I think many recognized that Tommy not only had something special but, more importantly, was a good man. Like many, he had shortcomings but, always got back up, until his body couldn't. He's greatly missed and appreciated by those who recognized what he meant to many people and the love he had for those around him.
Yeah, it’s sad that so many focus on the fact that the a hole hid he was HIV positive and continued to fight. He easily could have infected others. He was NOT a good guy. Good guys don’t hide that they have a disease that could kill you if you mingled blood.
Sat close to Tommy on a Soutwest Airlines flight many years ago. Most people left him alone but there was a small group of young ladies who couldn't help themselves and had to have pictures, etc. Tommy was kind and gracious.
I was a fan of Morrison as a kid. His left hook was devastating! Too bad he took his talent for granted. He would have been one of the Greats easy. RIP Tommy Gun 🥊
Agreed; across many sports, not just boxing. When you watch basketball from the early 90's it seems the same game but a different class of player. Times have definitely changed. Its hard to nail it down to just one thing that's different now though, professionalism would be a great place to start though.

That is just the tiniest portion, imagine how it felt to take all those shots right to the jaw afterwards and still be able to put down your opponent. I've broken bones in my face and my elbow and I can guarantee you right now that I wouldn't keep fighting afterwards that's for damn sure lol.
@@cmsmith1031 not for a while now, unfortunately. Probably part of the reason women think toxic masculinity is a thing now, even though I've always just defended my own, and stayed the nice guy, myself. I had hands as a youth, and I was very powerful for 145lbs. Hut like 210, and fast like Prince Nassim in the day. Now I'm slower, not as powerful, and not really training anymore amd that's likely why. Moral of story, keep it up, even if ya never use it. Some day, the world may be such a way these skills are needed, so don't lose your arrows from your quiver, to find they've been dropped somewhere along the way, when you go to retrieve them.
There are marked differences in people's lifestyles. Some are more virtuous than others. Some deserve praise or censure respectively. The guy you criticised may have been a degenerate himself, and may have been totally aware of it too. He didn't compare himself to anybody, something you failed to observe. In fact, you were guilty of the same behaviour you criticized. With your logic, you looked as "holier than thou" as him, in the eyes of everyone reading your comment, you seeming better than him, boasting of abstaining from criticizing others as degenerates. In other words, you are better than him, in your own eyes.
Morrison was a great fighter at times. His attitude was good, and he knew what he had to work on, but his lifestyle out of the ring often left him less than adequately prepared for some of his fights. If he could have avoided the out of ring distractions he could have been one of the all time greats. That left hook was a bomb when it landed. But his right was pretty awesome, too. His biggest flaw was that he was too easy to hit. That could have been worked out if he just would have dedicated himself more to training and less to partying. Even as he was, he was one of the most exciting boxers of his era.
A shame he wasn’t more dedicated in his boxing career and was too busy partying and all that. He could have been listed as one of the greatest heavyweights. In actuality he is listed as one of the greatest but if he dedicated his life on his training he would be ranked much higher and definitely wouldn’t have had that awful upset.
He wasn't such a great fighter afterwards. A great fighter, is not only physical and skills. But also the right mentality and hard work to be the best. It's a shame because he could have gotten a lot more out of it.

Yh but all credibility is gone when you know he was an avid steriod user and aboided fighting in states with testing. So while skilled and likeable tarnishes his career
He was an decent heavyweight but just the great white hope/hype at the time tbh. As soon as his oppositions of opponents stepped up he started looking very bad and loosing very badley too.
You did a great job paying tribute to Morrison here. The man has passed on - giving him a tribute like this one is very well received by his fans,.family, and those who knew him. (By not showing the Mercer ko, and only focusing on the good, this does him well. You showed him get knocked down, then get back up to win..) what a great tribute.
In the years I drove taxi in Las Vegas, I had both Tommy and George Foreman on different occasions in my cab. Both men were very friendly and I especially enjoyed my conversation with Tommy. Rest in Peace Duke.
I love the humbleness, after most of his fights he doesn't talk about how good he is, he talks about how good he can be, thats the mindset I love to hear.
Yes, he was humble because it was shocking. Every time after a fight he would say he or WE learned a lot and after a win he would say WE got out of there with a win. Always giving credit to his team. He was just not disciplined / humble enough outside the ring because he thought he could party nearly every night late. John Brown his first trainer tried to get him to be more disciplined, but Morrison was hard headed and set in his partying ways.
Thanks 🙏🏼 so much for this! I just saw a JRE episode the other day talking about Tommy Morrison, and I thought, I’d love to see more coverage of him. Nicely done ☑️
Still can't watch a Tommy Morrison video without getting a bit emotional and saddened at how it all ended for him. That left hook and that nickname of his were both simply iconic. The Duke was one of the most underrated stars of the 90s heavyweights.

Any fighter who starts believing he is the best and cannot be beaten sooner or later stops trying to get better and loses in the ring. Definitely a boxer to emulate professionally in every way.
It's the best thing to do really especially in today's age because when you trash talk and predict you will. Win by knockout then go get your ass handed to you, you just look stupid and the Internet never forgets lol

There is audio missing near the halfway point of the video and ending at 8:44. Otherwise, awesome video. I was a huge boxing fan at this point in time. It was such an amazing period for the sport. Tommy is one of those boxers that hits harder and faster and with more ferocity than the average boxer. It’s visually apparent when you watch Tommy’s fights. The fact that Tommy continued fighting after breaking his jaw and winning the match shows hoe much heart he had. I was so hopeful that Tommy would live up to the hype and expectations, but he wanted to live life and have fun like most people in their 20’s. Sad story.
Most likely due to using copyrighted music since the next two fights after that part with missing sound are using a video game's soundtrack (Battlefield 1) and those parts got copyright striked.
Had the pleasure of meeting him twice. Once was in Virginia at an Arcade I worked at when he was training for a fight at VMI. Him and his coach came in and I gave them a bunch of free games. He signed an autograph that day for me and I got one for my Dad as well, who was also a huge fight fan. The second time I met him was in Vegas years later and my Dad was with me that time. We went to the weigh-in the day before and got to talk with him afterwards. He took pictures with my Dad and I and signed autographs again. He was to have fought Arthur Weathers the next day as a tune-up fight for his upcoming fight with Tyson. I asked him when he was gonna knock out Weathers and he said, "As soon as he makes a mistake." Unfortunately I never got to see him fight in person, because when my Dad and I were at the fight the next day, they announced that Morrison would not be fighting because of a medical reason. When I got back to L.A. I found out on the news that it was because of his HIV diagnosis. I was absolutely crushed to hear this news. He was still so young and had such a promising career ahead of him. Still has an impressive record for his relatively short career with 48 wins, 42 KO's, 3 losses and 1 draw. He without a doubt had one of the most devastating left hooks in boxing history and his right wasn't half bad either. Thanks for putting together this greatest hits of his.
@@Tovek There is dispute as to whether or not he even had HIV in the first place. Do some homework before casting aspersions.

Manny Pacquiao is a good man too. There are others! Have heart.
He was humble early on and in front of cameras, but behind the scenes he was as cocky and arrogant as his character in Rocky.

That is just the tiniest portion, imagine how it felt to take all those shots right to the jaw afterwards and still be able to put down your opponent. I've broken bones in my face and my elbow and I can guarantee you right now that I wouldn't keep fighting afterwards that's for damn sure lol.

@@wilmoney4619 Is that a big surprise for professional combatants?
@@wilmoney4619 And you are perfect right? GTFOH with your holier than thou bs. We all got our demons. You included.

But also the right mentality and hard work to be the best.

Damn you an OG dor that, must be good memories 😆
I love the humbleness, after most of his fights he doesn't talk about how good he is, he talks about how good he can be, thats the mindset I love to hear.
Not sure if that is being humble or just a focus on potential.
@@AnnaLVajda its being humble
Yes, he was humble because it was shocking. Every time after a fight he would say he or WE learned a lot and after a win he would say WE got out of there with a win. Always giving credit to his team. He was just not disciplined / humble enough outside the ring because he thought he could party nearly every night late. John Brown his first trainer tried to get him to be more disciplined, but Morrison was hard headed and set in his partying ways.

Strange how he often seemed to underrate himself. He was right, everyone can improve. RIP Man, you did good.

It's really sad we did not witness the progression of Tommy to the full, as he was very promising boxer
Sad story.
