    Something I discovered after moving here that no one ever mentions, is the healthcare situation. Prescott can't get enough doctors or veterinarians. I called 16 doctors before finding one who was accepting new patients.
    Dermatologist is a 6 month wait. Routine cleaning app't at dentist office was a 2 month wait.
    If you need a specialist you'll be driving to Phoenix.
    When I needed to take my dog to the vet, I called four offices. Two were not accepting new patients, the others were a one month wait. I ended up going to emergency vet, which there is only ONE in the Prescott/Valley/Chino/DH area.
    If you're used to prompt health care or a choice of doctors, you'll be making quite a
    trade-off to live here.

      I've had no problems with the vet, I have 3 dogs and take them to The Village Vet. Doctors for myself is another story. I got to Flagstaff for my eye exams, but Phoenix for my specialists. I don't go that often because health insurance for self employed people is terrible. I have an expensive policy that rejects most every claim after the fact. So I have to be dying before I go to the doctor because I'll probably get a bill the the claim was rejected about four months after the visit.
      I have sold several homes to doctors who were hired at or near the Cottonwood hospital. Within two years they get disgusted and leave for somewhere else. They can't seem to keep good doctors . Not sure what's going on.

      That’s because it’s self centered Geriatric community won’t pass school bonds. Guess what!? Doctors have kids, and doctors kids go to schools… and doctors want their kids to go to well funded and well rounded schools. It’s nice to see karma happen In real-time

    I used to live in Prescott 24 yrs ago. It was beautiful but it was tough for me to adapt to a whole new place and culture. I am back in Hawaii (expensive) and may have to once again move again because of the rising cost.

    My husband visited Prescott 7 years ago and fell in love with it, but could not afford to buy property there, so he bought a crappy manufactured home in nearby Chino Valley, which is now worth more than the 4 BR 3 Bath site-built home next to a golf course with a 2 car garage on a corner lot in Rio Rancho, NM, that I sold for nothing to move here. We love the area, the climate, and the location, but it is for retirees and tourists, which means low-paying jobs. We are retirees, so employment opportunities were not a consideration for us, but my 24-year-old daughter is living with us because she works in a restaurant (the very restaurant that offers a Hot Shot Burger benefiting the Wade Parker Foundation) and finding an apartment to rent ANYWHERE nearby is ridiculous. Retirees want good restaurants and shopping, but they are completely clueless that their wants are built on the backs of youngsters that may never achieve their level of wealth.

    me and my wife took a week stay in Prescott. I love the town, history and a nice getaway from the desert. My only concern is the jobs vs Phoenix/Tucson. I've noticed there's a VA hospital too but they're known to treat veterans like crap. I feel like the only way to make decent money while living in Prescott/PV is probably state level or federal jobs which isn't a terrible thing. The place is surrounded by national forests etc

    • @livinginnorthernaz
      @livinginnorthernaz  2 роки тому +2

      I can't deny that Phoenix has tons more jobs than any Northern AZ town. I have been very disappointed with VA hospital (I haven't used them, but what I've heard from friends). The Phoenix VA hospital had a big scandal a few years ago regarding how they treat the veterans.

    I live in Prescott Valley and have lived here for years. It is turning into Phoenix JR and the water supply is deplorable and undrinkable with no solution . The wildlife has been decimated by jammed in developments. If you like California style neighborhoods where you can hear your neighbor snoring at night because of the tiny space between your house and their house maybe you might like it. Now with all the new growth we have higher crime and people being slaughtered on the highways almost daily. If you are leaving California it is just like what you are leaving.

    Thank you for the excellent video, very good information - may I ask what is the water situation in the Prescott, PV, Chino, and Dewey area?

    • @livinginnorthernaz
      @livinginnorthernaz  2 роки тому +3

      Some of the homes have a private water co, or even city water in Prescott. In the more remote areas homes can be on a well. And there are some houses that have a water haul arrangement , where they have a service to deliver water into a cistern once or twice a month. I recently talked to an owner in Dewey that said the water delivery service was great and it cost them $85 a month. I asked them if they ever had an issue with shortages and they said no. I can't guarantee there will never be an issue up , but I've been told its ok right now.

      More than half of Arizona is currently experiencing “exceptional” drought conditions, the most severe level of drought, according to the National Integrated Drought Information System. The Arizona Department of Water Resources said most of the state got less than 25% of average precipitation for April.

    DO NOT MOVE HERE----
    My mother who is a senior citizen forgot to ring up some items she was purchasing in the self-checkout, Walmart called Prescott Police, and all hell broke loose. The officer instructed my mother that she was being arrested for shoplifting.
    My mother who was confused why she was being arrested kept asking the officer “Why am I being arrested” “I didn’t mean to not ring those items up.” Instead of explaining the situation, he told her to stop playing dumb and let her know she was being arrested for shoplifting. My mother who was shook as she’s gone her whole life without being in trouble with the law, asked the officer again, “Why am I being arrested”.
    Cuffs were shackled around her wrists very tightly which caused her to flinch and scratch the police officer, which he assumed was intentional, and started spouting out “NOW YOU’RE GETTING A FELONY”. My mother who has gone 60+ years of her life is now facing two felonies and we’re unable to afford an attorney, we also found out from the public defender that since my mother “was resisting arrest” it wouldn’t matter how hard the officer shackled the cuffs around here wrists since he had to use the “appropriate force to detain the suspect” even though my mother is a senior citizen. My mother’s wrists have a ¼” bump from the cuffs and were black and blue when I picked her up. She’s never been a criminal, you guys didn’t need to take things this far.
    Take my advice and DO NOT move here, this town is terrible. Everyone walks around grumpy, and the police pick on law-abiding citizens, meanwhile pounds of fentanyl are being smuggled at the border killing someone new every day.
