buy. Anyways, I don’t know the AZ laws or whether the realtors are obligated to disclose information such as this.. I don’t want to point fingers at anyone but consider ourselves lucky to avoid a disaster.
Do your homework thoroughly before you buy, that’s my advice.

Hey now, I grew up drinking that water, and it’s actually really good. It weeds out the weak cells and makes your immune system strong.

It's true, we're actively dealing with the epa and it's a nightmare. I've listened to citizens complain at town meetings that they bought property without knowing of contamination. You'll hear story after story and I guess it depends on if you buy from a bank or not what laws apply. And now the water supply tap where folks that haul water get their water over in the blue hills area... well that land was annexed by p.v. and they're cutting it off from dewey. It will be designated to developers. Dewey humboldt is wonderful, but we're fighting to keep our town

I live a few miles from Dewey, it's a beautiful area, I wouldn't change my mind , turns out ALL water in the United States has been deemed contaminated by forever chemicals, from the new EPA findings.

EPA is run by corrupt, non elected hacks and everything they say should be suspect.

At this point I would say almost all goverment agencies are corrupt and we should be careful what we listen to from them.

@@livinginnorthernaz So, when are you building a house near that mine and smelter there? So I guess the people living there, whose children are sick because the wind blows toxic materials into their lungs, are corrupt as well, huh?

We love Dewey/Hum area. I have heard that this are is the next big growth area?

Do you have any ethics? Dewey-Humboldt has had a TOXIC WASTE PROBLEM FROM THE NEARBY MINE AND SMELTER FOR YEARS! How can you advocate moving into this area in your video without informing people that it is an EPA Super Fund site and living there MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO THEIR HEALTH!
    Because you’re a realtor that’s how.
