Fighting only 3 rounds in the almost 4 yrs leading up to this fight. The GREATEST was the 1st man to stop the awesome Bonavena, with the beautifully timed left hook. In the FIFTEENTH round. His will to win is second to none. What is also evident is that he was even stronger than Bonavena, who was as strong as an ox and built like a Tank. He truly had it all. He will always be the Heavyweight champion of the world, as no one will ever surpass him.
He almost dropped Muhammad there with that left hook. Joe Frazier once said that banging into Oscar bonavina felt like running into a refrigerator. Tough guy. Good win for Ali especially after the layoff
Forgot about that Bonevena punch in the 9th that staggered ALi pretty bad, but Ali had one of the best chins of any Heavy ever, good test for ALi before the Frazier fight. Bonevena was tough fight for anybody, he was so unorthodox and awkward and strong as a bull. Just was too slow for ALi's quickness on defense, ali was phenomenal when he went on offense but he was always a defensive fighter first, before he got someone out of position and ripped those lightning combos.
I don't know if Ali deserved to be called Athlete of the Century, or not. Debatable. BUT-This fight showed the layoff rust. In his defense, he seemed to get better as the fight went on. This is one of the very few Ali fights from back then that I didn't see. This was the first time I've seen it. Thank you for posting it. Nice job. In hindsight, I think Ali should've had a couple more tuneup fights before he fought Frazier, as this fight was only 90 days before the Frazier fight. He was obviously NOT the Ali of 1967. I doubt he ever was that fighter again. But 90% of the 1967 Ali was still one Helluva fighter. He relied more on fighting smart after he lost to Frazier. The 1967 version relied on smarts AND physical abilities. THATS the difference between this version of Ali, and the peak, 1967 version, in my opinion...
Who do you think should be called athlete of the century. Just that part of your comment nearly discredits everything else you said. Anyone who can’t appreciate Ali for what he was to put it bluntly is an idi*t.
Bonevena was awkward and not real easy to hit, he was always a tough fight for many a fighter, his style was very unorthodox, he fought Frazier 20+ rounds and Joe was exhausted after each fight. He wasnt just awkward but tough also.
How I miss real fighters..... Holmes, Tyson Fury, Holyfield, The Bronze Bomber, Klitschko, , Lewis.... They all seem second ranked compared to Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Liston and others. What we see today are showboaters that fights every 2 years. I wonder why they are not wearing a nice little dress in the ring. They look like Primadonnas, they act like Primadonnas and the only thing we dont know are when they are having their ovulation. Sorry boxing fans. We dont see men today in Boxing. We see actors. Bad actors
Your only as good as your competition, and no heavyweight ever fought a tougher lineup, 1960 to 1980, the best in division history. Even after losing almost 4 years of his prime. He was, and always will be, the Greatest.
@@ppal64 Yes I was wrong about that. He called Ali, Clay at the weigh in and called him chicken for not joining the army. After the fight Bonavena apologized and said he just did to sell tickets. He also called Ali a great champion.
Ali had that two fight stretch of Bonavena/Frazier where he wore the sharp red trunks. I believe he wore blue once against Cooper. Beyond that, it was always white.
I haven't seen this in years. Forgot how rusty Ali looked in this fight. Ali needed more warm up fights as Frazier made him look bad in their first fight.

Ali isn't even in my top 10. Yawn.
@@nastybastardatlive lol you have a top 10 lol lol
@@nastybastardatlive your top 10 consists of Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin right?
Athlete Of The Century, In just six months, upon his return, he faced the No. 1 contender, No. 2 contender and champion.
And lost to all of them. That’s your greatest boxer? Lmao!
He lost to Frazier but who else?

Allah rahmet eylesin mekanı cennet olsun nur içinde yatsın ruhuna Fatiha ❤️🇹🇷 Muhammed Ali ❤️
This is the closest you can get to Rocky Balboa vs Mohammad Ali... woww 😲😲😲
The Greatest Mohammad Ali

Brave and Brilliant Muhammad Ali
Oscar Bonavena orgulho do povo Argentino, grande boxeador
Amazing Ali
I hear in his voice that Howard Cosell wanted his friend Champ to win.
Ali looked very rusty from that several years layoff but still got the win
Always great spirits Muhammad Ali

The foot work and defense was rusty the hand speed was there
Ali didn't hit when opponent was down was great
Say what you want but that Bonavena was very tough and a great boxer.
The greatest.
3:02 - 3:19 Damn, Ali almost got knocked down with that left hook by Bonavena
Muy rustico Bonavena muy impreciso....con un corazón enorme!!!!
Great audio

1000% you're right bro "actor "
Totally, Ali is the greatest ever, Foreman and Liston would annihilate the current heavyweights.

Ali was just playing around with him😭
Ali saying to him " what's my name say my real name " R.I.P. Champ
We miss you 😓
We miss you bro
The "what's my name fight" was against Ernie Terrell in 1967. Oscar Bonavena didn't disrespect Ali in this way.
@@DrumAndDrumber I stand corrected. Thanks for the link Abraham.
Called Ali chicken.

The referee's count for the knockdowns were terrible... If Bonavena would've have a good technique he might have even been a champion
Good win, definitely, but my God, Ali has no defence at all.
Ali’s record when he knocked down bonavena was 31-0-0
6:42 Misheard Subtitles "Quarter"

That left! No metter which...
I haven't seen this in years. Forgot how rusty Ali looked in this fight. Ali needed more warm up fights as Frazier made him look bad in their first fight.
No he didn’t check the punch stats
Frazier couldn't dent Oscar. Ali stops him. I thought for certain Ali would beat Frazier.
In a normal fight Ali would have beat him. But he pissed off Frazier too much
Ali had seemed to have lost a lot of his ring sense. I've never seen him look this clumsy.
It was that left
Il più grande di tutti i tempi 👍💪💪💪💪
The referee never counted to ten after any of the three knockouts. What a shame.
Ali bumayeh 😅😅

What a shame that referee! He clearly missed the count after Bonavena went down.
He remind me of chino maidana
Oscar Wilde
That will teach this punk a Lesson.
6:37 - 6:48 - 7:01
Bonavena is like a raging bull blocking so many punches with his head and horns. Ali beat respect into this fraud.

Ali fought a lot of bums.
If there had been actual officiating in Ali's fights, he wouldn't have won so many, ie:Frazier, Foreman....
