I've been listening to Primus ever since they released their 1st album. Actually when I think of them I always say their drummer and guitarist are so overlooked and underated. This group is so tight!
I completely agree. I guess its hard to stand out with Les Claypool on bass, but just to stand toe to toe with him and not be completely overshadowed means that they are both amazing in their own right. I think another thing that is so overlooked and underrated is Les' vocals. With the lyrics to most of their songs being completely ridiculous and absolutely hilarious (and those aspects are even leveled up by their videos🤣) and being set against the fantastic music that the three of them play together, I guess that's understandable. But to ramble at that speed and yet still have great diction allowing the listener to catch the words is pretty incredible. Dude can also hit some notes and sustain when he wants to. All around, just so much talent and a lot of hard work on all of their parts.
@@jasonlaviolette2964 I agree on all fronts. As long as they have been playing together they seem to stick to similar themes after all these years. Bands usually veer off into different avenues as time goes by, for better or worse. Primus has been fairly constant for as long as they've been around
You were so right about your description of Primus in the last vid. The band is a total fever dream. They're so whacky and yet so talented, you can't help but smile while listening to them.
Your face was one of the most confused and bewildered I've seen a reactor make. And that's good. Primus is a musician's musicians band. Les Claypoil is up there with Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and Thunder Fingers himself. They are a unique and eclectic group but given the time and dedication will not disappoint
At 5:61 you said "It really feels like you're defying the laws of" and I said outloud "tradition!" Another Primus tune to consider. Called To Defy the Laws of Tradition off their Frizzle Fry album. Good stuff. 🤘❤
I have seen them live 14 times and it never gets old. So many great songs I don't even know where to begin with recommending you more! My Name is Mud and Jerry Was a Race Car Driver are obviously gonna be the next two! But I would personally recommend Over the Electric Grapevine. That song is like putty to the brain. I suspect Is It Luck? is a song that would make your bass playing mind melt even further too.
fun fact for younger folks: this is the song Primus played in Bill and Ted's excellent adventure 2 in the battle of the bands, and lost, to Bill and Ted, playing a Kiss song.
I love how you're outside the box, much like I am. Primus was my first concert, way back in 1992 I think, in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. I loved the silly yet magical dream state many of their songs have. Les Claypool is a bass master
First of all, you’re absolutely adorable! Second, it makes me so happy to see someone discovering Primus for the first time (I watched your Wynona video). Saw them in the Boulder Theater in Colorado in the early 90s . . . still stands out as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen . . . Lost my glasses in the mosh pit while Primus did an encore cover of Peter Gabriel's "Intruder" . . . just wow.
I won a live band karaoke contest singing this song. It was featured in a plan b skate video I saw when I was a kid and I have been obsessed with this song ever since
Primus are gods that bass playing is incredible this was the first time seeing this video and I was speechless the vocals were crazy plus the guitar playing was great not to mention the drums also I need to check out more of their songs I'm blown away
1991, I was 11 years old when I saw Bill and Teds Bogus Journey. Primus was the only band shown during the Battle of the Bands, playing this song. Promptly became my favorite band, and have been ever since. My Name Is Mud is a personal favorite, but Jerry Was A Racecar Driver is a must listen as well. I'll be here for every Primus reaction, guaranteed.
Same here. I bought that soundtrack when I was 11 or 12. Introduced me to Primus, Faith No More, and Steve Vai, all of whom are still favorites of mine.
Tom Waits did the 'Tommy' vocals in 1991 from the Primus album 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese'... Tom Waits did another weird Primus song in 1999 from the 'Antipop' album - 'Coattails of a dead man'.
Love how flustered you were after the first bass slide /drop. The crazy part about all of this music is that Les Claypool plays these parts without ever looking at his fretboard. Live he just looks out at the crowd and sings while slapping the hell out of his bass.
@@johnplaysgames3120 My very first concert ever was Primus. Ritchie Coliseum 1993 with the Melvins. When he came out on stage in the giant pig outfit with the double bass... man everyone went fucking bananas! No one gave a shit about the Melvins, heh. Looking back, I kinda feel bad for them.
First let me say I am a huge Primus fan! Seen them many times, including the reimagined Willie Wonka soundtrack! The homage to Rush farewell to kings just a few years ago was AMAZING!! I want to mention, in my opinion, Les is the best bass player on the planet. His work outside of Primus is equally mind blowing. Most recently, I’ve seen him and Sean Lennon, yes John’s second son, perform Pink Floyd’s Animals in its entirety. He has outstanding collabs with Bernie Worrel and Trey Anastasio and Stewart Copeland. Not to mention his solo material. Since this is about his bass playing and our incredibly astute and beautiful hostess’ being a bass player as well, it would be criminal not to at least mention the many projects of Mr Claypool. Plenty of material to enjoy and I’d LOVE to see you react to the Willie Wonka soundtrack Primus did, and it’s important to me, that You are aware of Les and Sean’s Animals tribute too. Since your reactions to Animals material was spot on. Love your channel and never miss a reaction.
If you are a fan of the band you would know that Les has gone on record as no longer being a fan of the Primus sucks joke. It's stupid now and has been for a very long time
@runawayuniverse Cool story, but Les isn't the arbiter of what is funny, stupid, etc. The meme is alive and well, whether you and Les like it or not. Items with "Primus Sucks" on them are still to this day some of their best selling merch.
The first time I heard this in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey it blew my tiny little mind. They've been my favouite band ever since. Also one of the best live bands I've ever seen.
I really have to disagree there. Devil Went Down to Georgia is not their song. To me its one of the most novelty type things they've ever done. Just not the type of band/song I really want to hear them cover. My Name is Mud is really cool but a lot of their lesser known songs are at least as deserving of admiration. Les's playing in that is more percussive and more simple melodically than a lot of their other songs.
I’ve been in the front row of a few Primus concerts, and it was always amazing how casually Les played that crazy amazing bass, sang, and stomped around the stage 😁
One of my favorite songs from Primus and where Mr. Claypool shows off his godly talents!! I absolutely adored your reaction........and no, I could never complain about you talking fast at all!!! (Especialmente siendo Peruano!). You are always so radiant and beautiful Hun! 🌹🌹🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I have never seen this song, nor have I watched any of their music videos, and the vibe that this gives me is like 20 years ago, I am in bed, sick, having a horrible nightmare. I'm both uneasy and trying to not vomit while watching this. Its a very strange feeling of discomfort. I'm absolutely blown away that they are able to produce music like this in a video like this that can give you such an unsettling feeling. What amazing art. I also am a bass player, and I love and despise what I hear all at once. It sounds like the best bass playing I've ever heard while at the same time just rubbing dirt into the bass. I can't put my finger on it. I think I hate it but at the same time jesus christ it's such a great story visually and musically. I'm just so confused lol
You got to experience the GOAT of bass. He is in a league of his own. He auditioned for Metallica when Jason left, Metallica was like "nah brah, you're too much for us"
The most impressive thing about the song is how good all three together: bass, guitar and drums. And what's more, Les can play it live and say all these lyrics in original tempo, that blows my mind
I like seeing real early live performances of this song. There's a few recordings from the 1989 tour in small clubs like The Coconut Teaser (the lessor known sunset strip music dive).

@@jasonlaviolette2964 I agree on all fronts. As long as they have been playing together they seem to stick to similar themes after all these years. Bands usually veer off into different avenues as time goes by, for better or worse. Primus has been fairly constant for as long as they've been around
The guitarist picks all the musically correct notes and proceeds to play none of them with great precision and results
You were so right about your description of Primus in the last vid. The band is a total fever dream. They're so whacky and yet so talented, you can't help but smile while listening to them.
@@igoriksanov9539 phenomenally talented and have so much fun. It’s great seeing Aileen enjoy
And, your reactions are great, too! Really love watching and listening to you watching and listening to them
Your face was one of the most confused and bewildered I've seen a reactor make. And that's good. Primus is a musician's musicians band. Les Claypoil is up there with Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and Thunder Fingers himself. They are a unique and eclectic group but given the time and dedication will not disappoint
Here is a real reply...Glad to see you being happy and enjoying great music. Much love bella. May the wind forever be at your back.
At 5:61 you said "It really feels like you're defying the laws of" and I said outloud "tradition!" Another Primus tune to consider. Called To Defy the Laws of Tradition off their Frizzle Fry album. Good stuff. 🤘❤
I said it too. First Primus song I ever heard. First track of Frizzle Fry. What an album
I also said it but in the voice and time signature of the song.
@@hephaestus6605 I said it in my head more like the guy from Fiddler on the Roof. 😁
I said Del Davis Tree Farm.
Takes me back to the 4th annual San Dimas Battle of the Bands
No Way!!!
fun fact for younger folks: this is the song Primus played in Bill and Ted's excellent adventure 2 in the battle of the bands, and lost, to Bill and Ted, playing a Kiss song.
Station!🤘
I loved that movies soundtrack.
I grew up watching 1 and 2.
Great movies.
3 was a crime against the fans of the previous movies.
Next up, 'Jerry was a Racecar Driver'. Then, 'My Name Is Mudd'
I love how you're outside the box, much like I am. Primus was my first concert, way back in 1992 I think, in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. I loved the silly yet magical dream state many of their songs have. Les Claypool is a bass master
Such good stuff with so many to choose from, maybe "DMV" or "John the Fisherman"
John the Fisherman and Harold of the Rocks are my fave Primus tracks!
First of all, you’re absolutely adorable! Second, it makes me so happy to see someone discovering Primus for the first time (I watched your Wynona video). And C, you said something like it’s chaos but it makes sense. You freaking nailed it! And you! You with your fast talking and your dynamic attitude; you’re Primus in human form! I’m so happy I found your channel and I can’t wait to watch more of your videos and see more of your beautiful smile.
PS. Please do Harold of the Rocks and also John The Fisherman. Thanks! ✌🏻
Their concept albums are great, The Desaturating Seven… and Primus and the Chocolate Factory
It was featured in a plan b skate video I saw when I was a kid and I have been obsessed with this song ever since
Yess! 🛹 Pat Duffy- Questionable.
He also skated to DMV in Virtual reality
@@ronponce8238this guy gets it! I loved that video man
Primus are gods that bass playing is incredible this was the first time seeing this video and I was speechless the vocals were crazy plus the guitar playing was great not to mention the drums also I need to check out more of their songs I'm blown away
Loving these guys since sophomore high school. 52 and still laughing!
Tom Waits did the 'Tommy' vocals in 1991 from the Primus album 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese'... Tom Waits did another weird Primus song in 1999 from the 'Antipop' album - 'Coattails of a dead man'.
Coattails of a Deadman is hidden gem. Such a good song. It's about Courtney Love too. Lol
Love how flustered you were after the first bass slide /drop.
I've been a musician for many decades and when I hear certain things it hits me just the same, even after all these years.
talent is timeless.
And I'm going to join the crowd calling for 'My Name is Mud' and Jerry was a Race Car Driver"
(but still hoping you'll check out Lovebites as I posted in another comment.
Just found your channel so I'm catching up. 😁😉)

Well ok,I will go listen to that song. You easily talked me into it.
Wearing my les tales from the punchbowl shirt as i hit this like
They performed this when I saw them a few years back at slayers "final" show and it was so badass. The bass sounded so sick during that song
Saw Primus live shortly after they came out and this, to this day, is one of the best songs I have ever heard performed live. Every single person in the crowd was into it
Those damn blue collar tweeters Woodstock 94 from them will blow your mind
Just found your channel, I've listened to primus for a while but this song in particular was on my to do list, today instead of listen the song by my self...we are experiencing it togheter ( sorry for my english) it was...quite the journey
If you want another Great Bassist, look no further than Mark King from Level 42. He plays a mean Jazz-Funk.
Some Songs from his Band with Great Bass:
1. Love Games
2. Love Meeting Love
3. Lessons in Love
4. Turn it On
5. The Machine Stops
6. Seven Days
7. Physical Presence
8. A Pharaoh's Dream
9. 43
10. Dune Tune
This is just a small sample. Level 42 Discography is simply amazing. They don't have a Bad Song. This is a Band's Band. Every member is an exceptional musician. Give them a try. You won't regret it.
How do you leave out Mr. Pink?!
Great band, great bassist. I've got a few albums...well...cds. lol
@@TheDFunkEra Level 42 has too many Great Songs. Can't list them all. So had to settle for the ones, off the top of my head. Heck, I even forgot to list "Why are you Leaving?", my favorite Level 42 Song. :D
A great song and a wonderful reaction. I truly do enjoy it when every now & then Aileen is just a little flabbergasted by some sweet, sweet bass action! 🙂
Jilly's On Smack. Bonnaroo 2011.
Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers!! And watch a live video - seeing him play that bass and sing live is pretty unbelievable!
The crazy part about all of this music is that Les Claypool plays these parts without ever looking at his fretboard. Live he just looks out at the crowd and sings while slapping the hell out of his bass.
Often while running around in weird little circles and stomping his foot like some old-timey cartoon hillbilly. Dude's a beast.
This song is awesome. I would recommend John The Fisherman next
Those damn blue collar tweekers Live version from Woodstock ‘94
the toys are winding down
Great suggestion! Great bassline
I was looking for this suggestion, that bass is chefs kiss
You really need to track down a live version of this song. Seeing him play this in person really hammers home how incredible he is.
"Groundhog's Day".
We have a connoisseur here - I see.
ATF Primus song! Ideally the live version from Bonnaroo.
@@flingonber great pick!
came here to suggest this one because I figured no one else will. love the lyrics and that bass in the second half
Whoever suggested you watch Primus, give that person a gold bar.
!!!PRIMUS SUCKS!!! Great tune from a band you just can't categorize 🤘✌️😎🧐
Primus does indeed suck!(Am I doing it right? 😂)
If you are a fan of the band you would know that Les has gone on record as no longer being a fan of the Primus sucks joke. It's stupid now and has been for a very long time
@@runawayuniversewell she sucks too then 😆
@runawayuniverse Cool story, but Les isn't the arbiter of what is funny, stupid, etc.
My Name is Mudd. And Devil Went Down to Georgia. Are probably their 2 best. Hard heavy BASS.
Classic strip club music from the 90s.
"Fish On (Fisherman Chronicles, Chapter II) · Primus"
I love the whole song, but the intro is pure bass bliss.
Shake hands with beef!! The funkiest
I like seeing real early live performances of this song. There's a few recordings from the 1989 tour in small clubs like The Coconut Teaser (the lessor known sunset strip music dive).
Just saw them in April with Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. Amazing live. Jerry was a racecar driver, my name is mud, lacquer head and those damn blue collar tweekers. They're all so good it's hard to remember everything 😂
Aileen!! I'm so glad to so you finally getting around to Primus! Please check out Mr Krinkle. It's a great video that was filmed in one continuous shot and features Les Claypool playing an upright bass. Missed you
I just suscribed. Great content, and fellow musician. Good stuff
Damn Blue Collar Tweakers by Primus Live at 1994 Woodstock EPIC!
Ha ha😂"Cat call, no pun intended".
Classic PRIMUS!!
One of a kind band.
Great three piece band. Insane talent.
Insane videos.
I loved the unique style and perspective that was different than anything I've ever heard in my life and frankly most fans could go on and on about this bands greatness!!!
Thank you for your service and opinions and expressions.
Nice moves too.
I never thought of PRIMUS as a dance band however you changed that perception.
Try DMV it's got that groove that I love 💗.
Nice unbiased opinion of these videos and they make you laugh!
Fun fact Primus plays the end of Tommy the Cat at the battle of the bands in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
The live version of this astounding at Bonnaroo 2011. The Primus crowd is something to experience.
