    After trading in my Silverado for a new Tacoma, it was time to build a new truck camping setup. In this video, I go over the details of the build including my electrical system, 2KW diesel heater, general construction, finishes, and entertainment system. This build turned out fantastic!
    With a little imagination and some basic tools, building a custom truck camping setup to your own specifications and needs is a fun way to get out and enjoy camping and exploring on the road.

    Outstanding build! A nice mix of attention to detail using cost effective parts. I’ve used many of the parts you show in various boat and trailer projects over the years, the way you put them together and finish is top notch. Thanks for taking the time to put this together, I’ll be using several of your ideas.

    Loving your content! For your seats use seat jackers from "Desert Does It" it makes a world of difference. They're aluminum blocks l that bolt to your floor of the truck and jack the front of your seat up by 1.25 inch and gives you a better seat position for your legs and will give you a more truck like feel.

      It's not. I added rubber furniture type feet to the bottom of the box. They sink into the bedrug and hold it pretty securely in place. truth be told, I've done this on all my builds and none have ever moved, even on some crazy BLM trails.
      Thanks for watching.

      Thank you!
      I don't miss the Chevy specifically, but I do miss having a full size truck. I originally wanted a Tundra but at the time I bought this truck, there wasn't much for inventory. Maybe in another year or two I'll look at 1/2 tons again.

    do you secure your 12v fridge to keep from bouncing around during offroading?

    • @Outside605

      If it's really rough, I throw a bungee strap around it. Seems to work well enough.

    I just started building my own rig out of 2x2 per your suggestion. I got my wood from Lowe’s, not the next quality. Not nearly as square and straight as the wood in your picture. Where did you get your lumber!!??

      Haha, true story. You have to do a lot of sorting through the pile to find decent ones.

    Very, very nice DIY build. Question or maybe I missed it doesn't a diesel heater need an air intake and exhaust and if so where is it on your truck?

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  10 місяців тому

      Thank you. The intake and exhaust run through the bed of the truck via a turret plate. I will have a video on this soon.

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  8 місяців тому

      Not really but I'm also not doing any hardcore off road. Mainly BLM trails to get to remote camping areas. It stays put very well. I suppose I could always use a heavy bungee cord if needed.

    How do you get your smart alternator to put out enough power to charge the battery? Normally the alternators kick off at a certain point? I'm new at this, so just asking. Thanks.

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  7 місяців тому +1

      I don't charge from the alternator. I do all of my charging with shore power (ac outlet) or with a small generator.

  • @reidmartin3479
    @reidmartin3479 8 місяців тому

    You need a dcdc charger! Love the build though

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  7 місяців тому

      I'm using a Lithium battery and I'm not sure how well those two play together. Something to look into though.

    • @reidmartin3479
      @reidmartin3479 7 місяців тому

      @@Outside605 almost every charger available on the market should be compatible with lithium. Much better to charge your second battery as you drive! I’ve got the renogy one with mppt you can hook solar directly to and 100ah of lithium

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  7 місяців тому

      I assumed you meant charging off the trucks alternator. In boats, lithium starting batteries are a no no for most outboard manufacturers because the charging output of the alternator doesn't work with *most* lithiums. Mercury for instance, approved a very specific lithium battery where the BMS accepts the alternator output. A generic amazon lithium (like the one in my video) would just shut down in that instance.
