KenDBerryMD I’m a slender athletic 60 year old man who has never had a weight issue. I go to the gym 5 to 6 times a week and I have pseudo gout. My hips, knees and my right ankle are not good. I went on the keto diet to see if it would help with the pseudo gout and I went from 172 to 162 in a week. Is there any way that I can do a modified keto diet that will allow me to maintain my weight? Also, I was diagnosed with macular degeneration about 15 years ago and I think my nutrition has helped keep it from getting worse but this video today gives me more ideas that should really really help. Thanks for your help!
What you do if spinach gives you kidney stones?! Is there an alternative to spinach? I started eating raw spinach salad 3 times a week and developed a 9mm almost deadly kidney stone. It almost ruptured my kidney ... very serious. The ER doctor admitted in a controlled panic there was no surgeon available until 6am. My kidney and ureter were blown up like a balloon. Calcium stone was said to be from the spinach. I will say I've recall seeing people who juice raw carrots daily (hallelujah diet) say they improved their eyesight, including reducing their vision prescription. None mentioned macular degeneration - just aging eyesight. Raw carrot juice 3 times a day ... according to them.
Diagnosed this year with MD. A hole straight through and center vision so distortion and darkness. They scheduled my surgery for Aug 31st. I began Carnivore diet May 19. Just before surgery I asked for another scan just to see if it was healing. They were reluctant but they did. They canceled my surgery. It’s healing.
I started eating high protein/low carb to lose weight and to avoid diabetes, as it runs in my family. I did that in the 1990s. So it has been my woe for a long time. About 20 years ago I got rid of all oils except olive oil. I have since added butter, ghee and avocado oils for cooking in addition to evoo. 2 years ago I began intermittent fasting & a 72 hr fast every quarter to achieve autophagy and for weight control. Now youve told me about the benefits for avoidimg dementia and macular degeneration. Oh happy day. Thank you!. I am 69 and presently am on no medication. God has blessed me with good health so far. I hope my diet is helping.😊❤
Since going Keto vision stopped deteriorating and stabilized over the last couple of years. However, going Carnivore has been mind blowing-astigmatism drastically improved, vision improved from -7.75 to -4.0 left eye, -7.50 to -3.50 right eye. It is truly amazing! Initially, I thought my mind was playing tricks on me until the ophthalmologist verified by exam the improvement. I’m a 60 year old B/F 💃🏽
Hi Ken. I was diagnosed with AMD dry 8 years ago. I have had eye tests with 3 different Opticians and 2 years ago I went Keto. I had my eyes tested in july this tear and the optician said: " I dont know why you were diagnosed with AMD because there is no evidence of it. SO did I never have it? Were 3 separate opticians in different parts of the country all make mistakes? The 4th (current) optician showed me photos if the back if my eyes. Crystal clear. Even the cataract I was diagnosed with in one eye seems to have also disappeared. We always eat nuts and plenty of salad greens and peppers tomatoes both raw and fresh, Loads of brocilli. I also take Lamberts Eyewise and omega 3, and sustained release vitamin C but that hasn't changed for 8 years
I was diagnosed with macular degeneration at age 50.. I researched everything I could find.. and I cut out all vegetable oils and went on a low carb diet.. I have changed a lot of things since then... I am now almost 65 and my vision is better than it was 15 years ago, for sure!! The distortions in my vision got better immediately upon getting rid of veg. oil! I have been on a keto diet for a year now and I can say that you are spot on with your conclusions! I have it only in my left eye.. but I have such a slight distortion in the eye that I don’t even see it unless I’m looking for it!! There are times when I will go for weeks without even seeing floaters in my eyes! Thanks for the info about spinach, too!! Nutrition is our most powerful weapon in the fight for good health!
Dear Dr. Berry and Neisha, I am one of your prize students or apprentices or disciple perhaps!!!! After listening to your video on Macular Degeneration it made a huge difference in my life. I have been Keto since the book Wheat Belly came out, maybe 2015. I did lose dress sizes and got healthier…... Halleluia! I was one of the first to read your book. I had told others that I wanted to write a book of the all the lies we have been told by people in charge of our lives, government, doctors and lawyers, ect. But you wrote it first. And it so much better than I could with all the info you have and because you are a doctor. I had been going to an eye doc in a small town here in Tx for about 5 years. He diagnosed me with MD. Not surprising because my dad went blind with it. My mom had it also and her eyesight got worse and worse. She did have the shots done many times. My two brother and one sister have it also. I’m 71 years young. So, I listened MD Prevent it/ Improve it 2019 with fascination to your scientific studies about specific diet changes…. spinach in particular. I started probably sometime in the fall 2019 to eat at least 1 cup of spinach (spinach salad with meat….. yay, meat) maybe 4 to 5 times a week. We moved to another area north of San Antonio In late January. So went to a new eye doctor. I put on my registration and information that I have MD. So, after the tests and everything she said, “I’m not going to put MD on your chart because it is hardly there!!!! ….. YES!!!!! Thank you Doctor for all that you do for others, cant thank you enough!!!! I travel the world preaching and teaching about Jesus. My husband says about me that Nancy 1st preaches Jesus and then 2nd about Keto!!! It is hard to stay Keto with all the carbs the Africans eat…. Still they try to give me avocadoes, chicken, , greens and eggs etc. So bless you and your family, Thank you!!!! Nancy
Dr. Berry, you must remind people that Olive Oil & Avocado Oil "may be cut" with the cheap seed oils that you warn us against. In this instance, they are called "carrier oils". This is done to keep the cost of these 2 oils, cheap. So we need to contact the manufacturer to ask them what, if any, "carrier" oils they put into their Olive or Avocado oil bottles!!!
I stopped olive oil because the ones that were safe to use last year are not even rated as pure olive oil this year. trust me if it's anything the average person can afford then it's cut. Worldwide more money is made off of fake olive oil then the sale of cocaine.
A few days after starting keto I started getting blurry vision, I was getting worried until one day boom!... my vision improved tremendously, I could grab my cell phone and hold it closer to my face and the text was nice and sharp. Another benefit of keto, amazing.
I bet the burly vision right after going keto was your detox phase...the body had to adjust and get rid of everything and you can get all kinds of funny symptoms
So do I and they don't want to hear about it ! If they cured people they wouldn't have any patients they never talk diets even with diabetic patients they don't care only want $$$$
When I got Type 2 Diabetes, my eyes got really bad really fast. Per Dr Berry's video on reversing Type 2, I started Keto, rather than Insulin. In short while, my eyes improved dramatically. They are now both -.25, the next thing to window glass!
I was blown away that the research is so clear, that eating certain things SLASHES your risk of getting M.D. My grandmother has it and so does Neisha's grandfather; neither of their eye doctors has EVER mentioned the things I found when researching this video...
KenDBerryMD Unfortunately the Specialists dont have a clue even in their trained fields My gastroenterologist had no clue what leaky gut is, my Psychiatrist says Benzodiazepines and other Psyc Meds are completely safe, tell my brain that. They easily put you on meds but as far as risks and tapering off not a clue. I see a Hollistic MD as my primary. What foods we put in is the key. Avoid grains, sugar, processed everything, organic, and healthy fats..... what is helping me slowly recover. Thanks for your channel. Love the accent, my Dad was from the South, lost him in 2010. The best to you.
KenDBerryMD ... Dr. Berry I have Macular Degeneration. I was diagnosed 41 months ago. I have wet MD in right eye and dry MD left eye. No treatment for dry and getting injections for the wet. I want to share that I researched over these months/years and found that not only spinach is good, but also berries. The best is Huckleberry, however Blueberry is a close second. The darker blue the better. I have experimented on myself over this time and diffidently can tell the differences when I am taking the berries everyday and when I stop. I know that it is not my imagination as I am tested every 4 weeks and sure enough when berries are stopped swelling increases. Go back to berries and swelling decreases. I have done this experiment not fewer than 5 times to myself over this period of time. This is what I do to get my berries and spinach in my diet daily. I buy both fresh Blueberries and Huckleberries (huckleberries are wild in my area) and throw them in my blender. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Now they are ready to add to my Keto friendly green spinach juice or smoothie daily. Just wanted to share the berry information with you as it has made me a believer. Thank you so very much with all the information you share. .
anthony mason Hi Anthony yes you are right not common knowledge. You have dig to find out about the berries. Start your research with Bilberry used by pilots during WWII. That will lead to the American berry Huckleberry! Same thing as British Bilberry. I was amazed why doctors are not telling us about the berries along with the spinach. Super detox for the eyes. Will not cure AMD, but really helps maintain where you are at. You might want to look into Saffron also. I am just beginning saffron capsules. Happy research. P.S. I use fresh berries daily (1/2 cup Huckleberry and 1/2 cup Blueberry) and take a daily Blueberry capsule. If you can't afford the fresh Huckleberries take Blueberries. Blueberries very close to Huckleberries.
Has your father in law tried a Kindle? There is a text to voice application that can be used with these. You can also scale up the font for the visually impaired. And, many public libraries offer kindle books to their patrons through the internet. I have found the kindle to be a wonderful tool for reading. Of course, I keep my paperwhite dialed all the way down on the led backlighting because of the blue light concern (you can't turn it off entirely, unfortunately).
Prolonged fasting really made a difference in my eyes...after my first 4 day fast I noticed an improvement..I no longer need reading glasses for normal text.
That’s amazing. Did you do Just a water fast? I was just diagnosed with macular retinal or basically degeneration! I have been a health nut my entire life except as a child. He’s saying Spinach but honestly I gave up spinach about a year ago because of the oxalates very difficult to break down inside the kidney. A cup a day has like a 1000 mg oxalates . But now that I have Macular degeneration in my left eye I am paying attention to these oxalates because the one thing I have done differently in the last few weeks is add almond milk organic to my smoothies also I am going to look at my diet in the last 6 months to determine what could have caused this all of a sudden. I mean literally it came on over a period of 1 month! I do believe we can reverse anything in our bodies. I have an appointment today with a surgeon. Today is May2 2024. I don’t know how old this video is. But Spinach is top of the list for oxalates!! Sorry Dr. Barry! I’m going to do a fast for lemons and water! S😊😊e where that takes me. I will let you know!
Same thing happened for me on day five of a water fast. I noticed my vision was blurry watching TV through my regular glasses. Became concerned, but after removing them I discovered my vision had actually improved to the point that I could see just fine without them.
My mother lost her vision to macular degeneration at 50. She was used as a case study because she went blind so young from the disease. It was horrible for her. She lost her ability to drive, and do many things we take for granted. She's 80 now and has adjusted to it but misses her sight daily.
Another light 💡 moment “food related macular degeneration sounds spot on, because I had pre-eclampsia at 25yr and lost my eyesight due to bilateral MD and retinal detachments (multiple tears not completely detached). Old age not a factor but hypertension, glucose and proteinuria definitely were. Thanks again Dr B.
Thank you so much! I just had my annual diabetic deep eye exam. My dad had macular degeneration so I fear. Everything is fine. Told my dr about eating spinach, he got all excited and said that’s right! Our relationship changed! Im70
My older sister (age 77) has Age Related Macular Degeneration. That along with a family history of diabetes, Alzheimers and heart disease finally scared me into Keto. My blood sugar was 87 this morning, my BP is in the 115/75 range without any medication and weight is slowly but surely coming off. I have not been to the gym as regularly as I was, but am trying to get that back into the routine.
Insightful. Can't hurt to eat healthier and pur it to the test on ourselves. My grandma had macula degeneration. I didn't know that they could only see from the side. She did have a big ol magnifying glass. She lived to 93 and it was a pleasure to have her in our home the last 7 years. We learned many lessons of life. Grandparents are wonderful.
I'm a macular degeneration "victim" in both eyes (wet), am not diabetic. I have been getting injections for over 5 years now. I drive everywhere day or night--a little more difficult to drive at night. You did not mention taking lutein (40 mg.) a day with Lutigold w/zeaxanthin, also Bilberry for night driving. These supplements are a necessary for this condition. I will be taking these plus other supplements the rest of my life, also the injections, still praying for a miracle. By the way, my retina specialist injections does not hurt--don't feel anything.
My aging relatives ignore my voice and continue down the path of dietary destruction. The nature of addiction is incredibly strong and the people who deliver this evil are even stronger.
TX2200000 I had a very strained relationship with my parents whenever I tried to “help”. They’re taking handfuls of pills every day. The eat out daily, all high carb and sugary. For my own well being as well as having a good relationship with them and not regretting anything, I’ve stopped trying to change them. It’s extremely frustrating to watch the go downhill so fast. My mom just had breast cancer surgery and you’d think she’d have an epiphany. But instead she wanted even more comfort food. I just choose to use their lives as a cautionary tale. I’m far from perfect with my own health but whenever I find myself living similarly, I attempt to self correct. I’m I such a phase right now. Back on Keto as of today!
I had macular degeneration beginning - according to my ophthalmologist, but after cleaning up my diet, my next ophthalmologist didn’t want to believe I ever had it!
Dr. Berry. The reason why I choose to comment on this video is several years ago I had LASIK surgery in my right eye and PRK surgery on my left eye. I’ve been doing keto for 5 weeks today. About a week into going keto I started noticing greatly improved vision in my left eye. I starting to think I was imagining it. I see others are saying similar here. My story. I will be 50 years old this July and fortunately God blessed me with pretty good genetics, but even good genetics could not defeat the 49 years processed foods and bad eating. Although I have kept a pretty lean physique, I was starting to put on a few pounds around the middle, my joints have been aching for years, I was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2007, and I just felt old. After five weeks now, I am under my weight goal for as I weigh the same amount I weighed as a freshman in high school. And I’m working out again and feeling great. Trying to put some muscle weight back on now. Anyway, thank you for all the insightful videos DR B, my wife and I enjoy listening to your bright ideas. You are one of the three Drs that I follow on UA-cam regarding the keto diet. This community is blessed to have you.
My parents both died in the past two years. Mom had worse macular degeneration than Dad. Both from Eastern Europe originally. Dad did all the cooking once he retired and by then he’d been brainwashed into fearing saturated fat. Probably their diet contributed to their dementia and loss of eyesight. I’ve been a type 1 diabetic since 1970 and spent most of 30 years eating lots of starch and drinking skimmed milk. Thanks for 30 years of high blood sugar, American Diabetes Association!
Thank you! I had surgery for a macular hole 2 years ago, and was unhappy with the healing process. Six months ago, I changed a lot of my diet ( for other reasons) and now, finally, I am seeing some improvement. I did switch to daily spinach raw just because I thought it would be good for me, did not expect it to affect my eye. Thank you for the confirmation. I’m in my 70’s and in otherwise good health.
Most all nuts grow on trees. Brazil pecan pistachio filberts walnuts they are grown trees. Pili nuts are supposed to be about the best but I've never had one I just assumed they grow in a tree too. Peanuts grow in the dirt and they're not true nuts.
@@sulaimanniazi3736 Keto is eating only foods that do not raise your blood sugar. Check all the Keto and carnivore users on UA-cam for more info. Good luck.
I worked at an eye specialist for a little bit and seen a bunch of patients come in for injections. I was told (not by the doctor) that they didn’t know what causes it and there was no cure but only to slow it down. I’m amazed to see this video, but at the same time I can believe it because just being diabetic can cause issues with your eyes. So it only makes sense that what you eat has a lot to do with it. I love watching your videos doc, my husband loves that I’m informing myself about all that Keto can do for you. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
My mom is 89 and she has it. However, there is NO WAY she is going to even consider changing her diet. She is absolutely convinced that saturated fats are bad for you, and grains are good. She is convinced I am killing myself by eating keto/carnivore. You typically cannot undo decades and decades of brainwashing. Also, she despises virtually every single food that you mentioned in this video! I CAN teach my daughter and grandchildren new ideas though!
I’m addicted to learning from you!!! It goes against everything I’ve ever been taught and I believe in it with all my heart!!!! At the age of 46 I’ve been dx with Macular Degeneration with monthly injections also Papillary Carcinoma and Graves, with a TT 1/9/18. I’ve been trying to absorb as much of your teachings as possible and am following Ketogenic way of living for 2 weeks now. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing!!!!
Same! although i haven't had to have any injections, but i did have a detached retina out of blue (had NO symptoms...my eye doc just happened to see it during a routine eye exam...so crazy!) I had to have an emergency (full on) scleral buckle surgery to correct it. That was a couple years ago now. I'm only 43. 40 at the time and by far the youngest person in the office during f/u visits. I have been doing keto now for about a month / close to two also and doing everything i can to restore my health all around. I too love/am addicted to learning from Dr. B! Good luck with your peepers! :*
I have heard that three tablespoons of coconut oil a day along with 8ml cod liver oil cures wet macular degeneration.but also needs to have phosphatidylcholine otherwise it doesn't get into mitochondria and help cells at cellular level. and ye as you said dr.berry also one cupful of spinach a day juice it in a blender do wonders
the recipe above cures wet macular degeneration within months I read. hope it works for everybody with md. I myself coped 12 injections in my eye ball but since I used the recipe above for 5 wks already seeing improvement no more horrible needles in the eye thank god. please if someone have macular degeneration try the formula above . trust me I know it works.. keep on the good work dr. berry thank you.
My dad passed away a few years ago . I saw macular degeneration steal his life away over the last few years . The man I knew who was always there for everyone , compassionate , loving , and caring , turned into a person I barely recognized , barely talking and snapping at everyone . I wish I had known all of this back then , I may have had a chance to help him .
Dear Dr Berry, I've been away from UA-cam for awhile but have been mostly carnivore for about a year now thanks to you.. Except for a nice fruit bowl that i would munch tween meals, im almost completely carnivore. Began losing sight just a few weeks ago and may have to give up driving soon if I can't find a way to improve my vision and stop this vision loss quickly. Now I'm suddenly very confused by this video.. i had given up all vegetables, and nuts. I thought that i was following your advice when i gave up my fav snack of apples with almond butter, spinache and all other vegetable Now I'm so very confused and also suddenly seem to be going blind I notice that this video is a few years old, and i know that over the years you've changed some of your diet ideas.. so am even more confused and surprised now to see the 2024 tag on this video would be very grateful for yours and any of your listener's advice.. thank you all ❤
Thank you dr. Berry. For all your research and advice and sharing it with the world. My mother (92) has MC for several years now. As her daughter (55) I always wondered how to prevent this ever happening to me. Now I know the answer. Already on a keto diet and lost 40 pounds.
I love your website! I have a wrinkle I have a wrinkle in my retina and thought it was macular degeneration! Can’t tell the difference. Saw a dr lecture on Diet dr about macular degeneration. He recommended cutting out all seed oils which I did. I was pre diabetic. Went keto, cut out all seed oils and when I went for checkup last year he asked what I was doing and I told him I changed my diet. Being an artist, I was broken hearted at the diagnosis but having my eye improve was more important than eating all that junk! I go again in another month and think my eye is even better. No high BP, pre diabetes and very happy! God Bless you and your work!
That's encouraging to hear. I have it pretty bad in my right eye, can't read with it. I just started Keto two weeks ago. I will probably start the shots very soon. I'll also start eating spinach and more fish.
My dad has macular. He’s 103 years old and healthy in all other regards. To help your father in laws mental health if he likes reading, the ANIB. We have Canadian National Institute for the Blind, here in Canada that lend out DVD & CD’s books. I hope you have such a program because my dad has read thousands of books in this way. God bless this program because It has given him joy in his life. God bless your devotion to good health. God truly brought me to your channel.
Thank u... Im so glad I found u. Ive been doing keto for a 8 mnths and have lost 80 pounds with no exercise. My kidney function has improved 18 percent, my triglycerides r way down everything is better. I luv ur straight to it lets do this videos. Your AWESOME!!! ( goober peas nice tid bit) Thanks again for sharing ur thoughts!!!!!! just shared n fb
Thank you!! I’m 42 and have dry macular degeneration. I’ve been diagnosed for 10 years. I’ve been on keto for 3 months. I started to watch your videos for keto help and you did this one and I want to cry because theirs hope. I haven’t had vision lose yet since it’s the dry version. I’m so blessed to have found you in UA-cam. Thank you!! I’m telling my kids to through out their veggie oil!
I’m still on keto. I’ve lost 187lbs and the eyes are actually better. It’s not a cure but I was told because I changed my diet and started to exercise that it changed the course it was on. I still see 20/20 with a small glasses prescription.
Dr. Berry, Have, Wet AMD in my Right eye and Dry AMD in my Left. This was diagnosed in April 2014. Have had Shots in my Right eye, every couple of months. At the start,it was Monthly. Started a Keto Diet, the first of the year. Went to my Vision Doctor, Friday, Feb. 08 2018, stepped up to the 20 ft. line for Vision Testing, could not read any Letters on the chart with my Right Eye. Stepped up to the 15 ft.line and for the first time since discovering AMD, I was able to read a full line of print on the chart, understand, the letters were not completely clear but I could make them out. Agree that this diet needs to be researched in depth, regarding the effects it has on Macular Degeneration. Thank You form this video, am sharing it in Facebook
2 weeks ago I went to the ER for a sudden internal right eye bleed. I was diagnosed with a age related separation of the vitreous humor sac but the retina was strong. I saw the retinal specialist and to my surprise when I told him I was a strict carnivore he said, I love you even more to hear that! He found this condition developing in my left eye as well. He told me to keep eating carnivore since it was going to help stabize and possibly retard further development. So EAT Your meat.
I was just diagnosed with CME Going to retinal specialist next week. I eat clean for the most part but not a big fan of meats. Tuna bloats me bad. I will add more meat to my diet. Spinach is already in there just need it more often. I think I'm screwed when it comes to treatment options at this point. 😪
This is good news. My father had MD. It was sad to watch my parents go from vibrant, life-filled people in their 60's and 70's, to slowing succumbing to listlessness, low-energy, big bellies, etc., etc. as their physician put them on low-fat, high-carb, low "greens" diets. Plus the medications (over 10 each) . That was my physician, too, until i fired her. Every visit, the first thing was haul out the script pad.
If only we can have a conversation regarding this issue. My dad is 45 yrs old And he’s seeing specialist they haven’t given him a official diagnosis but they have mention this MD and before this happened if it wasn’t because his licensed expired we wouldn’t think anything of it Now I’m trying to do research and a list of his new diet and we will all do it with him
Great video. I would add that macular degeneration has several causes and it in two camps: wet and dry. I am only speaking of wet MD here. I have wet macular degeneration (MD) I get eye injections and it has saved me from losing my central vision. Truly marvelous. Wet MD is horrible and can cause rapid vision loss such as from 20/20 to 20/80 in three weeks. Horrible. The eye injections reversed it and now i am 20/20 again after three months of monthly injections. I know it does not help this well with some people so i am so grateful that it worked for me. I post this here in case someone who needs to know this may find it. The drug is Avastin I think. So sorry for anyone suffering with this terrible condition. There is hope though as in my case.
I was fine until VACCINATED! Been Keto for 10 years & NOT FAT NOR Diabetic. Had Covid 19 after 3 Vacs. Six months later mild Macular Degeneration diagnosed. Been Carnivore now for 5 months. No spinach, plenty of Astaxantine, Lutein etc.etc.etc i can see 75% I'm 78yrs old no cataract surgery yet! COMMENTS appreciated. I'm in Brazil, eating sardines.
Thank you Dr. Berry for helping me save my vision! I’ve been diagnosed some years ago with macular degeneration. My last eye appointment appears to not have worsened! I do have cataracts. Thanks so much for all your help. Blessings to you and Neisha and baby Berry!
My 23&Me report shows I have 1 marker for Macular Degeneration. It doesn’t mean I will get it, but I have a slightly increased chance of getting it. So watching this I’m so glad I’ve already been doing Keto for a year and I know I will continue to do so!
I had the 23andme DNA test in 2018. It’s now 2023 and I was diagnosed with dry MD last week. I had 1 gene marker so I opted for the extra eye scans every year since. I’m 60 years old. I learned from my father recently that my Great Grandmother was losing her eyesight. I’m very glad to catch it early. My MIL has wet MD and I take her for eye shots. I really hoped it wouldn’t happen to me.
Dr. Berry, I scout the. Internet. Many doctors have advised me. But your advice makes tons more sense. I thank you for all of your advice. Truly I do. And I am taking it. I have mac. I wannabe done with it.
Dr Berry I was diagnosed with macular degeneration about 5 years ago.. I have watched most of your videos been on keto for almost a year taking Preser Vision with Alreds 2 along with eye exercises three to four times a week about two years now.. use bacon drippings or butter in my coffee and green powder substances as a drink eat spinach most every day for about two years my eyes are very good I see well if I can stay off of this phone thank you the last eye exam I had two years ago by a different doctor made no reference to macular degeneration
Dr Berry,I have been doing keto/low carb for last 3 years. Just had eye test. Optician brought up scan showing changes related to MD. I told him I eat good diet. He said it was relevant to zeaxanthin and lutein deficit.I eat spinach eggs and meat. He thought I may have a malabsorption issue.I’ve recently been diagnosed with hiatus hernia with Cameron lesions. I had started on ferrous sulphate whilst waiting for endoscopy/colonoscopy. Consultant advised repeat ferritin and full blood count after 3 months. I went to doctor initially feeling faint and like I’d been winded, punched in the gut. Very timely video Dr Berry.
So glad I found your channel. Great info! My mom just passed a year ago and suffered with macular degeneration. Horrible stuff! So glad to find I'm doing some things right. Love spinach, selfish and nuts! Must keep an"eye" on sugar, that is my weakness. Thank you again, Dr.
My Mom has already lost the central vision in her left eye because of wet macular degeneration despite injections in her eyeball (ack!) She has dry macular in the right eye. Since I was a little kid, her favorite breakfasts were usually cookies, cupcakes, etc. Now, at 87, here favorite breakfast is strawberry shortcake. She never had a weight problem, always ate a lot of vegetables and fruits. She still cooks her own meals, with meat, starch and veggies. I can't convince her to lower her carbs. I'm a sugarholic myself and am trying to get back on keto, and will likely go carnivore. I've done keto before and had good success, then got sucked back into the "balance" thought process. I developed diverticulitis. I can't tolerate fiber and grains, etc. I don't know why I ever stopped keto. Thank you so much for making all this other data available, doctor.
I love spinch. However, I have a kidney stone, and spinach isn't good for those. I found baby kale. I don't like the texture of kale, but baby kale s like spinch. I made this comment for others who have the same problem. 🙂
@@funnyfarm9695 You can see still have spinach. Just make sure you follow up with a glass of water with fresh lemon juice. The acid in lemons (and limes) decreases current stones and prevents them from forming.
@@alwaysright5901 thank you for that information. I have read that lemons help with kidney stones. I just didn't think of drinking lemon water after eating something high in oxlates. 💝
Wish I had seen this many years ago. My mom suffered with this for over 30 years which significantly impacted her retirement. Good news is she lived to 96 and got the best out of life she could, just wish it could have been with sight.
I was diagnosed with Macular telangiectasia (MacTel) about three years ago. At first, it was horrible but I have gotten much better. There is no cure or treatment for this horrible disease. We have been praying every day for God's healing and we are now doing Keto (for the last year). Thank you for all you do, Dr. Berry. We really appreciate you and Neisha a lot. God bless you and congratulations to you
I know this is a couple of years late, but praying AND also speaking healing scriptures over yourself is helpful too. I have been healed of various things in the past by speaking biblical healing scriptures out loud over my conditions, so I know that it does work (at least in my case).
Wow! Spinach!!! I just had some last.night with Eggs and Blackberries... I clicked on your video BECSUSE it comes up in my YT "Feed" and LOVE your persona, kind, caring, professional, educated, authoritative. God BLESS YOU AND YOURS! ❤
Thank you, Dr. Berry! I always enjoy your messages. I also watch Dr. Eric Berg. You two are the reason I know so much about keto and hubby and I doing so well on this diet! Keep up the good work!
Indeed, my grandmother from my dad's side suffered from macular degenaration and yes, she went blind. Now my dad has it but fortunartely, it was treated just in time by injections into his eye; he's been under treatment for almost nine months and thank goodness, he is better now, he didn't lose his sight.
Shared. This runs in my family. I wish my granddad had had this info. He had almost totally lost his vision. Was an artist before it hit him 😞. Thank you Dr. Berry.
You are so right. My uncle has the disease, they give him shots in his eyeballs. It's absolutely horrific. Thank you for taking the time to talk about macular degeneration. It does effect so many people. I really believe that it's diet related. If eating spinach and sardines can help people with this disease we should shout it from the rooftops. My uncle was a concrete mason who built bridges and he built race cars too, a hard worker .He has a stunningly beautiful wife, children and grandchildren. He can't see their faces anymore or work at all. So sad. Thanks again for shining a light on this topic. Your fighting the good fight and we sincerely thank you for your hard work
So the shots your uncle gets are in no way, shape, or form horrific! The eye is completely numbed they do not feel a thing! This guy is full of shit. It is genetically passed down. And while diet plays a small part in prevention it is by no means the number one thing that changes the outcome.
I have Myopic Degeneration. I can tell you, that needle in your eyeball is not fun in the park. Even with numbing drops, there's some level of discomfort like pressure and very slight pinching. I am almost completely blind in that eye. I am only 54. This is very good advice in prevention and slowing the progression of Macular Degeneration. I hope those listening will try this, because it is a very sad thing. My elderly mother has it. Proper nutrition and diet...esp Ketogenic, is a game changer for so many conditions, not just weight loss.
I found out in January that I have macular degeneration and was shocked because I thought I was healthy and had little eye problem. I’m on the vitamins dr recommends. I also started keto in January so am hoping that my next eye dr visit it has improved. I just found your channel and am so glad. I have learned so much! Thanks so much!!!
My husband was diagnosed with the "beginnings' of MD 2 years ago but after just 9 months of low carb/keto diet with good fats only there are NO signs of it anymore! So grateful!
Two years ago I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. I started taking Occuvite plus and last year went vegetarian. This has been working good for me so far. My doctor has told me that my MD hasn't progressed any and has changed my visits to just once a year.
15 years ago, I became aware of zeaxanthin and lutein, which reside in the retina. The first is a carotenoid alcohol. Both were mostly present in kale, according to my research. Until four years ago, I ate kale daily. Then, I went on Keto. I'm currently sticking to meat, eggs, and hard cheese, but after watching your video, I might restart the old routine. I'm 86, and the macular problem has been kept away.
Dr Berry! I was diagnosed in my mid 50's with Juvenal onset Macular Degeneration to go with my half gone cataracts. When the center of my vision developed large gray areas I decided I had to do something. I had heard about the spinach but couldn't stand the taste. So I went organic and ate Kale cooked in coconut oil or butter twice a day. Yes it was mostly cooked with onions and anything to flavor it. Within 3 weeks the gray areas were gone and I spent a year on a greens and meat diet. Even my cataracts were reversed a lot. My problem was I have been IR for years and only found out how to handle it with Keto and IF this year. (I have lost over 70 lbs since May) I still use my old bifocals for reading any more but the purpose of this share is to tell you they are not testing younger people for MD! It is in the diet! Your body uses oils instead of making it so the bad oils are being placed in strategic places like the oil filled lens in your eye. Please look into the new wave of MD hitting our younger adults and head them off before they become a statistic!
I am 55 and was diagnosed with beginning macular degeneration and cataracts. I’ve been referred to a retina specialist. I have been strict keto before, following Drs. Berry and Boz. Within the past couple of days I have seen Dr. Berry talk about MD and decided to get serious, again. While I am on keto, it’s quite easy for me. In January I was injured, broke left foot and wrist and became dependent on hubby to do all shopping, cooking, household, etc. i couldn’t use crutches or drive for two months. I gained 10 pounds while being immobile and feel miserable.
I am on keto for five months and started because of failing eyesight which has severely restricted my life. I will love eating tuna salad made with my own olive oil mayo on some fresh spinach with a little cheese. Thank you.
We almost had it back in the 80s with Adkins but the problem was always hungry and no saturated or healthy fats. It worked, but it was very painful. Hooray for keto. Hooray for Dr. Berry.❤️
I appreciate you investigating different topics like this. Both my parents suffered with macular degeneration and it is a cruel disease. The shots helped delay vision loss for awhile but no cure not to mention painful and expensive. If spinach, tree nuts, sardines, and lard help prevent this then I'm all in.
You stated a serving of tree nuts per week so I googled how much is a serving of nuts it led me to Cleveland Clinic site and an article stating a study where people consumed 5 ounces of tree nuts per week resulting in 35-50% decrease in coronary heart disease incidence and death… win win for our eyes and our hearts 👁❤️thank you for your time and your efforts for our health!
Yes older now has we age every day but the point is i knew how too eat and i told my husband this but did not lisen and loved his drink gone now whent young and were only kids when got married way too young teens we knew nothing but my dad sed you are what u eat eny way i try my best i will send this video too my family, has i do whith a lot off videos,
Have macular degeneration in both eyes (age24) . finally got the most useful vid. thanks, i will start practicing ketogenic diets and ur advice as close as possible.
Diet is important… If your parent had AMD, you are twice as likely to get it. Genetic factors are key risk factors like smoking, protect your eyes from UV light, especially if you have fair skin and lighter colored eyes. With technology there are many ways to continue reading And enjoying life low vision rehabilitation Jim be wonderful, not sad or terrible… Been helping people for 40 years, over 15,000 patients. With juvenile Macular Degeneration myself for over 50 years, continued with college and graduate school, quality of life is so important and is attainable.
I love how you are showing possible ways to help keep from going blind with the macular degeneration. My grandma was almost blind by the time she left this world because of that disease and before that she was very independent and had to learn to be a little bit more dependent on people and I think that drove nuts at times.
If time matters fast forward to 3.23. 1. Eat a cup of spinach a day, 2. Consume fatty ocean fish three times a week, 3. Do not eat so-called vegetable oil throw them away 4. Peanuts are not real nuts eat real nuts grow on trees 5. Don't eat food which has high glycemic index 6. Increase the amount of good quality fats
On Keto, eating spinach should be cautioned because of the high oxalates in it. Oxalates tend to form painful kidney stones. I've had a real problem with getting stones and was eating alot of spinach with mixed salad greens. I never want to get them again! I drink alot of water. Since I stopped eating spinach a year ago, I haven't had any stones.
My grandmother went completely blind, both my gramas had macular and I've been terrified my whole life this would happen to me. NO ONE has talked about diet being the major factor here. Makes me, so sad because she suffered so much but it gives me hope. I've been keto since May of this year, it makes so much sense to me. Also, hope to turn back my fatty liver - again my liver doctor just said to eat a Mediterranean diet with no explanation why, he never told me I could turn back the liver fat. Finding you has been such a positive thing for me. THANK YOU
There is definitely hope!!! Just because others in your family have something, it is no guarantee that you will get it. There are exceptions, but the majority of ailments that "run in the family" happen when certain genes are expressed. Lifestyle (and diet!!!) are key!
It hit me at 50 in my right eye. I have a macular hole in my lef. I've had multiple retina detachments in each eye. I am diabetic but my vision issues is not from the diabetes. I continued having issues controling my A!C, on keto so now i am carnivore. My eye Dr was thrilled to tell me 6 yrs later that I still d9 not have diabetic retinopathy. I wouldn't wish this degree of vision loss on anyone.
Doc, This video is thrilling. People faced with MD are lost in the woods until they see this video. I don't think the whole story is told anywhere else. You were inspired by the universe to put all this data together for us.
This is too depressing. I’ve just been diagnosed at 60 and felt hopeful until I listened to you! I’m vegetarian and have a great diet. I only use olive oil. I’ve started taking Luiten. I work full time & now really worried I won’t be able to work! Seeing a specialist at our eye hospital soon. So fingers crossed.
There are folks that warn about kidney stones developing from eating Spinach. Sadly my vegetarian daughter did. But of course that does not mean everyone will. This is an excellent video and I am so glad I stumbled across it. Thank you Dr. Berry.
that is what I am worried about too...I know of people getting kidney stones from eating spinach every day. I hope Dr. makes a video on how to NOT get kidney stones when eating spinach every day.
I've had Mac deg in right eye only so I'm able to see well. After dozens of injections, laser treatments it was decided no more could be done. Iwas diagnosed 10 yrs ago at 56, young for md... Good to know to keep my left eye healthy!
Dr. Ken, They don't really hold you down, to, give this shot. Yes, it goes in the eye, but the eye ball is numbed and you do not feel any discomfort. Next, Have been going to Eye Specialist since 2014, Changed doctors, due to changing Insurance Company, have since experienced an improvement in my Right Eye, which has wet AMD. My Left Eye, has Dry AMD. This has happened while changing my diet, from Western, to Low Card High Fat, diet. Still, not able to read from my Right Eye, but now I can read the second line on the eye chart, that I could not do before. Seams your are right on target with your video information. Thank you for being here at this time. Hope many more people find you, and use your information.
Thanks so much for the info. Dr. Berg! My father and all his three siblings had MD. I’m so afraid of getting it. My oldest aunt was completely blind for the last ten years of her life, I don’t even want to think about that!
Great video, I was diagnosed with MD just 6 days ago, it's a very small spot in my right eye just above my line of sight. I started taking Lutein and Zeaxanthin the same day and in just 6 days I have a noticed an improvement. I still have the distortion but I can see color in the spot now, and the distortion has decreased. I'll try the keto diet along with the L&Z supplements. My goal is to try and reverse this and keep it away. I have an appointment with a Retina specialist in 2 days to test for Wet MD. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the video !!!
I have juvenile macular. I suspect that fasting is impacting my sight positively. I am in the process of fasting and monitoring the impact on my sight.
Diagnosed with macular degeneration about 3 years ago. Began keto diet about the same time. Macular degeneration has not changed much - Diet has kept md from getting worse!🤗
I only started Keto 3 months ago, as part of my cancer avoidance plan. Finding you was the cream chese on the metaphorical cake and now I know why. My eyes are a worry. After years complaining about a small hole in my vision ( I'm a jeweller!!), my optician found a mark on my retina 3 years ago and called it AMD. I have used the Amsler Grid he gave me and tucked into the spinach - which he said should be lightly steamed. The distortions on the grid have changed very little since then. When I went for my check , three weeks ago, I could not see the 2 middle letters on the top line...forget the rest of the chart! That gives me a clear base line. I have begun taking a mix of 2x (Lutein 10mg, Bilberry (as a 4:1 extract) 200mg, Zeaxanthin 400ug, Grapeseed (as a 50:1 extract) 500mg) , eating even more spinach and oily fish and staying with the butter, olive and coconut oil. I will be taking notes every month to keep track and am looking forward to an improvement by next year. Will let you know. Oh, I'm 72 - Not Out. Minus 14 pounds and counting. This looked like a neat paragraph before I hit save...both times. Oh well.
I just found your channel today. My grandma and mother had this disease. I had no clue at all and was never told anything about it until 2017,when I was 63. I still didn't know it was hereditary or that I even had it. I was born not being able to see good (thought the whole world was supposed to look blurry) and have worn glasses since the age of 8 - just went through life thinking I was nearsighted. I was diagnosed with dry three years ago and told there was nothing to do about it. Yesterday was re-diagnosed with wet. The central vision in my left eye is already gone. My only option is a needle in my eye for the rest of my life. I don't want that. Every poke in the eye opens the door for potential infection or other complications. My mother had already lost her central vision by 2017. I still did not know what that meant for me in the future. Am I mad? Yes indeed.
The only thing we have used crisco for is to clean our hands of grease and oil from equipment we work on. Very effective without drying out the skin. Never use it in the kitchen.
@@janicemaceachern1004 Large Crisco or similar store brands, with a taper in the middle, creates a wonderful long-lasting emergency candle, too. Insert hot round rod to make insertion of taper easier.
I have a wrinkle in my retina but really see a difference in my vision since on keto diet for almost 2 yrs now. I can see things I couldn’t when 1st diagnosed 2 years ago. It is worth it alone being on this diet (+the 49-50 lb wgt loss). My eye is better so I will stick with it and not listen to others!
Here is the diet that will slow/prevent Macular Degeneration: bit.ly/KETO101
Thank you
KenDBerryMD I’m a slender athletic 60 year old man who has never had a weight issue.
Dr Berry. Is flax seed oil ok to cook with?
So what about spinach being so high in oxalates? Oxalates can affect the eyes.
I heard about carnivore diet is good for healing AMD.
What diet did you follow? Thanks
Ha yeah right ace! Then you never had it to begin with! Who put you up to this?

I also take Lamberts Eyewise and omega 3, and sustained release vitamin C but that hasn't changed for 8 years
You might try using a Opthamologist versus an Optician.
You used to have a lot of floaters but you don't have them anymore ?
Wow, this was very informative and hopeful. Thank you!
Kathy ....
THANK YOU !
I have it
and I love hope.
I also love my vision .
Any new updates or progress using your strategy thus far?

Dear Dr. Berry and Neisha,
I am one of your prize students or apprentices or disciple perhaps!!!! After listening to your
video on Macular Degeneration it made a huge difference in my life.
So bless you and your family,
Thank you!!!!
Nancy
I am a retired 20 year military RN. You are a great Doctor! Thank You!
Dr. Berry, you must remind people that Olive Oil & Avocado Oil "may be cut" with the cheap seed
oils that you warn us against. In this instance, they are called "carrier oils". This is done to keep
the cost of these 2 oils, cheap. So we need to contact the manufacturer to ask them what, if any,
"carrier" oils they put into their Olive or Avocado oil bottles!!!
I’m a certified ophthalmic assistant. I see patients with this everyday. I’m going to talk to my doctors about this information!!
Doctors don't care, they make money off other people's misery
Are u still employed??? Dr's don't like to hear anything about food as medicine. Good luck.
Good luck.
KenDBerryMD Unfortunately the Specialists dont have a clue even in their trained fields
My gastroenterologist had no clue what leaky gut is, my Psychiatrist says Benzodiazepines and other Psyc Meds are completely safe, tell my brain that.

Thank you so very much with all the information you share.
.
Our eye doctor last year recommended spinach to reduce the risk but I had not heard the others.
anthony mason Hi Anthony yes you are right not common knowledge.
Hippocrates said: "Let your medicine be your food, let your food be your medicine".
She sounds like a beautiful human being - to accept the condition gracefully while missing it.

Did you get some vision back?
Amen
Same here. My folks eat canola and soybean oils, grains, sugars and lean chicken. They won't listen to me and I don't even talk about it anymore.
I preach to friends and family about their diet and prescription drug use. They remain clueless.
Please can you tell me what you ate, I have macular and have injections in both eyes ever month, Am so fed up,!! thank you
Were you on keto? And how long between your eye appointments did you discover that it went away?
Yes please can we have more info on what you ate ?

Dr.
I hope things improve for you.
Let your food be your medicine.
1cup spinach a day
Salmon or fatty ocean fish 3x week
1 serving week of tree nuts a week
I see!
Tree nuts what are they?
Most all nuts grow on trees. Brazil pecan pistachio filberts walnuts they are grown trees. Pili nuts are supposed to be about the best but I've never had one I just assumed they grow in a tree too.
Peanuts grow in the dirt and they're not true nuts.
I reversed my macular degeneration cold with Keto.
What about COFFEE?
If can possible macular degeneration treatment...?
How?
What Is keto?
@@sulaimanniazi3736 Keto is eating only foods that do not raise your blood sugar. Check all the Keto and carnivore users on UA-cam for more info. Good luck.
You actually reversed it???

Love it!
I thought that i was following your advice when i gave up my fav snack of apples with almond butter, spinache and all other vegetable Now I'm so very confused and also suddenly seem to be going blind
I notice that this video is a few years old, and i know that over the years you've changed some of your diet ideas.. so am even more confused and surprised now to see the 2024 tag on this video would be very grateful for yours and any of your listener's advice.. thank you all ❤
I already have MD but feel more hopeful now. Thank you.
I have macular degeneration in my left eye, my sight seems to be improving since I started keto and intermittent fasting last may
That's awesome!
John James I have it in my left eye to. I reversed mine . But I have to keep up my eating right.
That's encouraging to hear. I have it pretty bad in my right eye, can't read with it. I just started Keto two weeks ago. I will probably start the shots very soon. I'll also start eating spinach and more fish.

How you doing after the keto diet. Im curious if you got any improvement..

Sir what is you're name in facebook I have AMD please sir help me
@@marysagayno2461 am suffering macular degeneration..any treatment..?
Thank you. I rarely ever miss one of your videos
If only we can have a conversation regarding this issue. My dad is 45 yrs old
And he’s seeing specialist they haven’t given him a official diagnosis but they have mention this MD and before this happened if it wasn’t because his licensed expired we wouldn’t think anything of it
Now I’m trying to do research and a list of his new diet and we will all do it with him
Great video.
Thank you. Just diagnosed with Dry MD - very worrying. Seeing my specialist into weeks. Started keto this week/e altho I am vegetarian.
My mother-in-law was told she had the beginning signs of this at her last eye exam. I'll be sharing this with her for sure. Thank you!
Rewatching to remind myself of your good advice. Thankyou so much for your care and concern for your UA-cam friends. God bless you and your family.
It's the lutein in the spinach which can prevent amd...and it's found in all dark leafy greens like kale and collards...so yes..spinach is great too
I love spinch.

I know this is a couple of years late, but praying AND also speaking healing scriptures over yourself is helpful too. I have been healed of various things in the past by speaking biblical healing scriptures out loud over my conditions, so I know that it does work (at least in my case).

I hate those shots. Stings like HELL

I have this disease, I have been Keto / Carnivore for 2 years, thank you for this message
Berry.❤️
Thanks Doc, I have MD and have never heard this information from anyone else except from you...Today...Thanks again

When Dr Berry is talking we want to hear everything, but thanks for the thought.

I just learned that vitamin D reverses maculate degeneration and it's not an age related eye disease either❤

that is what I am worried about too...I know of people getting kidney stones from eating spinach every day. I hope Dr. makes a video on how to NOT get kidney stones when eating spinach every day.

I've had Mac deg in right eye only so I'm able to see well. After dozens of injections, laser treatments it was decided no more could be done. Iwas diagnosed 10 yrs ago at 56, young for md... Good to know to keep my left eye healthy!
I habe a honest doc. He told me nothing can help against MDA. So no monay in vain for the docs. But since 2 years in Keto, MDA is minimally....
That is what my dad gets...the shots... Like twice a month. It has slowed the degeneration....but it is still happening.
What happened? Is your vision ok?
I have juvenile macular. I suspect that fasting is impacting my sight positively. I am in the process of fasting and monitoring the impact on my sight.
Did it work?
Diagnosed with macular degeneration about 3 years ago. Began keto diet about the same time. Macular degeneration has not changed much - Diet has kept md from getting worse!🤗
I only started Keto 3 months ago, as part of my cancer avoidance plan. Finding you was
the cream chese on the metaphorical cake and now I know why. My eyes are a worry.
After years complaining about a small hole in my vision ( I'm a jeweller!!), my optician found
a mark on my retina 3 years ago and called it AMD. I have used the Amsler Grid he gave me
and tucked into the spinach - which he said should be lightly steamed.
The distortions on the grid have changed very little since then. When I went for my check ,
three weeks ago, I could not see the 2 middle letters on the top line...forget the rest of the
chart! That gives me a clear base line.
I have begun taking a mix of 2x (Lutein 10mg, Bilberry (as a 4:1 extract) 200mg, Zeaxanthin
400ug, Grapeseed (as a 50:1 extract) 500mg) , eating even more spinach and oily fish and
staying with the butter, olive and coconut oil. I will be taking notes every month to keep
track and am looking forward to an improvement by next year.
That's a great idea! I never thought of that!
Skin absorbs.....
Lol and people eat it
Space Ghost - there are different rates of absorption for different materials, but skin absorbs.
Thank you, Dr Berry! I'm sending this to my Mom right away! 💕
