Hi everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to once again apologize for the unfortunate circumstances surrounding this video's creation! Losing all my capture footage during the editing process was a nightmare. Things should be back to normal in upcoming videos. Thanks for your understanding!
It seems nowadays that a game has to be a 10/10 generational success both critically and financially to succeed. Because media and algorithms bush extremes to get clicks this doesn't help games as there isn't a middle ground any more, it's either good or bad. Coupled with people leading busy lives and having tight budgets means that people don't have a lot of free time or money meaning that they want to make sure they spend that on something really good usually. I think some things like the knock out animations and blaster combat didn't help the game however it does seem like a pretty good time and I'm looking forward to playing it when it's 50% off.
I think this is a great take overall. You're so right about extremity boosts engagement on the algorithm. That, paired up with busy lives, leads people to avoid games they see everyone is labeling as awful. If you only have a few hours for video games each week like I do, than you want that time to be well spent. I think getting this game half off is a great idea if you're hesitant. There's better games to buy for full price, but at a bargain, this one isn't bad. I don't regret spending $70 on it. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Star Wars as a brand is in the dumpster. There’s just apathy about the basic concept, unless it had gone full GTA style to reinvigorate a part of the brand
This is so true and I don't know what the solution for Star Wars apathy is. To me, Disney has milked the franchise too much, as everything feels so diluted. It's all just weaker stories or fan service, and it hasn't worked out well for them. They will keep making new things until something hits, and then that will be milked dry too. A sad state of things for a once beloved franchise.
I mean after playing it for like 10ish hours then dropping it I think that not only is outlaws the worst Ubisoft game I’ve played but also the worst triple a Star Wars game. The gameplay and particularly the stealth are just so broken that it did not work
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sly 3 has it's issues, but it still contains some of the best overall moments in the entire series. Looking back on these projects, I think that's what I'll take away most. Sly 2 had the best story, but Sly 3 had the best individual character moments.
to me it is just not my type of game. I would love to have a new star wars game but I don't enjoy stealth games, so I would rather have had a Mandalorian game where you just run and gun or jetpack and gun than a stealth game.
It is actually a bad game, but your opinion is still valid and if you enjoy you enjoy. For me this is a obvious political woke mess about political statements more then doing a good game that actually works at least.
I'd like to hear more about the political statements you believe this game makes. Genuinely asking for further elaboration. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I hate how ppl are bashing against games because they are "woke" or "anti-woke" because of how they characters look or if they decided to put a female or black person. Or if the person that did the Mo-cap for the character is an activist or their sexual orientation. I honestly dont care about that, i only care about how the game is and if it entertainsme. Good review
I don't think you know what "woke" is based on your comment here. First of all toxic actors deserve all the hatred they receive for being that way towards the audience. I sure hope you aren't claiming they are the victims here. As far as the "woke" agenda goes... it's more about forcing things on players that do not want to see an agenda pushed on them relaxing to play a game. One such example is top surgery for the new Dragon age. No logical reason for this to exist in a magical fantasy game other than to push a narrative. Contrast that to the main hero being a woman like Alloy it's just an organic reason and completely acceptable. One last thing. The show Shogun on Hulu received backlash from woke activists because there wasn't black people on the show. The show is about Asians and yet they can't help themselves to get upset about that. These activists don't care about anything else except DEI numbers and that's why Sweetbaby is attacked and their projects are failing.
You're more than welcome to buy the game, no one is stopping you, but you should notice a trend, here, woke people are woke because they are talentless, you'll notice that for example concord cost an ungodly amount of money, and they ended up having to outsource a ton of their technical work at the end to a more competent team. If you enjoy woke story telling go ahead, but the negative reviews are there to warn people because most people notice the trend that these games are generally terrible. At most we'll give you some light mockery for enjoying a woke game, most gamers don't really care what you do with your money of you went in with your eyes open, we just didn't want to see people get ripped off.
You've missed the plot. People don't care if the character is gay/non-binary or black or whatever as long as it makes sense and is not blatantly forced. Games for a while now have had agendas and quotas. This is not a conspiracy theory, there is a mountain of evidence. Women are uglified, white men are villainized, black people are all friendly etc. When it's obvious that a political ideology that you disagree in has heavily influenced the game that you are playing to the point where it doesn't feel organic or interesting, it makes the game less appealing. Outlaws tanked for different reasons though, they forced a lower age rating in a game about outlaws. That's why they were forced to have a 120lbs gal punch stormtroopers in the head instead of stabbing them for a takedown. You can't steal from regular people, you can't commandeer vehicles or do anything really remotely bad. You are just a goody two shoes weird looking chick. And to top it all off they made the game a stealth game with zero stealth mechanics and a terrible AI. Not to mention all the bugs and horribly bland story.
@@yanni-duff I care about Non-binary and trans degeneracy, gay should also be removed from all games because it's a sin and you should repent. I just don't care enough if the game is amazing like Baldurs gate III.
Disclaimer I haven't played the game, because the it looks awful. While I cant comment on game play that much besides the everything looking awful and so bare bones it makes a Sly game blush. I can comment on what I have scene of the story and its bad! Now I have not finished it yet so ill give a full comment then. I got to here in your review. 19:10 I will finish your review when I have finished watching the story. Until then this game is a half baked mess. And the most obvious example is Nix. Nix is obviously based on a axolotl, axolotl don't have hair, while Nix has fur on the bottom and feathers on the top. Giving Nix a uncanny valley look that made me unsettled. Nix being a bird, fish, dog is the most obvious example of them not being a able to make up there mind and trying to please everyone. He's also meant to pick pocket but is quite large and most of the time jumps on there butt and gives them hump for luck. Completely breaking any immersion.
its not a 130$ game its a 5$ game. if it was 5$ no problem. they want 130$ for it so every criticism is fair. If they want 130$ freaking dollars for the full game it better be flipping amazing. its not its sub par mediocre and worth about the same as half a big mac. 5$ or i aint buyin it.
I hope they are enjoying their modern audience. They said they don’t want fans like me, so we all left. I grew up loving Star Wars in a massive way. Now I won’t touch anything in the franchise. We will purge DEI from gaming. Those who refuse to acknowledge this are as tone deaf as the studios who are collapsing while scratching their heads.
What exactly has ruined Star Wars for you? I think even outside of personal/political ideology, there has been a lot of apathy towards the franchise in the last 10 years. Another question. I understand that a lot of people are not accepting of DEI in gaming, what is it about this game in particular that you think crosses the line for you personally?
@@nopnapnarp8047 first, thank you for being reasonable. Well phrased questions. Respectfully, are you in development or journalism? I grew up loving Star Wars. I could not possibly count the number of times I’ve seen the original trilogy, but also even the follow up trilogy. I owned lots of the games from rogue squadron to battlefront and others. I owned memorabilia and light sabers and some of that jazz too. So I was a fan. It’s a bit hard to articulate in a concise way. It (understandably to me) devolves into wokeness infecting the space. Because truly, the more refined specific examples stem back to ideology changing the product. I know it frustrates defenders, but it is the root of what has changed these things we love. The removal of masculinity. The inability to punch down. To inability to be edgy or risky or offensive - which can serve as humour or add depth to plot or characters etc. I just detest quotas being worshipped in media. Hire women. Hire LGBT folks. Hire whoever. But god damn make it in merit. Some projects will have little to no representation. Some will have a lot. It doesn’t matter. Just make it equal opportunity and hire the best talent. Right now, we do not have the best talent on projects (be it Star Wars or gaming). We have under qualified activists. So stuff takes longer to produce, costs more money, is injected with ideology, and much of the work gets outsourced to other studios to help them limp over the finish line. And the quality sucks. I’m playing Wukong right now and it is breathtaking. Visually stunning. It’s punishing and powerful and the gameplay mechanics are extremely deep. Compare that with outlaws that had a female lead (of course - they’ve explicitly stated that they want all games to feature lead women), who looks terrible, with overall underwhelming graphics, abysmal AI mechanics, a laughable stealth system and a soft “safe space” vibe to being an outlaw. You can’t do any outlaw things. I could go on. But it’s a cancer that is ruining the stuff we love. And I’m done. We’re done. We will smash things in sales that are free of “the western gospel”. But won’t touch any this shit they are poisoning. They gas light us about it existing. They hate their toxic fan base (which is most of their original fan base). So they can keep losing billions while scratching their heads.
I'm not in development or journalism. I'm just a guy who plays video games as a hobby and takes it a bit further by making videos as a creative outlet and as a bit of extra income. I think conversations like this are very important because while we obviously have disagreements, we can't let that devolve into - OMG DIFFERENT OPINION, THEYRE AUTOMATICALLY EVIL/BAD, etc. We can always respectfully disagree. I think you've outlined some good points. Yes, hire the person that is most qualified for the job. Levels of work ethic, talent, effort and other things like that are unique to every individual; and if you want your product to succeed, you're better off bringing in the most qualified person. I agree there. That being said, I think sometimes games get an unfair shake over DEI related things before the game is even released. There are some incredible games out there that incorporate that ideology in sometimes minor and sometimes major ways. I'm reminded of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 last year which definitely was inclusive, and Baldur's Gate 3 which was perhaps the most left-leaning game I've ever played. Both titles performed well critically and commercially. But there are other games that include DEI elements that don't do well, and are even complete failures in some cases - Concord, Outlaws, Forspoken, etc. I guess I just wonder how much of the criticism is genuinely about the game versus people going in wanting to hate a game for DEI inclusions. In the case of Outlaws, I think this is a perfectly fine game. I can only speak to my experience, but I didn't find it to be broken; just simple in most of it's systems. Lacking depth, but not awful. I'd say the game is average before it being good or bad. It makes me reflect on how extreme opinions are rewarded on social media platforms and their algorithms. Another commenter alluded to this as well, but in a world where every game is either a disgrace or an amazing experience, there's very little room to say a game is good not great or average not awful even if that's probably the case. The DEI stuff doesn't dissuade me from buying a game, but at the end of the day, everyone should vote with their wallet and use articulate their reasons for why they decide to purchase something or not. Some people take it to far by harassing developers or other industry members, and I can't get behind that at all. Vote with your wallet and make your voice heard respectfully. Also, yes, Star Wars now-a-days generally sucks overall. I was a childhood fan too, and it's really fallen off. Disney has milked it way too much.
