Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Review: Fantastic Game, Bad Teacher
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is the game I've always been waiting for - an updated version of the Budokai Tenkaichi series. It's full of iconic characters, locations, and scenes; all of which are presented with extra polish and care to honor the great Akira Toriyama's legacy and vision. The game isn't without it's flaws, the most notable being a lack of proper tutorials, but the game easily clears these hurdles for a nostalgic player like me. It's a game of the year candidate for me, no doubt!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Review
Переглядів 157Місяць тому
Echoes of Wisdom feels like a smaller scaled version of Tears of the Kingdom - full of room for creativity and packed with the Zelda staples we've come to know like dungeons, boss keys, rupees, items, and more. If the massive scale of Tears of the Kingdom seems intimidating, Echoes of Wisdom provides a more streamlined experience. Twitter: NopNapNarp
A Broken Review of Star Wars Outlaws: Not a Bad Game

You know, I think Star Wars Outlaws got an undeserved bad wrap. In the pursuit of clickable videos, many games are either made out to be immaculate or broken messes, but there are plenty of games that fall somewhere in the middle. I'm not saying Outlaws is amazing, but it isn't a bad game. Unfortunately, this review doesn't do as much justice for the game as I had initially planned. About 20% o...
Persona 3 Reload Review: Good, But Something's Missing

Persona 3 Reload is a good game, but I wouldn't call it a great Persona experience. Many new additions allow the game to meet the expectations of a modern audience; and the result is still a perfectly enjoyable video game; but there is something about it that disappoints - it feels like something has been lost while issues with the original have been brought forward. In this review, I tried to ...
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Review - A Challenge of Skill AND Faith

There's been a lot of talk about Shadow of the Erdtree's difficulty and while I do air more on the negative side in this review; there's no way I can call this DLC anything other than totally worth the price of admission. Shadow of the Erdtree is one of the most complete and jampacked DLCs in recent memory, rivaled only by Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion when it comes to games I've played....
A Sly-tly Short Look at Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus Emulation

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus isn't my favorite entry in the series, but there's been something so nostalgic and rewarding about revisiting it in 2024. Little Kitty Big City Review: Purfectly Cozy

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Review - Walking Backwards

Hellblade 2 is graphically stunning, one of the most breathtaking games you will ever see with strong audio work backing up those immaculate visuals. However, despite this beauty, it feels very empty and hollow from a gameplay perspective. Lots of slow walking is occasionally alleviated with puzzles and combat that are far easier and less engaging than what we got in Senua's Sacrifice. It leave...

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Review: Different, But Still Great

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a game I didn't expect to enjoy nearly as much as I did. However, I shouldn't be that surprised considering I had the same reaction to Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020. I've completed Sly 2 n 3 dozens of times over the years and even 4 twice but Sly 1 I'm sad to say I, very young at the time, rage quit trying to kill those damn chickens and I've never gone back.
I kind of wish the tutorial of this game was the prison break-in to talk to McSweeny instead of Dr. M’s island. Show instead of tell us a huge part of the narrative while also not causing the issues created by the flashback framing device.
Algorithm screwed you dude, keep up the great breakdowns!
Thanks so much for the kind words!

Super good review, really went into appreciated detail that a lot of reviewers skip
Thank you that means a lot!
Story mode is terrible and missing major moments from the series. Look at how dissapointing Vegeta’s story is. The what ifs are cool if limited to minor changes compared to the previous games what ifs. Severe lack of playable stages (we don’t even have the kami lookout ffs), characters are balanced according to their power levels in the series which I understand but that breaks the online portion of the game which is the focus. The roster is not only smaller than bt3 but omits characters that were in previous games which making odd decisions like not making vegeta ssjb not his own character. The offline game modes are pathetic, where are the tournaments that made the previous BT games iconic?? This game is fun and the devs definitely were/are fans of the series and that’s apparent but the game itself is half baked and lacking content. It’s still the honeymoon phase so people will glaze the game and intentionally look over the flaws it has.
Personally, I would have liked this game to have a more thorough campaign as I said in the review, but I guess they felt the story had been told so many times already that revisiting again would seem repetitive. I never watched the show so I'm not sure what I'm missing from Vegeta's story here. It is light, spanning only Saiyan to Majin Buu, but I didn't need another round of Zamasu and Goku Black segments, that's for sure. Never played the other games and honestly thought the what if scenarios were new, but I'm seeing now Xenoverse games had some of them. Sparking Zero does have a lot of them though. I did miss Kami house, but not sure what other locations were missing? Again, I never watched the show lol. I'd argue online is actually not the overall focus of the game. I'd say Custom Mode is. Ranked combat and online is there, and I could see people saying that's what they play for, but I don't think the developers ever intended to build a properly balanced competitive game. This game has many characters but they cheat a little bit with so many Goku, Vegeta and Gohan's; although I think including them all is a good thing. I did miss some fighters like Supreme Kai, Pikkon, and others. I think the game offers a lot of tournaments here, sufficient number of options imo. I don't think the game is perfect at all, and there is something to be said about nostalgia glazing (even for me in this very video) but it was the right game at the right time for me. I haven't been keeping up with the series, a chance to get back into these DBZ arena fighters meant a lot! I'm sorry the game didn't click for you and I hope it improves in DLC!
Oh shit they didn't include mountain road, glacier, kami house and kami lookout. Damn, forgot about those ones.
@ I do enjoy the game but as someone who not only grew up with the series but has and currently is keeping up with super the game leaves much to be desired. The game dropping 90% of players on steam is really telling. I think you should do a replay of the original BT trilogy (you can play the spin-offs if you’re so inclined) and the raging blast games and you’ll see how and why SZ is so dissapointing and lacking in content.
Sparking Zero could have really used some sort of challenge mode. I remember in Tenkaichi 2 (maybe in 1 and 3 as well, but I'm most familiar with 2) there was Ultimate Battle Z and I do think SZ would have benefitted from something similar. Wouldn't surprise me if it's added later. More content is always good.
@@Carlisle-mn3fv Also, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!
Really rough video for someone who allegedly loves the game. You constantly nitpick and compare it to modern games then call yourself out as if that excuses it and you say a bunch of wrong or contradictory stuff.
I think one of the toughest things for me when making this video was trying to maintain a critical eye since I knew I loved the game so much. I didn't want to spend the whole time gushing, but there are times in this video in which I overcorrected for that leading to some of the stuff you're talking about like the nitpicking. What really stands out to me was how I gave Sly 1's music the nod over Band of Thieves. Totally disagree with that now-a-days.
This video brought me joy and 2.5hrs of peace during a hectic era of my life. Your effort and time are appreciated! I keep being surprised by new (to me, I know this vid is 5yo, this just showed up in my recommended) reviews of games that I grew up with and hold dear
I'm glad this video reached you and brought you some joy during a chaotic time. My favorite thing about this video, along with my other Sly ones, is realizing how many people love the series as much as I do. Thanks for watching!
Small correction The cliffhanger wasn't setting up for a sequel, it was setting up for a DLC. One that was fully planned out with a plot and everything, but got cancelled by Sony before many details about it could release
I genuinely cant believe that Salim has a fly carpet. But that isn't his ancestors ability. Controlling a snake would also be cool. Kind of dishonored vibes.
I think Murry to mix him up should have feats of strength and those are big qtes. Murry could also get launched farther the trampolines, and because its funny to see Murry disguised up. Id give Murry the disguises. I think sly having disguises creates a few issues. The disguises eat up a tone of abilities that could be used for ancestors and feel gimmickie. Having Murry be one who dresses up could give Murry some cool attack's. Like Murry welding a big ball and chain could be really funny. Slowing down time being the most obveuise.
I think Galith should have a charge attack or the ability to ride a horse like the guru.
I think the gun gameplay characters are cool. But I have issues with the turret sections.
2:44:45 Did you forget that Penelope is the black baron and the black knight?
Clicking on videos like this while neurodivergent feels like an addict relapsing
Was curious by this video but it is hindered from not being able to show OG footage. Could have used at least some screenshots or other people´s footage, hard to enjoy comparisons without actually showing them on-screen. I completed Reignited once but watching the footage years later, I cannot remember anything from it. I think it was a mistake not to include the original game in the package. The original sounds are so iconic and the new sounds and adjusted music just do not cut it. Even bigger problem is the controls. Spyro does not control well at all and this is mostly apparent in the flying stages and supercharges which were mildly challenging in OG, are now utter nuissance. Spyro just cannot steer as precisely as he used to in 1998 (Crash suffered from the same exact thing). Overall, I agree with the final sentiment. I am glad that they remade it and made it accessible to new players but the original is still a superior way to experience these games, so if you can, please find a way to play them!
Trust me I would have loved to use original footage but I just don't have anyway to access it and record it with my current set-up and I'm hesitant to use other people's content in my videos. But I totally understand your point. I would choose the original in a heart beat if I could. Something about those PS1 graphics blended with the incredible skyboxes and sounds, man, that was something special. Thanks for taking the time to check out the video and leaving a thoughtful comment!

It's not a secret ending. Juat letting you know. Either that or my version of the game was some how fucked and I got it anyways. But still. Letting anyone know. Since I tried too get Sony on my own too bring sly cooper, ratchet and clank, and jak and daxter too steam as official ports instead of emulation. Who ever I talked too at don't said that we as fans would have too talk too the developers. After reminding the person that the companies work for Sony making Sony the person fans have too go through too get the games green lit at the end of the day. The person didn't have much too say after thar and kept doing copy paste answers and I told them. Take it as feedback and send it too the higher ups at Sony. There are fans who want the games on pc as official ports over emulation and that having official ports would show the players and show Sony when they are bought. The people still want these games over these copy and paste pvp shit shows. But overall. You want the games on pc as official ports. Contact Sony. Who will then tell you too contact the developers. With the developers telling you too contact Sony. An go in a vicious cycle till someone at Sony in a management/ceo position gets the message or sees what players want.
Brilliant video thank you! Currently working on my final 3rd year project at university (hair, makeup and prosthetics for performance) and im designing a game based on phobias and psychology, using until dawn as a big inspiration. I think it was a really good idea to give the egg thefts a lame collectable. It makes them extremely easy to ignore which is nice because there a pain in the ass. This is when looking things up on the internet wasn’t really a thing. Breaking the pace of later levels if you get stuck.
You can ignore them for awhile but you need them to leave Magic Crafters for Beast World

The voice acting across the board is also much better in Sly 2 than Sly 1. You say that Carmelita's voice actress in Sly 1 is better, but there's no subtlety in her performance whatsoever. In Sly 2, Carmelita actually has an emotional range. She's not just static the whole time. The same is true of characters like Rajan and Jean Bison, who you say have forgettable voices. Whereas a character like Mz. Ruby basically only has two tones, those being shrill and shrill but also angry.
2:37:40 In murray’s defense, he IS throwing them hard enough to rip apart metal alarm systems
Fair point!
How can you possibly say that the Sly 1 ost is more iconic than Sly 2? If you like 1's ost more, that's one thing, but Sly 2's ost is objectively more iconic. The Paris theme and Dimitri's themes are the most popular in the series by a landslide. You can look up all the songs on UA-cam. Those are the ones with by far the most views.
Can you do a Jax and Daxter critique? I love your videos
Truth be told, I've never played any of those games! I'd be more likely to cover Ratchet and Clank, but right now I'm focusing on new games and the Spyro series!

Disclaimer I haven't played the game, because the it looks awful. While I cant comment on game play that much besides the everything looking awful and so bare bones it makes a Sly game blush. I can comment on what I have scene of the story and its bad! Now I have not finished it yet so ill give a full comment then. I got to here in your review. 19:10 I will finish your review when I have finished watching the story. Until then this game is a half baked mess. And the most obvious example is Nix. Nix is obviously based on a axolotl, axolotl don't have hair, while Nix has fur on the bottom and feathers on the top. Giving Nix a uncanny valley look that made me unsettled. Nix being a bird, fish, dog is the most obvious example of them not being a able to make up there mind and trying to please everyone. He's also meant to pick pocket but is quite large and most of the time jumps on there butt and gives them hump for luck. Completely breaking any immersion.
I think Nix is cute! Lots of immersion breaking through the game, I'll concede that. I still had fun with it though.
One idea I had is the medieval section the plot twist is the villain is Bentley ancestor. In this time the Cooper wrong him, and he became a evil wizard. And was given tech to become a evil knight. For his boss fight phase one is the wizard, and phase 2 is the knight, and phase 3 is both. Personally i think all the villains should be from there time period. expect the main one.
Oh that would have been amazing!!! A chance to see one of Bentley and Murray's ancestors would have gone hard
@@nopnapnarp8047 personally I would have tried to avoid direct assentors. And because I appreciate your response here’s a list of assertors and plot points. If Murray had on e it would have been in Egypt because there’s a thing about king tut being killed by hippo. Or in the desert because there isn’t water so there would be a bit of irony. Theres also a famous Mexican drug lord that had a hippo. So in the wiled west you could have had Murray’s assentor be imprisoned. In the Middle East would have been funny if Murray’s assentor is the one that does the belly dancing. Btw this would be a woman. In Japan an assentor of the panda king would be his sumo bodyguard And there would be fox ninja trying to kill him. Being his carmelita. Also you have to throw a kappa in somewhere. It’s to perfect. Maybe the Kappa this cooper Yoda. Then for cave men times. Have this Cooper steal from the Sabertooths, and when the woolly mammoths attack, they almost wipe out all of the Sabertooths. There would be one female Sabertooth who hunts down this Cooper. Being the first Carmelita. As for general changes to him. I’d make this Cooper very savage and scary, rather than gibberish he talks in broken English, but rarely speaks in the third person. All of this hype on how dangerous he is, so his name being Bob Cooper lands better. This way the gang is actually surprised. As for the knight he should probably have a Charge to break down walls and move blocks like Sly. Also I’d have the thevus ratcoonis be the main thing to chose there time. The rule is that only when a sly is unable to write there entury it causes them to time travel. So as soon as the Sly gives up hope of being rescued then that’s when it activates. One other thing is that I would have had the team try to improve the time line. So in the medieval times Bentleys ancestors helped Slys defeat a dragon, and was almost completely excluded from the tale out side of the most bare minimum mention’s. This caused him to be bitter and stay poor while the Knight became rich. I’d make the medieval assentors flaw be that he’s proud and that he refuses to admit when he’s wrong. The ninja would be that maybe he commit issues. Maybe while he’s stoic he’s a womanizer, is stoic around his bros because he’s ashamed of refusal to commit to a single longer then a week. Wild West is too much wild cow boy. And the mid eastern one is so sarcastic it has trouble taking things seriously, and uses this to blow off people genuine problems. Like his 40 thieves felt under valued because he kept on blowing them off. He didn’t make these remarks to blow them off. He made those remarks because of commitment issues and did that hoping the problem would just fix itself. Hope you enjoyed that comment.
The frist three sly games where sharp and low detail. This is most notable on the sides of Syls face and the fact that fur ruffs have detail. This made the guards ai look less shit. There bare bones ai works with a bare bones art style.
I think if most of theses characters weren't playable but did join I think that would help a lot. I would save the guru for last, and story wise there traveling to the Guru and build the band along the way. And the end its reviled there quest to him was foreseen by the Guru. Panda King would be first, after Murry. Panda king and Penelope would be playable. But not Dimitri and the Guru.
Interesting take, I like it!
@@nopnapnarp8047 glad you like it. If you really want Dimitri to be playable, I’d have his game play be that he tails people, and can go invisible for a short while when you first press the crouch button. In this game play system. He all he can do crouch and jump. And has invisibility bar. And isn’t pretending like a real playable character, and is just a way to make infiltration deeper into the enemy’s base more believable. As far as Penelope you could have her be frost for second to Panda king. And her gameplay introduces RC/mech stuff. I’d also have the Black Barron be a RC creation to justify the twist better.
Just about sums up my own opinions as well. I've actually beaten every boss in the DLC with ZERO blessings, it's doable but not enjoyable, not the same way doing SL1 runs in Dark Souls was. Going into a boss underpowered means the fight lasts longer, forcing the player to become more intimately familiar with their mechanics. Doing this in previous titles has always given me a greater appreciation for those bosses, but doing so in Shadows of the Erdtree did the opposite. While Schadtree Blessings can certainly make a huge difference, the core problem of the DLC bosses isn't their health and damage output. It's the speed, the aggression, the mobility. the reach and range, the complexity of combo chains making it difficult to tell what is an actual opening vs what is a trap. All of it put together just feels so unrelentingly oppressive. Having a high blessing level can marginally cut down on that frustration by making the fights shorter, but does nothing to make them more fun, at least not for me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It's always nice to see a comment like this to know I wasn't alone in the struggle.
your problem is just treating it like it's DS3 when it's not, you have to position better, move around more and jump to make your own openings. Don't ever wait for the boss to just hand you one.
I found myself laughing out loud when I saw Jean Bison became part of the EPA I'm the credits, and my eye caught a sticker on his staff or something that says "vegan". To think of veganism being referenced in such an obscure way made me double check that I saw it correctly.
As a rhythm game buff, I am on the polar opposite end of the spectrum from you in terms of what my favorite boss fights are in this game. Mz Ruby's boss fight takes the top spot for me. I also appreciate the fact that rhythm mini games become a part of the franchise starting from this one.
I'm glad you enjoy the Mz Ruby boss fight! That makes perfect sense that you'd like them as a rhythm game buff. I'm struggling to think of any rhythm sections in Sly 2 though. I mean you have Bentley singing in Sly 3 as well as the dance sequences in Sly 4. Am I overlooking one for Sly 2?
@@nopnapnarp8047 There is a chapter wherein you dance with Neyla to impress Carmelita in a disguise to persuade her to dance with you during the heist. I believe it's the clockwerk wings heist. I recently played through the trilogy so that's why it's fresh in my mind :^)

I mean after playing it for like 10ish hours then dropping it I think that not only is outlaws the worst Ubisoft game I’ve played but also the worst triple a Star Wars game. The gameplay and particularly the stealth are just so broken that it did not work
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sly 3 has it's issues, but it still contains some of the best overall moments in the entire series. Looking back on these projects, I think that's what I'll take away most. Sly 2 had the best story, but Sly 3 had the best individual character moments.
It is actually a bad game, but your opinion is still valid and if you enjoy you enjoy. For me this is a obvious political woke mess about political statements more then doing a good game that actually works at least.
To be fair Starwars has always been political.
I'd like to hear more about the political statements you believe this game makes. Genuinely asking for further elaboration. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I hope they are enjoying their modern audience. They said they don’t want fans like me, so we all left. I grew up loving Star Wars in a massive way. Now I won’t touch anything in the franchise. We will purge DEI from gaming. Those who refuse to acknowledge this are as tone deaf as the studios who are collapsing while scratching their heads.
What exactly has ruined Star Wars for you? I think even outside of personal/political ideology, there has been a lot of apathy towards the franchise in the last 10 years. Another question. I understand that a lot of people are not accepting of DEI in gaming, what is it about this game in particular that you think crosses the line for you personally?
@@nopnapnarp8047 first, thank you for being reasonable. Well phrased questions. Respectfully, are you in development or journalism? I grew up loving Star Wars. I could not possibly count the number of times I’ve seen the original trilogy, but also even the follow up trilogy. I owned lots of the games from rogue squadron to battlefront and others. I owned memorabilia and light sabers and some of that jazz too. So I was a fan. It’s a bit hard to articulate in a concise way. It (understandably to me) devolves into wokeness infecting the space. Because truly, the more refined specific examples stem back to ideology changing the product. I know it frustrates defenders, but it is the root of what has changed these things we love. The removal of masculinity. The inability to punch down. To inability to be edgy or risky or offensive - which can serve as humour or add depth to plot or characters etc. I just detest quotas being worshipped in media. Hire women. Hire LGBT folks. Hire whoever. But god damn make it in merit. Some projects will have little to no representation. Some will have a lot. It doesn’t matter. Just make it equal opportunity and hire the best talent. Right now, we do not have the best talent on projects (be it Star Wars or gaming). We have under qualified activists. So stuff takes longer to produce, costs more money, is injected with ideology, and much of the work gets outsourced to other studios to help them limp over the finish line. And the quality sucks. I’m playing Wukong right now and it is breathtaking. Visually stunning. It’s punishing and powerful and the gameplay mechanics are extremely deep. Compare that with outlaws that had a female lead (of course - they’ve explicitly stated that they want all games to feature lead women), who looks terrible, with overall underwhelming graphics, abysmal AI mechanics, a laughable stealth system and a soft “safe space” vibe to being an outlaw. You can’t do any outlaw things. I could go on. But it’s a cancer that is ruining the stuff we love. And I’m done. We’re done. We will smash things in sales that are free of “the western gospel”. But won’t touch any this shit they are poisoning. They gas light us about it existing. They hate their toxic fan base (which is most of their original fan base). So they can keep losing billions while scratching their heads.
I'm not in development or journalism. I'm just a guy who plays video games as a hobby and takes it a bit further by making videos as a creative outlet and as a bit of extra income. I think conversations like this are very important because while we obviously have disagreements, we can't let that devolve into - OMG DIFFERENT OPINION, THEYRE AUTOMATICALLY EVIL/BAD, etc. We can always respectfully disagree. I think you've outlined some good points. Yes, hire the person that is most qualified for the job. Levels of work ethic, talent, effort and other things like that are unique to every individual; and if you want your product to succeed, you're better off bringing in the most qualified person. I agree there. That being said, I think sometimes games get an unfair shake over DEI related things before the game is even released. There are some incredible games out there that incorporate that ideology in sometimes minor and sometimes major ways. I'm reminded of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 last year which definitely was inclusive, and Baldur's Gate 3 which was perhaps the most left-leaning game I've ever played. Both titles performed well critically and commercially. But there are other games that include DEI elements that don't do well, and are even complete failures in some cases - Concord, Outlaws, Forspoken, etc. I guess I just wonder how much of the criticism is genuinely about the game versus people going in wanting to hate a game for DEI inclusions. In the case of Outlaws, I think this is a perfectly fine game. I can only speak to my experience, but I didn't find it to be broken; just simple in most of it's systems. Lacking depth, but not awful. I'd say the game is average before it being good or bad. It makes me reflect on how extreme opinions are rewarded on social media platforms and their algorithms. Another commenter alluded to this as well, but in a world where every game is either a disgrace or an amazing experience, there's very little room to say a game is good not great or average not awful even if that's probably the case. The DEI stuff doesn't dissuade me from buying a game, but at the end of the day, everyone should vote with their wallet and use articulate their reasons for why they decide to purchase something or not. Some people take it to far by harassing developers or other industry members, and I can't get behind that at all. Vote with your wallet and make your voice heard respectfully. Also, yes, Star Wars now-a-days generally sucks overall. I was a childhood fan too, and it's really fallen off. Disney has milked it way too much.
@@nopnapnarp8047 all of that is totally fair. I agree that the response from either side (particularly the anti DEI folks) right now is hot. I’m hot. And we have to be careful not to just point and shoot at everything, for sure. But we’re in a bad place. There’s a reason billions of dollars being lost on TV shows and games. A reason studios are closing left and right. A reason the gaming community is lit the fuck up. And so part of me feels that a strong response is needed to right the ship. We don’t care what people believe in. We have no gospel of our own we’re imposing on people. We’re not forcing compliance or tastes for others. But we’re being loud (vocally and monetarily) to let studios know that fans don’t want this. We want the space free of ANY ideology. ANY politics. Just make good stuff. Allow anything and everything to exist, for the market to sort out (which it is - in failures and successes). Let EVERYone be allowed to exist as who they are, including “toxic men” who represent a massive swath of gamers. We’re pissed cause they’ve ruined franchises. They have broken Star Wars, lord of the rings, the Witcher, assassins creed, Ghost of Tsushima, dragon Age, Marvel, saints row, far cry and on and on. We love these franchises - Theres a reason they got so big on the backs like fans like me. Because they cared about and listened to gamers. Just leave us alone. And we’ll go back to playing games and ignoring the outside noise.
Thank you for the conversation. I found a lot of this to be helpful in understanding another point of view.
to me it is just not my type of game. I would love to have a new star wars game but I don't enjoy stealth games, so I would rather have had a Mandalorian game where you just run and gun or jetpack and gun than a stealth game.
I think this team would make a great bounty hunter game, and if had been their focus from day one, this game may have been received better.
