The actual story behind this song makes this song more amazing. There was a beautiful, popular girl he had a crush on in high school that didn't know he existed. Many years later he's famous, he's playing a show, that girl shows up to see HIS show. Even though she was there to see him he was terrified from the moment he saw her and was still too terrified to speak to her, he still felt like a creep, like a weirdo. The girl never knew about the crush and likely still doesn't.

Prince covered this song live, and an audience member filmed it and posted it to UA-cam. Prince filed a copyright claim to have it taken down, but Radiohead singer Thom Yorke pointed out he owned the copyright and said the video should be allowed.

    • @chrislaustin

He is wrong about that. There are two copyrights at play with a cover. The song is copyrighted, but a specific recording also has copyright, which in this case Prince owns. They can both claim copyright, and subsequently Thom York cannot demand that Prince forgoes his rights. It's also a bit hypocritical of him. Radiohead has always been very adamant about copyright, even being the first band to use copy protection on their CD's. That's their right, but Prince has that same right in this case.

    • @ziggythedrummer
      @ziggythedrummer 4 місяці тому +12

@@jbird4478 this may be correct for the covering artist's own recordings (say, if Prince had done it in the studio or arranged the recording of his live performance), but I'm not sure it applies if an audience member records a live performance which isn't being "officially" recorded. I may be wrong though...

Thom was mercilessly bullied in high school. He's a tiny guy that had a serious issue with one eye that required many surgeries. Who doesn't dream of "the hot girl/guy" in high school? This is a song about someone who knows it's completely unachievable. Amazing song!

It's this weird thing when you're an artist, you eviscerate yourself for the audience, you put all your ugly pain on display, you k*ll yourself... and everyone claps. And dances. Over your grave, over your corpse... It's always struck me as strange.

This was the song that intro'd Radiohead to the World, and they are one of the only surviving bands from that class of '93 alongside Tool. So many great bands from that era--Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, etc.--have gone by the wayside or lost key members, but Tool and Radiohead have endured.

Hi Aileen 😊 Getting a late start to commenting on this incredible reaction of yours to Radiohead's Creep 😊👍 I have read all the comments and I have to agree that first, this takes me back to my high school years in 1973 and second that you are special 😊 Those awkward years of being a teenager and having crushes and knowing that that will never happen. So I can see that when Radiohead came out with this song, I am not surprised that it became an anthem for teenage self- deprecation. I know you get especially excited when the performance is live because as you say perfectly imperfect which makes the performance that much better. And so it is as you immersed yourself into the performance, feeling all of the emotions and receiving understanding making your reaction real. The messages in the comments reflect that and why we love you so much. All the recommendations are excellent and I look forward to your reactions 😊 Have a great day you and Arya 😊👍

I believe he's not just singing for himself. When he sings, he's giving his all for everyone who's ever connected with the song. Even to hear "you are special" just doesn't fit in that moment. It's for everyone who feels like an outsider, it's for everyone who feels rejected, it's for everyone who feels alone. He's singing for them. He's singing for you. And that beautiful wailing at the end is proof of that.

Thom has definitely proven he can hit notes perfectly. You can find live recordings where his technical precision will blow you away. But to use painting as a metaphor, often a loose brushstroke is much more powerful than a tight one. And dancing around the note can be more interesting than hitting it. And when he does hit it, it's that much stronger.

Absolutely fabulous. Scott Bradlee always comes up with unique arrangements and Hailey is tremendous as always. On that particular song she was sick and was supposed to be off that day but she came in and nailed it.

How many of us were that person that felt they didn't belong, they weren't noticed, they weren't wanted around and were the "weirdo?" The emotion, pain and suffering really pours out of him and hits home to many of us whether growing up or now as adults. Brilliant, timeless song with no shelf life.
Also, Aileen, i love your emotions and empathy in so many of your reactions. Thank you!

They do a live version of their song, Fade Out (Street Spirit) which I just know you'll love. If you search "street spirit live", it'll be the 3rd or 4th down. He looks very young and has blondish hair in the image for the video.. It is such a haunting song, and in my opinion, it's one of the best live vocal performances I've ever heard. You will no doubt feel the same emotion I do

This song was the anthem for the rejected and invisible people of the '90s. It's a timeless song, there will always be unrequited love and this song expresses it beautifully. This performance is one of the best ever as well.
Also, everything about this song is imperfect, which is exactly what makes it perfect. It exactly mirrors the emotion of the song.

Kia ora, Great reaction to this iconic song.. Was wondering if you’ve heard of a Māori metal band called Alien Weaponry? They’re a thrash metal band that perform in our native language Te Reo, Their official video Kai Tangata is a visual masterpiece.. and I’m sure you’ll find our little paradise in the deep South Pacific quite intriguing.

I have been catching up on alot of your first time reaction videos of so many.. this month and last month.... loved the video most of all... Five finger death punch.. wrong side of heaven, as I can relate as 100% disabled veteran. You said you love variety of music and would love to see your reaction to a group I don't think you have reacted to yet. I just seen them in concert for the first time on Aug 2nd and was in awwww.. they have been around and have been underrated ... they are sooo good... please when you can get the chance to react to them the group is: The Funeral Portrait. The 2 songs I love most are: Voodoo Doll & Suffocate City. I look forward to watching more of your first reaction videos.

The song Creep came out at the same exact time as the Stone Temple Pilots Creep.
This one came first, and STP kept theirs back off MTV until this version wore off a bit.
I love both bands versions of Creep.
Funny enough Nirvana has a song off the record Bleach, called Negative Creep, which is a few years older than both Creep songs.
Kurt was kinda ahead of them all…check it out.

If you like vocalist you should try a bit of Skunk Anansie if you have not heard them before. Maybe start with the song Secretly, live ofcourse. I think you will like it. The Band is fantastic, the lead singer is from another dimension.

What I love the most is how much people really appreciate good music. I just turned 60 and I had been so sad to miss out on the 60s scene but I'm so excited to see all these bands in concert. As they started out as opening bands to being headliners. Then come back full circle. I don't like all the gimmicks. Just give me the music.
    I think your adorable.

So happy to see more radiohead reactions. Cant encourage it enough. There is so much to this band thats been said, to the point that they have antifans. But to consider that creep was just a glimmer of what they would become both emotionally but much more technically, I can't encourage exploration/reaction enough. They are such a staple for a reason and even if they don't 'sit' well' and can be a difficult 'first reaction', I can assure you there is meat on these bones, no matter what you hope to get from music.
My song recommendations, street spirit(fade out), Down is the New Up, A Wolf at the Door, Where I End and You Begin, Pyramid Song, How to Disappear Completely, Paranoid Android, Airbag. I'll stop there but you seriously cannot go wrong.

This is the best live version of this song. Creep is a banger. When Thom wails out, RUnNNnnnnnnnn, it gets me every time. Thom really emotes with his voice. His voice is a whole instrument in every song. I see them live, and his voice is better live than recorded it is like a sunset. A picture can't capture the real magnificence of it. You can only really experience it live.

David Byrne even introduced them when they were inducted into the rock & Rock Hall of Fame in 2019. Radiohead has quite a few “rockumentaries”I guess. From live shows, arenas, too the creative process in and outside the studio. (Meeting People is Easy) -1998, I think is listed in the top 50 rockumentaries. The bts of making “In Rainbows”, I particularly liked.

Fantastic performance, despite the cold weather. Singing about insecurity, while bravely soldiering on through the weather, to a point he even holds and corrects notes he went off key in. Do the thing. The show much go on. Completely vulnerable while also being completely a pro. Brilliant.
