The Lexus GS-F has more “M” in it than BMW’s own M cars. High revving NA V8, no fake exhaust sounds etc. It’s a throwback to what BMW M cars were 10-15 years ago. Who cares if it doesn’t do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds.

      KB L
      From Lexus press material:
The sound blasting from the RC F’s quad stacked tailpipes is sure to turn heads and raise pulse rates. Yet, Lexus also had to design the cabin to be quiet enough to enable enjoyment of the standard premium sound system or sonically stunning Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound system.
How could RC F drivers enjoy both? The answer is Active Sound Control (ASC), which lets the driver control enhanced exhaust, intake and mechanical sounds within the cabin. Specifically, Lexus sought to approximate the aural experience provided by the Lexus LFA, which issued some of the most stirring mechanical intake and exhaust notes of any supercar. Although LFA V10 engine revs to 9,000 rpm and RC F’s V8 to 7,100 rpm, the engineers have come close.
An electronic control unit mounted beneath the instrument panel takes input from engine sounds, including varying engine speed, vehicle speed and throttle position and generates augmented sound through an actuator. It is entirely separate from audio system, so there’s no reduction in music fidelity.
Most importantly is the driver controls ASC. It’s activated only in SPORT S+ mode, not Eco, Normal and SPORT S modes. And when it’s on, ASC blends with the natural intake and exhaust sounds to about a 50:50 ratio.
At engine speeds up to 3,000 rpm, ASC issues a steady tone of low and deep sounds.
As revs rise, the tone transforms into a higher-pitched note that blends with the engine’s mechanical sounds, culminating in a free-soaring sound beyond 6,000 rpm.

I care dummy. All show, no go, is not what I'm looking for. And literally every iteration of bmw blows the doors off the previous generation on the track... where it matters... where acceleration, breaking, and steering are put to the test. This junk wagon wouldn't stand a chance against the performance of an M3, and the upcoming M3 will be awd and 510 hp, so bye bye lexus.

I'm a proud and very happy owner of the GS350 F-Sport variant of this same car and if rumors are true Lexus is killing the GS line altogether then the GS-F is my next natural upgrade. Lots of folks really under estimate the fit and finish, handling, overall driving experience and fun.
These cars are what old school BMW used to be like. Think e39, e30, e46 chassis with same driving dynamics, handling, real steering feel, road presence and overall driving experience is amazing on these cars.
Folks looking for not only a luxury sports sedan but one that won't break down, I'd highly recommend to look for these used. Sure they don't have the latest and greatest bells and whistles like the German counterparts but you won't miss them and won't become an endless money pit.

    This is a drivers car.
Made to feed your sense and make you feel in control of the driving experience and one with the car. This is the complete opposite of the Germans with their computer controlled hold on and let power take care of everything for you performance car. This Lexus GSF formula is very rare to see in today’s atmosphere or performance cars. These cars will be sort after. It’s shocking to see Lexus marking drivers cars today instead of the Germans which have become obsessed with the numbers race. This is a very special car indeed this GSF. Jeremy Clarkson from top gear pick this car as the drivers car over the BMW M5 in a comparison test between the two.
Sad that Lexus will jump ship on this type of thing with the new generation of F models that will follow suit with the times and go turbo for more power I just don’t hope they lose their soul. Lexus continues to make the best Japanese luxury performance cars.

I want to buy a 2012+ isf because of the revised suspension tweaks and added Bluetooth and LSD differential compared to the previous years isf's, and also becasue it is super light compared to it's F siblings which makes it a lot more of an underrated car all around. Seen them be neck to neck with rcf and gsf all the time even tho it has less power but again, it's the weight difference that truly helps. Never drove any of the F cars but some have said that the ISF feels more aggressive and peppy than the rcf anf gsf ( i think the transmission is more refined in the newer F cars). I've heard the rumors and they have been testinf a 4.4L twin turbo V8 and might be for the LCF but idk of it'll come for the rumored returning ISF because some say it's getting a twin turbo v6 which will be the worst thing that can happen! I just hope they keep a V8 NA or not and have tons of aftermarket potential and show all the other car brands that toyota doesnt play around when they decide to make a true sports car/hot rod/ etc. Fingers crossed that they hit all the right buttons like before.

great video Paul, this is a car that leaves others behind in ways you explained that its competitors use electronic nannies instead of the actual mechanical diff that is adjustable for the driver and i think this car would do just fine in winter with the proper tires as you and Roman and the rest of the TFL CLAN always bring to the videos along with the road service conditions, I do agree with the first commenter here Donald Powers that the time is out a bit i got here at home with a stopwatch in the high 1:06's on both runs, just 2 guys opinions, great video and although it does not speak german, i would rather have this for the reason the check engine light doesn't come on every time you drive past a BMW dealership, they are dead reliable and built to last , BMW use to be built this way and are no longer ,Lexus still is and fit and finish is much better than most germans outside of a Mercedes maybe, thanks again

    Some points to consider:
Cars like these are not something that you need rather something you want. And the wants cost money so I wouldn’t be complaining about the price.
A Toyota engineer once said POWER it’s endless, I’m pretty sure Toyota if they want to they could make a car that does 0-60 mph in two seconds and then what?
I don’t think speed is as important as it is handling, fun, simplicity and how engaging the car is to the driver. But some reason every body seem to think they are professional race drivers out there...

The GS was derived from the Japanese market Aristo, which interestingly enough was offered with the same conservatively rated 275hp Twin Turbo in-line 6 as the Supra back in the 90’s. I’ve always felt like it was never appreciated as the great car it is, because Toyota never gave it the power it deserved as a Lexus. Now they are. At around 4200lbs it’s not light, but very decent for a good sized sedan.

GSF is great for performance/practicality balance, but as it shows the RCF carbon fiber/TVD had a super impressive lap time on this track. Quite a lot faster with the same driver and track. It is up there with some of the fastest cars in the segment. Almost 2.5 seconds per lap faster with the same driver, same track and same type of conditions. RCF is much shorter, smaller, about 100 lbs lighter and has better aerodynamics so the sacrifice in practicality pays dividends on the track.

Two seconds slower than the Jeep and the same lap time as a Miata, haha! It's a great car, but of course it can't compete with the performance of the German sledgehammers like the E63 or M5. I love how it's constantly beeping at the driver, as if to say "what the f*ck are you doing bro?! I just pretend to be a track car!" For the right price the car is a win, as long as you don't expect it to mop the floor with everything else on the road, because it can't. You can brag about the fact that it DOESN'T pipe in artificial engine noise through the speakers 😁

Every corner has a serious layer of dirt on it , poor track maintenance. Any lap time on this test is null and void. This car has been track reviewed many times so we all know it’s slower ( mostly due to weight) than a BMW M but not by much and the GS F is a completely reliable daily commuter where the M’s are track toys.

torque vectoring has become the darling of tryhard performance cars. it is the same with awd. most cars claiming to have awd, rely on haldex style systems. in fact audi is one of the worst offenders. they proudly but the quattro badge on anything they make, but the rs3 for example shares its set up with all cuvs. fwd with a hang on haldex system.

    • @MikeKayK
      @MikeKayK 4 роки тому

The RS3 is based on the fwd A3 platform. If you skimp and buy the cheapest, you get the least effective system. Most transverse fwd-based platforms use a haldex system, while most longitudinal rwd-based systems use a torsen differential.
