So glad I found your channel! I recently upgraded from my Cricut Explore Air to a Maker and I’m loving it ! You answer so many of the questions I have and you’re always thorough and clear in your explanations so thank you!!
@Angie Golden!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!! I want to purchase a Cricut Maker & didn’t know it does ALL of these things!! I have NO IDEA 🤷🏾♀️ on how to use, & knowing what blades to purchase… oh I need you!!! To help assist me!!
Angie have you ever cut Flower foam for making the thin .08 foam. It’s the foam you use an iron to curl the petals. I wondered if I’d use a rotary blade vs the fine blade??? Because it might tear.
Thank you for this video. It was very informative. I just purchased my Cricut Maker and I am new to all of the crafts it can make. I am a quilter, so I will be using the Maker mostly for applique, but I am excited about other crafts that it can make.
Seen your comment, maybe you can help me understand appliques... I organize hexagons to use little waste as possible but when I see it in view screen it separates them out instead of organizing them to use the whole piece of fabric... so how do I keep them all together once I get ready to make it or cut them.
Great video! We just bought a Cricut maker for different reasons but the main one was to create a stencil for tile floors that are 20” x 20” we are going to paint over the current tile. Sounds like we need a more durable stencil than the example and piece several together. Any ideas would be very helpful!
The biggest you can do is 12x24. So you would need to cut two and tape them together to get the 20 x20. I would repeat the design and make it slightly over lap. That being said, the largest I have ever bought the stencil film is 8 1/2 x 11 so you might want to start by looking for a material that is that large.
Hi Angie. Your videos are very informative and I have used them several times when trying new things with my Maker. At this time, I am trying to make stencils for card making using 10 mil Mylar. I have not yet been successful in getting my Maker to cut through it. I was wondering if you have any advice? I would also love to be able to engrave on the Mylar items.
GREAT instructions! THANKS! I was half way through and I realized you were not using the explore, but rather the cricut maker! So my question is, do you have a video showing what the explore air can cut!? I'm wondering if any cricut cuts through an lp vinyl record album! MANY THANKS and BLESSINGS!
Craft foam works on the Explore Air 2 as well. There's a craft foam setting in the "Custom" menu; I've been using the sticky-back craft foam. 3 passes isn't quite enough, but 5 passes works wonders. Though for the sticky-back foam, I find it works better to use the medium grip mat because the heavy grip mat likes to rip the backing paper. (Deep point blade; I wish the EA2 could use the knife! XD)
I got a lot of really useful information from this video. You make everything very easy to understand. Thank you! Where can I get the cut file for the copper box? I couldn't find it under your Cricut profile and the link says it is not working anymore.
Hi Angie, great video! QUESTION: You mention chipboard, but you did not mention a specific mm thickness the Cricut can handle. How do you think it would do with 1.5mm Chipboard; and, what blade/setting would you use? Thanks!
I have cut up to 2 mm so I think it will work fine. You will want to use the knife blade and the heavy chipboard setting. Start checking about half way through the cut to see if it is cut all the way through. You can see more about the knife blade in this video: ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html
I am wondering if "painting a stop-fray solution" (making sure it's fully dried) on the satin fabric before you cut it would work? Though, possibly it could "gum up" the blade? Just a thought.
Angie, Thank you for your awesome videos, you are so easy to listen to and You leave out all the yap, yap that turn me off on other videos. Keep up your great work. Xo
I just got my knife blade and cut basswood for the first time, and it cut through my mat! Any tips for that? I calibrated the blade before using it and used the basswood material setting. Thanks for this video!
You really need to check your cuts on the knife blade. I start about 1/2 way through the recommended passes. Hit the pause button and just check to see if it is cut through then un-pause if not or remove the mat if it is. Yes, this can happen.
@@AngieHolden thanks! I tried again yesterday and really watched it as it went through the passes this time - and it was cut through with half the passes that the Cricut was going to do! So no cut mat this time! Thanks again!
I understand you showed us how to cut plastics, but wanted to know if you can cut acrylic. We have a business so I can purchase acrylic in different sizes. I can get 1/16” and 1/8” acrylic as those up to 3/4”. Can the Maker cut any of this product.

Hi Angie, so happy to see your channel as I’m about to buy my first cricut. One question please, can I cut acrylic with cricut? If yes, what is the most thickness it can cut? Thanks in advance for your reply and thanks for sharing this lovely video 👍🏽
Hi Angie, This was such a cool video. I just ordered my Cricut Maker in Blue! I have been watching a bunch of videos trying to get to know my machine before it arrives early next week. I think it's really going to add some great personalization abilities to the several different products I make at home for my Etsy shop. I just subscribed because I know I'm going to be watching ALL of your videos starting now. I make concrete planters so I plan to make some vinyl stickers and stencils for that. I make soy candels and I'm sure there are tons of cool things I can do with them. I also make ring dishes and this is really going to take them to the next level. I'm very excited!
Angie, I'm new to Cricut and have an Explore air2. I need to cut out a script font name out of wood but am getting conflicting information from all the videos I watch. What's the strongest wood that will give me the cleanest cut with the Air2? I'm applying the cut-out name to a larger board so I could double it up and glue it together. What wood would you use?
This was a very informative video. I am getting my Cricut Maker tomorrow, and one of my interests in it is to make die cuts for papercrafting. I want to do the same thing that a Sizzix big shot will do only without having to buy the die cut metals. I would like to use design space to make my own sentiments for my projects. Will the Cricut cut out sticker paper?
Adorable Adornments I just got mine for Christmas a gift to me from me! I am also still new to everything and finding it very hard to sleep, because I keep thinking about All the projects I can do!
I just bought the Cricut Maker online (haven’t received it yet) but I chose this machine because, as you said in the video, I heard you can layer wood to make it thicker. My goal is to make some really nice, thick lettering for craft projects. Can you do a tutorial on how exactly to layer the wood? I don’t want to be able to see the various layers from a side view - which is part of my concern. Is there a way to hide that? Thank you in advance!
This is probably a stupid question but when it says print then cut does the Cricut do the printing and the culturing or do I have to use an actual printer? And how does that work? Do you use the same material sorry I’m a beginner and I’ve had my crunchy maker for 2 years and just now trying to use it bc I’ve always been intimidated by my maker
I was thinking about cutting thin wood from dollar tree not sure what setting? Also had a fail with a thin plastic platter it needed to be cut a little deeper what is a good setting for both?
I would do the thicker basswood setting but pause it every 5 or so passes and check to see if it is cut through. After you do one project, you will know for next time how long it takes.
I am interested in using vinyl stencils and transfer paper to apply text onto canvas in order to create depth using molding paste. Will the circuit maker cut 1/8 inch or 3.17 mm thick vinyl?
Hi Angie, a company called Evergreen Scale Models makes .040" (1mm) sheets of polystyrene that has the front side milled into miniature siding patterns such as clapboard and grooved for making model buildings. I'm wondering if the Cricut can cut polystyrene material that thick and would it damage the texture of the siding? It would be great to be able to cut out window openings and individual wall pieces to scale. Please add this material to one of your future material tests. Thanks.
I make stencils for friends of mine who do curb addressing so they can add art to the curb address. I've been using a 900 degree hot knife to cut the stencils, which are .030". It is VERY dense material, and i wouldn't even put the blade through it. I am in the process of attempting to cut plastic that is referred to as Heavy Duty Template Plastic by Dritz (for making quilting templates). It's maybe half as thick as the styrene, and not as rigid. The Cricut is telling me it's going to take 24 passes just to cut this piece. I use Photoshop to determine the perimeter of the cutting area of each stencil - this one is 50 inches of cutting distance total. I'm doing about 1/3 of that on this cut that's in the machine right now. So to give you an idea how long this will take (IF it works), i'm 23 minutes in, and the machine is 3% of the way through it's first pass!! The reason is that with the knife blade (the most powerful one), it just stabs through the plastic a bit, then stabs next to that stab, overlapping slightly at about 2 per second. Takes a a couple of seconds per inch or so. INCREDIBLY time consuming. I'd had a snafu earlier when the power accidentally cut off, and had to start over. I was 3 passes in, at one hour. So do the math and gag. Personally, considering the cost of blades and the incredible amount of time this cutting is taking, i'd have been better off just doing the usual hot knife method. But i needed to give this machine a shot with the heavier material. If you would like some tips on cutting the styrene with the hot knife, i've been doing it consistently for 10 years, and it's definitely got a bit of a learning curve. You can message me here on youtube.
@@AngieHolden please read my comment to Ron. Sure you can give it a shot, but i will warn you to have extra blades around. I was about to ask you to try .030 styrene (flat), as long as Cricut is covering you. (I can't afford any more experiments, being on a fixed income, and out of gift cards. And THANK YOU for this work you are doing. It's sad that Cricut leaves it to us to figure out this very technical equipment. Very expensive learning experience. But folks like you REALLY help!!!
Loved the video and your craft shelves! Have you tried corrugated cardboard on the Maker? Nothing overly intricate, but let's say a knight shield shape or the tracing of your hand. I can't find any videos that show cutting cardboard (not chip board), but like a moving box. Thanks!!
What’s great video! I have decided to purchase a Maker as soon as I save the funds. Watching tons of videos and keep getting amazed at what this machine can do! You popped up in my feed today and I like you! 👍🏽😊👍🏽 I am subscribing 🙌🏽
I have been cutting faux leather, like from hobby lobby. Most cuts great but the faux leather Ribbon that is rippled has been a chore.Ir comes on a roll and has beautiful colors from Hobby lobby. Have you tried it yet? Love to see a youtube on it. loved this one.....thanks
@angieholden yes, Hobby Lobby Faux Leather in the ribbon section. It doesn’t stay on the purple mat well enough to get through the cut. Thank you for this video, great info!!
Love your videos!! What mat & blade do you recommend for the Shrinky Dink material? Would love to show my 4 yr. old granddaughter some of the crafts I used to do as a child!! Thanks, & keep up the great work - I look forward to seeing more from you!!!!
I'm wondering if it will cut that 12x12 self adhesive floor tiles? They are flexible but worried they may be too thick. Thinking about the wood looking tiles. I think that would be so pretty and endless if it did. I might try it with mine.

Cutting hexagons, I place them so no material is wasted, when I push make it, it actually seperated them in to rows. How do I get the program to cut them as i designed them? Thanks
Angie HELP!!😭 I need to reset my maker but don't know how. It says to press the menu button and power button at the same time. I only hv power, feed button, C and pause. So what do I do?
Angie, this is a great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm looking into purchasing a Maker specifically to cut vinyl, I don't intend on cutting very intricate shapes out of them, I basically want to print a full design perhaps flowers or something as a border with different fonts of text onto a rectangle and be able to stick it onto the wall - so excuse my ignorance in this but will I be able to print full color on white or black vinyl or lets say white bold font on pink vinyl? Any tips would be so helpful. Thanks!
Angie I need your help! I'm making a simple box out of thick cardstock so on the last setting on the dial. When I attach my cut to all the score lines and make them all one, for some reason the score lines get knocked over by a mm or 2mm and I don't know why. Help!
@@AngieHolden I clicked on each one separately rather than select all as they all go out of kilter together. I'll have another go in the morning and check my tools are and everything is clicked in place. If it doesn't resolve itself then I may add lines in photoshop instead of the shape, score line. Then I can convert the lines to score marks and see if that helps. I'll let you know how I get on!
@@AngieHolden Hi Angie, I've had an interesting development! So, I designed my box in photoshop and used the line tool on another layer where I wanted my score lines to be. I recut everything on design space and the same problem happened with the score lines being knocked out of whack. So I then moved my score lines up on the mat in design space by a few mm's, attached the cut design and hey presto it made everything OK. I guess this means my score tool holder is out of alignment or blade holder. I calibrated the print/cut feature too and it cuts out of alignment by again a few mm's. I think I'll just have have to work with it and make adjustments each time I make something
I love the ides of using shrinky dinks material to make my own customized buttons!! My Circut maker is coming any day now! Thanks for the ideas and inspiration.
Hello I'm very new to your channel and I hope this is in a repeat it question but I'm thinking of buying either the Cricut maker or the Cameo 3 which one is better for designing your own designs
That is a hard question! The Silhouette software is harder to learn but more robust for designing. If you are strong with computers, you may really like it! If you want all the bells and whistles, I would recommend designing in something like Adobe Illustrator and then you can upload to either!
Hi Angie I’m gonna be doing a project and it requires the words or pictures to be like really really small. To be exact this is the measurement 1.75 0.75. Is it possible to do a project this small? Tia
How did you get into this kinda thing? I love making things and I really want to start making things and selling them but I’m worried they won’t be up to other people’s standards or I’ll waste my money etc
great video. you get right to the point!! :) and No music playing in the background so you can be heard and a person can pay attention to YOU. Thank you for that. question- what about different kinds of wood?also, as in sewing you have 2 pair of scissors, 1material,1 for everything else-foam,copper etc. would that be wise to have 2 rotary cutter blades for maker, or how does it hold up. I've used mine once so for- material only. can that blade be sharpened ? if run it thru aluminium foil? still newbie, trying to learn everything all at once.. lol :) thank you again for all your info.
You can cut both balsa and basswoood. I have never felt a need for two rotary blades. They are extremely durable and I wouldn't worry about sharpening them. The copper you actually use another blade. Mostly you are going to use the rotary blade for fabric like things!

You have to have a separate printer. The software for the Cricut will send the file with special lines that will tell it where to cut.
The maximum thickness for this machine is 2.4 mm on any material.
Thanks.
I will! Can’t wait to try it!
Loved the video, very informative
Loved the video and your craft shelves! Have you tried corrugated cardboard on the Maker? Nothing overly intricate, but let's say a knight shield shape or the tracing of your hand. I can't find any videos that show cutting cardboard (not chip board), but like a moving box. Thanks!!
Yes I have! Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html
@@AngieHolden Thank you! That was EXACTLY what I need to see!! Super excited!
Really good video thanks for sharing
You are awesome! So glad to be learning this BEFORE, I get my maker. You are awesome, go you.
Thank you!
What’s great video! I have decided to purchase a Maker as soon as I save the funds. Watching tons of videos and keep getting amazed at what this machine can do! You popped up in my feed today and I like you! 👍🏽😊👍🏽
I am subscribing 🙌🏽
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much, you are easy to follow and nice to listen to
Glad it was helpful!
Hmmm....I have not tried that! It is faux leather? Or just ribbon?
@angieholden yes, Hobby Lobby Faux Leather in the ribbon section. It doesn’t stay on the purple mat well enough to get through the cut. Thank you for this video, great info!!
Can you cut corrugated plastic with the maker? I know you can cut cardboard, but curious about the corrugated plastic since I want to make yard cards.
I am pretty sure that material is too thick for the machine. I have had several people ask but I don't have any that I have actually tried.
Thank you Angie I just purchased a Cricut maker and I’m eager to learn.
could you be more specific about the glue mixture and stiffening process for burlap you mentioned?
You can see a video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/QLT6fWWuu3M/v-deo.html
Question: The "heat formed plastic" that you mentioned.... Is that Worbla? , and what thickness was it?
I used the one from ETI. Not sure how thick it is.
Love your videos!! What mat & blade do you recommend for the Shrinky Dink material? Would love to show my 4 yr. old granddaughter some of the crafts I used to do as a child!! Thanks, & keep up the great work - I look forward to seeing more from you!!!!
Just the fine point or deep cut works and the green mat.
Excellent video!! Great tips and ideas!! Thank you very much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I only have the Cricut Joy. I’m pretty sure I can cut acetate on it. Is acetate a good stencil material to use?
Yes that should work well!
@@AngieHolden thank you. I enjoy your videos and learn so much.
I'm wondering if it will cut that 12x12 self adhesive floor tiles? They are flexible but worried they may be too thick. Thinking about the wood looking tiles. I think that would be so pretty and endless if it did. I might try it with mine.
I have not tried those. I am worried about them being too thick but I have been surprised before.
@@AngieHolden I'm still a newbie to my maker. I just made a couple things today. I'm not used to working with equipment like this. The maker was a birthday gift to myself...lol. Once you get started using it you cant stop...lol
You will be making all the things now!
@@AngieHolden you're probably right. Any excuse to use it...lol
Hello Angie, have you made a Cricut Air explorer 2 review? I just bought one and I’m so sad to find out that isn’t as good as the maker...
I have several videos! Try this one: ua-cam.com/video/N55NDCj-z-M/v-deo.html
With the Dollar Tree plastic cutting boards comes 2 in a pack I made stencils out of that with my cricut Explorer Air 2 and the deep point blade and OMG I finally got it now I have the maker so I'm guessing it works even better with the knife blade
And just like you said I played with the settings
And I love your videos have done some of your projects while learning and I'm happy I have learned so much through you thank you for your time
Thank you! Curious if you have tried to cut a record album?
I have not. I am doubtful it will work.
Hi, awaiting delivery of my new cricut maker, I am a compete novice! I will need to cut 1mm sticky backed cork. I would love to see a demo please.
Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/i2GTAm8gtHM/v-deo.html I would definitely use the rotary blade as it cuts it the best!
Angie Holden thank you, watched the video, can’t wait to try it x
Cutting hexagons, I place them so no material is wasted, when I push make it, it actually seperated them in to rows. How do I get the program to cut them as i designed them? Thanks
Highlight them all and click attach. It will not move them if you do that.
This was very helpful. Thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
would i be able to engrave a thicker piece of copper other than a sheet to make engraving prints (printmaking) with?
I have engraved aluminum like this. You can see my video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/t3DEJmUEF6k/v-deo.html
Hi Angie...have you made anything with fabric backed cork?
I have not. I haven't even heard of that!
Do you have a link for Makers plastic? I can’t find anything called that.
This video is several years old. I linked to it in the description but I am not sure if it is still being made.
Angie HELP!!😭 I need to reset my maker but don't know how. It says to press the menu button and power button at the same time. I only hv power, feed button, C and pause. So what do I do?
Those instructions are for a very old Cricut machine and not the Maker. Why do you need to reset the Maker and who asked you to do that?
Finally I got the answers about cutting plastic😁I'm buying this weekend. Thanks
Let us know how it goes!
Hi, on the satin you could spray with either a starch or Terial Magic, I am sure you will no longer have the fray problem.
That would probably help! You will still need to be extra careful when pulling up from the mat though!
What’s the name of the heat form plastic that you mentioned in the video. Can we buy it online?
Yep! You can find those here: www.thecountrychiccottage.net/cricut-maker-cut/
Thanks!
You will need printable vinyl. You can see me use it here: ua-cam.com/video/F9iFUjTxe2M/v-deo.html
Angie I just watched this video. Just wondering if you can cut edible paper? Learned a lot by the way!
The problem is that the Maker is not food safe. So while it will cut it I don't think you would want to.
Angie I need your help! I'm making a simple box out of thick cardstock so on the last setting on the dial. When I attach my cut to all the score lines and make them all one, for some reason the score lines get knocked over by a mm or 2mm and I don't know why. Help!
Hmmm that is weird! Can you try attaching one at a time and see if just one of them is the problem?
Wow! It must be your machine then. Well at least you know now!
I wonder if you could shellac the stencil material to reinforce it?
Hmmm...not sure if that would work?
Can you cut material that you can use to go on top of a name plate for a Stanley like a name
No. That would be something a laser would cut.
I love the ides of using shrinky dinks material to make my own customized buttons!! My Circut maker is coming any day now! Thanks for the ideas and inspiration.
A wealth of great information. Thanks
Hi how can print on cut out wedding invitation and rsvp cards. I’m new to cricut and I have a cricut maker. Thanks
Try this for more info on print then cut: ua-cam.com/video/XMGzJOR35bY/v-deo.html
Angie Holden thank you
Hello I'm very new to your channel and I hope this is in a repeat it question but I'm thinking of buying either the Cricut maker or the Cameo 3 which one is better for designing your own designs
That is a hard question! The Silhouette software is harder to learn but more robust for designing. If you are strong with computers, you may really like it! If you want all the bells and whistles, I would recommend designing in something like Adobe Illustrator and then you can upload to either!
@@AngieHolden thank you
Hi Angie I’m gonna be doing a project and it requires the words or pictures to be like really really small. To be exact this is the measurement 1.75 0.75. Is it possible to do a project this small? Tia
I have done REALLY small projects but it will require some patience. If you are using paper, find the intricate cut setting and try that.
How did you get into this kinda thing? I love making things and I really want to start making things and selling them but I’m worried they won’t be up to other people’s standards or I’ll waste my money etc
Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/W-asMp4vOOI/v-deo.html
Luggage tags . Shrink stuff so cool thank you
Awesome video, Angie! Thank you! I didn't catch which blade worked best on the stencil material...deep cut, knife blade, fine point?
Just the standard fine point worked for me! Try the copper setting though as the stencil material setting didn't do a great job.
I would go with deep cut if you have it but find point works after multiple passes.
great video. you get right to the point!!
@@AngieHolden thank you for your answer and taking the time to do so.. :)happy crafting
what blade did u use for the stencil material?
Just the fine point blade is fine.
on the leather do you just use the leather setting already on the machine
Yes I do.
Hi, can it cut rubber e..g a recycled bike inner tube?
I have never tried anything like that. Can you cut it with like a craft knife and a ruler?
Wow, super amazing. I am such a newbie or noob since generation changes.🤣. It videos are very informative. And the step by step instructions are so help. One video knocked out a lot of questions. I was going though my craft stuff organizing and was asking wonder if my Cricut Maker could cut this, that, or the other. I know it takes practice learn the cut on the machine and what depth to use. I glad I have a lot of extra play material I have collected over the years. But the one I am totally excited about...... Yeah Shrinky Dinks. So old school fun. Now your talking. On to next video. Got a lot to learn. 😊
Shrinky dinks are so much fun!!
Where can you buy the Shrinky Dinks material? TIA! 😊
Great video, thanks
Can you cut thicker copper by running it through several times on the copper setting?
I didn't have any luck doing that. I have tried before.
Angie Holden Thank you
What is the stencil material that you used?
I used this: shrsl.com/a8yo-17t6-daeypy_1-1
Thanks for this tutorial. I just bought a Cricut Maker and I am really disappointed that there were not any real instructions with it. I have found a wealth of information on UA-cam, but it seems like the company would have more instructions with it.
Let me know if there is anything you are struggling with Ronda! I am sure we have a video for it.
Hi Angie, thanks for the info. Have you tried cutting raw polymer clay with cricut?
I have not! I do want to try it though!
I’m excited to know your experience. Please share it when you do.
Where did you buy the stencil material?
I think Amazon. Try searching for stencil film.
