Great video and tips! I'm new to the Circuit family and of course my first big project is going to be using Walnut veneer. It sounds simple enough but you are the first one who has mentioned where to put the dial setting on the Explorer Air 2. That's pretty important for someone like me "a newbie" LOL! I ran vinyl on cardstock because no one told me me to change it in my instructions and I forgot the last thing I did was a cardstock project. Thanks again for sharing! I'll be back for more tips.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Angie .. thank you so much for your tutorial on wood veneer. You are easy to follow and understand with concise instructions and a pleasant voice. I'm looking forward to making many things on my new Cricut Explore and I'm also looking forward to watching many more of your videos. Thanks again ❤
You are so welcome!
I didn’t realize it would cut that intricate of a design with such small pieces!! I gotta try it now!
Good luck!
This is great! I can't wait to try to make custom inlaid wood floors for my dollhouses.
YES!!! This is great for that!
What a good idea! I have some of the Cricut wood veneer, and was wondering how it could be used. Thanks for sharing the idea, and the files!
Glad it was helpful!
GREAT Wood Vaneer Tutorial!! It is fun to cut wood on the Explore. I have used other Woods but never Vaneer...so thanks for sharing and love what you cut out it really makes for a Stunning look!! Thanks too for sharing your Tips, Tricks & Techniques!! YOU so ROCK!!
Joan Smith
My pleasure!
This was a great video. I am definitely a newbie. I learned much from this.
I'm so glad!
Thank you! That was very easy to understand and very helpful!
Unfortunately at the time of my viewing neither one of the links are working. 😥
Sorry this is a few years old.
@@AngieHolden That's okay. The information is still good.
That looks awesome Angie, I hope we get it in Australia I can't wait to try it.
I hope so too!
@@AngieHolden is blade became weak???
I'm having trouble getting it to cut all the way through. I have the deep cut blade ND strong grip mat. I've taped it down and have run it through multiple times. And I've also changed the pressure setting to more. Bummed because I really want to make earrings. I am using and air 2 and cricut veneer. Thanks
Hmmm...I have never had any issues! Try adding a few more passes? Maybe your blade is dull?
Were you able to figure it out? I’m having the same issue and everything is brand new. I’m not sure what else to do.
Having the same issue! Any luck?
Do you recommend the light pressure or heavier pressure setting?
Just depends on the condition of your blade at the time of cutting.
What pattern did you use? It’s a nice design
I just looked for something in Design Space to use.
Omg when you were taking it off the mat and all the little pieces were everywhere.... I got allllll the anxiety lol. I love this project though I can't wait to try my own!
HA! Yes there are sooo many pieces. Thankfully I was using the big piece!
Great video!! If nothing else convinced me to get a Maker 3, this did. Q: in traditional marquetry, you use 2 different pieces of veneer stacked and taped to get the same cuts through both pieces, and combine the pieces like a puzzle. Do you think the maker is accurate enough that you could cut each of the two pieces separately and then combine them?
I think it would be but I haven't tried that.
Hello, do you know if it's possible with straw marquetery ?
Any tips on glueing down the veneer prices down mine roll up are my prices too small or my glue or not enough glue awesome work btw
First, I would say be sure to flip your mat over when removing so your pieces don't curl as much. Second, it may be the glue. Try a good quality wood glue and I weighted mine down as they dried. I like Gorilla Glue.
@AngieHolden do you do anything with the scrap pieces or just toss them?
You can use the scrap! If you have a use for it, then I say use them!
@@AngieHolden I was jusy curious if you did anything with them. Thanks for your reply.😊
I did it thank u it was fun i just could not make it larger any tips im new and have a maker
To make something larger, you can pull the arrow in the corner or type in new size numbers when the design is highlighted.
Thank u again u rock love this lil art work new subbie here !!
hello, i'm a huge fan. your videos are so informative. But i was curious if you could use vaneer to make earrings? i've been using bassword but it's too thin. and keeps cracking.
This will be thinner most likely. Try cutting multiple pieces and stacking them. Then gluing those together. That might help!
What is the glue you used. Also, where can I find the cut file
Seriously any wood glue works. Try this for cut file: design-beta.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/5eb93c918c43011338c23aa1
Angie do you have a video on how to make a paper stencil?
Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/FGh7HVPXUnU/v-deo.html
Are moving the star wheels important? I found that it told me to... Thank you for all you do and offer to us!
It can be! They can marr the surface and moving them only takes a second.
It looked to be a bit of a pain to get that veneer off the strong grip mat. Since you used painter's tape around the edges, do you think you could get away with a medium grip mat, especially if the designs weren't so intricate?
Also, do you have any feel for how long the blades will last when doing this? I have a relatively new Maker, only a couple of weeks old, and my standard blade already seems to be requiring replacement, and all I've cut with it are fabrics and paper.
I am thinking a new green mat would work. If yours is really worn it may not.
Second, did you cut fabric and paper with the same blade? The paper probably dulled it for use with fabric. Just like having a pair of scissors you only use for fabric, the same goes for Cricut blades. My blades always last a REALLY long time even with cutting designs like this one.
Hi thanks for this video! I can see u r using the same deep point blade for both machines. So I can use the deep point blade for the explorer in the maker? Cos I can’t find the one for the maker :( thanks :)
The deep point blades are the same.
@@AngieHolden thanks!!! I almost return it! 🤣 ur video saved me 😬
Hi, newbie here! I’m wondering if I could use veneer to make a cake topper if I layer it?
You would have to use a lot of layers but it would work.
Have you ever made a stencil with stencil material using an explore 2?
Yes! It cuts it fine!
You think you can use this wood veneer for earrings or pendants for necklaces?? It seemed flimsy, should it be reinforced with another material?
It should be reinforced. You might be able to cut several layers of it though and glue them together to get it to be stronger.
what kind of glue was that? you said wood glue, but what kind?? Also, have you tried layering the veneer pieces on top of each other?
I am actually not sure of the brand of glue. I haven't layered these pieces.
Angie, Would you recommend putting modge podge or another top coat on this before hanging it on the wall? Secondly, did your wood have a rough or smooth finish? Would the finish matter for proper adhesion?
I wouldn't put a coating on it. The wood was fairly smooth? I don't think it would matter though.
If you don't have the Deep Point Blade, could you use the Knife blade to cut the veneer?
I haven't not tried it! I would be careful and stop every pass or two or you can cut through your mat!
Did you do a test cut before this? Do you recommend the default setting? Thank you for all your videos. I enjoy them and I appreciate your knowledge.
The default setting worked fine for me. I really didn't do a test cut but I had plenty of veneer to work with.
Is there a way just to engrave the wood rather than having it cut out completely? Thank you
I have on my list to test this but I have not yet.
Will the explore air 2 engrave the basswood too?
Not that I have seen.
Great video, just found your channel, and love it so far! You mention that you let the machines pass over more than once, is that something that the machine prompts, or do you run the design within Cricut again? Thank you!
The machine will do that all on its own once you pick the material.
What is the thickness of that veneer
With the knife blade, how may passes did it take to cut through?
I usually use the deep point blade with this.
@@AngieHolden you may not have understood my question. How may times did the blade go around to cut all the way through the material?
I’m using CRICUT MAKER 3 with knife blade.
Again you don't have to use the knife blade as it will probably cut through it in less that one pass and into your mat. This material is paper thin. The deep point blade is what I would recommend and pick the wood veneer setting. The machine will do the rest with the passes.
I love your videos
Thanks!
What type of blade did you use?
Deep point blade.
Awesome pieces!
Glad you like them!
File says The link is not currently active.
Yes Cricut changed some things and some are not available.
Could you show how to do it on the computer ?
Will any sheet of veneer work?
I think so but I have only tried this brand.
Angie Holden Thanks Angie, keep up the great work 🇮🇪☘️
Does anyone know if you can die cut this cricut wood veneer with your dies in your stash?
I would think it would work but I haven't tried it.
Can you use the knife on the maker?
The knife blade is for thicker wood. You can see me use it to cut wood here: ua-cam.com/video/9u97t3s2lIE/v-deo.html
Fantastic thank you!
I'm thinking I'm going to try to make a stencil out of it I got some laying around.. does the blade have to go a certain direction when you put it in?
Nope! Just put it in.
THANK YOU
Thank you!! I'm working on Christmas gifts and I needed to cut the veneer
Have fun!
Does anyone know the thickness of the Cricut brand veneer? I wasn't expecting it to be thin enough to fold
I don't have the thickness but it is thin!
It says 1/11” in Amazon description. Standard for other veneer is 1/50” and up.
My cricut maker’s design space does not show natural wood veneer. What do I do.
Try searching for just "veneer" and also make sure you only have cut lines. The material will not appear if you have draw, foil, engrave, etc lines.
can I use th eknife to cut it?
I think it will go way too deep as this stuff is super thin.
Why is the critcut explore cheaper if it can cut wood?
It can only cut this really thin wood veneer. The Maker can do thick basswood and chipboard. There is a huge difference in the machines.
Where did you get the wood ??
Links in the description under the video.
@@AngieHolden I didn’t see it. I’m not talking about the Cricut Wood. The wood that was the Surface??
Oh the surface! They are called wood panels and you can get them on Amazon in a wide variety of sizes.
@@AngieHolden Thank you
How thick is the veneer? In Mm
I am wondering the same. I’m going to check Cricut’s website
Do you think the veneer would work for earrings?
I think you would have to layer it. Maybe 4 layers all glued together. Otherwise they would break.
Love it!
So glad!
Help! My machine isn’t cutting through properly. It will cut the first piece on my design then when finish the rest is when the blade doesn’t cut…
I would make sure everything is down well on the mat and clean your blade.
@@AngieHolden hi again!
So I think I just noticed something. My blade is “loose” in the clamp…it doesn’t sit flush with the clamp when I finish my cut. I watched it and at the beginning it’s flush, but then as it cuts it slowly rises up. So makes sense why the first few cuts go through…any idea how to tighten the clamp? I wasted so much material! :(
That is definitely the issue. I would call Cricut and explain the issue and see if they can assist.
@@markieezsn145 Did you ever get in contact with Cricut about this issue? I am having the exact same problem!
@@RugbyBunny1 I noticed the blade would lift up and not stay all the way down…
Is that real wood or is it vinyl? I wanted to cut the sheet with a laser. You can't cut vinyl with a laser since it will produce toxic fumes!
It is definitely real wood and not vinyl. I don't know that it doesn't have additives to hold it together though.
cricut..way too expensive..i went to the hardware store and brought a roll 2 meters long for 8 bucks
Just do not get the type that has adhesive already on the back. I made that mistake once.
Cricut Explore 3 can i use but do i need to use Knife Blade
You can use explore 3 but this uses the deep point blade not the knife blade.
thank you so much angie@@AngieHolden
