So glad you finally got around to doing a review on the GS-F. Watched your live podcast yesterday with Doug, I agree it’s a S6, E43, CTS V Sport competitor.

Toyota4Life I’m not knocking the GS, in fact I’m prepping to supercharge my AWG GS F Sport next summer. The GS-F is great value for the performance it provides. My statement was based on the conversation Matt had with Doug on the yesterdays podcast about where the GS-F fits amongst high performance sedans. Doug felt it was too weak and too expensive on power to truly compete with the E63-S, M5 and RS6. Matt said he felt it was great value for the money and it doesn’t need anymore hp. The GS-F is $85k and those sedans I mentioned are also near that $80-95k price, they may not be the full performance from their respective brands, but they match it on price, size and performance S6 has 450hp E53 has 430hp GS-F has 467. None of them offer carbon ceramics.
Quaid McIver dude I am with you on this. From the get go I always saw the GSF as an S6 type competitor (those cars end up in the 80k range after options)
The Law Family I see your point except most owners of an M5/E63/CTS-V don’t take their cars to a track. Also the GSF is in a bigger class of car than the M3
I never even considered this car as anything but a straight line car until just before the 12 hours of Sebring this year. The Sebring driving academy was doing demo laps in a few different cars and the GSF was hanging, being driven hard lap after lap, with a new M3, while sounding amazing. Lexus, you have my attention.
Better get one soon, this car will be highly sought after in a few years. Not to mention that Lexus is also not going to make them anymore. I believe 2019 is the last year.
@@davissilvestrs1996 Still seems to think BMW has some magic pixie dust thrown onto their chassis's. Torsional rigidity is a thing honey. The original LS400 is still more rigid than almost all that BMW offers even today. Never been to a track but talk a big game as usual. Time for a reality check.
@@d1sturb3d119 Is the first gen LS more rigid than the LFA supercar? Because I couldn't find the torsional stiffness for the LS but I did find that the LFA has 39,130 nm/deg while the old 2012 BMW 6 series coupe has 43,000 nm/deg and F80 M3 has 40.000 nm/deg lmao. Stop deluding yourself a 4000lb slushbox Lexus will NEVER EVER be a better track car than 3500lb dual clutch/manual BMWs.
The reason why I like these one takes is they aren't just car reviews they are also drives. Reviews quickly get boring and talking about a car can't fully express how it feels to drive while these one takes SHOW how the cars drive. For example I'm not going to watch any review of this car if it doesn't include onboard scenes and from most reviews you only get to know what the host thinks about a car and how it drives in his opinion. In a one take you just see more of the cars. I can't watch doug demorons videos because he never even drives the cars and if he does then he will only show us his face while driving. A big part of the audience probably shares my opinion. Just wanted to make it clear because some people still don't understand why I appreciate these videos even though they are a "low budget" production and can't even get myself to watch some of the higher production "quality" (cost) videos like carfection, petrolitious etc. Doug and a lot of the other channels will always be included in my youtube blocker list.
These days most of the "automotive" youtubers focus the videos on themselves or irrelevant things turning automotive journalism into a personality cult, most car channels don't even include onboard scenes and don't put any importance on actual driving, and motorsports is getting less attention because there are a lot of cockroaches who use cars to get exposure for their vlogs/products and they steal the spotlight from motorsports and driving videos. that's why TST became my favorite channel, because I simply get to see the cars driving and the videos come with little or no bullshit attached. the fact that doug is one of the most successful in the industry right now and he got there by simply using clickbaits and producing lots of low quality videos shows the horrible state of automotive journalism.
Well said. Your comments about “doug de moron” are spot on. The guy adds NO value. Personally, i think you’re a but harsh on the other two but i get your point.
Ever since I bought mine, I’ve gotten so much hate. Why didn’t you buy an M3?!!!? Oh you couldn’t afford that’s why you settled for a Lexus. Lmao, makes me laugh every time because it’s useless explaining to them why it’s such a special care. All those guys ever care about is HP and TQ.
I got one about 7 months ago and I still love it more each day. It took me about 3 months to get really good with it, but that's on me, not the car, I gradually ran faster and faster, corners are a dream, and with all this power, the computers in it will not let me lose it and that make driving it such a relaxing fun time. To be able to hall ass and no worries about spinning out, that's wonderful. The quality of every part on the car is were that money goes, I couldn't be happier with the way the built it, except of course the interface with the maps but I got over that real fast, the screen on it is huge and looks great, built in instead of slapped on the dash, I hate that in so many cars now, this one looks designed right. I also love that it is not a cookie cutter design, most people that aren't car guy, don't know what it is at first and I like not having something that everyone else has. It didn't sell in big numbers is just fine with me. I almost bought an SUV, but I already have two vans, so I skipped that idea and went with a really sweat machine. I think this is the ultimate driving machine, the BMW's just break down too much with little things all the time, I hate that.
Normally I'm not a fan of Lexus cars, but I really like this GSF, looks good, the engine sounds amazing, and it seems like they designed it for driving enthusiasts rather than on-paper spec chasers.
Got to drive this car before. Everything Matt is saying is true. Headunit infotainment system is trash, but everything else is progressive and slick. Anything you want this car to do it just does without any issue. Wanna drift ? ✅ Wanna hit the canyons ? ✅ Wanna drag race ? ✅ Want a grand tourer ? ✅ This car is truly a gem, and if it wasn't so expensive like it is, I would've bought one the same day I drove it. Super underrated car. Future Classic.
It's a great car at 55k to 63k. At 83k there was no way I could be okay with that. Especially when the difference between the price I think it should be is a whole brand new GTI more expensive, which I owned at the time.
It takes alot of engineering, design, material testing and manufacturing to make this car before making it even reliable. So it really isn't that expensive if you take everything into account.
AWESOME performance sedan ‼️ Best Japanese sedan on sale right now hands down. Jeremy Clarkson said this car drives better then the M5 and AMG in his review of the GSF. This is a true drivers car even tho it doesn't have a manual. That v8 engine is a masterpiece and it's highly crafted. Lexus is making the best cars out of japan right now. Would love to put a supercharger on this and a aftermarket exhaust. Also Matt you were wrong when you said these are the seats from the LC500. The only cars that have these seats are the RCF and GSF. Those are only F performance seats non F cars do not get them.
Matt you finally got a product that caught my attention. I'll have to check it out, always have to wear gloves when driving so I don't ruin the leather on my steering wheel
Sitting in my GS300, watching this on my lunch break, and I’m thinking, “yeah that’s cool and all, but 2JZ is life!” Right? WRONG. This V8 sounds SOOOO GOOD. This car is absolutely gorgeous. In white, it kills!
I own a GSF 2018 and like how you put the GSF on Sports mode & sport plus, it change the Engine's tone and the sound of the car. its like she's asking you to drive her more faster and she sounds Hungry when you push that Gas
I have a 2008 GS 460, with 120k miles on it and I love it. The car is reliable and not as expensive to take care as most people think with any Lexus vehicle especially with a V8 engine. I'm loving the new generation GS lineups so I can only imagine how fun the GSF is but also it's going to be reliable too.
Just an FYI. the RCF and GSF are not the same seats as the LC 500. The LC came later and went through 2 years and 50 prototypes of R&D. The GSF/RCF seat leather patterns are stitched first then filled with a hardening liquid foam to prevent any inconsistencies in bolster feel. The LC seat also has a movable headrest, the GSF/RCF headrest is built into the seat
Spot on, everything Matt says I agree. I have owned this car over 1 year. From daily to race track and love this car. Also it is truly compared to a m3 or m5. It's a race car with a race engine. It even have pumps inside the engine which only race engines have them. The HP does not determine if its fast. The balancing and handling does. It is a true competitor to the M series. Not a S6 or similar car.
@John Doyle on comfort mode it is very civilized and smooth. Similar to the regular GS 350. On sport + mode is a different story. And the GSF around a second slower than the new M4s. Its not much slower
@Smoking Tire Just recently bought a 2018 GSF in Orange County love the N/A V8 powertrain should be a future JDM collectors car. Excellent balance, handling and practicality for daily driving and performance GT racing. I will be adding some Tom’s racing bolt-ons let me know if you want to shoot a video on it sometime.
The dampers are adaptive. AVS modules can be spotted on top of shock towers at 2:30. As far as I know all GSF's started to come equipped with adaptive dampers since the 2017 model year.
I saw Matt's review of the ISF when it first came out. Last year I pulled the trigger on a white lowmiled 08 example that have been with the same owner since 13. I adore it, coming up on its 90000km service this year, its the big service with sparkplugs and so on. 1100$ at a Lexus dealer! The same service for a M4 is 2500$
I'm assuming that you are driving a 2018 GS-F based on the date you uploaded this video. Since the 2022 IS 500 is coming out, you'll find more people noticing your review. This is a great review and watching you drive and the sound of the engine. :o)
Thank you Matt!! Just got a 2016 with 25k miles, this car is phenomenal!! Also for the infotainment problem all you need is to get Beat Sonic Apple car play module and the problem is solved. Love it !!!
Everyone likes to state that the car is behind the average CTSV or AMG, but has anyone even tried to live with those cars daily? I'm genuinely curious cause they don't hook up in most normal driving conditions, they're a handful if the road is wet in any way and from what I've seen the people who own them never daily drive them. I daily my ISF, and there are folks where I work who daily their F cars no matter what weather we have (utah). CTSV's AMG's and the M cars on the other hand are kept away in their garages from what I've seen. Hell my ISF is a handful the second the roads get wet and I'm still at stock HP. So 600hp in the hands of an average driver although momentarily thrilling isn't something you're even close to extracting on the street. I get the comparison in terms of spec sheets but for daily use, none of those cars are really being used daily sadly. Also if you want more power RR racing gets these motors upto 650hp. Their latest tune got the ISF to 725. From what I've seen folks make huge hp and then put those beasts to sleep while they putter along in other daily's. Why not buy something sane, that's middle ground and doesn't bite your arm off in bad conditions instead? and hell decent reliability isn't cheap folks. That has to be engineered which costs time and money. Hence the comparable price to their higher powered German counterparts.
@@normt5463 The CTSV doesnt have awd. The AMG's have their garbage 4 matic which shouldnt even be considered AWD, M cars are RWD only and Audi does provide AWD but is the only car with decent AWD with a performance package.
What you're saying is maybe true for the M5's or E63 AMG's from about 10-15 years ago. The new ones make absolutely perfect daily drivers, they can be supremely comfortable if you want them to, they have stuff like adaptive cruise control, massaging seats and whatnot and they both have AWD nowadays, should you ever find yourself in wet/snowy conditions. As a matter of fact im 100% sure they'll make much, much better dailys than this. The GSF seems to be more of a purists version of a high end sports sedan with that beautiful 5.0 V8. Also it's quite a lot cheaper, so I'm not sure if you really can/should compare them. The M5/E63 definitely are the better/more complete cars (just watch Matt's One Take on the E63), whereas I see the GSF as the cheaper (but still awesome!) purists version.
@@davissilvestrs1996 lol extrememly durable if the owner has durable pockets. I always wonder why bmw owners like to get defensive about reliability. Why dont owners stop making excuses and demand better engineered products? Bmw comes no where near reliability compared to lexus. They could if then wanted to but that's not who they sell to. They engineer cars to fail.
You legitimately covered every single reason why I bought a CPO 2016 GSF a few months ago; this video will be my response to the bombardment of "why not an M or an AMG they're better" nonsense. Shout-out to the 2016s being the only year with standard suspension. Coming out of an E36 m3 track car that I don't miss one bit with this thing around
If i were on the lookout for a big GT car, i'd take the Lexus LC over the MercAston any day. ..and after watching this it seems that to me, the Lexus GSF is FAR more interesting than the BMW M5. I know people say the M2 is great, but that one doesn't speak to me either. ..if only Lexus could come up with less ugly grills..
lexus has always had some amazing sounding engines, ever since the 2JZ days, its suprising though that to this day they *still* have amazing sounding engines
When one buys a Lexus, they want a reliable luxury car that is smooth unlike the race like stocky German cars. Still, this is a performance car like no other. I hope its reliable that keeps with that Lexus reputation.
carpe is probably the only thing that i would actually buy, considering my lack of confidence drop after my crash making me nervous while driving in the heavy rain.
Umair Khan I’m debating that...I might go with the GS f cause they both have the same engine and u get more room so in a way it’s a win win NA V8 four door beast
You have really sold me on this car. When i first heard about it, the idea of "only" 460 hp seems like it got left in a performance era of the past with today's turbo v8s. But i've owned a e39 m5, and a e92 m3, and both of those cars had the sweetest engines even though they weren't all that fast. I loved both of those cars and kind of regret selling them both. The more i learn about the GSF, the more it seems like it picks up the torch where those left off. Mind you with an auto trans.. but still. Very Cool, very different. Great review

Absolutely fantastic car. NA V8, beautiful interior, awesome handling and Lexus reliability. If I were looking to buy into this segment I wouldnt hesitate a second.
I have a 2017 Chevrolet SS and this GSF is very much a similar car. Both have plenty of room, GSF interior is likely higher quality, but the 6.2 LS3 V8 in the SS has a wonderful sound throughout the rev range. Of, course, I have the 6-speed manual which is so much more entertaining. All in all, the SS was such a bargain, especially when GM heavily discounted it (making it $40,000). Too bad 2017 was the last year as it does not look like GM plans a replacement.
You have the same opinion as chris harris, it's meant for the street, the suspension, stability, and feedback is great. Comparing it to a bmw m5 with 600 hp and a uber stiff suspension, it just spins and has a weird twitch when counter steering.
When this first came out, I was upset Lexus didn’t inject more power in to the engine and also upset that a BMW 550i is a little faster than it. Now, even 2 year old BMW N63 engines are starting to show problems. Lexus did good with the NA engine. This will give at least 20 years of enjoyment from the V8 and this chassis, well worth the price. The turbo V8s on the German mobiles are fun for 3-4 years. After that, you have to worry about putting load on the engine. I cannot wait to find a good 4 year old example of a GSF at a good price.

Atleast Lexus brakes wont be cooked after a Track day unlike the M3s
GSF hanging with a M3? Either the M3 had an awful driver or this is plain BS.
And that is the exact spec I would want this in. White with a red interior.
Nail. On. Head.
I get 13-14 in the city because I’m always in sport + and banging through gears.
Anyone else been waiting for Matt to do a review on the Lexus GS-F?! Man such an underrated car, even the GS350 F sport is a great car
Agree 100%, very over priced new, used they are a bargain.
Those are only F performance seats non F cars do not get them.
oh yeah you're right - they are slightly different seats. good catch!
TheSmokingTire yes sir. These seats are much larger and have a different design and more hugging. Great review btw.
Toyota4Life Funny how you have to qualify Japanese sedan as most everyone else blows them away!

... So true... BTW, that guy is delusional...... sadly
But in the end Jeremy Clarkson said ''if you want better you get the M5'' lmao.
I bought gs f after watching your review. Great review and great car!
GS F is the ONLY LUXURY Sedan with Naturally V8 and Automatically REAR sun Curtain + manually rear Side door sun curtain
The GS is pure magic. Super reliable. Who cares about the infotainment system. Legend. This will be a classic one day.
I own a GSF 2018 and like how you put the GSF on Sports mode & sport plus, it change the Engine's tone
and the sound of the car. its like she's asking you to drive her more faster and she sounds Hungry when you push that Gas
You still rolling around in the gs460? I just picked up a 2014 gs350 and it's fantastic
I wonder how long its going to take for someone put a supercharger on it and make 600hp.
Already done, check RR racing . 638whp stage 2 !
Everything you can do to the RC you can do to this so i dont doubt it
725hp from the ISF motor.
already been done!
a better question is when will Lexus's F division do the same for the newly beloved LC500 .....
2:48 "Put her in sporch plus..." HAHAHA anyone else notice this.
That's how he says sports plus sometimes. I don't understand what I should be noticing ?
Mike Labonte Do you know why he call it that though? What is it suppose to be a portmanteau of? Sport + Chassis?
Just an FYI. the RCF and GSF are not the same seats as the LC 500. The LC came later and went through 2 years and 50 prototypes of R&D. The GSF/RCF seat leather patterns are stitched first then filled with a hardening liquid foam to prevent any inconsistencies in bolster feel. The LC seat also has a movable headrest, the GSF/RCF headrest is built into the seat
world's best reliability reputation & NA V8 there 2 reasons alone made me get the RCF
It's so slow on track though (where handling plays its role) it can maybe be compared with BMW M cars from a decade ago, not the M cars from 2018.
@John Doyle on comfort mode it is very civilized and smooth. Similar to the regular GS 350. On sport + mode is a different story.
And the GSF around a second slower than the new M4s. Its not much slower

lexus always nailed it with the gs series. namely the older gen like around ~2000 with the 2jz-ge. those cars run forever

Yes you are correct, from 2017 on adaptive damped shocks. PITA to change when they fail at the seals.
nothing beats a mid size sedan lexus juiced up. love the GS F aesthetics
Thanks Matt I have been waiting for this One Take!! Absolutely love the GS-F!! I wish more people would buy them!!!
Thank you Matt!! Just got a 2016 with 25k miles, this car is phenomenal!! Also for the infotainment problem all you need is to get Beat Sonic Apple car play module and the problem is solved. Love it !!!
Good luck!
Hence the comparable price to their higher powered German counterparts.
vidurc It would still be missing AWD with that power level.
People daily their M cars all the time. There was an E39 M5 sold with 400.000 miles original engine and gearbox. BMWs are extremely durable.
A modern and reliable E39 M5 is what we have here. Love it.

We live in insane times.. I used to love BMW back in the E39, E90 and the likes days. Now the newest BMW i really want is the 1M. I know people say the M2 is great, but that one doesn't speak to me either.
..if only Lexus could come up with less ugly grills..
I mean each year they seem to be getting better at making their weird grill fit with their design. Although, the LC500 is probably the best one yet
Someone could probably make some good money creating aftermarket front grills/headlights/bumpers for ugly lexus's to make them look more like the LFA

Its more of 550i msport version from Lexus, but e39 m5 is still a masterpiece, closest is 6 Speed Chevy SS.

Engine sounds fabulous
This is a OG car ! Groove Street Families!
@01:41 and the Genesis G80/G90 which also have V8 and rear wheel drive funny enough.
I really wish they would have put this V8 engine in a sporty crossover/mid -size SUV, similar to the Infiniti FX50 and Porsche Cayenne GTS.
this is going to be my next car
When this first came out, I was upset Lexus didn’t inject more power in to the engine and also upset that a BMW 550i is a little faster than it. Now, even 2 year old BMW N63 engines are starting to show problems. Lexus did good with the NA engine. This will give at least 20 years of enjoyment from the V8 and this chassis, well worth the price. The turbo V8s on the German mobiles are fun for 3-4 years. After that, you have to worry about putting load on the engine.
I cannot wait to find a good 4 year old example of a GSF at a good price.
I've got an rcf and I absolutely love it and I'm also not afraid of something breaking on it.

Another great episode, but I would like to clarify that the GS F you were driving had adjustible shocks. Only the first 2016MY does not get 'em. You can see, when you opened the hood there cables coming out of shock tops.
These sound fantastic with an aftermarket cat back. People see a Lexus badge and hear the noise it makes and are probably confused at first. Same goes for the LC500 even with that stock exhaust.
This is lovely underrated car which looks stunning in blue, black or white. It also will outlast shitty audi. It sounds amazing, it's safe and I really want one.
Looks like the Lexus engineer got his way, too bad humanity is garbage and would rather have a CUV or some mommy van bullshit instead.
Beat Sonic makes a great Apple Carplay kit for Lexus models. It integrates with the system and retains native controls.
Does the GS AWD have the same bulge in the drivers floor pan as the IS AWD?
Mighty car for a niche market. Shits on anything in its class (E43/53, 550, ctsv sport) in terms of dynamics and dual personality. Would love to one own one day.
