Henry came to my school in Matlock Derbyshire,
because I kept sending him letters, I came out of school and he was stood there 😱
      he said,hello Billy 😀
      I couldn't even breathe 🤣
none of the kids knew who he was lol I told the teachers he was my dad 🤣🤣🤣🤣
we walked down into the town centre and got pop and crisps, about 10 minutes later a car came and picked him up 😰

@@winniepeg2020 I wrote to Jimmy Saville and he came round our mam's house in a big Rolls Royce and wanted to take me to see his hamsters but are mam and dad wouldn't let me, so my younger brother went instead. When he came home a week later he said 'uncle' Jimmy kept his hamsters in his pocket and he taught him how to walk like John Wayne, which he did for weeks afterwards, the show off he was back then.. Everyone at school was well jealous!

I saw a guy that did a lot of "hitting while holding".
Once he stopped holding Ali's arm,he became far less effective.

@Senior Billy Bull You’re still rambling on at length, so much so, if you haven’t done already done so you should write a book my friend.
I see you despise Ali deep down because of Nam. Personally, I think Ali was right not to go to Nam.
He had a damn good brain unlike numpty’s who think it’s right to wage war because puppets tell them. The same puppets who are dangled by the psychopaths who run the world, and people like you who feel so damn proud to fight such stupid wars for them, just to feel proud and a hero which, only glorifies war sad to say. And governments play on this hero shit more than ever today. Send them bastards instead.
Ali knew his stuff in this respect.
Personally, I think you are very jealous of Ali being far wiser than you.
Strong intuition/wisdom, the highest form of intelligence which, Ali had.
I once heard someone say that Ali didn’t go to Nam because he was a coward 😂
      Think about that!!

They all Stick and Move ( Jab and dance ) even though they could never perfect Ali's movements they still learnt a lot from him . Play Ali Liston first fight and watch Lewis fight they all learnt one thing from him STICK AND MOVE. Only after Ali did people adopt this Technique. Before that people fought toe to toe in a straight line. When I watch all these boxers , I see a lot of Alice movements in them. It's amazing to me the improvement Clay made and also his physical development between this fight and the Liston fight. The guy who fought Cooper would not have beaten Liston. But he matured a lot in the 5 months between the two fights. Incredible.

Indeed. Looked very beatable in his 10 rounder against Doug Jones too in his previous fight.
He had obviously trained out of his skin for Liston.

    • @jamesanthony5681
      @jamesanthony5681 2 роки тому +16

Not exactly. The transatlantic satellite picture (relatively new in 1963) distorted the physiques of both fighters.
In the first four rounds, Clay chose to fight Cooper straight up and in close, not moving much at all to his left or right. Bad strategy. After the knockdown, Clay got serious, peppered Henry with the jab, keeping him at a distance and eventually ending the fight. This fight reminded me of the two Leonard-Duran fights. In their fist fight, Leonard chose to slug it out with Duran and lost. In the rematch, Leonard moved a lot better, using his speed and jab for more often and more effectively, frustrating Duran to the point where he said 'no mas.'
Against Liston, Clay kept himself at a distance (Sonny had an 84" reach), moving superbly to his left and to his right, using the jab to great effect, against a fighter who could take him out with one or two punches. Clay split Liston's face open and that forced Sonny to quit. Clay didn't take Cooper seriously, however, he had a great deal of respect (understandably) for Liston.

@@ianr9898 I don't really buy that Liston bagged the first fight. I think he undertrained and believed all the hype of his invincibility. Clay basically kicked his ass and Sonny was humiliated and embarrassed--so he quit. Similar to 'No mas', in a way. The second fight was a different story. He definitely went 'in the tank'. I love this fight as one of the best matches of all time. It was a chess match between two very skilled boxers of very different styles. The highlights for me was Alis incredible jab just relentlessly scoring and wearing down Cooper. And of course Coopers clean as a bolt of lighting punch which really floored Ali and left him wobbly and dazed like no-one else ever achieved when he was in his prime.

Cooper again sustained a very bad cut over his left eye which required about 16 stitches to close. My mate Conor O Dwyer ( RIP) and I watched from the stand on our binoculars . Racism is something an opressing majority can perpetrate against an oppressed minority. Victims of racism are not racist if they hate the race that oppresses them!
The only people that hate Ali & call him racist are white racist fascist Americans!
You hate him for throwing off his slave name, you hate him for refusing to fight fascist corporate Amerikkka's illegal racist imperialist war of choice for profit in Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia which was continuously filled with US war crimes, atrocities & rapes!
You hate him for NOT being racist against the Vietnamese & other Asians when he said "Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam after so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?”
      &
"I ain't got no quarrel with themViet Cong"
      &
"no Vietcong ever called me nigger.”
Furthermore, the things he was saying for a time that prompt you to say that about him was just brainwashing from Elijah Muhammad but the reality was he had all sorts of white people in his corner, literally with Dundee, but also in the Louisville business group that originally backed and funded him.
He had many friends of every race over time, including my one time boss and great man Faz Husain, an Indian from India who took Ali on a tour of India and named his first son Ali after Muhammed. Ali was a pitcher for Michigan baseball.

Precedentemente, oltre a Marciano inserirei J.Lewis e Liston.

I would agree to disagree with you that Ali was coerced in following a certain agenda to appease the media and the personilities you mentioned. I think Ali had the foresight and courage to state "I ain't got no problem with the Vietcong and there would be no justification on my part to fight them". Especially stating that boldly in the very prime years of his boxing success, makes him a person of great integrity.
Anyway, those who were against the illegal war in Vietnam and against the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lybia, Syria and so on and so on, gains my utmost respect. Probably for that reason he earned my admirable respect and not for idolising him through the nefarious agenda of the media. I, personally approach the MSM with a jaundiced view, anyway. In fact the people who fell for "weapons of mass destruction" mantra were unwittingly and mindlessly brainwashed to believe that blatant lie spurned by the MSM. Perhaps I should end this conversation with an apt and pertinant book to read by Smedley Butler, viz, 'War is a racket' or a doccie called " All wars are banksters wars".

People underestimated Ali when he fought Liston for the first time in 64. This was an impressive victory and he proved himself to be a legitimate match for Liston, but some were so fixated on Liston's power as a puncher that they failed to consider Ali's speed, footwork, and endurance. Not to mention reach, and the ability to take a punch.

Gotta give Henry Cooper all the credit in the world, he was really willing to take it to Ali, and damn near pulled it off.
And although Cooper was only 29, he did have 8 years of exerience on the , still very young, Ali, and it showed.
And it also greatly helped Ali become the legend he was to become.
In a weird way it is similar to Lomochenko versus Salido, in that the older master taught the young aspiring master a trick or two.

The Frazier left hook knockdown in round 15 was more devastating than the Cooper knockdown for sure. Stunned badly and exhausted after all those rounds of punishment, Ali got up off the canvas and had to take more vicious shots from Frazier until the final bell. Incredible.

    • @JohnCashin
      @JohnCashin 4 роки тому +20

@@larryjohnson2306 Yes, it was more devastating, to be honest, but what I think made this Cooper knockdown more extraordinary in another way was that this was Cassius Clay/Muhamad Ali at his fastest. Back then, he was considered so fast that nobody could catch him with a really good solid blow but he could sure catch them, this was where 'float like a butterfly sting like a bee' came from, he was definitely the fastest heavyweight of all time, I question whether he was really the greatest of all time, because I think Jack Johnson was more deserving of having that said about him but Ali was unquestionably faster moving in his prime. By the mid-70s, he wasn't quite as fast as that though, he was only 22 in this Cooper fight, by 1974 he was in his 30s, the spring was still there but it was waining, he was heavier, getting older in boxing terms, etc and sadly we saw much worse decline by the end of the 70s, he should never have been allowed to go on for so long.
