So perfectly put Aileen at the first pause. That's what all great art should be: an intimate impression of the expressions of others. Allow it to be whatever it may happen to be, without essays and analytical critiques, using the piece itself as a vehicle. This is heavy funk at its best. When their album Frizzle Fry came out in early 90s I became obsessed with Primus. Les is one of the most creative bassists I've ever heard, and I've listened to many, across many genres. His Delerium with Sean Lennon is one of my favorite bands.
I went a house party in the bay area circa ‘89/90, and Primus was jammin in the backyard loud AF! The pit was fierce and couldn’t see shit cuz of the dirt dust cloud covering the whole block. It was my first time hearing them and it was metal as hell
I remember the first time i listened to the Sea of cheese album and I was thinking that bass guitar will never sound the same again. I absolutely love "Jerry was a race car driver "
A few Primus favorites of mine *The Toys Go Winding Down *Del Davis Tree Farm *Hamburger Train *Over The Electric Grapevine (I suggest the studio versions, as I don't think videos were made)
When this video came out on MTV it got my attention to Primus. Then i heard this album and have been a fan ever since. This came out 30 years ago and would still be ahead of their time if they came out now.
Les slaps that thing like it owes him money! Been playing bass since ‘71 (started at 6) and I finally understand what it is about Claypool. The rules of playing don’t apply to him. The man is absolutely fearless.🤘🏻
The great thing about Les Claypool is that you never where he's going to go, and he has a great sense of humor! I was fortunate to see Primus at Red Rocks a couple times, and also with Sean Lennon at a small venue here in Denver over the last last ten years. His tribute concert to RUSH, with 'Farewell To Kings' was fantastic too!!
My introduction to Primus was Too Many Puppies and I have never had my expectations demolished so completely as the moment he starts singing on that song.
Now imagine being 17 and buying Pork Soda at a used CD shop, popping it in while you drive away and this is the first thing you hear with no clue what you were about to hear for the first time and it sounds like a strange man singing into a tin can half a mile away with cavemen pounding on the instruments creating not music, but just sound lol 😅 Took me a minute to fall in love with Les but I kept at it and now 20+ years later I've seen him 15+ times and I'm so glad I did
I watch a lot of your videos without commenting. Today, I had to. This one was excellent. I'm paying extra attention to musician reactors and I'm delighted to see that you play bass, so, no way I[m going to miss your Primus videos. You shoulda been there in the 90s when they turned up on Headbanger's Ball. You think Tool confused them? You shoulda seen this. They are something, aren't they? Claypool is a genius. Love your stuff! (Especially the heart monitor. Was so cute to see it rise during the song. Great!)
My friend played this video during an acid trip. I wound up remembering some blocked out childhood stuff and it fucked me up so bad. But it ended up being for the best.
Theres a line in Tommy The Cat that I think describes the sound between the bass and lead and vocals of this band, regardless of the song. "Like butter drippin off a hot bisquit".
I've been a fan and listening to Primus for 30 years. A great time of music Korn Marylin Manson Nirvana REM Green Day RHCP The late 80s and early 90s gave birth to some of ...if not the greatest music to date. You could blindly point at any song from any of these artist and you will not be disappointed. As always thank you for sharing
Im late to the party here, but you have to see Primus live at Woodstock '94! Them playing "Those damn blue collar tweekers" is what made me all Primus fan.
This song is off the album Pork Soda, which sort of explains the drink at the end.....as with most Primus, only "sort of" because you can't fully explain that
OK, the pig in the glass of liquid around the 7:20 mark or so is.... The name of the album 'Pork Soda', wonder if he was saying all the others (the larger men and woman), had drank it and now time to 'pork him up'?
This was my introduction to Primus when it hit the airwaves in 1993. The 10-year-old that I was very much enjoyed 'My Name Is Mud' and all the music they had to offer. I'm glad a new generation is digging their stuff, too. Go see them live. They'll be starting their tour in Oakland, CA at the end of December and going all over the U.S. next year. Just google Primusville. As for the song, it's just a story about a crazed man named Mud who gets into a fight with a friend and ends his life. Les Claypool is a huge horror movie fan.
"I kissed him upside the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat" is still one of my favorite lines of all time.

California ed ❤ happy to see you doing primus 😮 the greatest bass player 😅 you are having fun ❤
Primus is one of a kind.Period.
To me they were the pinnacle of artistic musical expression.( My holy trinity of Primus - Melvins - Helmet ...so good) Great to see that even over three decades people are still enjoying the journey of discovering them. Your reactions are always spot on, emotionally charged yet assessed pragmatically.
Other Pimus songs worth checking: Too Many Puppies (get the lyrics up too)

...and: Here Come The Bastards

Also please give those other two bands I mentioned above a try, even if just privately
Melvins - ua-cam.com/video/melj1Btb_Ko/v-deo.htmlsi=v6fnvRB6PJ0myY5W (they literally influenced just about everyone lol)
Helmet - ua-cam.com/video/9346rQ1d8ik/v-deo.htmlsi=K8xA1LeMDLNaUDVj ( they are unassuming legends )
Thanks for tolerating my ramble....you're amazing...keep rocking Aileen 🤘🤘🤘
Green Jelly- Three Little Pigs
This was the song that introduced me to Primus way back on beavis and butthead if I remember correctly 🤣🤣 I remember a kid in school would always wear a Primus shirt and wanted to know who they were than saw them on the show and was like yup .. good stuff 🤘🤘 awesome review and had a feeling you would definitely love Primus and looks like the fans were right lol
This is just Primus Remember they did the South Park intro if memory is any good
The Primus Experience - not soon forgotten
Loved your reaction Aileen, as always!
John the Fisherman was the song that got me hooked on Primus back in my college days. A great band to see live. So much fun. 👍
Can't wait to see now your reaction to either "John The Fisherman" (my favorite) or "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" :)
BAck in the day I saw PRIMUS over a dozen times. Just Jam'n... Love your reactions.
Loved the reaction Aileen. Les is a bass crushing legend. 💪😎
Jerry was a racecar driver is my favorite song from primus i like John the fisherman and too many puppies too
Les Claypool is one of the greatest bassist of all time! Definitely gotta check out "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver"
Les is one of the most creative bassists I've ever heard, and I've listened to many, across many genres. His Delerium with Sean Lennon is one of my favorite bands.
Aileen, you have to react to "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver". When it comes to Primus, that's a must listen.
“Slap that thang”…..you need to put that on merch !!!! 🔥🎸🎶🤘🔥😆
A few Primus favorites of mine
*The Toys Go Winding Down
*Del Davis Tree Farm
*Hamburger Train
*Over The Electric Grapevine
(I suggest the studio versions, as I don't think videos were made)
You always make my day, you are a sweet angel!!
Puscifer, Primus & A Perfect Circle just announced a US tour!!!
You are just so cool and adorable! Love watching your reactions. 😊
When this video came out on MTV it got my attention to Primus. Then i heard this album and have been a fan ever since. This came out 30 years ago and would still be ahead of their time if they came out now.
First Primus song I heard was Jerry Was A Racecar Driver when I was playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater at age 11. Life changing moment.
You have to see them do this live. It's amazing. I'm a bassist and got completely spellbound by Les Claypool in the 90s. ❤❤❤❤
Les' bass slides have many healing properties.
I'm glad I watched your reaction and that you're falling in love with Primus. Les is from another dimension. Your energy is great good content
My introduction to Primus was Too Many Puppies and I have never had my expectations demolished so completely as the moment he starts singing on that song.
Now imagine being 17 and buying Pork Soda at a used CD shop, popping it in while you drive away and this is the first thing you hear with no clue what you were about to hear for the first time and it sounds like a strange man singing into a tin can half a mile away with cavemen pounding on the instruments creating not music, but just sound lol 😅
Took me a minute to fall in love with Les but I kept at it and now 20+ years later I've seen him 15+ times and I'm so glad I did
I watch a lot of your videos without commenting. Great!)
Jerry was a race car Driver! Has to be next!! My favorite Primus song of all time!!
My friend played this video during an acid trip. I wound up remembering some blocked out childhood stuff and it fucked me up so bad. But it ended up being for the best.
Loved primus live they come out with their heads down the lead singer says good evening ladies and gentlemen we're primus and we SUCK😅
Theres a line in Tommy The Cat that I think describes the sound between the bass and lead and vocals of this band, regardless of the song. "Like butter drippin off a hot bisquit".
the performance of this song at '94 woodstock is completely insane and a must watch.
I heard this song on the radio the day after you uploaded this video and I love it! Now I can't stop listening to it!
This song is off the album Pork Soda, which sort of explains the drink at the end.....as with most Primus, only "sort of" because you can't fully explain that
I love your reaction to that snare drum fill, makes me happy to know someone else enjoys it as much as mee haha, this is a fun song
OK, the pig in the glass of liquid around the 7:20 mark or so is.... The name of the album 'Pork Soda', wonder if he was saying all the others (the larger men and woman), had drank it and now time to 'pork him up'?
Just got here from your WBB reaction. Glad to see you reacted to this one as well!
Jerry was a race car driver, Mr Kringle, frizzy fry , those damned blue collar
I've seen them live a dozen times since 91. Every show is in my top 12 live performances I've ever seen. Best pits ever.
This was my dad’s favorite song lol I’m ready for this primus journey
This was my introduction to Primus when it hit the airwaves in 1993. The 10-year-old that I was very much enjoyed 'My Name Is Mud' and all the music they had to offer. I'm glad a new generation is digging their stuff, too. Go see them live. They'll be starting their tour in Oakland, CA at the end of December and going all over the U.S. next year. Just google Primusville.
As for the song, it's just a story about a crazed man named Mud who gets into a fight with a friend and ends his life. Les Claypool is a huge horror movie fan.
