I can't believe this is from the studio that brought us Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory! That was THE stealth game! Plus, whenever I hear Kay talk, she doesn't even sound like a Star Wars character. It's like they got someone who had no idea what SW even was and told them, "OK, you're in Star Wars!", and that was it.
It's incredible that after "Jade Empire", "KOTOR"s and "Mass Effect"s they are STILL completely clueless about successful ways to make a compelling rogue team story.
It half feels like they did it, in part, to lock him away so that he can't return to the screen again as we once knew him. First he had to be emasculated, soyboy-fied and shat on onscreen (sequels and the "Solo" movie), then he has to be outright replaced by a super shitty R63 OC version. As for why they did it? They aren't a for-profit company anymore, the megafunds are the profit center now and the entertainment companies their own are their PR/strategic communications arm.
KOTOR 1 and 2, can be found dirt cheap, 80+ hours of gameplay, great story, amazing characters, passionate storytelling. Outlaws $70 buggy mess, unlikable and forgettable characters, 40 hours of misery. KOTOR 1 and 2 can be buggy as well but easily fixable by mods and even with base bugs, they are much more worth it. Also when you say that this game is mediocre, you are giving it too much credit, it's one of the worst games ever made, at least I had fun with Gollum.
One thing that stuck with me me in this review is those instances of "I can't expect". -"I can't expect it to be like GTA but with Star Wars" -"I can't expect the faction system to be as in depth as in New Vegas" and then some... The thing is... Yes, it's a $100+ game, you SHOULD be expecting this level of gameplay. That game alone costs almost as much as what I paid for my PS3 back in the days ! It should come with a mechanic that makes coffee in real life for you at that price tag ! The fact that we're treating it like it's merely another mediocre AAA title, without being more outraged at how it's practically triple the price is baffling to me ! This thing is barely even worth the traditional $60 !
From my point of view it's rather funny how long it took for you to see that. Better late than never i guess, have fun experiencing good & excellent games that you've missed while playing slop. :D

well, unfortunately i dont think its the fact that nobody there has creativity; its that the higher ups dont let anyone have any creativity. Which is the saddest fate for sure.
Ubisoft is a prime example of what happens, when entertainment becomes overly politicized and corporatized. Any talent, passion, creative freedom goes out the window and everything becomes paint by numbers and any quality control becomes completely devoid of logic in favor of minimum effort required for release to not get sued.
They were like this back in the good old PS2 days, remember Warrior Within? Emo trend at it's peak, here it comes heavy metal Prince, blood, unhappiness, piss filter, etc.. I love Warrior Within because I liked heavy metal, but the criticism at the time was perfectly valid, to keep pumping sequels Ubisoft throws away any ounce of creativity and personality in favor of checking boxes, following current trends and whatnot. The fact Warrior Within turn out to be a really good game, that was pretty much a miracle. The PoP trilogy, FOUR Splinter Cell games in a single generation, they were all great somehow. But like I said, the mentality of releasing sequel after sequel, checking boxes, always a thing with Ubisoft. Assassins Creed was the beginning of their downfall, here it comes Far Cry 3 and the rest is history, Ubisoft became a factory of mediocrity

Unnecessarily harsh to say no one at Ubisoft has any creativity man. Some of the people working there have portfolios which express more imagination in a single page than we will in decades. Just because they are led by some terrible direction it doesn't mean they lack creativity. Some really interesting points about the game though, i havent played it but from the looks of it what you said about it having no idea what it wants to be seems spot on. the fact that they think a 90 pound girl is able to punch a man, let alone an alien... and knock them out in a single hit.. lets you know all you need too about their views on reality.
Now I know what you are saying, but talking about reality in video games is so nuanced that it really isn't a great point as you might think. Most games where stealth is involved is so far from reality that npcs don't even have peripheral view, so even if I agree it is unrealistic, it's also something that can be ignored. But let's be real, that's not really where you were going with that comment.
@@TheKillerJok. He's talking about people that hamfist their political views in a detrimental way in the games that drags everything down. It is another woke product
@@Deadsea_1993 That’s a better argument than the original poster had. I don’t get what anyone’s views on reality has to do with Star Wars, since it’s all fantasy. Jedi mind tricks are just as realistic as a 90 pound woman punching aliens in the face. Also, Tomb Raider exists and people don’t complain that was woke because a young woman did unrealistic things. So in that regard the example given isn’t great, since not all games need to be realistic. I do get tired of the messaging in games and movies lately (especially from Disney, but that has been going on for decades). Especially since the messaging is pretty US centric mostly.
@@Wizz15 you tried champ, but you understood the point and got your tampon in a twist. “Realism” is key even in fantasy when it comes to watching / playing something and it not even being remotely possible in life… but yeah let’s compared mind tricks to physical contact. @@jsullivan649 Nah, you fail to grasp the difference between authentic and realistic. It’s the same in video games: everybody asks for more realism, but nobody actually wants reality in their games. They just want them to feel authentic (believable), but not realistic. So again: when Tomb Raider came out, nobody said it was woke because a woman did unrealistic things. That’s not the reason things are called woke. There wasn’t any hamfisted activist messaging in that game, unlike a lot of games of today. Maybe it’s you who should look up some definitions of words, “lol”. Anyway its clear you have issues with women and are using this as an opportunity to let it out.

Disney paid $4B for Han Solo. Then we get a game featuring Ma'am Solo. Dumb! Just dumb!

KOTOR 1 and 2 can be buggy as well but easily fixable by mods and even with base bugs, they are much more worth it.

-"I can't expect the faction system to be as in depth as in New Vegas"
and then some...
It's dumb people looking for dumbed-down gameplay with a low IQ story to match their own.
You're right. Price tags set expectations and games in the triple digit price range better be worth the money.

Ubisoft is a prime example of what happens, when entertainment becomes overly politicized and corporatized. Any talent, passion, creative freedom goes out the window and everything becomes paint by numbers and any quality control becomes completely devoid of logic in favor of minimum effort required for release to not get sued.
oy vey capitalism

Best review I have seen. Your conclusion is absolutely spot on. Ubisoft created games completely based around stealth mechanics. Getting it so wrong in a new title, is unacceptable. This really is just another pretty looking Star Wars snowglobe to shake a bit and look at (but not shake violently as the game won't let you, as you pointed out).
the fact that they think a 90 pound girl is able to punch a man, let alone an alien... and knock them out in a single hit.. lets you know all you need too about their views on reality.
