    I have recently learned to never throw away any part of a vegetable that you cut off. Keep a bag in the freezer for storing the parts and use them in stock. Leek tops would be a wonderful addition to any soup or stew! I do the same for bones from steaks, ribs, etc., for bone broth. You can even save potato peelings, carrot peelings, celery bottoms, squash ends...you name it. (I would not use corn husks or veggie stems, but I would save the cobs from cutting the kernels off!)

    the tops are similar to the green part of green onions. just as edible. thinly slice (i do bands and then squares), fry in a little oil (not long, but the oil should pick up the flavor), and add to eggs or bread or grilled cheese or breakfast croissants

    Jeff, your taking a leek on your vlog was totally awesome! Thanks buddy. I can taste even more with leeks in the IP, perhaps a vichyssoise (cooked in IP then chilled) or a lovely springtime combo of leeks, peeled fava beans and maidenhair fern fronds. Leeks are so underrated and I'm glad you made leeks the star of this show.

    I can't believe how many instant pot recipes I have typed into UA-cam search and your channel comes up. Better yet, it will bring up a whole page of choices and usually I don't look at who's video it is, I go by how it looks in the picture and how they worded the recipe title to pick one to check out ..... it's your channel 75% of the time!! Thank you for how much I have learned about my instant pot from you ... thank you for making awesome food (and not the same old same old) and thank you for sharing it with us!

    Jeffrey, this is kinda off topic but I thought you’d be happy. I’m the one who wrote you and told you how excited I was to learn to make yogurt. Anyway, I’m currently watching season 12 of Heartland (it’s a tv show from Canada and one of the VERY BEST shows around). The character “Mitch” just brought out a SOUS VIDE! I was so excited cause I knew what a sous vide was! Thank you! They haven’t brought out an IP yet but still! It’s so cool!

    Best way to wash the leeks is to slice them and separate the rings.

    • @lo-calmann4262
      @lo-calmann4262 4 роки тому

      But that kind of ruins the point of this dish -- to keep the "disks" whole.

    • @mariecraig239
      @mariecraig239 4 роки тому

      Lo-cal Mann yes, I realize that, I have been quite surprised as to how much sand can be between the rings, which is why I separate them. I love Jeff’s recipes I’m going to make the leeks and see how they turn out with the rings separated. I’d imagine they’ll still brown beautifully. I’ll repost with a picture, when I do. Thank you for your reply I definitely accept your point as being a legitimate point. 🙋🏻

    • @Cattitude48
      @Cattitude48 4 роки тому +1

      @@mariecraig239 I was thinking slice them the long way and cut into a bit bigger pieces and kind of stir fry them, then proceed with the recipe with maybe another minute cook time. I agree the dirt can stay in the rings. Let us know your results - should work fine.
