Technically, they are considered progressive metal, but I think I agree with you there very hard to categorize, but they are the best metal band on the planet right now!
TOOL is basically a band made up entirely of a rhythm section. There really are no proper leads. Every member has a job. Every member is showcased at some point and leans back at others. They blend better than any band I know. Very primal, very spiritual and very cross cultural. They borrow inspiration from areas most wouldn't consider. But they get into your spine and never leave it. Very special band.

This was probably the best tool reaction I’ve seen thus far. It was a real joy and pleasure watching as a tool fan. Your reaction to this is exactly how every Tool song makes me feel. And I’ve been listening to them since 93. Welcome to your next rabbit hole. Looking forward to seeing more Tool, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. Enjoy
I’m sure you’ll hear hundreds here say the same thing but, it’s fun for us to watch first timers experience Tool for the very first time. You picked a good one to start with. That’s one of the few where you can catch the rhythm. Good luck from here on out. You’re officially an addict lol
I just subbed '2 minutes in' after seeing you loving them so much. I really do love how 'The Pot' has become such a good introductory Tool song for people to react to on UA-cam. Glad you enjoyed it. Tool army will show up. Enjoy the ride.
I seriously love listening to tool reaction videos. These guys have been absolutely rocking it since early/ mid-90s. IMO, they are the most talented musicians I've ever been exposed to. You will have mind-blowing reactions to every song from Tool.
Prepare yourself because there’s so so sooo much more to discover from Tool. I’ve often see where they describe Tool as being their own genre. These guys are music geniuses. I’ve only been listening to them for about a year now and I’m enjoying the ride so far in hearing everything from their 1st to last album. The only thing I will add is that They can hardly ever sound very similar to their other songs.
I’ve been listening to Tool for 13 years, you will never stop peeling through layers of their composition, even years later. I find new little nuances in their music to this day that I never internalized.
I love how you describe painting a picture. I've listened to a lot of break downs of this song and this is the first time I've heard this. I admit I'm a Tool fan, but you hit it on the nose. This is the most talented band I've ever heard. The drummer is arguably the best drummer in the world. Maynard is one of the best singers in the world. The guitar and and bass are in the best in the world. If you enjoy music, even if you don't like heavy/progressive metal.... You know Tool is amazing.
You've definitely got an ear for the intricacies of music. And lyrics at that. You're gonna love TOOL. Listen to RIGHT IN TWO by them next please. I think the drums, music, AND lyrics in that one will resonate with you.
Been a fan since a teenager and im 45. Welcome brother to a unique sound and just listen and appreciate talent. Great band. Great sound. Worth the journey every time.
I honestly can't say there are too many bands out that more talented, creative, or innovative than Tool. They are just objectively on a whole other level when compared to just about every other musical act out there.
Please go down this rabbit hole!! Great reaction. It’s almost impossible to bob your head to Tool. Their music tends to be in irregular time signatures. Enjoy the ride bro!!
Maynard is a world class lyricist, among many other things. He is the singer in 3 bands, all still making music today...Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, all chocked FULL of masterful compositions!
Love Watching your reactions to Tool!! Your commentary shows that you truly appreciate what they do. I've been a fan for 20 years and am still blown away every time! Incredible musicians!! Enjoying Watching your journey!!
1:43 caught in the rusty gate swing. 😂 No other band can make the sound you just paused on. That’s what the Tool Army is founded on.😂 Welcome to the family.
Tool are indeed their own genre. They came out of the alternative rock/metal scene of the early 90s, but they ended up having such a unique sound that was utterly their own, a kind of progressive take on alternative metal, and despite their huge influence over the last 30 years they still remain utterly distinctive.
TOOL, one of the absolute GODS of Music. Proud to be from the country with the most TOOL fans per Capita. NEW ZEALAND Have never met a person whos never heard of TOOL. Maynard is a largened.
This is the song that gets most people into Tool now. Amazing song but still nowhere near their best work. It's just the most accessible. Drive in. Dive in. Spiral out in this rabbit hole you've just discovered. It'll be more than worthwhile and satisfying. I promise.
I had listened to all of older Tool by the time this album released. I agree that OVERALL the album isn't as strong as the previous, but there was a very special and particular "vibe" to this album, part of it the songs and the other part the production/mixing, where it just had this "special juice" to it and I've listened to this album overwhelmingly more than the others.
@@thinkingoutloud3757 I can agree with everything you said. My personal favorite is Lateralus but it just depends on my mood on what album I want to hear at that time because they are all amazing. That being said, I was just talking about the song itself being more accessible to people who aren't used to hearing this genre of music. This genre being Tool.
There's no such thing as their best work. You might say I like that song better than this one but never say this is better than this one. There is no such thing.
It's always a pleasure to watch someone genuinely discover the band Tool. Watching you get your mind blown on one of their songs for the first time brings me back to when it happened to me. And the song The Pot is pretty much a perfect entry point to listen to this band. Cheers!

Welcome to the club. You have no idea what you’re In for. These guys changed my perception of all music and what it could mean to me. Keep going. You will certainly not be disappointed 😎✌️
Laterlaus, the grudge, 46 and 2, stinkfist, vicarious, pneuma to start but tool has some of the best musicians for each other as a band. The mesh perfect and everything appears to work for them the way they do things. Amazing talent in that band.
Welcome to the Army, dude. You're in for a hell of a journey! Danny Carey is probably one of the greatest drummers of all time, and is a master of polyrhythms. I, like several other commenters, am jealous that you get to hear them for the first time, but honestly, they don't ever get stale. Definitely look for the drum cam of Danny playing "Pneuma" live, too.
Bro I've been listening to Tool for over twenty years now, and your explanation of picturing the layers separately just opened up a new level to this song for me. Wicked
In the intro, those are digital "Mandala" drum pads that Danny has samples on, but he hits with his sticks. He can have hundreds of sounds on each of the seven that he has in his kit.
I think you're right but I know Danny works with Aloke Dutta for recorded percussion, so for the album tracks it is probably an actual Tabla rather than tha mandalas. He absolutely uses the mandalas for live shows though!
If that’s the best build up you’ve ever heard on this channel you have about 5 Tool albums to discover because each Tool song is a journey that builds, wanes, changes tempo, etc. And each tells its own story musically and lyrically. :) You’re in for a treat. It was so great to watch your reaction and feel what we all felt listening to them for the first time. Each new listen to a song you’ll find something new you didn’t hear before. So exciting to watch you loving it.
I joined the Tool Army 3 months ago, and I can say this time was enough to fall in total love with this band. My absolute favorite. At 30, my first tattoo is their newest logo on my forearm. And I scared of needles... This is the effect of Tool. Wonderful. Spiral out! 🌀
Always far better late than never when it comes to any great music. Tool, obviously, is special. Now that you're so into them you know the next step is to see them live. You'll be more blown away during the show than you even were listening to anything they've done on album. Some call it a spiritual experience.

Your reaction to this is exactly how every Tool song makes me feel. And I’ve been listening to them since 93. Welcome to your next rabbit hole. Looking forward to seeing more Tool, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. Enjoy
Tool is the best band on the planet & has been for some time
I’m sure you’ll hear hundreds here say the same thing but, it’s fun for us to watch first timers experience Tool for the very first time. You picked a good one to start with. That’s one of the few where you can catch the rhythm. Good luck from here on out. You’re officially an addict lol
60 yrs young THIS IS TAKING ME HOME !! Feeds my soul THANK YOU LOVE PEACE N HUGE RESPECT XXX
Keep it friggin REAL
I just subbed '2 minutes in' after seeing you loving them so much. I really do love how 'The Pot' has become such a good introductory Tool song for people to react to on UA-cam. Glad you enjoyed it. Tool army will show up. Enjoy the ride.
If you're calling the pot a category 6, please remember this comment when you finish listening to Aenima (pronounced Ahneema so you know, lol).
46&2, the drums in that one are so so good and it's another accessible song where the time signatures aren't as complex às most of their stuff.
“Lyrically, it’s the blues” has given me much food for thought, thank you for tht excellent and interesting perspective.
Lol perfect reaction.....love it........yeah it's a masterpiece.
Tool is my favorite band and has been for years. Their concerts are amazing. I love watching people experience hearing them for the first time.
I'm loving that another brother is discovering and loving Tool. It's chaotic perfection. Every beat and every syllable deliberate. Straight Dope!
Damn, I read that "drive in, dive in, spiral out" in Timothy Learys voice for some reason lol
@@MikeThePole Now I can't unhear it that way. Thank you, sincerely.
Cheers!
as a huge TOOL fan I vicariously enjoyed your reaction.. spiral out man !! keep goin !!
suggestion:
tool - pneuma live Danny Carey drum-cam version
Led Zeppelin no quarter (tool cover)
...
Tool are the kings of Polyrhythmic melodies.
Excellent musicianship and a fantastic engineer doing the mixing.
This band is one of a kind. Even against the legendary rock bands of old.
Seeing someone join the tool army is always beautiful ❤️❤️
Absolutely love when music lovers get around to Tool. love the fact even more so that I was alive through Tool's discography.
All 4 of the band members work well together and separate at the same time. You are listening to a life long musicianship.
Not just I'm in the band.
“Descending” is a mind blowing song!!
I just keep saying "just wait till you hear more" I'm jealous and excited for you to discover what TOOL really brings. There is nothing and no one like this band. They are their own category ✌🏻❤🤘🏻
Welcome to the club. You have no idea what you’re In for. These guys changed my perception of all music and what it could mean to me. Keep going. You will certainly not be disappointed 😎✌️
You gave me goosebumps watching you rock out to this unbelievable band!!
Laterlaus, the grudge, 46 and 2, stinkfist, vicarious, pneuma to start but tool has some of the best musicians for each other as a band. The mesh perfect and everything appears to work for them the way they do things. Amazing talent in that band.
I LOVE watching people listen to TOOL for the first time! Welcome, TOOL fan. The journey begins 🤘
Nailed it at the end “this is in a category by itself.” Tool is legendary.
Tool is in a category its own theres a lot of bands that are like this but basically genrational bands that HAVE stood the test of time
Welcome to the Army, dude.
Wicked
You can literally feel every layer of that music flow through your body when seeing them live!
Okay, I will confess... I'm 66 years old and Tool is up there with all my favorites! That includes Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Doors, Stones, and Beatles.
11:07 - Welcome to the Tool Army. :D
Just all 4 incredible musicians... Even Maynard's voice is an instrument... Rock solid !!!
Been listening to tool since I was young and it slams in the car!
i love seeing peoples first reactions to a TOOL songs. theyre always mindblown and i love it
In the intro, those are digital "Mandala" drum pads that Danny has samples on, but he hits with his sticks.
