Hello. I have a question: as I stared at the astigmatism dial it started to have wavy lines and then vibrating, I don't think that it is supposed to be like that, what do you think?
Hi! Can you tell me about something called "static vision"? I have never been able to look at the color white or black without seeing these dots. It's been like this my entire life. I thought everyone saw the world like that! I have excellent vision besides that! Thank you!! Have a wonderful day!❤
I've been slowly going blind for the last 6 years, I have heavy suspension it's being caused by the DC led lights I use. What do you think or what can I do to confirm this?
Same, although I suspect that these tests, particularly the visual-field test, might identify someone with a more advanced problem, but an in-office test might pick up more early stage issues. Even someone who doesn't wear glasses should ensure they see their eye-care professional once a year. Many eye diseases are "silent" early on while causing damage. Those of us who wear eye glasses are used to yearly visits. I'm frequently surprised by my friends who have better vision reporting they haven't seen an eye doctor in years. Not a good idea.
Yeah same. I'm severely visually impaired so was like yup saw one dot in my side vision, failed most of it but the colour blindness as I have actually the fourth cone mutation and am the other way around, I'm extremely colour sensitive
3:45 this green dot test is actually awesome for something else entirely, just found out while keeping one eye closed at a time. For people with astigmatism, like myself, it shows an "echo", a double image of the green dot, weaker in color and overlapped on the original. The nice thing is, you can determine exactly at what angle your astigmatism is on each eye. For example, with my left eye open, the double appeared at 12 o'clock and with my right eye at 11 o'clock. I'm unsure how that transcribes with what eye doctors write on those charts, the "degrees".
Oh wow I noticed that but didn't think about it again until you said it! The green dot was definitely not perfectly round when I looked, but had the echo you described.
Yep I noticed the same thing with my right eye. I remember describing how my vision looks in my right eye to my mother as a kid, told her it's like the sharpen effect in Photoshop, she was so confused lol. I suppose what I meant is that things have double edges or look like 2 images imposed on each other but not prefectly aligned.
For somebody that spends most of their time in front of a screen, whether for work, school or gaming, I did pretty well on these. Thank you for the insight

One thing to note is that this test works better if you're well rested. If you are up late watching youtube videos you might not get accurate results. Lack of sleep messes with your vision regardless of how good your eyesight is.
I had two different visual field tests at my ophtalmologist recently and passed both with perfect scores. Then I discovered Dr.Chua's youtube channel and did the visual field test. I was shocked that repeatedly with my left eye I saw only ten out of the eleven flashes. Called my eye doctor the next day and she explained that the testing machines in a doctor's office are programmed to compensate for the blind spot which every eye naturally has. A pre-recorded test on youtube is, of course, unable to do this, so if you're "unlucky" one of the flashes might be right on your blind spot which could lead to unnecessary worries. Still, the test in this film is the closest to a "real" visual field test I could find on the internet, and it's definitely a good thing he posted it. It should be noted though that eleven flashes are too little to check the entire visual field. If you don't see one of the flashes, chances are it's the blind spot, but I still strongly recommend you get a checkup by an ophtalmologist.
Damn that actually happened now, I also thought of the blind spot, happened in the same eye and everything, at least on this one I can trust that we should be all similar, maybe Dr Chua should correct the test and say that on the left eye expect on some distances from the monitor to not see one of the flashes or something like that
Thank you for sharing this! I've always thought I had excellent peripheral vision but I took the "flashing light" test 7 times--three times with my left eye, three times with my right eye and once with both eyes. I saw all 11 flashes each time with my right eye and when I tried both eyes, but all three times with my left eye, I saw only 10 flashes. I was definitely missing flash #3, or maybe 4. You just put my mind at ease!
After you go to the eye doctor for most of these they will just say "we will monitor it, please come back in 3 months" you will watch as they do nothing as you slowly go blind.
The visual field test was tricky...I was seeing 12 with the right and 10 with the left. Then I focused better again and saw all 11 with both eyes. Very cool and useful home eye tests. Thank you!

yes I also have that problem in my first eye that I test there I retake it and got it all perfectly while looking at the center. I just realize I just lack focus because the first 1 i might accidentaly skip because of fast forwarding then I might or might not thinking something while looking at the screen. Sheet I might have ADHD.
Doing this test on a monitor or screen at home is pretty flawed. You can either position it too far away so your peripheral is never tested, or too close and it's genuinely out of where you would reasonably be able to see. Doing it properly requires specific distance and screen measurements. Proper tests also account for things like your natural blind spots etc
No one: I failed the Test, The Fees of Eye Doctor was ₹2000. Then I saw the thumbnail, so I saw the eye doctor from outside of it's dispensary. Now I am feeling better ❤ Thanks for helping Michael
I learned more about my eyes from these little tests than from my expensive optician, so thank you :) I'm 80 and failed just about everything (I've never got past the first page with the Ishihara Color Vision Test) and will definitely sign up for your newsletter., thank you for posting :)
Thank you so very much for sharing this information. The color palettes thingy was "eye-opening". My good eye can perfectly see even the darker hues easily, while the other one can't. And then you went on explaining the color saturation of the red bottle cap as being seen as pink. That was one hard to swallow pill for me. I had a really awful inflammation on both eyes as a kid and the ophthalmologist could never find out what caused this. I remember seeing everything very washed out with one eye and that caused me terrible headache. Eventually the infection went away but left one of my eyes in terrible condition. This unexplicably eye infection repeated itself other times as well, last time approx. 5 years ago. Now I'm diagnosed with MS bc of other symptoms that flared up and as I told my neurologist, she told me that the eye infection repeating itself could have probably been the first sign of MS that went undiagnosed when I was a kid. I'm not sure if I have ever told her about the problem with seeing in different color saturation as a kid, this will be the next thing I will tell her in our next appointment.
That's interesting. So it changed hues in one of your eyes? wow. You know MS is much more common in females than males for some reason as well and it seems to make its presence known in the late 40's early 50's. Wonder if it has anything to do with menopause onset? Annette F and now Christina Applegate comes to mind. Annette eventually succumbed to it at 70yo.
@@leecowell8165 Practically, yes. The infection damaged something in the eye. I still can see colors as they are with my bad eye, so I do recognise colors but not with the same intensity as with my good eye. It's more like a lighter shade or something. It's really crazy, thinking about it x_x
@@leecowell8165Many people have MS symptoms long before they finally get a diagnosis. I know someone who was diagnosed 53 but the doctors told her she probably had it since her 20s. A lot of women who are ill are victims of medical gaslighting, and are viewed as hypochondriacs.
i only see the number 16, i also have astigmatism. i was always told i was deuteranomaly. ever since i was 12 and got tested. thank you im posting this for any skeptics or any people in denial. this is a real test. Thank you Dr Michael
When he started showing the color palettes, I'm like, "Yes!" And then, he mentions people with Multiple Sclerosis. I deal with MS, yet I work with Photoshop and I can see colors extremely well, even despite wearing glasses. For his tests, I removed my glasses as he suggested. I covered my right eye. I saw the variation of the different colors, especially his last, which was blue. I saw that it was 1 and I was right. Even despite having been diagnosed in 2018, and possibly having developed it as early as possibly sometime in 2016 or 2017 without knowledge, I'm thankful that I haven't lost my ability to see the expanse of colors all around me.
I couldn't see any of them. Wish I could afford a damn doctor, I have more than enough MS symptoms to be concerned. This is definitely moving it higher on the priority list
1:19 Be careful with Ishihara on arbitrary displays, especially "at home". Screens vary, due to poor calibration or saturation boosting, or just spectra differences from different display technologies - and that affects whether the tests are doing what they're supposed to. People that *do* have color blindness will often end up seeing the "other" answer faintly, or from certain viewing angles.
I fully agree. The RGB and RGBW models used by displays are inherently prone to cause metameric issues, especially with the narrow band primarily colors on modern displays. Even properly calibrated professional displays can be misleading. I think Ishihara tests should be done with printed cards and proper full spectrum illumination, never on electronic displays or with cards under LED illumination except to give a rough indication of a possible color vision deficiency.
What would you say if the same test was conducted in a poorly lit room, on 6-8 inch flip cards, 6 ft away, not at eye level (2 ft below) and also at a slight possibly 45 degree angle?
@@iRavenTM On high quality inks and archival-grade matte paper, the test is actually resilient to most of that, except potentially the lighting if it has poor CRI. People scrutinized robustness to those things while initially developing the test, because those challenges already existed back then, unlike computer screens (and fluorescent or LED lights). See also peoples' comments about the visual field test in those weird machines.
Actually the contrast test is what really depends on the screen. Most low-mid level budget panels have problem with proper contrast, and that is only accurate if you have a proper panel with enough contrast ratio, especially a VA panel.
Unless you have a really bad screen, it should be fine. Most OLED screens might actually make it easier for a colorblind person to pass those test. You don't really need an extremely precise environment to actually check if someone is colorblind, the difference between even the slighest colorblindness and non colorblindness should be pretty day and night on these tests.
I have amblyopia so it was just the test for my one eye wther it had other problems or not . my both eyes performed good in the test , right one was best, test is fun but yeah it cant be replaced by actual check up and we should get eye check ups at least once in a year👍👍👍👍👍
the best thing is, the more tests you do, the more you understand. in the astigmatism one I could only see the vertical lines sharp, while the horizontal ones were blurry. and in the amsler grid one it started to make sense because all the vertical lines were sharp, while the horizontal ones were blurry, just like in the astigmatism test.
Thanks for the tests. Seem to do pretty well with most of them - viewed them on a nice 40 inch LCD screen. The color blindness test was the hardest with the first two numbers were hard to pick out. Also the Blue shades seemed to be hard to see the darker shade of blue. The others were easy. I just went to my eye doctor and got VMT taken care of in my right eye with surgery - which all went well. Vision is better now. Go back to an eye doctor in April. I am 75 years old. Thanks for the video.
It’s late and I find myself taking these eye tests…and enjoying them. (Btw I think I may need to see an eye doc). Dr. Chua has a very soothing voice. Great video, thanks!
3:28 - I performed this test twice with my left eye (right eye closed) and on both result I got to see 10 flashes. So I got kinda confused of what's going on when I heard there were 11 flashes. I then remembered that human eyes have small blind spots (through which blood vessels enter the retina). Turns out, one of the flashes (probably the 4th one) was exactly where my eye's blind spot was (based on the distance between the monitor and my eye), and that's why I counted 10 as I couldn't see that one. I later performed the test again and confirmed that it was indeed the 4th flash that I couldn't see with my left eye. My right eye got to see all 11 flashes though. Nice test!
@@Tom--Ace flip the video horizontally, and it will become an issue with your right eye 😂 nothing to worry here, everybody's eyes are designed this way. that tiny area of your eyesight contains blood veins that enter your eyes, so there are no rods or cone cells there. that's why you can't see through there. but having two eyes get you covered.
For the first one, when looking at it with the left eye, the top left DIAGONAL lines were a bit blurry, and wiggled. For the right eye, the right side lines did that. So neither of the examples you gave explained it. The rest were a breeze. Although, two very important things here: 1) For the color test, you have to know that the viewer has a properly calibrated display. 2) You only mentioned viewing distance in the visual field test but not the others, as if they were not relevant, but surely it has to be for the others too (except for the color test maybe). We all have different sized monitors, and also sit closer or further away than each other..
Very helpful video, I have Optic Neuritis since April, 2023, my right eye is the victim here. I have regained just about 25% of the vision. I aced in all the tests you gave to me, except for the colour blindness test, in that one I got 16 only correct. I am currently on a biannual dose of Rituximab. An innerside of me says that it is taking too long to restore the vision of my right eye… 😢
Other than my horrendous case of myopia. (-12 in both eyes) I aced all of the tests. I have an appointment for my routine dilated eye exam in about a month either way. I was already diagnosed with lattice degeneration in both eyes and got a laser treatment for it. This gives me a peace of mind that everything is fine for now.
Hey, i am so glad you shared it. My doc told me i had the same thing although my power is around -2 and -3. She asked me to get lazer for prevention. i was pretty scared and worried. Thanks for sharing it man :)
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE TESTS WILL PRODUCE VARYING RESULTS, SINCE SOME SMALL CHANGES WILL NOT BE VISIBLE ON A LOW QUALITY GRAPHICS SCREEN, OR A SMALL PHONE, AND IT WILL CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE QUALITY OF YOUR COMPUTER!
I can't believe all these years the optometrists I been to have always missed one of these tests. Thanks, will be asking for the full panel next time around.
22 years ago, a gentleman I knew told me to take Luteine 20Mg a day to help prevent visual issues later on. He was 61 and could still read fine print!! I took his advice and have been taking it daily. Proud to say I'm 62, had a physical, including eye test, pulled a 20/20. The tech kept asking if I had Laser surgery. I kept saying use Luteine. LOL. This video was fun. Thanks!
I already knew I have astigmatism (with the rule), but this video helped me understand how "bad" I got it. I could see only the very top and the very bottom vertical lines perfectly sharp, while the lines right next to both their sides were already slightly blurred. 😅 That was with my left eye, for the records. my right eye is performing only slightly better, with the two top and bottom lines perfectly fine, and the adjacent ones on either side starting to blur.
Great idea. I have a Snellen at 20 feet. I use my own test lenses. My visual acuity is 20/20. My refraction is measured as +0.5 dioper, both eyes. Self measure is a great idea. Thank you!
5:33 For that test, something you did not say happen I think, the lines weren't moving, but the whole one is moving like flipping in the screen and then the line are the stable and the white screen beside is moving.
I passed the astigmatism test, the colour blindness test, and the entire colour contrast test, though I paused the video for a moment on the that last instance of the contrast test. And now I've finished the video and I passed everything. :) I have a mild myopia, but there don't seem to be any further issues.
@0:16 My eyes are so bad, its all blurry but I do have astigmatism with double vision. It's very fun as contacts don't work, and lasik doesn't help. Dr said lasik would correct my sight but I would need glasses for my double vision.
Weird, I know for certain that I have astigmatism in each eye, but I notice no issues during the astigmatism part of the test. However, based on the comment from @HDJess I looked at the green dot in the visual field test, and could clearly see what he's referring to. It was significant with one eye (about 11 and 5 o'clock), and more subtle with the other.
@@manthansharma4835 My astigmatism is diagonal. It doesn't have to be either vertical or horizontal like the video implied. Diagonal is normal and usually each eye is on the opposite diagonal, like a mirror image.
Passed 100% thankfully. I'm just getting over an eye infection in my right eye. It caused vision problems for me through Thanksgiving all last weekend. What a scare, but I seem to be recovering. However, I stress seeing a doctor to check if you have high eye pressure. If I hadn't last year, I'd have gone blind. Mine was in the 30s. Very scary. Really caught me by surprise. I'm on lumigan for life now but it's worth it. One drop per eye every night before bed. Although I'm Canadian and my medical visits cost me nothing and my prescription barely costs me anything, it's still worth it if you are American and have to pay a lot. It's worth protecting your eyesight.
I had cataract surgery on both eyes a couple of years ago and I still am tested annually for macula degeneration because my mother had it. So far, everything is ok!😊👍
I'm an optical dispensing assistant and we do visual fields very often. There are many different types of tests. The most common we do is "24-2" and "C76".
Please to explain more about the field test When you see then click button How do we know that the click was for that dot and not for another Have done the testing a few times made me feel quite tired Also felt like the light was burning just under eye socket
On the last test when I covered my right eye the left most vertical lines seemed bent. When I covered my left eye the right most vertical lines seemed bent. I passed all the other tests.
As a heavy mobile phone user usually i spend atleast 12 hours a day , I'm glad i able to pass all the tests, my family always say i might have problems because of how much phone I use.
I knew I had an astigmatism in each eye, I never knew which type I had though. I didn’t know there was such a simple test for it either. Very cool video!
The astigmatism test was actually fun; I didn't know the angle of each of my eyes' lenses until watching this; it was just a number from the eye doctor to me prior to this.

The visual field test was tricky...I was seeing 12 with the right and 10 with the left. Then I focused better again and saw all 11 with both eyes. Very cool and useful home eye tests. Thank you!
lets analyse the lies which are world wide believed:
lie: schools are of use (fact. schools keep slavery alive and stands for dumbing down the population of mankind)
lie: moon and mars landings, (fact: even masons know they cannot leave - earth is closed system, unless you want to drown, there is no other place created for us to live in.)

lie: Evolution and the dinosaurs. (fact: mankind is not hybrid kind)
to keep stating that there was an evolution, then we ain´t humans, we aint then mankind, we are then hybrids. Are you a hybrid?
Lie: holidays (xmas, Halloween, new year eve and so on) (fact: PAGAN HOLIDAYS, to praise BAAL, the god of this world)
lie: U.F.Os (fact: they are demons/evil spirits in high places, against whom we fight daily = spiritual warfare)
lie: rules and laws rule the world (fact: signs and symbols of masonry do)
lie: believe in being educated (fact: found daily living with the lack of knowledge)
lie: religions are ways to heaven (fact: JESUS CHRIST is only way to heaven. Religions, no matter its name = masonic garbage)
lie: our dead loved ones stay around to “ghost” (fact: hunting and ghosting is job of demons, not of humans. We, humans, come from GOD and return back to HIM and all the stories of having been seen a ghost - terrifying, scary, dark, cold - again no job of analysing been done here by you- right?)
Lie: Humans have no immune system and we need vaccines as these save lives (fact: humans HAVE IMMUNE SYSTEM and vaccines are created for one or two purpose: to kill or to cripple)
lie: there is no GOD (fact: There is GOD, who redeems sinners and created us directly from the dust of the earth: Psalms 139:14
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.)
to keep claiming that there is no GOD and we aint created directly from the dust of the earth, we soon run out logic, regardless to we place “evolution” in our claims or not.)
lie: 911 was terror attack (fact: 911 was an inside job, meaning the work of your loved government)
lie: Tv watching is of use (fact: television (TV) = tell a lie vision, a weapon for our minds, keeping it under MK ULTRA)
half lie/half truth: earth is a stage where everyone plays rolls (fact: earth is stage, freemasonry checkerboard, where both side, black and white are masons and humans both in politics and regular souls = the naive public gets daily played)
lie: children are government to raise (fact: children are parents to raise, it takes 2 to make them, it takes 2 to raise them).
19 lies, should i go on?
This world ain´t deceived, out there to deceive?
yes I also have that problem in my first eye that I test there I retake it and got it all perfectly while looking at the center.
How many students are here📚
hi
Me! Because I'm currently a first year college student
No one: I failed the Test, The Fees of Eye Doctor was ₹2000. Then I saw the thumbnail, so I saw the eye doctor from outside of it's dispensary.
Now I am feeling better ❤ Thanks for helping Michael
I'm a med student and optho is the ONLY surge spec I'd consider. You guys are AWESOME and thank you for your extreme dedication to medicine!
hey, why optho? I’ll be going to med school next year so I’m searching stuff about it :)
Fun! I got an “A” … for astigmatism.
Whats happen if somebody is watching in 144p resolution
I first thought I have eye problem.Later found out it was 144p😂
😂😂
🎉😂😂😂
TOO MUCH GOOD! Appreciate your efforts doctor.
i only see the number 16, i also have astigmatism. i was always told i was deuteranomaly. ever since i was 12 and got tested. thank you im posting this for any skeptics or any people in denial. this is a real test.
Even despite having been diagnosed in 2018, and possibly having developed it as early as possibly sometime in 2016 or 2017 without knowledge, I'm thankful that I haven't lost my ability to see the expanse of colors all around me.
i couldnt see the pink one, but every other one with ease.
I couldn't see any of them. Wish I could afford a damn doctor, I have more than enough MS symptoms to be concerned. This is definitely moving it higher on the priority list
These tests are so well done. It gave me confidence that my eyes aren't so bad. Thank you for doing this video Dr Chua.
You don't really need an extremely precise environment to actually check if someone is colorblind, the difference between even the slighest colorblindness and non colorblindness should be pretty day and night on these tests.
i accepted my fate that i have astigmatism at the first test but realized the video is in 144P😢
😂
Damn😂
I was failing the color sensitivity test miserably until I realised that it's just my messed up tv color settings😭
Everythings blurry , one eye worse than the other , could hardly see the green dots ,

It's prudent to seek expert advice when creating a solid financial portfolio due to its complexities.

I did great, only messed up the blue for the colour contrast and sensitivity.
Really informative video, thank you!

2:40 woow that level 4 blue colour was so difficult for me. It was first when the white lines was removed I could see the difference.
Me too
All the blues looked the same to me. Could only see the difference once they removed the white lines.
Same for me. It didn't help that I have a window on the left, I think its better to do this with uniform lighting.
For me both level 3 and 4 was difficult. Even giving it a second chance, it's still difficult for me
I have amblyopia so it was just the test for my one eye wther it had other problems or not . my both eyes performed good in the test , right one was best, test is fun but yeah it cant be replaced by actual check up and we should get eye check ups at least once in a year👍👍👍👍👍
Passed every test with 100% accuracy. Glad to know that🙂
It’s not a real t…. you know what nevermind. You did good buddy!👍
the best thing is, the more tests you do, the more you understand. in the astigmatism one I could only see the vertical lines sharp, while the horizontal ones were blurry. and in the amsler grid one it started to make sense because all the vertical lines were sharp, while the horizontal ones were blurry, just like in the astigmatism test.
thank god i saw your comment. Parts of the Amsler Grid are so blurry that I got really worried I had some undiagnosed vision damage.
Yeah I think you have astigmatism aswell.@@AT-ue3rm
I took the eye test last week and for me it was 6/6 L/R…and absolutely this test gave me the same results….thanks doc
This is one of the most useful videos on UA-cam ever.
I passed every test. Very comforting to know the health of my vision. Thank you sooo much for this excellent video ❤
Thanks Dr. Chua. Your presentation is excellent and very helpful as a preliminary test.
Thanks for helping me figure out the orientation of my astigmatism 😊
Have a great rest of the year!
Nice test!
yeah thats what happened to me, i counted 10
Me too, with the left eye. Is this an issue?
@@Tom--Ace no i dont think so, its just your eye veins in the way creating a mini blind spot. i wouldnt worry
@@Tom--Ace flip the video horizontally, and it will become an issue with your right eye 😂
nothing to worry here, everybody's eyes are designed this way. that tiny area of your eyesight contains blood veins that enter your eyes, so there are no rods or cone cells there. that's why you can't see through there. but having two eyes get you covered.

Different from the math test
That was with my left eye, for the records. my right eye is performing only slightly better, with the two top and bottom lines perfectly fine, and the adjacent ones on either side starting to blur.
Great idea.
I have a Snellen at 20 feet.
I use my own test lenses.
My visual acuity is 20/20.

Brilliant! No filler.... straight to the point!
2:33 all 10 looks the same for me.
I had to turn off truetone and night shift to see it more clearly xD.

5:26 anybody else?
This doctor explain and demonstrate information very well!
0:40 The first time I covered my left eye, the lines looked like they were vibrating.
literally my eyes were warping the image the whole time
Weird, I know for certain that I have astigmatism in each eye, but I notice no issues during the astigmatism part of the test. However, based on the comment from @HDJess I looked at the green dot in the visual field test, and could clearly see what he's referring to. It was significant with one eye (about 11 and 5 o'clock), and more subtle with the other.
I see the diagonal lines blurry.
What does that mean.
@@manthansharma4835 that your astigmatizm angled like mine
